The thing that amazes me about Jack Wild in Oliver is his Cockney accent. I am a born, and bred Londoner and I always thought he was until I read his Biography which said he was born just outside of Manchester. His family did move to London 3 years before he made this film, but I cannot imagine his accent changed from Manchurian to Cockney in such a short time, this shows what a great child actor Jack Wild was.
40 years later and we have yet to produce anything as magical as this production was/is. remarkable!!! i was born in 1969 when this came out. what an amazing storyline and the best musical ever made. bravo!!!
This Musical, ‘Oliver’. I remember seeing this with my Family. I am 63 yrs., of age now. I think I was about 10 Or 12 Years of age. It Was & Still Is Just Amazing. Brilliant. Sensational. Stupendous in Every Way, & Every Actor, Director(s), Creator(s), Writer(s), Producer(s), Camera Team, Fantastic Everyone! Make-up Artists, Sound Team, Lighting Team. (In Any Order). It Was Certainly A Brilliant Musical & The Great Jack Wilde, God Bless. God Bless To All In Connection to The Musical. Thanks for ths Opportunity to Express my view. Thank You to All. Wow, It’s A Marvellous Musical. X♥️🥰
I saw this movie at Tara theater in Atlanta in1969 ! Best time of my life! The opening credits were brilliant! Knew this going to be real quality piece of art. Onna white got aSpecial Oscar! The song is one of the best ever put on film. Period! Especially the ending . masters at work all through the film 2001 was a great film . but not the best of1968! Real talent all around!! Masterpiece!
i loved the joy of this song and the undercurrent of suspense during Oom Pah Pah. i had never read Oliver Twist and was so hoping that Nancy's plan would work. a stand out among movie musicals.
This movie has rank with one of the greatest musicals ever, If memory serves me, I think it won 10 Acadamy Awards. There is one person who was behind the scenes that Does NOT get hardly any credit for thier brilliance in association for this movie. Her name was Onna White and she choreographed this musical. Her Choreography remains some of the best ever in Hollywood. She won a "special category" Oscar for her choreography in this movie.
and she deserved it. not only is the choreography flawless but the actors look believable and not forced while doing these awesome moves. i saw the film version of Hello Dolly a year after Oliver and the dancers looked silly, overdoing it with goony looks on their faces. Oliver got it right a year earlier.
@@kevinswales7003 There was a song written for Sykes in the play, but the movie producers decided not to use it in the movie. The music, however, is used as a orchestral backdrop for Sykes as he's walking away from Nancy with his dog, Bullseye.
I recall seeing this when it opened. My parents took me. I had a major crush on Mark Lester (I was about 7.) Didn't appreciate the music then, but have loved it since. Great clip!
i lot of people knew of it back in the day. it was a huge hit in 1968 and won 6 academy awards including best picture. yes it's too bad that younger folks missed out on it. one of my favorite childhood memories
Your memory is right on, he did play "jimmy" in the tv show H.R. Puffnstuff, I had fun watching him in my teens, luv the puppet flute, who was his companion.
@JuanMacready Oliver Reed got excellent reviews. He said he wouldn't have accepted the role unless he was offered it based on his acting skills rather than him being related to Carol Reed. I hardly ever see people who have a problem with Oliver Reed's acting.
I don't think anyone else could have played Sikes as well as Reed did. He portrayed the menace and threat convincingly,,,all the while being devilishly handsome and sexy😊😊
@@dalerussellsullivan9373 of all the Oliver's I've seen Oliver Reed wins. scared me as a kid when i first saw it and i really hated him after Nancy's death. smart move to scrap the 1 song that Syke's sang. makes Reed's performance more convincing.
ahhhhh! the kid playin Dodger is so cute! so many memories! i have auditions 4 Oliver 2morrow and im totally not nervous!!! x :D :D it will be a blast!
Yes i seen this in the year 1973 on a papatotoe intermediate school treat, loved it, and years later i still watch this, i have the movie, bill sykes was my favourite charactor
Jack really was a pro. In the scene where they go down the slide, a fish ends up on the slide. He had the presence to yank the fish off there before Oliver can get to the bottom.
I've just finished my school performance of this - i didn't get to be in this song but we all sung it at the end aww it was a laugh sad its over and Jack Wild is great at the part

omfg love this film to bits we're doing oliver at school an im audition for nancy on monday love the policemen! and oliver is soooooooo cute!!!!!!! and the choreography is wonderful thanx so much for posting XD .x.
@JuanMacready A lot of critics felt this was a rare occasion in which the film version was better than the stage version. Carol Reed and Onna White got great reviews, as well as Lionel Bart and most of the Cast.
Surprisingly, this is kind of accurate. You ever been to an english soccer game? 1000's of people can randomly start singing songs that are made up on the spot. It's like they communicate telepathically or something lol. Its like this video but with less dancing and a lot more cursing haha

his accent is very strong! usually accents dont show when singing. i love Dodger's voice
Man, Jack Wild was really good in this. The best dodger no doubt. He will be missed dearly.
I had a huge crush on him ever since I first saw this movie with my family

i realize Im kind of randomly asking but does anyone know a good website to stream newly released series online?
@Enzo David try FlixZone. Just google for it =)
@Julien Gerardo Yup, been using Flixzone for months myself =)
@Julien Gerardo Thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D Appreciate it !!
One of my favorite songs from the musical.
I also love Where Is Love, It's a fine life, I'd do Anything and Oom Pah Pah
You can tell Mark Lester and Jack Wild formed a great friendship during the film. Can only imagine how heartbroken Lester was when Wild died.

John Green? Related to the film's Oscar-winning conductor or just a coincidence?
i loved the joy of this song and the undercurrent of suspense during Oom Pah Pah.

a stand out among movie musicals.
My mum and dad, and their families, came from London. I can't help but shed a tear. Such a wonderful film.
I went to London last year and this stuff still goes on, everyone just gets up and starts singing and dancing, it's crazy.
hopefully all the hookers aren't still getting murdered under London Bridge.
Nothing will ever beat these classics ever again
Never surpassed imho amazing choreography I can watch a thousand times over and music you or someone around will recall instantly 💯👍
The choregraphy by Onna White and her associate, Tom Panko, won a scecial Oscar.
I really love the continuity of this musical number. The best!
What an absolute gem of a musical !!!
Wish they still made'em lyke that.

what a wonderful film in 1968, It deserves everything.
I love this version of Oliver! It just isn't the same without Ron Moody, Jack Wild or Mark Lester.

But Oliver Reed had no song written for Bill Sykes.

It brings back lots of memories of when we had the production at primary school!
He is a really good actor! When you see him in the interview on youtube he looks down in the dumps and quite, wheas here is lively and happy.
Besides me and someone else, everyone else commented from 2010-2011 at the least. That’s insane!
omg ur right
That's so sad!
hi :p
you wonder if they are still alive...technology
Just an amazing film, and killer music. Bravo!
I was five when this film was made in 1968, was in awe of it then when I first saw it and still am.
I'm about the same age. Still gives me goosebumps!
Beautiful voice from this kid, amazing!
This is peach. Love it. Oli was awesome as Sykes.
The best song from the greatest musical ever made. Absolutely love it! Cheers me up no end. Thanks for posting!

Coming up, the scene where Nancy sings "As Long As He Needs me" heartwrenching. 👄
best song performance to the whole film. i always thought jack wild sounded like stacy slater from eastenders. maybe because it was set in east end.
Lol,,you are right, he does sound like Stacy Slater🤣😂
Classic :) don't think this will ever get old for me

the best oliver movie... oliver is so cute, all the characters were brilliant too!
A fantastic musical and hard to believe that Jack Wild was not a Londoner like myself. I believe he was Manchester born.
I am from the USA and I love this song and this musical.

i love this part! it's so playful and it's such a wonderful song:)
