    What was not shown is that there is a 5th screw centered in the back of the ashtray that holds the lower part in. The inner part of the ashtray pulls out and there is a hole in the center of it to access the screw.

    Good video as far as it goes. I just changed out one of these and it was easy up to the point where I went to take the radio itself out of the subchassis that carries it and the climate control controls. This is held in by 8 black anodized phillips head M5x0.8 screws. Someone must have put these in with red (permanent) Loktite - they would not budge. I literally broke off a hardened steel screwdriver bit trying to turn one of them. I even tried an impact wrench with a phillips bit - nothing. I then dulled about 6 drill bits drilling them out. Luckily I was replacing the radio so leaving the drilled off screw shanks in the old one was not a problem. I can't imagine that this is the way the factory put this radio in, but maybe so? Has anyone else had this problem?

      Yes they're thread locked. You have to turn in more until it pops and then you can unscrew them.

      I just had that same problem today, I had been able to get 5 of the screws unscrewed no problem, and the other three I had to use an impact screwdriver to remove them. They wouldn't budge and were going to strip with a normal 12in long screwdriver.

    Cool video, you taught me how to take mine out right before I went to work! So my entire radio will not come on at all. There is a large pop one day and it would turn itself on and off and it hasn't turned itself on ever since. I checked the fuse and nothing looks blown. What do you think the possible problem could be?

    • @Mn09lfV6f
      @Mn09lfV6f 5 лет назад +1

      Problem is likely that resistance caused a capacitor or another part to fail (due to heat). That is irrelevant. Relevant is only if it works because $40 will get a much better updated radio. Then replace it if it is worth fixing. So does an owner of a 16-19 year old high mileage car which means replacing the radio is spending money that could be spent on a newer car.
      No fuse is visible on the back of he radio so I guess you are referring the one in the fuse box. It helps to be specific when telling mechanics the problem. Fuses melt and don't make sound when it fails. Hope I helped.

    What if you need to leave the climate stuff alone, but just take out the radio or does the climate stuff go together?

    I am also trying to swap out my moms climate control part in a 2000 nissan maxima. I kind of cracked her vent part and the bezel wont move yet since i cant get the shift knob properly. My thing is i need to change both the radio & climate control. Heck may as well replace the whole middle piece....i just want to make sure i do it all the right way.

  • @michaels5527

    There is a screw in the ashtray that holds the lower bezel on. It would have been very helpful to know of its existence.

    VERY NICE VIDEO was wondering if you can do and upgrade to that same system by connecting a pair of audio inputs and outputs, as I have a 2003 maxima gle, and would like to connect an ipod, or some audio device. Thanks

    I want to replace the green color on radio to pink on the same car posted in video. Is there a chance you can post a video showing how I can replace the “bulbs” if that’s what they’re called.

    Ah, so close to the climate controls. It would have been helpful had you shown that too. It looks like the cover is removable with 2 tabs. I would like to know if the light bulb can be changed. Also, a hook tool is better. A smaller screwdriver is better; that big one damages the trim. Place cardboard or something thin and hard to protect dash material.
