- Secret quick way to level up any staff on Mother Base in the game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Learn how to use FOB Events to upgrade stats of your Mother Base soldiers. The key is to get the message "Proficiency Has Increased Significantly" when you finish each FOB Event (in FOB Missions). Once you have accumulated enough proficiency, you will be "Awarded Distinguished Service Medal". When that happens, that means your chosen staff will be at maximum stats possible. Note that it won't work if your staff is already close to S+ or S++ in all categories, as he will still get the medal, but the stats stay the same. The FOB Event in the video is the Skulls Attack (2nd version where you need to extract 3 guards). It is extremely easy to do, and takes less than 2 minutes to win. Therefore, you can level up any staff member to the maximum in less than 8 minutes each (assuming it takes 4 wins to get the medal). After you win the Distinguished Service Medal, make sure that you lock your staff if he is still too weak, or he may get dismissed if you use auto organize option of Staff Management. Note that permanently locked characters (like Ocelot or Hideo) won't show up in the character selection screen when you move them into the Combat Unit, but all other staff can be used.

You can also do this a bit faster if you just do the C2W mission over and over, flying into the Eastern Communications Outpost and destroying all the objectives with the minigun. Takes about 3 runs of the mission in order to get a medal and earn a new rank.

I'm being completely serious right now: FOB missions are so annoying and shitty... I don't know why they emphasize so much on them considering how nobody likes them and they don't make any money out of it... (NOBODY buys MB coins)
The idea to buy an insurance for one's FOB not to get ransacked even when you're not playing the game online is also as bad.
I didn't like FOB mode at the beginning, but now I like it for some reason. Maybe it's the challenge, a 4/4 FOB is way more challenging than a regular Story mission in my opinion. Too bad they didn't add in Co-op or split screen play. Imagne Co-op pvp, it would have been intresting.
how do you farm s ranks?
Its probably easier and faster to do the C2W mission 3 times in a row to level up your guys. This may work for some, but a dumb mistake could happen in an FOB, and if you die there you could lose a guy. SImply strip down to the lowest gear you can to maximise your GMP rewards, load up C2W mission, and choose the landing zone in the red. Then when you can move, get into the helicopter's gatling gun and shoot all the radar dishes. You can even get total stealth if no one directly spots you. switching sides on the copter when you are facing the side with all the soldiers will help you not get spotted. Doing this three times in a row not only gets you a badge, it will get you the foxhound emblem, since you will S-rank the mission all three times. You should also probably upgrade your helicopter's armor.
Its boring but it works like a charm. If you die, you wont lose your guy. I usually only bother with guys who already have the badge for being a puppet soldier, since those guys will skyrocket in stats even better.
All you need to do is put the staff member you're using under direct contract and you won't lose him in FOB missions, whether you are killed or extracted.
I thought that made them unable to be picked from the combat unit list.
+Nunya bizness nope. Not at all. Try it, use the best S++ staff you have and rank them up to increase their abilities. You get perks for using S Class staff at the cost of less espionage points. For example S++ medical recovers health really fast. Just remember to put them in contract.

I really wish they had added a more in depth unit organization system for organizing staff into more specific groups within the 5 units. I’ve always wanted to be able to just make a platoon or squad of all the guys I want to level up, so you don’t have to go through everyone individually all the time.
Edit: I also wish they had added funerals and awards ceremony’s for your guys, I guess this is what mods are for but I’m just a lowly console peasant

Fair warning, if you are going to first farm elite or legendary staff to then level them up, use either Punished venom Snake or deploy a combat staff member with Booster stat, then go roaming the missions that had prisoners and rescue them, and then use that video tutorial to get medals to level them up. Good hunting

There is this one minus that when you found the best looking girl that is a base s in combat and have played 500 hours with it forming an emotional bond, and then you derp at the mission and die...

You can’t, unless they had really low stats to start with (D in combat and nothing above B) it might not drop below 1.90 times multiplier

@@edepot it's...ok for what it is(a psp game). I prefer the artstyle of the other games, the controls were worse(to switch weapons/items you pm have to stand still), and other things I nitpick about, but all in all it's a fun game. It was interesting to see where they got some of the ideas for MGSV.
Too bad there won't be new MGS games, just remasters. May have to pivot from gaming if the current games stay so terrible. I have to look to old games to enjoy playing gaming lately

A little question tough. I've read all the questions here and this question has not been asked: Is there a way to better improve a soldier? I mean, I've observed that some staff get a lot of upgrade after getting a medal, and others a very few punch. What is considered to boost the soldier rank? Espionage Points obtained during a mission? Action Points?
Once you get a soldier, you can only improve the rank a certain amount in all categories. You can't keep improving them. They stop at some point. So the goal is to go on Online FOB and get the all S++ rank soldiers and try to find all S+ and then work them so they have all S++: ruclips.net/video/ZM9epwQ0Lz4/видео.html

Is there limits to leveling one soldier? What's the maximum number of medals per soldier?
They can only get this medal once. Then there are 2 other medals that are harder because they have to be captured first and won back to get it. And a third medal if you capture a puppet soldier too.

@@jacksongoodman3625 i can do it pretty constantly on easy but on normal i die quite a bit. Some ppl go AM D114 RP that can put helmeted guard to sleep.. costs 43k to deploy with it though.. It was from a past event.

You are supposed to go lethal suppressed and shoot legs and Fulton before they die
3 ways to level up staff
1. Get distinguished medal by completing 3 FOB missions/main missions (s rank, lower ranks require more missions)
2. Medal of Honor - defeat infiltrator in FOB event. (Kill or extract)
3. Service cross - get back captured staff.
+caceve00 I think dispatch missions gets Distinguished Medal. The Service Cross can also be gotten easier way. I forget, probably if your AI staff defeats an infiltrator without you doing anything? Or some staff survive an infiltration without you doing anything?
+edepot hmm. Not too sure about other ways of getting the service cross but dispatch missions are risky because staff under direct contract can't be deployed meaning if there is a particular staff you wanna level up that way, you'll have to pull his contract, putting him at risk for death, or extraction of you get infiltrated and forget to put him back on in contract. It happened to me once. Feels bad man. Lost 1 S++
+caceve00 For some reason I only got medals of honour for killing attackers and not extracting them, also unless I delivered the killing blow, none of the ai got the medal, both when I've been present or not.
The easiest way to get the service cross it from puppet soldiers either in main ops or side ops, but to get the service medal for an S++ rank is too risky so best to start with a fresh soldier that already has it.
+Stark Clark So to confirm: Distinguished Service medal from 3 or 4 "proficiency increased" messages in completing Missions (I don't know about Side Ops), Dispatch Missions, and FOB Events (Not sure about FOB Infiltrations on enemy bases). Medal of Honor medal (for you AND AI staff) from killing attackers of your FOB in FOB Infiltrations (Not FOB Event, which have no attackers). Service cross medal how do you get it? If your staff got captured and you got them back, do YOU only get the medal or your staff too? Also, how do you get Service cross from puppet soldiers? When you extract puppet soldiers, do YOU get the service cross, or the puppet soldier gets them? Or do you mean kill the puppet soldiers. Also, are the wandering mother base soldiers considered puppet soldiers?
***** I can confirm you get the distinguished medal from infiltrating rival FOBs, not just FOB events.
I can't confirm AI staff getting the medal of honour.
Your captured staff get it from what I've been led to believe, not yourself. The extracted puppet soldiers will always get a service cross, wandering motherbase soldiers will always get this cross too, although there are only a handful of those, I personally wouldn't call them puppets, not sure if the game code does or not.
How did you get 300 people in your staff for Combat Unit. Mine only goes up to 190 and I have all 4/4 bases filled in all my platforms
Connecting online allows you to build additional bases.

So, are FOB missions basically attacking other peoples bases, or are they just after the same target as you?
Every single FOB Infiltrations (that is not a FOB Event) is another real player's base (their FOB base). Each player can get a maximum of 4 extra FOB's which they can customize via security settings and mine/camera placement, and even upgrades (uniforms/weapons for the guards). So players can attack each other's "fortress"
***** i really wish there was a way to have the online element disabled. i have never been big on multiplayer, and i hate that the game forces the majority of my resources to be online. and i like even less the thought of someone being able to just come in and take my shit while im running around Afghanistan with my pet mini-mech

Mitsurugi2424 Don't worry about it. They can't take your processed resources. They can only take unprocessed resources. And I don't think they can take unprocessed resources you got from playing offline.

I repeated FOB event with the same soldier at least 5 times, also tried some other FOB missions. But my stats won´t change. Not even one skill improved. I don´t know what is wrong with it :( At the beginning my skills were like ACCCC and now they´re still ACCCC

Medals are permanent for that character. It is possible to get multiple medals. Characters can't lose the medal unless you fire him and Fulton him again (in which case his stats are the base stats when you fultoned him).

@@alexisfab2057 The arrow is to let you know that the stats have increased from base level, so if you see the arrows that means you have successfully leveled that character. I am not sure if you can keep leveling up after already leveled. Let us know if you are able to do it again.
Little late to the video but I do the same thing fact thing except I just send out 5-10 (however many is allowed) on combat deployment. That works to.

+megaman121000 Using the trick in the video, they can get the "distinguished service medal" only once. After they get it, they can't get any more "proficiency increased" messages, nor can they get any more "distinguished" medals. I do not know if you can get other medals though.
i know theres the cross medal for certain staff that has been rescued like the old mother base soldiers and the puppets but i dont know if that increases proficiency. i think if staff are injured in battle but survive get it too
There are actually 3 medals in the game. The other two, I think one of them is defending your mother base live (requires PlayStation Plus). The other one has something to do with surviving an invasion or something like that.
So you can technically get everyone up to S+ by grinding this or does everyone have a max?
Each character had their own max, as they can only get one of these medals each.

Sometimes I find a S+ guy in the field, and extract him; only to find that his rank has been lowered to S or bellow back at Mother Base...
I think the main reason that happens is that Konami wants you to play FOB Missions, where you attack other platform from real players or attack the Event FOB platforms for their prizes and S+, S++ soldiers.

You can upgrade your unit capacity by going to the base facilities menu on your iDroid
