    latch-hook kit is very smilar. I suggest you use the same materials. Buy a hook and learn to latch hook. That is how you make rugs. Pre cut your yarn all at once. Simply wrap it around cardboard to your desired lengh. Cut the ends. Really easy. That will save you lots of time too. Simply organize your cut pieces of yarn into piles by sorting your colors. By doing all this, your next rug will be easier to make. Tweek this project to make your life easeir. Also, if you pre cut the yarn, then their is no triming needed at the end. I love your idea! Will have to latch hook using the chicken wire. Ive have been doing latch hook kits since I was a kid. You can also make wall hangings too. You can make latch-hook pillows. Endless options!!! :)

  • @veronicabrown7614

    A latch hook or a crochet needle would help pull the yarn through the chicken wire if people are having a tough time with that. Also if anyone is confused on what type of yarn to use or how to find it, it's typically called chunky yarn in stores! :D

    • @bellamin4549
      @bellamin4549 7 лет назад +1

      Veronica Brown I find they took something simple like rug hooking and made it so complicated lol
      Still cute though!

    • @creatingari6664
      @creatingari6664 5 лет назад

      Hi Veronica, you seem like you know how to do this pretty well, do you think it'd look as good if not every square was tied with yarn? Or with a smaller yarn, like size 6. I want to try this but such chunky yarn is pricey compared to the short length of the skeins they come in ( as you probably know).

    OMG you guys, I'm totally obsessed with rugs lately but since we have two dogs and no vacuum I thought it's impossible. Then I realized that I need to get a cotton rug so I can wash it in the laundry machine, but I realized that the size that I needed is so tucking expensive that I almost gave up the idea, unless I'll be able to make one on my own- and then this video!!!! My God it was a damn long story just to say that you are my DIY godess!

      I was completely thinking that latch-work rugs are a thing and that the hook is so much easier than manually threading it. Not to detract from their idea, cuz it's still amazing!!! :D But I felt bad that they didn't have that tool to help speed it along for them.

    In the early 90's my sister was big into latch hooking. (I did a smaller one too when I was a kid); If you want to make a rug, look into that. You can blend it with what they are doing here and save time on knots and have a fuller rug.

    Did you know you can by rug hooking material for the backing at Mary Maxim in Paris Ont? Also if you wanted to recycle you can use old t-shirts cut in strips and then use a rug hook to do the hooking part. We did this with 4H kids (12-15) and it turned out great.

  • @kanadra

    Very cool DIY. Some ideas for you would be to use a grided non-slip drawer liner or rug backer instead of the plastic wire, then you maybe wouldn't have to add the non- Slip pad afterwards. You could also use a rug- hook instead of trying knots!
    Also, I'm curious if you were inspired by a two row wampum belt? That's what your rug reminded me of, at first.

    you could probably use an old or a cheap yoga mat in place of the sticky rug thingy! you could use some heavy duty glue to glue it to the back, and i think it would make it have a little more grip so it wont fly across your floor and maybe make it more comfortable to step on too!

      Elly MacRae you can find the kits second hand and also make them yourself, buy your own yarn and cut it, and buy a mesh to make it. The up side to latch hooking is that it’s 10x easier and faster.
