I used to hate rs3 so much but then life happens i got burn out of osrs. It’s just too grindy for me with no real progression. So i tried to get back to my old rs3 account and proceed to comp. It respects my time and I found a very helpful and social clan who really supported throughout the way not judging me how i’m suppose to do stuff. EoC is much better than it was really, just need some time to really learn it. You should throw away your preconceptions about the game because you’ll be disappointed if not. I can sustain my membership by just playing the game even though it’s a bit pricey now. But since you have a lot of way to make money, and if you’re genuinely a nice person there will always be some people that will be willing to help you. You just have to control your fomo, be an adult and don’t waste your money on mtx. Osrs and rs3 can’t really be compared now. They have their own charms. I play both.
This video is exactly what the community needs. Thank you for doing this. As someone who has been playing RS since 2004, I lived through and experienced it all. RS3 *is* RuneScape, like it or not. It's still the same great game overall and more people need to give it a chance.
Id love to play rs3, but there are some major turn-offs that hold me back from doing so. For example, I cannot stand the armor redesign, they ruined some of the most beautiful sets in the game. Also the cosmetics.. seeing people walk around naked with butterfly wings and a teddy bear head just takes me out of the game. Mtx and stuff like double xp weekend just makes 99 not as impressive and I dont feel accomplished when I get there. It looks like a fantastic game, but those things are holding me back.
As a RuneScape 3 player, loved this first impressions video! Seemed very accurate. Oh and this is actually the RS3 crystal bow design 14:55 and there is no cosmetic variant of this item currently
As a 19 year vet who's 200m xp in all skills on RS3 and consumes a lot of OSRS content I have a few things to chime in. The treasure hunter promo featured is one of the worst. Not any of the other ones are better, but this one was egregious. As shitty as the Pay2Win shit that is in the game, let it be known that the average employee at Jagex (referred to as Jmods) agree. But it isn't the employees making this that want this, it's the investors. OSRS would not exist if this kind of monetization was able to help fund the company. Not that it makes up for it, but something for OSRS diehards to contemplate. With OSRS there's a lot of focus on the early and mid game as much as the endgame. In RS3 most of that is dead content, which is why they offer 4 annual Double Experience events. They want you to get to the endgame because that's when all the prime content is in a 22 year old game. I highly suggest checking out the same content creator you referenced J1mmy, and his take on the Fresh Start Worlds he made talking about this. Last, I wanna talk about the combat system. Most OSRS fanatics will point to EoC and be like yeah, RS3 shit game. And you know what, they're right. EoC was a complete shit show. Thing is, that was over a DECADE ago. It has been honed and refined extensively over the last 10+ years. The combat system is still point and click. You click on the enemy. You do damage. They die. They've added Defensive abilities, where you equip a shield at certain times and you get some damage reduction or what not. It's so much more in depth now that you can still learn as much as you want to and it gets so much more rewarding. Hell, I'm still shit at PVM but even I can make it by. In the end, I think RS3 gets a lot more shit than it deserves. See you in game. RSN Psych edelic
I am a osrs vet with a maxed infernal cape and have done all bossing that osrs too offer but life happened and I had a family and I just didn’t have the time anymore for the grind. I decided to give rs3 a chance. Absolutely loved the game after a couple weeks of giving it a chance. If your a wow player I feel rs3 gives the osrs and wow had a baby vibe. I use too bash the game for years and now I regret doing so. This game is so underrated and I truly think if osrs players have it a shot they would fall in love. The questing is fantastic…. Bossing is so much fun and it’s a good thing to work towards. When I came back I maxed my main but then decided to play Ironman and haven’t turned back. If you truly hate the thought of MTX just play an Ironman!!! You will not be disappointed. So much fun and you get the true gameplay of rs3 without having too use a single lamp. It’s been 2 years now since I came too rs3 and quit osrs and I don’t regret it. It’s a great game and I don’t know if I’ll ever return back too osrs. Great video and too my fellow osrs players. Don’t bash rs3 till you Give the game a solid chance. Happy scraping!
Amen dude! I'm really glad you're enjoying it! One thing you said that bears reiterating - the questing is FANTASTIC! Like really really good. The rewritten quests are really making me want to play RS3 more.
You dont need 15 dungeoneering for mithril, you need it for the special resource dungeon inside of the mine which has mithril gold and phasmatite. Mithril ore also exists elsewhere.
RS3 really is a continuation of updates, patches and overhauls from its pixely and humble beginnings. To those that like the simplistic and immersive gameplay of ORS, you can customise RS3 to be as simplistic (e.g., closer to ORS) or complicated and indepth as you like. Futhermore, If you enjoy immersion and traveling, you can still move on foot, avoid home-teles, and choose options that are more immersive, which I found myself doing from time to time when wanting to admire and immerse into the beauty of the game. Therefore, my opinion is theres no need to play two games unless, its really bothering you. My major gripe, which was spot on in the video, is the cosmetic side to the game. Its totally true that seeing someone with badass armour fills you with awe and motivation to attain it. While achieving that hard earned gear and showing it off gives a sense of reward and accomplishment. But when you see others with badass, or down right crazy cosmetics, (for me) it kills the immersion and damages the culture of gear reverance and attainment; adding a huge cheap/fake/effortless feeling to the game. My wish is they would remove cosmetics entirely. A lesser gripe of mine is Jagex bringing "P2W" mini-games and rewards to the game. IMO Jadex bring a seedy atmosphere to an otherwise excellent and extremely underrated MMO. In my opinion, these mini-games use operant conditioning and positive reinforcement schedules, as used in poker machines and other games with loot boxes - Which is really manipulative and taints a game for me. I would like these features scaled back or removed. However, Its not game breaking as its easily avoidable, or (with self-control), you can just use the free tokens for minigames rewards. Nonetheless, depsite my critique, I feel RS3 is overall a better game than that of ORS. The size and scope, graphics, sound/music, mountains of content, mechanics etc etc makes it incredible to play and immerse in.
14:57 - that is a crystal bow, the player had just enabled privacy mode so the game will only show you what he appears to be wearing without differentiating between whether or not it's an outfit override or an actual item; with that being said you can also "keepsake" pretty much any item in the game to turn it into a cosmetic override, so it's also possible that it's an override.
18:53 LOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLOLO. I hated dungeoneering back in the day because it was built like a minigame and you were forced to do it to max an account. I remember arguing with people back in the day that it wasn't a skill, it was a minigame and people would say I'm wrong. I love the first reaction to a new player is "It's a really fun minigame." lol.
Haha that’s totally fine!! I personally enjoyed it as a casual player, but I can imagine for an account that wants to max out that it’d be frustrating!!
Wait, is ragging on RS3's lodestones really still a thing for OSRS players? OSRS now has double or triple the amount of teleports that RS3 does lol just in the form of items and house teleports
What a great video! My only real complaint is that I really think the soundtrack should've been stressed even more. Yes, the remastered OSRS tracks are great, but honestly many of the original RS3 tracks are fucking mindblowing. On RUclips, look up some of the boss music, for example: Try The Glory of Combat, Arch Nemesis, and The Cursed Warrior, from GWD3. Each of them are next-level for not just MMO music, but video game music. Try Family, from the quest Extinction, or Scape Summon -- The theme from Summoning's release. Or instead, maybe something more of the flavor of Wending Through the Willows or Tale of Waiko are your speed? I could go on and on, but my point is that any review of RS3 covering the soundtrack should absolutely cover BOTH, the remasters, and its originals. You put lots of emphasis on the remasters and that's understandable because you're coming from OSRS, but the originals deserve a mention too. Plenty of boss, quest, and even area music is fucking sublime on RS3.
The humor is on point! Such a well made video. However I am impressed of how brave you are to offend so many fanbases in just one video... "How many gaming communities you want to hate you?" Brightlife: "Yes!" What I like the most about the reviews is not only that they are good reviews but that they are also enjoyable videos I definitly gonna watch a second or third time ;)
This vid brought me to your channel, gotta say I enjoyed the video and have saved 5 or 6 others to my watch later! I'm a long time osrs player who recently started playing rs3 on mobile and have a lot of the same sentiments as you. See ya on the next vid
As someone who has played both I can safely say I feel like RS3 as progress just gets worse and worse. Bosses are far less memorable, summoning needs to be reworked to be far more healthy for the game, and magic needs to be toned down. I do believe RS3 could be great but there is just so much stuff that holds it back when it comes to the late to end game.
I made an alt to play osrs when afk on rs3. It really sucks u cant use 1 on both at the same time. One thing I like from osrs is the tournaments, I played 2 so far and love how you progress through one area to unlock another . Should definitely have leagues on rs3
Fun fact, most of the "first impression modernisations" in rs3 happened between 2009 and 2014. If you'd reviewed the game in early 2015, the only major things that changed for first impressions would've been: some changed graphics in the f2p area; mtx is pushed quite a bit more; mining/smithing was completely reworked; and the bank interface is a LOT better now. Most of the updated quests, updated music and updated graphics are over a decade old at this point.
The reason people don't like the interface is because they don't do anything about the default setup. The devs just left the windows open they thought you'd need at the start, and leave you to move it wherever you want those windows yourself. You probably won't know what you need at the start, so just close whatever you don't need. Then move whatever you think you do need to wherever it doesn't get in the way.
I tried to get into runescape a while ago but couldn’t. I think maybe it was because I didn’t have the nostalgia from growing up with it. What I did grow with was pirates 101, and now im gonna do research if it is still up. Edit: its still up and now I know what im going to be doing on my Saturday.
I didn't grow up with Runescape (I was playing stuff like Ultima Online, I'm a little older)... and I tried Runescape several times and just didn't get it. Then one day I tried it, and it clicked. You have to be in a certain kind of mood, and approach it with a certain type of mindset. It's about slowly (some would say boringly) and methodically building up stats for a sense of achievement. I don't play it all the time or anything, but it can be enjoyable. Try it every couple years or so, it may click with you at some point.
The reason why a lot of OSRS players HATE RS3 is because of the EoC update. That update absolutely destroyed the way we played and the economy. Nobody in the right mind in the community at the time wanted it, yet Jagex proceeded with it. Jagex has done a lot of outrageous updates over the years but that one almost killed their game. I'm glad it didn't and I'm glad they listened to the community and now there is an old school version. It definitely is nice to switch in between them though, you never run out of content or boredom. I do like your unbiased review on RS3 seeing how it appears you didn't play when it was RS2.
Old RS3 players are the real chads here. They didn't cry/riot and quit when a constantly updated game was updated, they instead learned to play within the new update. I'm a 21 year vet who plays both versions, and imo rs3's combat is SO much more enjoyable to me these days than OSRS, and takes much more skill/in-depth knowledge about the game to become truly good. OSRS players who completely discount RS3's combat today because their feelings were hurt by an update that happened literally over a decade ago are essentially luddites and nothing more. Most of those who shit on EoC today had that single experience of logging into their old accounts one day to find EoC, not understanding how it worked, and immediately discounting it (forever) because it was different.
@@ian1998 while I agree that rs3 combat is way better than osrs now,it definitely sucked on launch. "Momentum(ability)" was nowhere as good as revolution, so you basically couldnt afk combat. There were no bosses on release besides like nex or kalphite king that required you to actually use the new abilities in any other way than "use ones that do most damage" Most of the bosses became trivially easy to do. The interface back then actually was a mess because it was nowhere near as customisable as it is now. So yeah after a few months I gave up on it. But props to them for doubling down and fixing the combat instead of bowing to public pressure because I think it made a better game in the end.
You did it! RuneScape 3 player here, we need all the love we can get I think theres a bad rap for Rs3 compared to OSRS but trust me, its amazing im way over 1,500 hours in just on one character.
On/off player from 2008 here... Fantastic video! I'm only up to 10 mins so far but I agree about the interface. I used to hate it but once you customize it for what you need, it's lovely. My main complaint about it (if I were to be a new player) is they throw you in the deep end, don't tell you much about how to customize it - and the default one sucks (in my opinion). If they were to make the default one better, I think more new players would be retained.
Nice video, edit and scripts. You really have potential with your character, content and mic is crystal clear. I quitted pre eoc and tried RS3 during 5th year college or COVID era. First was really hard esp interfaces but it gets easier. I managed to make a main AND an iron with both 2600 total levels and almost hitting end game. Its very fast which is suitable for us grown ups. Now trying OSRS :)
To me is very simple, if you enjoy grinding skills and very very simple combat go for osrs, if you want easy fast xp, but very very complex and engaging combat go for rs3. Most ppl that do this kind of video think rs3 can be just click and kill, and it can for slayer or low tier bosses, but please watch some high lvl pvm it’s nothing like that and it’s the real strong quality of rs3. Amaaaazing video, my dude!
We have a few stronger whips too! Though the best one isn't animated the way the OG one is though, pure sadness. The crystal bow at 14:56 was genuine, though it was keepsaked (in-game items can be converted to cosmetic ones) or showed up as a cosmetic because the player had their examine set to private. If the item doesn't show a Loyality Point or RuneCoins value (highlighted with a flashier yellow square around the item slot), it's usually an in-game item, keepsaked or not. If the player doesn't hide their examine, you can see both the actually equipped item and the cosmetic item that specific item slot was overwritten with. Yak Track specific cosmetics, oddment items or and Treasure Hunter rewards are not highlighted differently sadly afaik... I really don't understand the hate on the interface, aside from the F1-F5 menus being slightly unintuitive. For new players it can be overwhelming true, but that isn't that case for most games? Returning players can just enable the legacy interface, though it's missing the buff and debuff display which is a bummer or just remake the legacy interface with the modern system, with minor alterations. For example, I made it so my chat is in the bottom left, ability bars above it, buffs and debuff icons above that, on the right side from top to bottom, 224x224 map (I kept making screenshots to measure if it was the correct size lol), 12 button ribbon menu, a secondary window for the music player, notes, combat and skilling spells seperately, teleports, loot tracker that I can toggle with the ribbon menu above at any time, a small gap, and finally the primary inventory/worn equipment/skills window below it. Need to tele? Just press the ribbon button, teleport, close it. Use it often? Keep it open. If I do combat? Just press some ribbon buttons or hotkeys and I can bring up all ability windows seperately, next to the chat, then take the worn equipment window and place it in place of the gap between the primary and secondary side windows. Of course they're all 224 px wide with the exception of the seperate defensive and constitution ability windows that are 112 px wide and the prayer window that is just wide enough so the scrollbar doesn't appear. Or you can just hotkey every single window and do it oldschool style, though it's easy to disable windows by pressing the same hotkey twice, so that's a drawback. I did recently make a PvM focused one though as my second preset, with the ability bars pixel perfectly centered and the inventory and such being next to it along the bottom of the screen, but oh boy I can't get used to it. I don't even know how the elite players keep track of their hotkeys lmao. I've been clicking everything aside from prayer switches lmaooo. Cash shop is fine as long as it doesn't have FOMO. Treasure Hunter and Yak Tracks (battle passes) on the other hand, predatory bullsh*t, can burn. What I really don't like about Yak Tracks is they literally paywalled roleplaying outfits in a ROLEPLAYING MMO. Things like the Lumbridge and Varrock guard outfits, wizard outfits etc. Oh the good old times when we cosplayed as guards lmao. It'd be nice if they got rid of both TH and Yak Tracks, but TH has been here for 10 years now, and the damage has already been done, and as long as Bonds exist P2W exists too anyway, OSRS can't pretend it's not a form of P2W, though some people genuinely use it as a way to support the game so I guess that's why it's accepted. Thankfully, skill and game knowledge is not something you can just buy lol. Anyway, I sidetracked, at least you can convert every TH reward to oddments to buy keys for specific sh*tty promotions that give you a chance to get some dumb item you can sell off to use that cash to get your bank spaces and other stuff unlocked for free at the expense of someone else's irl cash and giving them in-game though. If people weren't buying into it, it wouldn't exist, but they do and that's the sad reality. Edit: I forgot to mention while I'm an RS3 casual, I do primarily watch OSRS content on the side. I love OSRS content, but I just don't have the time and the money to play both. If Jagex accounts will share the same subscription though, maybe I could play them both at the same time.
Bonds were made to fight the gold farmers long ago. I struggled to get membership over a decade ago and have been a member since bonds came out. I'm a fan of Yak Track as it can encourage you to train your skills, give you a path.
accs were banned and he had nobody to dump this gold to, gold selling sites dont just buy that much gold if any, its not like all of the money is in the game now lol, you dummies really have no idea how any of this works
if you look into endgame content however. it would be somewhat reversed. rs3 is the non-chill game in that sense where osrs is the more casual simple game, simply due to the ammount of mechanics. (just saying this so if players come over they don't expect endgame combat to be casual in the slightest)
You can make RS3 pretty much exactly the same as OSRS thats how I play when doing Slayer and a few other things, just hit your settings and go down to Legacy Modes Removes the Abilities and turns everything the same as OSRS. You would have to be Rich to buy a 120 using Lamps Level 99 is a thing of the Past 120 is the real cape, But they do need to get rid of them Lamps. The Solomon's Store though is just Cosmetics, Bonds can be bought and used for keys, rs coins for solomons, or 14 days mems but they are like 70m and that is not even worth 15 keys at all.. Whips are one of my Favorites also, Abby whip, Abby Vine Whip, Lava Whip and the Abyssal Scourge. You can also get Vis Wax that gives all the special effect teleports an option to nearly instantly teleport. If you are into PVP the Wilderness has blown up, Since coming over to RS3 from OSRS I have fallen in LOVE with Hunting HCIM and IM players. With the Constant Wild Events going on all day constantly it has really gotten fun. Everyone I knew from OSRS has became RS3 players once they realized that level 99 is nothing 13.4m xp compared to 104m needed for level 120 and its not just a number as TONS of potions etc. requires you to have at least 110 herblore same with many of the other skills level 99 is just a stepping stone in RS3.
Don't woosh me for this. The animation when firemaking has never been making a friction fire. You use a tinderbox, which would generally have a fluffy flammable material and a striker of some kind. Friction fires were only added with barbarian skilling, where you use a bow as a bowdrill instead of a tinderbox.
My thoughts as a RS3 player with over 40,000 hours: 1. P2W doesn't really matter - hiscores already have so many 5.6b xp'ers (max xp) that it's more of a pay-for-progression and like mentioned in the video, you really only rob yourself the joy of progression by paying through it. If P2W bothers you or you don't want any part of it, there's an entire mode called Ironman that removes all MTX and trading and is a really rewarding game mode that helps you understand and enjoy the game deeper by having to earn everything you have. 2. The questing is second-to-none when compared to other MMOs. The vast majority of MMOs have fetch, kill, or escort quests - you see virtually none of those in RS3. There are so many unique storylines in quests that have you doing different things, and there's literal hundreds of them - it's a lorehound's wet dream. 3. Boss mechanics are extremely complex and rewarding to master at high tiers compared to most MMOs. Most players don't even experience it because it's that challenging and complex. If you like bosses with tough mechanics, this is the game for you. 4. There's 28 different skills (with a new one coming this year) with some skills having hundreds of hours of content or more each. You can sink your teeth into it for sure and enhances the sandbox feel. 5. With over 20 years of content, yes there's bound to be dead content - they do updates literally every week and content is constantly being released - way faster pace than any other MMO out there so there's always something new to look forward to on a regular basis. With all that being said, I do understand that the age of both OSRS/RS3 prevents it from being the most popular MMO out there since everyone wants to play with the newest shiny toy and 3D character action is becoming more desired nowadays. The grind and time investment also puts off a lot of players (literal thousands of hours to fully max an account and get good at PVM). I still would argue though that OSRS/RS3 both have top tier questing, boss mechanics, loot design, and economic design (ignoring the occasional dupes/exploits that plague any mmo). It really is noteworthy that the loot design and economy design has survived for 20+ years without being in shambles. Not all MMOs can say the same.
I started playing RS3 again about 2 years ago. It really is a great game, but its ruined by all the MTX. Last month I got 120 slayer without even playing the game, just from all the bonus exp from the 2 free daily keys. Imagine if I had bought keys. There is no sense of accomplishment anymore. I've quit and started playing osrs again. I would really only play rs3 if it was on an ironman.
This past week I've just started playing this game again for the first time in almost a decade. I used to love it back when I was a kid in 2008/9. RuneScape was my first foray into MMOs and I'm so grateful for that. By 2014 though I had pretty left the game after being a member for a number of years. The game had changed too much for me back then. Besides, my life was changing a lot at this time and I moved onto other games, namely LotRO. Now that I'm older, though not necessarily wiser, I feel I can appreciate this game more. It's been a real nostalgia trip for me coming back to the game. So much has changed and yet so much hasn't. I'm seriously considering becoming a member again but as of yet I'm undecided. Thank you for another great video, Brightlife :D
That’s so alike to my story as well!! I love it! This one definitely surprised me by how much I genuinely enjoyed the world and how much heart Jagex put into the new iteration! Thanks for your thoughts Gald! ❤️
I quit RS over a decade ago. Started a new job couple weeks ago and happened to walked in on the guy in the office next to me afk fishing on his iPad LOL. Now i have a new office buddy and restarted my RS career! I lovee all the new convince features, i honestly couldn't play today w/o them. Also you earned my subscription at Raid Bug spray comment lol
So glad I stumbled on this video. It covers all the points I try to cover when people see me playing (and obviously ask why) I'm playing RS3. I have been playing on and off since evolution of combat initially dropped, sometimes with months or years inbetween. I've found it always a lot easier to go back into RS3 than to try and re-build my old RS2 or OSRS account levels. Lots of the modern allowances and improvements (Home teleport, Metal Bank, Toolbelt, etc) are the main reason I still continue to play RS3. Thanks for the in-depth and genuinely entertaining review!
I, like probably most people who hate rs3, quit when EOC launched... And for all those years, I just really hated rs3 and never gave it a chance. Well, I finally decided to give it a fair chance 3 months ago, and honestly, it really feels like coming home. It still has all the nostalgia, of it being the game I was addicted to as a child/teen, but just updated, with so much more content, new skills, bosses, etc etc. I'm honestly in love with it, and feel silly for being purposefully ignorant for so long. To me it really just feels like "runescape, but updated". Treasure hunter (the lootboxes you buy keys for) might seem super pay to win, but after playing for these 3 months, I can honestly say that they're not. You get so many free keys by just playing (that you can turn off by playing ironman), that it's NEVER worth buying, because buying bonds is simply 100x more bang for your buck. The same bonds we also have in OSRS. The lamps from TH aren't a way to skip the grind. You'll still have to work weeks/months to get those 99s or good gear. I was skeptical at first, but after actually spending a few months with it, it's honestly ignoreable, unless you're a whale. The EOC combat system intimidated me at first, but it's actually very enjoyable. You can have your basic abilities fire off automatically, and just use your treshholds/ultimates manually, essentially like a special attack. special attacks still exist by the way, the same ones on the same weapons you're used to. By the way, you can also turn combat to "legacy mode", which completely removes ability bars, and even gives you special attack energy back. It's not recommended for higher end content though. Also, abiltiy bars can also have items on them, which helps with skilling more efficiently, but it is something you can do to have osrs combat in rs3 (as long as you don't do any bosses). I'm still in pretty low tier pvm gear, but the bosses so far are REALLY fun, and have some really interesting mechanics. And there's a ton of unlocks from minigames/quests/etc that will improve your character. The game definitely doesn't hold your hand with high end pvm content. Overal, rs3 really does give me that sense of wonder that I had for osrs back in the day. Just seeing how much new stuff there is to discover, and exploring all of it for the first time, as if I was a child playing old school for the first time, is really amazing.
I think the most osrs haters dont hate the ui itself just the default setups, for first timers its really confusing and it should have alot of the ui setup for you and alot of settings toggled from the get go
I use MTX in RS3 for cosmetics. It's really not a bad model. At the end of the day I'm still grinding my fishing skill for hours, except this time I can dress nice. Lol.
why compare every single thing to osrs? 2 seperate games played since 04 I loved the old version while playing it but always envisioned a game i wanted which rs3 is close to
Considering there was about 5 trillion (yes, TRILLion) gp duped into the game this january, you might want to maybe wait some weeks, have a look at the economical impact, and then decide if you wanna play long term/upgrade to member
That Raids SL BAIT SKIP was insane. 😂 Nice way to make fun of the common tropes there. But honestly, I hope they do sponsor you. I'm subbing because of this, since it was funny. I'm actually surprised your channel has so few subscribers, the video is very well done and it looks like you have lots of other good ones. Keep it up!
I've put in about 2,000+ hours into RuneScape 3 (then called RuneScape 2) when I joined in 2007. I've enjoyed it a lot over the years but largely feel the 'golden years' are long behind it being that time from 2006 to 2012. It's very hard to recommend to new players in 2023+ due to it's age and recent AGRESSIVE monetization from developer Jagex. The game straight up sells gold (bonds) and boosted XP which gives it a pay-2-win advantage (something original developer Andrew Gower was strongly against)
this video pretty much encapsulates exactly how i feel about RS3. the monetization is bad and the players know and generally dislike it. if you can look past that (or even benefit from it if you're someone with much less time for games) then you're left with an incredible game. it's really just an alternate universe version of the runescape we grew up with as kids. more convenience, much faster xp rates, a much more complex combat system and bosses to go with it. there are even instances where the RS3 version of something is arguably just better than the OSRS iteration. the mining and smithing rework is a good example of this. rune armor being usable at level 40 but needing level 90+ smithing and 85 mining to create makes no sense. RS3 addressed those issues directly while also making mining itself much more laid back and social by adding the stamina bar and removing competition over mining nodes. if you like runescape, you will like RS3. if you can't look past the micro-transactions (understandable btw) i strongly suggest playing as an ironman. tons of OSRS players already love the ironman game mode. it's the same idea in RS3, but again with the added convenience and faster xp rates yet none of the MTX. unfortunately, i don't see the monetization of the game every reverting or really improving, but that doesn't make the content that is already in the game bad. i love both OSRS and RS3. they are easily my most two played MMOs and games in general. we need more OSRS players to move past their stigma and give RS3 a genuine chance. i think they will be pleasantly surprised if they do.
Long time player opinion- Incredible video, touched on many different opinions. Overall agree with (almost) everything. Pay to win definitely exists, but its also 100% optional, and exceedingly expensive with RS Gold, or IRL $$ to progress in the game. The combat and UI are a definite challenge newer players face, but with learning, trial & error, make the game so much more enjoyable. All of the quality of life improvements (lodestones, toolbelt, keybinds, presets, run energy etc.) make the game move faster for the average player who may not have the free time depending on their life schedule. It would have been great to see your opinion of a before & after being shown more content in the game by a veteran player. Be it how to train quickly, what are some heavy lore quests, or how do you obtain super cool [armour/weapon] such as the dragon tier you mentioned. Overall, A+ from me. Thanks for reviewing the game I grew up with and enjoy to this day.
Great review! As a long time RS3 player I appreciate your perspective. The only critique I have is your understanding of the brand history. Some of your statements aren't quite correct. OldSchool was created after RS3 (therefore OldSchool is the "younger brother" - ow pitchfork). If you or others have 90 minutes to spare I'd suggest the RUclips video from Jagex "The RuneScape Documentary - 15 Years of Adventure". OldSchool isn't for me; I already played it when it was just "Runescape"; but I also embrace all my OldSchool die hards as family. MTX is a hot topic no matter which you play. See you in game! P.S. I can lend you a whip no problem ;) P.P.S. take my sub, you've earned it!
Hey man, great feedback! I'd say that when I refer to it as the older brother, it's because it's the older game (even though technically it was re-released more recently). Most people would refer to OSRS as the older game, so I think calling it the younger sibling would be confusing, ha! Man - I would absolutely take that whip lol! It's one of the best weapons in the MMO genre!
Genuinely curious here -- are OSRS players really this surprised at the similarities between the games? There are a few things that have been reworked or removed, but the vast majority of content is still around, albeit mostly less relevant than it was 16 years ago. It's been a rollercoaster of a ride at times (still have my Combat beta invitation in my bank lol), but I've never regretted sticking with the game as it has grown up. I think a lot of the folks that split off from EOC just never looked back and have carried those preconceptions for years, which ends up tainting newer OSRS players' perspectives as well. Thanks for this vid and well done. Now it would be interesting to see an OSRS first look from an RS3 player. Also, as an RS2 vet I can't resist... osrs is the successful *younger* sibling. ;D

I think it's great that you're enjoying the game and I appreciate the more positive outlook you show in this video! Unfortunately a lot of the issues with rhis game stem from the dated tick system. While early to mid game is still as fun as you remember -- if not moreso -- end game combat feels janky and unintuitive. You can get away with using Revolution over Manual for most of the game but it comes with disadvantages in hard fights. That said I really do hope Jagex fixes this in the future. I love RuneScape I just want the combat to meet the standards of a modern MMO is all. Having played FFXIV in recent years RS3 combat feels bad in comparison.
I’m thinking the fact that RS3 being talked about as if it was released after osrs or was released after the RuneScape we know and love to be a joke but I’m not sure😂 we all know that rs3 is rs classic, as well as rs2. It’s the rs we all played as a kid. Thinking it’s just a joke
when you start rs3 and youre an osrs player you cant go in to rs3 with the mindset that its like osrs it has similarities but in the grand scheme of things they are the same game gone different directions entirely.
great video. also funny part rs3 is osrs if you think about it just update in time. osrs is kinda the newer game but with looks from back in the day. i like both version all do i prefer rs3. the thing i never liked about osrs however is that it got updated to a point with rs3 version weapons and priff etc etc thats not realy osrs from back in the days but thats me. and for rs3 the mtx spam is whay to heavy .
SUBSCRIBE to help me get my Abyssal Whip ♥
Both is the way to go!
I think I need to find a new clan. I love my guys but got damn are they quiet and antisocial.
This video is exactly what the community needs. Thank you for doing this.
As someone who has been playing RS since 2004, I lived through and experienced it all. RS3 *is* RuneScape, like it or not. It's still the same great game overall and more people need to give it a chance.
Dude yes! I've really loved this game and continue to play it! I hope it keeps on growing!!
@@johnfisher8401 Make an ironman account and stop worrying about microtransactions and double xp weekends
@@johnfisher8401 there is no teddy bear heads and you can't walk around naked, you seem to be thinking about a different game.
As a RuneScape 3 player, loved this first impressions video! Seemed very accurate. Oh and this is actually the RS3 crystal bow design 14:55 and there is no cosmetic variant of this item currently
Thank you so much!
@15:00 it was a crystal bow :P
The rewritten quests are really making me want to play RS3 more.
so glad that u gave rs3 a shot, p2w sucks a lot that why i quit my main acc and got completionist on an iron
Those XP lamps give so little XP you'd have to be a nut job to try and buy enough spins to max out a skill.
You dont need 15 dungeoneering for mithril, you need it for the special resource dungeon inside of the mine which has mithril gold and phasmatite. Mithril ore also exists elsewhere.
I know but I liked that special room. Because it is special as am I. 😂😂
This is a channel is a freaking gem top notch production, humor, and content. Excited to see that sub count go straight up!
bro you're out here making my day! thank you so much for the kindness man!
12:37 thank you, for understanding this. So many people just plow through the game without enjoying to get to the end.
How do you only have 4k subs? This is amazing content and production quality. Keep it up!
Appreciated my man!! ❤️❤️
OSRS now has double or triple the amount of teleports that RS3 does lol just in the form of items and house teleports
after the 2.5 T dupe?
the accs were banned and he had nobody to dump this gold to, gold selling sites dont just buy that much gold if any
11:37 darn you got me. Here, have my sub :)
These are the rules 😂
"How many gaming communities you want to hate you?"
Brightlife: "Yes!"
What I like the most about the reviews is not only that they are good reviews but that they are also enjoyable videos I definitly gonna watch a second or third time ;)
Hahaha we all need to get made fun of at times right?? Always so thankful to have you her Systo ❤️
This vid brought me to your channel, gotta say I enjoyed the video and have saved 5 or 6 others to my watch later! I'm a long time osrs player who recently started playing rs3 on mobile and have a lot of the same sentiments as you. See ya on the next vid
Bro you’re too kind man! ❤️❤️
ive tried to quit and go to other games over the past 20 years , still playing this dam game tho
Ain’t no scape like the RuneScape bro!
Loved the commentary, humor, and the wholesome ending. Subbed!
Thanks bro!! ❤️
Ok but are we gonna talk about that PRS just hanging there? Beautiful guitar
Real ones know! Custom 22!! What do you play?
Both OSRS and RS3 are great games. My only mistake was grinding both on the same account :,)
Glad you’re enjoying them!! ❤️
Then move whatever you think you do need to wherever it doesn't get in the way.
off topic question...are you finished with LOTRO?
Hey man! Definitely not, stream it all the time! Just focusing on these types of videos as people seem to like them 😄
I tried to get into runescape a while ago but couldn’t. I think maybe it was because I didn’t have the nostalgia from growing up with it. What I did grow with was pirates 101, and now im gonna do research if it is still up.
Edit: its still up and now I know what im going to be doing on my Saturday.
Please tell me your pirate name is something like Jack Sparrow 😂
I can’t even remember, but young me would have chosen something very stupid
I didn't grow up with Runescape (I was playing stuff like Ultima Online, I'm a little older)... and I tried Runescape several times and just didn't get it. Then one day I tried it, and it clicked. You have to be in a certain kind of mood, and approach it with a certain type of mindset. It's about slowly (some would say boringly) and methodically building up stats for a sense of achievement. I don't play it all the time or anything, but it can be enjoyable.
Try it every couple years or so, it may click with you at some point.
@@mercster Thanks for the input. i will definitely try that out sometime.
Who’s going to tell him rs3 came out first?
It’s pretty nice seeing a rs3 video from someone who hasn’t been burnt out for the past 5 years like 90% of the rs3 content creator sphere
Absolutely! The video was already almost 30 without that can of worms ha! But that J1mmy video is really helpful to understand the EoC update.
There were no bosses on release besides like nex or kalphite king that required you to actually use the new abilities in any other way than "use ones that do most damage"
Most of the bosses became trivially easy to do.
If they were to make the default one better, I think more new players would be retained.
new to this channel, loved the way you deliver content with humor and knowledge! Subscribed
Damn, really well-done video brother. You deserve WAYYY more subs!
Great video. Impressive production value. And I really like your voice.
Something happen to my laptop. It used to run the game easily even on ultra graphics… can barely do anything now even in min graphics… 😢
Thanks man I really appreciate it!! ❤️
I'm a fan of Yak Track as it can encourage you to train your skills, give you a path.
yea lets not talk about the 7 trillion gold dupe that happened recently
accs were banned and he had nobody to dump this gold to, gold selling sites dont just buy that much gold if any, its not like all of the money is in the game now lol, you dummies really have no idea how any of this works
if you look into endgame content however. it would be somewhat reversed. rs3 is the non-chill game in that sense where osrs is the more casual simple game, simply due to the ammount of mechanics.
That’s awesome man!! I’m really glad that you’re enjoying the game so much!
I think the whole bit about the fire was lost on me when you already knew that there was a tinder box in the tool belt but otherwise great video! xD
how the hell does this guy only have 4k subs?!? we bout to send this dude to the moon.
🚀🚀🚀
Don't woosh me for this. The animation when firemaking has never been making a friction fire. You use a tinderbox, which would generally have a fluffy flammable material and a striker of some kind. Friction fires were only added with barbarian skilling, where you use a bow as a bowdrill instead of a tinderbox.
Whoooooosh 😂😂😂 just kidding bro. Good point. Shouldn’ta burned down California, I guess 😂
amazing video, amazing energy, great comedy. ty
Really well done, dude 🙏
Bro thank you so much!! ❤️
I did skip ahead but I went back when I noticed no real ad lol
very engaging video man, you deserve more recognition :)
thanks for reviewing my favorite game :)
Absolutely bro! Hope you enjoy Gileanor! ❤️
I heard they shelved Avatar Rework. Empty promises. Very cool
"hahahahaha there's NO WAY I'd wear that"
*cuts to him wearing that*
Someone finally caught it 😂😂
I quit RS over a decade ago.
Dude that’s awesome man! AFK iPad fishing has got to be the biggest RuneScape vibe 😂
Get them wasps bro! 👎🏼🐝
How about some ESO love???
Bro I am GAAAME! It’s on the list - love that game. And big news with the upcoming update as well!!
Well done ! Though we need more Trent & bring back MMO News !!! So many games have some great things coming ! 😊
Rs3 is the older brother. Its the original game, my character was made in 2006. OSRS is a modified version of real 2007 runescape.
Is etherscape the same company? What do you all think of etherscape?
Awesome video!
Dude!! This is so kind, thank you so much! I’m glad that a player of the game liked the review - that’s a huge honor!!
@@BrightlifeMMOs Just giving credit where it's due man. Keep up the good work!
Another great vid, maybe Dungeons and Dragons Online or Albion Online next? :D
There is already a video to D&D online you should check it out. It is very great ;)
Thanks broooo! DDO is out and Albion is on the list! You rock my man thanks for watching!!
Love the term Pay to Progress as mentioned. What would you be winning from doing TH, etc?
Definitely! I don’t want to take all the credit, I came across an awesome Reddit threat where they agreed that it was PtPF more than pay to win.
I think the most osrs haters dont hate the ui itself just the default setups, for first timers its really confusing and it should have alot of the ui setup for you and alot of settings toggled from the get go
rs3 is great well worth coming back to
I definitely think that everyone should give it a try!!
Nice!
I use MTX in RS3 for cosmetics. It's really not a bad model. At the end of the day I'm still grinding my fishing skill for hours, except this time I can dress nice. Lol.
why compare every single thing to osrs? 2 seperate games played since 04 I loved the old version while playing it but always envisioned a game i wanted which rs3 is close to
Yes I did almost skip forward. But you just called it trash and I was like... theres no way they allowed this
Considering there was about 5 trillion (yes, TRILLion) gp duped into the game this january, you might want to maybe wait some weeks, have a look at the economical impact, and then decide if you wanna play long term/upgrade to member
very true, but osrs had the zeal dupe too which dumped hundreds of bills too
not that simple, the accounts very obv banned and gold selling sites dont even buy gold anymore
The game straight up sells gold (bonds) and boosted XP which gives it a pay-2-win advantage (something original developer Andrew Gower was strongly against)
osrs main here just showing some love
Rs3 is like osrs except you’re actually allowed to have fun !
I really like the amount of effort you put into this video, it really shows
this video pretty much encapsulates exactly how i feel about RS3.
the monetization is bad and the players know and generally dislike it. if you can look past that (or even benefit from it if you're someone with much less time for games) then you're left with an incredible game. it's really just an alternate universe version of the runescape we grew up with as kids. more convenience, much faster xp rates, a much more complex combat system and bosses to go with it.
there are even instances where the RS3 version of something is arguably just better than the OSRS iteration. the mining and smithing rework is a good example of this. rune armor being usable at level 40 but needing level 90+ smithing and 85 mining to create makes no sense.
Just wait until he finds out about the t95 whip .-.
Long time player opinion-
Incredible video, touched on many different opinions.
Thanks for reviewing the game I grew up with and enjoy to this day.
subbed for the suit
It's one of the best weapons in the MMO genre!
short answer. HELL NO!
"Raid.. so i made you almost skip forward didn't I?"
Shit he got me! lol.
Also, as an RS2 vet I can't resist... osrs is the successful *younger* sibling. ;D

"Almost made me skip forward when RAID was mentioned" yes... let's say that :D
Great video from a third person view type of opinion. Thumbs up
Thanks so much man! ❤️
Pro Tip: Create your Account on mobile so you can experience the better tutorial. :)
shouldn't play rs3, play osrs. nuff
OSRS for PK'ing, RS3 for PvM'ing...
How I've always seen it personally...
also, Rs3 skilling is 1000x better, plus 120 capes.
great video. also funny part rs3 is osrs if you think about it just update in time. osrs is kinda the newer game but with looks from back in the day. i like both version all do i prefer rs3.
the thing i never liked about osrs however is that it got updated to a point with rs3 version weapons and priff etc etc thats not realy osrs from back in the days but thats me.
and for rs3 the mtx spam is whay to heavy .
Dragon armor and weapons can be achieved in 10 min in rs3 lolcrystal bows are a thing too lol
and?
@unreal magic it means the dragon weapon and armor buyable cosmetic isn't much of a big deal in rs3.
