  • This tutorial shows how to make a whimsical Ring with a talon motif. I was basing it off some similar dragon claw rings I've seen before. The stone I used is a 12x16 mm. This is an advanced level project. For materials, I used 8 gauge (3.25 mm) sterling half round wire, 18 gauge (1.02 mm) sterling sheet, and 3/16 inch (4.76 mm) fine silver bezel strip in 26 gauge (.41 mm). As always, I use hard silver sheet solder and a liquid flux.

      Thanks, but I can’t take credit for this style. I modeled it after some others I found online, so credit for design should go to those who made them first:)

    I saw the original design before. I like the way you made this ring, much easier than the original way. 👍👍

    That turned out awesome, Chad! You are always so inspiring and I love your design ideas. There are many talented metalsmiths / jewelry designers out there, but sometimes they stick to a certain one style and their pieces all look the same. I appreciate you working in all different styles. It makes things very interesting. Thank you!

    Wow, Chad, what a cool design! Your channel is always a first stop for me when I'm looking for inspiration for projects, and this design is right up my alley! I am definitely going to try and replicate this for myself. I facet my own stones, and I can't decide what would look the coolest in this setting. I'm thinking a dark red garnet, but then again, I thought either a peridot or blue topaz might look cool as well. What do you think? Thanks for your effort in providing continued content for the silversmithing community, we all appreciate you.

      Thanks Mike! I kind of wanted to do a garnet for this, but didn't have one in the right size and shape:)

    Love this ring design, can't wait to try it. I just watched your quick rings for stock inventory, very informative.. what silver stock would you suggest to keep at all times? Do you keep all gauges of wire and sheet or just certain gauges and type? Thank you 😊

    • @chadssilversmithing
      @chadssilversmithing  Месяц назад +1

      Hello Mazkay! I wish I could afford to keep some of everything on hand:). I don't think I've done a video on what sizes of stock I keep around--I may do that in the near future. As far as band materials, I keep 8 and 6 gauge, some small low dome half round, and various pattern wires. For sheet, I keep 18, 22, and 26 gauge on hand most of the time. Hope this helps!

    When you are shaping the bezel to fit the band, do yo ever use sandpaper on top of the band then sand the bezel down to the correct shape?
