- If your Honda EU3000 Generator is running crappy, or you can't even get it started, try cleaning or replacing the spark arrestor. I was ready to get rid of this generator, and my friend told me to clean the spark arrestor. Now it is running like new.

Thanks for vid .Just did mine dont have to pull muffler. Iv had my going on 15 years and run it 12 to 14 when we go off grid. I change oil every 3 tank full. 10/30 mobil one. Original battery. Knock on wood

Update - I had the same problem and have finally sorted the problem - I REMOVED the spark arrestor! No problems with autostart, or pull starting it. The generator starts easily, runs quieter and way more smoothly.

I also removed mine, I just didn't want to tell people to do that in the video in the off chance something bad happened.

Thank you for this video , very helpful ,,, one thought re the build up of carbon...looking at your generator "box" it looks small and may be limiting the air space needed for the generator to "breath " properly.. The tight space m ay be contributing to the carbon build up in the engine?? ( just a thought )

That's a good thought, one that I have pondered as well.
Did you adjust the valves? I had two different generators that I bought new and both had different issues at 100hrs. I adjusted the valves and it fixed both.
I haven't, but if it starts acting up again, that is what I will check
Same generator same problems. Something makes the generator run very rich when it gets very cold outside. My problems usually start when the temps hit around 10° or less. I took the screen out and “accidentally” forgot to put it back in. Problem fixed. (Although the spark plug still shows it running rich…)

A question re the motor oil I Know 10/30 is usual but cold weather starting and running ? Do you think of something like a 0/30 oil??
We do 10/30 summer and 5/30 winter. Winter temps average around 10⁰F and get as cold as -30⁰F and I have never had an issue.
Running eco mode fouls the spark arrestor ... only turn to eco mode once the engine has warmed up

I really like my Wen brand of inverter generator, but just take that spark arrestor out and leave it out.
