      @@RaysGuideI enjoy your videos and find them well thought out and informative. However, "Capital Ship" like all terminology is relative to its application. In this instance, CIG has established in lore there own (loose) criteria for what a capital ship is and from the pledge store "The Polaris is a nimble corvette-class capital ship...". So, saying otherwise is confusing and contradictory to the game itself. I recommend that if you disagree with the metric you should make a statement like "CIG classifies the Polaris as a capital ship. however, to me this does not fit the classification so i will refer to it as a sub-capital ship." or something like that to prevent confusion. Keep up the great content and I look forward to your next!

    Great ideas, especially on the emergency ladder to the escape pods. Im guessing 2xS5s on the turrets, although I cant say Im a fan of that. The big hitters on this ship are the torps, the turrets are for point defense, and the bigger the gun the harder itll be to hit dogfighters

      @@mizardelwana You are confusing old old kickstarter stuff and lore, the polaris “was designed” as a replacement to the Idris that grew in scope mirroring a real life situation. It was as a way to justify the polaris in lore, but really its because of further developments in the project like the hornet getting bigger and because of that also the Idris, and it having to appear later in sq42 and kickstarter promotional material etc. The game has change ALOT since kickstarter things are done way differently now there is no need to justify a concept like a funding goal back then. Sorry if i’m wrong lol I but tend not to forget these things.

      @@Stafernisy From the Wiki "During Bensday with Batgirl & Ben episode 45 (9 Mar 2016), Ben Lesnick commented that they were leaning towards a length of 100 to 120 meters. On October 12, 2016, the Polaris Q&A showed an increase of size to 155m. During a live steam Q&A on December 12, 2020, John Crewe stated that the ship had grown but remained in the 100s of meters range. (156-199m)."
      The first size of 100 to 120 meters would have put it as being smaller than the Hammerhead (120m) and just over the 600i (91m). At that point it was just a corvette subcapital. I was wrong though when saying it was changed last year, it was pretty much changed the same year if was revealed

    Thanks for a detailed walkthrough of the Polaris redesign :)
    Those "size 4" turrets DEFINITELY looks like they've been upgraded. My theorized estimate would be that they could be size 5 (or even size 6?) weapons/guns (maybe on a size 6 or 7 turret mount or even a bespoke mount for the ship?). This estimate/guess is based on the size of the turret compared to something like turrets on the Hercules, Carrack or Hammerhead, and also the size of the turrets themselves compared to the size of the escape pods. On other ship layouts size 4 turrets are not this big compared to something more static in size like escape pods.

    Alright, about those turrets...
    We can turn the measurements of the hangar given in the video (24x32x12) into centimeters (in this case the hangar stretches 11.5 cm from left to right), then we need to measure the size of one of the guns (i used one of the two front turrets for this) , which came out to be 3.8 cm. we then need to divide 3.8 by 11.5, now we have 0.3304347826 which we multiply by 32 and our final weapon size is around 10.6 meters (rounded up). Now i was struggling to find a weapon size comparison in meters on the internet, so I went ingame and checked out a size 6 gun in a weapon store, using my own character (1.83 m tall) as reference. After some really unnessecarily in depth guestimation a regular size 6 weapon seems to be about 7.71 meters in length on the small end, making the polaris with its 10.6 m turrets easily size 6.
    On a less mathematic and more logical note since the galaxy, a sub capital explorer ship not focused on combat i getting size 5 turrets it wouldnt make sense for the polaris, a capital ship focused on combat to not have size 6 turrets.

I expect that if there is a better layout the Devs will consider it before release, as for the bonks, I see two double bonks on the wall the two double in front of them, I could be wrong. The turrets are massive, if you take in account that the turret seems to be larger than the Command Officer's room, I will guess that they are at least size five maybe size six.

It was initially intended to take the Idris' place as a smaller capital ship, after the Idris puffed up in order to take ships in its hangar. Those turrets are sure larger than on the original concept. Very similar to the smaller turrets on the Javelin. Size 5 or 6 I would think. just look at their size compared to the Sabre in the hanger or the Captains Quarters below the translucent turret.

    Since the breakdown of the weapons in SC is S1-S4 is anti-fighter and S5-S10 is anti-capital, I'm guessing they'll be at least S5. But after standing next to the guns on display at IAE, I realized how huge these guns are and how bad I am at estimating them. I thought the S4 Rhino was big on my 325a or my 400i. But those S5s? It looks like both sides of the cargo bay open with ramps as the detail is the same on each side with pistons. If the part above the ramp also opened that would allow slightly larger vehicles access, maybe theNova or at least the Spartan APC. The turret guns look like size 5 and the front looks larger at size 6 perhaps.

    Nice video, but the ramp has always been there. Also the Polaris is a capital ship. They always said it was the smallest of capitals with some large components, but now it's certainly outgrown those as well. Turrets I'd say size 6 to 7 given ships like the Perseus. I hope the main gun is at least 7, but the secondary ones should be 5 at most. I'd actually prefer more smaller ones to deter fighters.

    The turrets will be size 5. I’m assuming that they are meant just to ward off fighters and not take out capital ships. That being said, the turrets are in an aggressive location and not so much defensively placed.
    They can’t be lower in power than the hammerhead.

    I own a solid path to a Polaris /Perseus and Galaxy, and I kinda have problems with random jutting of armor 'n struts 'n engines and general form of an RSI ship. Maybe they'll get it right when goaded by the community to do it on the first try from here on.
    I still say, it feels like somebody's been hired to measure each beam and opening to make sure we can't fit basic ship / vehic combos into a ship to make it a more powerful force....until the next concept is up for sale.

    Seriously I think it's up to us, the community, to untangle the capital vs subcapital vs large nomenclature. We all know that CIG's bad at naming stuff but people always get in arguments over these things and it'd be nice to establish some community wide consensus and category system that holds even if CIG call some ship X when it's not.
    The way I've seen it used the most is that you split it up by length and components, which leads to the Polaris, 890J, Reclaimer etc. being capitals, with the Polaris just being a small capital but not subcapital in class.
    The subcapital size is usually reserved for the really large ships, so a Connie ain't it of course but what makes it here is a bit more difficult. Because I personally wouldn't call a 600i a subcapital just a big large ship, same with the Herc but something like a Percy, HH, Carrack and Cat is. Imo a good way to cut it off would be by just saying 100 meters being the limit, purely for naming reasons.
    Also imo those are looking like S5s, maybe S6s. If I was CIG I'd be really careful with upgunning and undercrewing the Polaris all that much cause it might start cutting into the Perseus' abilities along with leaving the Polaris a bit more helpless against fighters. Sure repeaters are an option but those muzzle velocities aren't great for fighters and bombers zooming past your ship, bullying you and that one fighter in the hangar won't save the ship

    • @RaysGuide
      @RaysGuide  Год назад

      It is accurately called a corvette, a small warship. In Age of Sail days, it definitely would not qualify as a ship-of-the-line. Webster's defines Capital Ship as " a warship of the first rank in size and armament : a major surface ship (as a battleship, cruiser, aircraft carrier)" so the dictionary says no to a corvette.

    • @Meuduso1
      @Meuduso1 Год назад

      @@RaysGuide Yes but in my mind that's lore terminology, I'm talking for gameplay purposes so that if you say something is "subcapital sized" that everybody knows "Aw yep, that's about 100-130 meters" whereas a capital ship would be anything beyond that, same with how a Scorpius is a Heavy Fighter but still just a small ship, so everybody pictures a ship that's around 30 meters long but with a lot of guns and armor.
      In that sense the Polaris would be a capital sized Corvette, a Corvette meaning it's still just a small warship in the grand scheme of things but since it's in the ballpark of capital sizes it's already beyond 130 meters in length. Or the Reclaimer, a capital heavy salvage ship, meaning it's above 150 meters in length and equipped to do salvage.
      Meanwhile the Perseus is a subcapital frigate, so even if you don't know the ship exactly you think of something 100-130 meters in length and since it's a frigatte that means it's a warship with lots of guns and ordnance on it. You see what I mean?

  • @Warhammered
    @Warhammered Год назад

    Whatever the size, (probably at least 6 or 7) the bigger guns mean it's not just an anti-fighter Corvette. I'm considering CCU'ing one of my ships to it during Invictus.
    Anyways, all good suggestions for the interior. Those Snipes in the Engineering/Cargo deck will be screwed if they need to get to the escape pods without power or a direct route that isn't down because of a hull breach. But I do believe this ship will still need to carry cargo. The supplies needed might not take all of it, but long patrols could use up to half that space. Don't expect to use all of it for vehicles or snubs.
    Speaking of the snipes though, one thing all you civies keep missing on the specs is the Captain and CO rooms. These are redundant and mis-labeled. Any military person (I'm just prior Air Force and Army, served with heaps of Naval officers though. Or heck anyone who lives and breathes pre-2009 Star Trek) will tell you, the 'Captain' is the CO! CO stands for Commanding Officer.
    Captain isn't just a rank, it's also a title for anyone above and below that actual rank. (A Captain by courtesy as the old naval term went. Anyone from the lucky Ensign/Midshipman who survived the other officers' deaths to the Admiral taking in a command).
    The label for Captain's quarters should be CO and the label for the CO's room should be XO, known as the Executive Officer. It's smaller after all. The CO and XO should have their own rooms and that's how I'll be using them. CIG needs some damn prior service naval people on their team. They're obviously missing the most basic of information on how larger military ships are organised.

    I highly suspect that the turrets will be size 6. The torps are its main weapon, but the ships main focus is anti capital ship combat. Size 7's would be stepping on the toes of its little perseus brother and likely pack a bit too much punch when you have this many of them in one platform. 5's would probably be fine but that concept scaling looks bigger than 5s.

    Great video, although I think the position of the armoury is not that bad, if it was next to the EVA exits, it would also be easier for an invading force to take over, making it harder to defend the ship if it's been boarded.
    Also, I think those turrets might have S6 weapons, they are huge and compared to those 1SCU boxes, they appear bigger than S5 but they don't seem as big as the S7 Ion's cannon.
