    How amazing! The spider was a garden spider, they’re very useful in catching insects, non poisonous. One of my favorites! We had them in our garden as a kid and we never disturbed them or their webs as they were so useful, especially catching the moths that laid eggs on tomato plants and worms were very damaging.

      Thank you! It was such a beautiful spider. Flying insects would be crazy to be in this area. Between the plants and the spider webs, it's not safe!

    It's cool to see the bogs over in Texas, I hope to get over there soon. You should come back down south some time and check out all the other carnivorous plants the gulf coast has to offer.

      I wish I had more time and money to get down there more. I just got really lucky with this one! Maybe some day though!

    To be specific about the spider, garden/orb weaver is correctish. It’s actually a Southern Golden Silk Orb Weaver. The center “lightening” web is signature of all orb weavers. They’re glorious spiders with beautiful markings on the large females.

    I went here for my 15th birthday. Being from Texas, I wanted to see how carnivorous plants look in their natural environment. I will say it blew me away being an amateur botanist. I encourage anyone of any age to visit Big Thicket! The boardwalk is very slippery when it rains so be careful out there, especially in the shaded areas of the Sundew trail.

      Forgot to say this but, @carnivorousplantshub, I love your videos although I don't see them as often. I remember watching them in 2021 when I was a beginner carnivorous plant grower. Love to see you visited our beloved Big Thicket!!

      Yes, I felt so honored to be able to visit big thicket, it was completely random that I ended up in Houston for a basketball tournament! What a beautiful area, I just wish I had more time to spend in the park. And yes, those boardwalks get very slippery, I almost fell once! I always had a simple view of Texas, big, flat and lots of desert like areas. When I got off the freeway and entered the wooded area, I was so taken back. What a beautiful part of Texas. I would definitely visit again if I ever get the chance!

    That's really cool you got to experience that! I've never seen them in the wild, but hope to see them in the wild one day! They look amazing. I also live in the Pacific northwest, so maybe I could take a quick drive to see some darlingtonia.

    That spider looks like an Orb Weaver. It can bit, but they tend to be non- aggressive. We do have them all over the place in Texas! Loved the video! I do need to get out there and visit The Big Thicket! It’s only 4 hours away!

    You missed one - Darlingtonia - native to only California and Oregon.

  • @kevinpoe8137
    @kevinpoe8137 6 месяцев назад +1

    There are actually 6, you forgot the Darlingtonia

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub
      @CarnivorousPlantsHub  6 месяцев назад

      I think Darlingtonia is lumped into "pitcher plants". Nepenthes would be the only one missing.
