painting was really a bad idea. After some use ut will chip off and look worse than before painting.

If you heat the plastic with a heat gun it melts the oils on the top layer and restores it to pretty much new, I've seen it done in car videos for restoring faded bumpers and upholstery, I'd imagine it'll work for these type of plastics too (maybe). Great job getting it work again tho, but I feel it got ruined with the awful paint, I'd strip it back again!

Excellent restoration! You took what appears to be a heavily used and abused tool likely from the trash and made it completely serviceable again with maybe $35 in parts. I'm doing the same thing with a NI-CD 12v Dewalt drill and Samsung lithium batteries + a BMS is about $25 and I can't imagine the motor costs much since it's probably a fairly common one. Who cares about the paint you have a serviceable tool.

Always have the gear box in the number 1 gear when breaking the chuck loose. Otherwise you can likely damage the gear box.

It is always a good idea to repair things if you can, but as the drill was in such poor condition, it is fair to say the batteries will be shot too, sadly, the time to repair the drill body and the cost of the new batteries makes the whole exercise a financial non-starter. If you then factor in your time at say $10/hour and effort .....you would have been better off throwing the drill away. Good to see the inner workings of a Dewalt drill though. Stay safe.

its a spotwelder, its like a welder but it doesnt create an arc (or not as big as usual welding) and you dont ad material after it, the welder blasts a huge amount of current through the metal to basically melt the parts together.
