I can fall asleep fine but my lower back, right buttock and posterior lateral hip and thigh pain wake me up in the middle of the night.

Not a nighttime routine issue... either position or surface CJ!

I've had S-i and Sciatic issues for 5 years. I'm 72. I have found two (2) sleep positions that allow me to quickly get to sleep each night. Other sleep keys (perhaps odd) is to have my bedroom very cold; as cold at 59F, and to I have a small fan aimed at my exposed out-of-the-covers sciatic leg. Then, I can sleep like a dead man for 8 hours. Perhaps the cold eliminates inflammation. The next morning, I'm refreshed with my right leg practically frozen, but pain free.

I have tried every physical therapy known to mankind with fair results. During the day my pain is down to about a 2 on a 10 scale. Its low, but always there. The mildly discomforting Pain constantly reminds me (an ex athlete) that "time waits for no one." Tic Tock.

Good luck in your own health Journey.

Hey dr charlie i have two questions, is it ok to do the glute strength exercises that you showed like clamshells every single day or should i give my muscles a rest? And also is it safe to take a pill or two of aleve once a night to manage pain when sleeping until im fully pain free?

Hey! you could do them everyday... they shouldn't be overly taxing... if they are, likely you need to scale back. So long as you don't have any contraindications for taking Aleve *check with physician... then I don't see a major problem. It's likely not the solution, but if it takes the edge off, then okay. Solution is to figure out why symptoms are elevated to begin with- and change that. Pill will only mask.
      Make sense? Thanks for watching!

I thought maybe my issue was caused by my back due to some of the self tests I did previously...but I think it might coincide with the tests that also move my hip. Now I think I need to go back to the better than mri again and do more self tests! In this video, the back bend and the trunk twist were fine...the rest caused the pain...figure 4 probably the worst. :/ Thanks for the tips!

If figure 4 is bad I'd bet it's piriformis. I've made lots of progress by strengthening as per Dr. Charlie's advice. :)

If figure 4 is bad... then could be hip or PS or nerve. Let me know what you learn. Working on updating DIY Guide to make things more clear! Welcome Allison. let me know if ya need more help solving this.
