I hate how Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland seemed to set the standard for the looks of Disney remakes. Maybe Disney just has a thing for hiring directors that like greyish gritty styles, but seriously...every remake has this faded, dead feel to it. And even when they try to be colorful and warm, it still feels lifeless or robotic.

I think Cinderella avoids this, but even it has a soft watercolor feel that aside from her gown lacks vibrance. It has a very period piece feeling. The others all look like they have a green/gray colored filter on everything. This is turned up to 11 with the nw Peter Pan and Little Mermaid.

Cinderella: This one leads by miles. As an adaptation its just so-so, but as a Cinderella retelling it is wonderful. Lady Tremaine steals the show and everyone's acting is high quality. I can put this one on equal or close footing with the original and it gets better each time I watch it...unlike B&tB which degrades with each rewatch.
Jungle Book: While I'd still take the animated version any day, it's not bad and actually feels well made and not like it's an attack on the original.
Maleficent: Loved it on first viewing, but it's just so melodramatic and unnecessary on subsequent viewings. The fairies were ruined and I prefer Maleficent being evil. At least it tried something new.
Alice in Wonderland: I don't hate this one. It's bad. It's ugly and it's kind of like a nightmare. But it's also kind of fun.
101 Dalmatians: Glenn Close saved this from being near the bottom. Other than that, it's just okay. I do have fond memories of it.
Beauty and the Beast: Lacks any sort of charm. I also like the Beast's song. But everything is so autotuned. Also, every last inch of Gaston isn't covered in hair, apparently.
Lady and the Tramp: I agree. Nothing to hate here and nothing to love. The whole thing just exists and can't be lower or higher because it just doesn't matter.
Aladdin: Cringe inducing and absolutely ruined Jafar and Iago. Unforgivable.
Lion King: Why would anyone choose this over the original? Worse acting, worse songs, boring animals
Mulan: boring, souless and has none of the charm or strength of Mulan.
Pinocchio: This is an actual abomination.
I haven't seen Dumbo, so I can't comment on it.

The story is nothing like the original, none of the animals talk, the human characters suck (except for the ringmaster and V.A. It's not a coincidence that the good ones come from the Disney silver age (Cinderella through the Jungle Book). By this point, walt was fully invested in Disneyland, and the animated films suffered from not having his full attention. It doesn't help that the "string of pearls" narritive style of these films has aged like fine milk. Moral of the story: rather than remaking all time classics, like BOTB and Aladdin, Disney should focus on remaking beloved but flawed films from the 50's, 60's, mid-80's, and early 00's. Don't hire Tim Burton, and don't do a hack job just to put on Disney+.

I think Descendants is better than most of these live-action remakes because Descendants knows how to aim for the same audience as the animated fairytale Disney classics and retain what we liked about them in the medium of live-action, while not retelling the same story and instead choosing to focus on a new assortment of characters with a villain-to-hero redemption arc similar to what we liked in Megamind or Wreck-it Ralph. It was definitely better than the live-action Mulan remake and Cruella movies. April 20, 2023, 2:20pm

I really loved Belle from the original Disney Beauty and the Beast and I thought the live action was disappointing in that regard, but I did really like the set designs and a couple of new things they added (like the music box and expanded LeFou, not the beginning of the curse or Belle's dress though, didn't like that much). So middling sounds about right.
It's hardly suprising that Cinderella is the best, Cinderella has pretty much the most adaptations of all fairytales followed by Snow White I think, they're both fairly simple stories that you can add or change pretty much anything you want. Ever After is still the best live-action version hands down though.

And yes, the animation is not quite as charming as the original (though, it does have more life to it than The Lion King or Mulan or Peter Pan). However, the story is quite fascinating! I love that it’s about Alice learning to be herself, in a time where both her society and the Red Queen are trying to control her every move, and kill the imagination, whimsy, and creativity she dearly values in life. (In fact, I think the darker style of the movie further supports this plot!) The music is hauntingly beautiful, the lore of Wonderland (or “Underland”) is expanded in unique ways, and the characters are given their own lives (even if not enough time is spent with them to explore those lives.)

I would put Beauty and the Beast at the bottom because, for me, it took one of the greatest animations (to me, the best Disney movie) and transformed it in a mediocre movie. It has no passion at all. It's just standing there, nobody cares even to talk about it.

My favorite is Beauty& the Beast because I love they added in character lore with Belle's mother, the Enchantress who cursed the Beast and Adam's family.
But I will have loved if disney made live action movies based on the Twisted tales stories books that are What if stories but Darker. Like what if Belle's mother cursed the Beast? Or What if Ariel had never defeated Ursula?

That sounds good to me! Since most of these live-action remakes or adaptations want to aim for a darker and edgier tone than their animated counterparts, that would be a nice way to take full advantage of not being in the medium of animation.

I honestly thought adding a backstory to her mom wasn’t a good idea. It didn’t go anywhere in the story and didn’t add much to Belle’s character (who was drastically different thnx to Emma Watson🫤).
The Enchantress scenes were just her walking around while acting mysterious, or being in the background other than saving Maurice. She also interrupted the sad moment between Belle and the Beast at the end by saving him when it should’v been a private moment like in the animated movie.
      But that’s just my thoughts.

Very interesting rank, here's mine (of what I've seen). The ones that rank low for me either didn't bring anything new to the story or were changed in a way that pales in comparison to the animated films. The ones that rank higher I felt did better at offering an enjoyable experience blending classic traits with modern ones
    1. Jungle Book
    2. Aladdin
    3. Maleficent
    4. Dumbo
    5. Cinderella
    6. Beauty and the Beast
    7. Alice in Wonderland

Something I want to tell you I despise the lion king remake. For many reasons:
    1. The music is ruined.
    2. The disrespect after I realized in more reviews.
    3. How it ruined my love for the characters.
    4. This garbage does have great animation. (A positive)
    5. This movie made me cry (the only two positives.)
Another note: I love the jungle book remake and the Aladdin remake. That’s my opinion but hey it’s just my opinion.

I can really sense your dislike for the 2019 Lion King. However, when I went to see it, I knew what I was getting, so I didn’t feel cheated or duped like how others felt. Also, Disney never said it was a live action remake. They just said it was a remake. Everyone else called it “live action” because it looked love action, but I digress.
If I were to make a ranking of the Disney Remakes, I’d list them like this, because I feel there are some on here that are far worse than the Lion King that were ranked higher. But, it’s your channel and you’re ranking what did or didn’t work for you.

I hate Mulan 2020 because this director is missing the point to the original. I get this person want something realistic however what’s not realistic is when the Rorens we’re running up the wall instead using the grappling hook like the OG. Same with the phoenix, which has no purpose to Mulan and same thing with the witch. I hate Mary sue because it’s stupid and not realistic. I’m not sure who’s idea to make Mulan Mary sue, he/she probably confuse with reality to fiction. I don’t blame the actress who plays Mulan in 2020 but once saw her act, she shows no emotion. And I don’t like her behavior towards the soldiers because she thinks she’s better than them just because she has chi power. Again, dumbest idea ever. 😒 I don’t understand why they took out Shang, in the OG, he wasn’t inappropriately taken advantage to Mulan/Ping, he was respectful and took his job seriously as captain. So it’s okay a soldier to do things with Mulan but not Shang. Once again that nameless soldier serves no purpose for Mulan as a character. Phoenix makes absolutely no sense, all it did just flies around looking dumb instead helping or guiding Mulan to her journey. Mushu who actually guides Mulan to her path and became the hero of China. The witch is also pretty stupid, I don’t k ow what are o say to that, still pretty stupid.
