- Every 6000 miles the oil and filter needs changing on the BMW S1000R.
Here's how i go about doing it. Remember i am no trained mechanic and if you choose to do the job based on this video than thats at your own risk.
All information can be found in the haynes manual for the BMW S1000R
www.ebay.co.uk...
Few things to note are the correct oil type - 5W/40
oil filter and removal tool - www.ebay.co.uk...
sump washers - www.ebay.co.uk...
Torque settings - sump plug - 28NM
oil filter - 11NM
Remember to dispose of your used oil correctly, phone your local council to see if then can advise you for a local disposal centre.
Thanks for watching!!!!!!
TOP TIP: To avoid the mess on the pipes, cover them in aluminum foil first, and shape a pathway in the foil down towards the drain pan. No mess!
That’s a good tip! Be trying that next oil change👍

Well done, Wats. I've got the same bike and need to tackle the job soon. Thanks for the nice walk-through.
Good tutorial video, funny how BM put the sight glass on the other side.
Jim Diesel thanks! I think it’s better than a tiny dipstick though. 👍
@@Wats1984 Anything's better than a tiny dipstick, Watty
Spot on, thanks for this. Great tip below about the foil.
Thanks for the positive comment! Yeah good tip below with the foil. 👍
I was looking for this type of video & glad I found this. Great tips and I'll be doing mine (I also have an s1000r) this weekend.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, thanks for putting it together
Thanks for the comment!
I just put 3.5l in and the sightglass is all the way covered, it's also like this when it comes back from the dealer and they said it's not a problem
Great video many thanks for sharing. Can I ask what is the normal running temperature to check the oil at.
Thanks in advance and once again great video 👍
@@brynster101 thanks for the comment. I just run it till the fan kicks in. Keeping an eye on the glass. Cause if it goes empty I’d turn it off and top it up. 👍
@@Wats1984 thanks for getting back to me so quickly. That's spot on. My mission for tomorrow 👍
@@brynster101 no worries. Just take your time. 👍
@@Wats1984 Will do 👍
thnx for the vid bro
Thanks for the comment ! 👍
Great vid Wats. Is there any particular oil that you'd recommend? I'm assuming you use the premium types, also what make & type are the hand guards ? Thanks.
Cheers! I personally don't recommend oil as its like tyres in my opinion. Everyone has there own particular brand they like and trust. Just make sure its the correct type is my main advice.
The hand guards are from powerbronze. This link below will take to the ebay page for the same ones.

@@Wats1984 Youre a gentleman, thank you kindly 👍🏻
Great video. So many out there on the s1000rr but very few on the single r. So I thank you from Canada.
Hey hello!! what type of torque wrench are you using? I'm trying to find one on amazon and the minimum torque that I found is at 10 ft/lb and that translate to 13.5 NM
Thanks for the comment. I have a bigger range one 28 to 210nm and a smaller range one that does 5 - 25nm.
Do the hand guards make any difference in in cold conditions?
Muz 15 thanks for the comment. Yeah I find they do. They help in the rain as well as it stops the moisture being forced into your hands. 👍
hi,whats the wrench size? 1/2 or 3/8?
Hi! Mines a 1/2 drive. 👍
@@Wats1984 Possible to help n check the oil filer removal tool diameter? is 74mm olr 76mm
@@chewrick565 believe it to be 74mm. Have a look on eBay, plenty there 👍
