  • Got this at an auction a couple of months ago. I don't think it has run for 60 or 70 years. I was told it ran an air compressor at a mine in Warren, Idaho. This is the first start since then. I had to use air to start it because you can see I'm just too small to turn it over.

Glad to see it get running clockwise so it can throw the oil properly to lube the rod and main bearings.

    Start it once
    Let it run for ever.

ticks over great! i am by no means an expert, but i believe your issue with the air start is that you're giving it air for too long a duration. i think you want to shut off air before the piston uncovers the exhaust port. that way the inertia from the spinning flywheels doesn't have to overcome compression AND the extra air that you're giving it with the compressor. good luck!

Fun thing to do with these is get a good good audio recording if it and lay it over itself 4-12 times with a small delay in between it layer of audio. Literally sounds like a common modern engine!

I see this Fairbank can also do that running with zero revolutions !!, all big single cylinder 2 strokes can do that i think. Buldog lance tractors does the same :-))

Not hot enough and flooded. If you get it hot enough and give it 2 shots of fuel it'll take off by hand rolling it hard towards the head and let it go!

😊 OSHA purist must be grabbing their chests. These monuments to Darwin awards. If you’re dumb enough to do stupid things around them, you deserve what you get. My dad had a 5HP FM engine. He got it when I was about 12 years old. He told me to be careful around it. It didn’t take much of a genius to figure how much pain it could inflict if you weren’t careful around it.
