I remember there being one crazy-hard-to-install bolt on the water pump that I really struggled with (engine in the car - 997). Good to know that the business end of the T-stat can easily be replaced. It seems like such a waste to buy it with a new housing like I did. I realize there are two distinct opinions on the metal / plastic impeller drama. Hard to know who to believe. I went metal, as I figured I might hear it hitting the case if it were starting to fail. If plastic bits were breaking off...how would you know? Truth be told, as I can easily commit to changing the water pump every 60-80k miles or so, I figure breaking one should never be an issue. That said, I do have more faith in metal impellers. Water pumps have had metal impellers forever and I don't think wallowing out the block has been a big issue.
