I was born and grew up on Prince Edward Island (the other one - in Canada). It is pastoral, lies in the southern reaches of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, is over 5,000 square km and has a population of over 180,000. It is a Canadian province in it's own right, and hosted a conference in 1864 which led to Canadian confederation. Cheers from the other side of the world.
Thanks for sharing. I am approaching the islands about 80 miles ahead at the moment on my virtual routing app. 😄
Very interesting. I had no idea that S.A owned 2 other beautiful islands. As I'm sure most other people are unaware.
Thanks for the education
thanks for the great content
You didn't have to swear.
Beautiful video. And very informative.
Thank you for watching!
It kind of sucks that ordinary non-researchers can't visit the islands
I know right! I’d love to visit the islands! 😁
I mean, just get a ship
There appear to be a couple of interesting astrophysics experiments on Marion Island; Probing Radio Intensity at high-Z from Marion (PRIZM) and Array of Long Baseline Antennas for Taking Radio Observation from Sub-Antarctic (ALBATROS) per Wikipedia.
I've been following The Vendee' Globe around the world sailing race and they are approaching this island chain now. I never heard of these island, ( I live in Los Angeles,) and I have a deep fascination with remote places. I really appreciate your in depth explanation of these islands, very interesting. Whomever thought that introducing cats to eradicate mice when there are so many bird species around was such a bad idea.
Good information about the island, thank you
Can we start building RDP houses there please 🙂
We, here in Canada, also have a province called "Prince Edward Island" (singular), and it was named after the same prince (the 4th son of George III). Being the 4th son of a king will usually relegate you as a footnote in history and your descendants will eventually be considered a commoner, given time. So why would anyone name an island after a prince of such insignificance? After all, there's no chance he will ever become king. Right? Well, that's true. But in this case, it should probably be mentioned that he is actually the father of Queen Victoria ... now there's a name we all know! (Prince Edward, her father, died in 1820, a year after she was born.)
We administer at least 31 islands, some uninhabited due to volcanos 😮 and others are marine protected 😱❤
I wanna buy those islands and start my own country
You can buy a large farm first, and pretend that you are the Queen of the land.
Its much cheaper to start.😁
I'm seriously concerned for the birds being attacked by mice. With all the horrors in the world this surely is the most alarming. Those mice are probably causing global warming too with their farts.
Well, Robben Island is also a South African island, so there are at least three. Probably maaaany more. But whatever, if you prefer stupid fuxking clickbait titles...
Correct, mainland SA has a few small islands around the coast, what's fascinating about these two is that they are 2000km away. :)
