  • Great shark encounters at Tiger Beach and Bimini with Tiger sharks, Great Hammerhead sharks, Lemon sharks, Nurse Sharks and Carribean Reef Sharks!
The Bahamas, and especially Tiger Beach (for the Tiger sharks) and Bimini (for the Great Hammerheads), is ‘the’ place in the world for shark diving without cage.
Aboard of M/V Dolphin Dream we made 18 dives during a week at sea. After category 5 hurricane Dorian in September 2019 the visibility underwater was still a bit murky in November. The dives and encounters with the sharks were amazing, but it was difficult to do proper video shooting, we made the best of it.
I know there is discussion about shark feeding. Is it right to feed sharks to attract them and bring them in contact with divers? It’s for sure a difficult question. But one thing is clear, the feeding will bring them very close to the divers, so you can experience there enourmous power. Tiger sharks and Great Hammerheads deserve great respect.
Sharks are the most misunderstood animals in the ocean. Contrary to what many people think, sharks are normally not interested in attacking people. The opposite is true, 100 million sharks are killed each year by human, 3 sharks a second.
This movie is the result of around 12 hours of 4k video footage. Shot in November 2019.
    Used camera’s:
    - Sony FDR-AX700 4K with Gates housing, Gates GP34 Wide Angle Port and Sealife Sea Dragon 2500 lights

Incredible footage. However as I see more footage of people hand feeding sharks it reminds me that it has been proven sharks will associate people with a free meal of hand fed enough and if desperate enough for food might attack divers in search of fish. Happened near India a few years ago

Magnificent video. It beaks my heart knowing that sharks are getting decimated. Protecting them should be a number one priority and enforcement must be taken seriously.

Crazy video, I was looking up shark 4k and found this. This has to be a unreal experience! This made me feel like I don’t understand our planet fully. Look at the creatures that live here. Unreal. I’ve been considering learning to dive. But I’m scared of sharks haha but seeing you guys feeding them made me think differently because they didn’t even attack. Thanks for sharing! Take care!

I am curious, is feeding sharks a good idea? Perhaps it makes no difference, I just wonder if later on, it becomes hazardous for recreational swimmers and divers? Like bears in Montana, once they get fed, they actually seek out people instead of shying away from them. Maybe a biologist can answer.

Hello how do you do the white balance do you use a white or gray card? I really like your videos on your channel. I also have an FDR-AX700 I'm grateful for every tip.

Thanks! No, this time I did not use a white card.. I've used the sandy bottom for white balancing. Next time I will definitely use a white card! Great tips for the best underwater settings can be found at: www.gateshousings.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/AX700-Z90-Housing-Recommended-Settings-R2.pdf

    • @JurrienWiss
      @JurrienWiss  4 года назад

I normally shoot in BT709, 25 fps, shutter 50, ISO max. 400, manual white balance.. and afterwards a lot of color grading

Idk. I bet a few people that bobbed in the ocean after their ships sank... might have a different opinion about sharks attacking humans.

Like all your other videos it was beautiful, of course even for this one I see 2 morons give you a thumbs down ( probably are the human excrements that eat shark fin soup). What I wish for the idiots who eat such things is to be eaten by the sharks ASAP. Cheers Jurrien and thanks again for the amazing video and awareness you try to bring with your work.

  • @AllisonGreen-qd5wo

This is beautiful cinematography like all your videos, but people absolutely should not be feeding sharks, ESPECIALLY by hand. This alters sharks' natural behaviors, which can lead to them associating humans with food. Increasing the likelihood of shark attacks on humans endangers sharks even more as people are less likely to protect sharks and more likely to hunt them or support mass killings of sharks :(
