They got two semi pro football teams to play each other and the fans called the plays via QUBE. The game took over 7 and half hours. So much for fan controlled football.

It's hard to fathom when this system introduced, there was no ESPN, CNN, MTV, and to a lesser extent, because of Pinwheel, Nickelodeon. All you really had if you were a cable subscriber was maybe HBO, WGN, and Superstation WTBS. And thanks to this system, several of the channels I previously mentioned came to be.

Yea for the longest time it was just the big 3. Cable helped usher in our current era of cultural fragmenation

The computer that polled and controlled this system was classified for its time. It was capable of polling thousands of Qube terminals in a matter of seconds. Only a few techs had access to the room it was kept in.
It was a system that wAs at least 40 years before it’s time. Yes I was one of the few test customers for it test rollout. Fun times!

The QUBE was inspired by a similar device used in a Japanese hotel...

That cartoon that shows up at 4:30 is an episode of Poland's famous "Bolek & Lolek" series.

If we still only had 30 channels, we might have better stuff ;-)

@@ChristopherSobieniak Cable TV started out as the Mercedes of television, before becoming affordable like a Toyota. These days, cord cutters/cord nevers avoid it like it's that rusted-up 1979 Ford pick-up truck with a missing headlight, now that broadcast TV improved with new technology while still being compatible with old TV antennas, and there's other options are available, like IPTV, streaming video, etc...
