@GospelMusicians Amen. Amen. Amen. Back when I sponsor with Korg (I've got an 01wpro, a MS-10, Triton Extreme, and a Kronos) I always told people that I bought Korg (and Kurtz) for the sound quality and touch. That's it. Inspiration and gigging come easy once the sound and touch is right. Layering for any synth player worth his salt is an easy task. I do sequencing for occasional apprg. or beats and recordings now and then, but for the beauty of the live sound, well it has to be live.
How refreshing to see a fantastic musician getting excited about an instrument; so any other reviews of keyboards are overly critical and just look for flaws in the products.
Slight correction about "physical modelled" EPs. They're not physically modelled. They're sample analysis/resynthesis, which is quite a bit different procedure (and it uses samples, whereas physically modelled instruments use pure math to create the sound from scratch, without any samples). But to hell with technicalities, this board plays and sounds great!
Replaced my Yamaha Motif XS6 with a Kronos last March. I thought certain sounds I would miss. Kronos has knocked out the Yamaha. I have a 61. I do use a Yamaha digital piano with a FC3 damper as a MIDI controller and the Korg pianos shine all the more. But I play the Korg keys of organ and EP. Sweetness. Plus my AKAI EWIUSB plugs directly into the usb of the Kronos. No computer needed. Get the Kronos! A sick machine indeed.
@alderige1 I"m also not done reviewing the keyboard and as you can see I did not buy it, so I am limited to what I can do in the store as well. Most player's I know use Pianos, Rhodes, and strings the most in a live and studio setting, so that's what I focused the most on.
Thanks Jamal. I noticed that someone flamed on you about not reviewing the other aspects of this keyboard. Your title clearly states: Korg Kronos Sound Demo etc. I have been a Korg man for 12 years and can testify to having some messed up pianos to play with with maybe 1 or 2 decent patches in between. Finally there is something coming from them that fixes those few things. It's all about having a thick rich vibrant sound. So as for me, Korg has finally listened.
My brother, you are a truly gifted musician & I am in awe of your playing & technique. I too am a Yamaha nut & I too played the Kronos & was taken a back by this board. Korg came out kicking & screaming with this one. LOL Take care brother & keep on playing.
great great great great great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm a pianist too i'm considering to buy the kronos soon, you're really great keep up the good work !
That Frank McComb Rhodes he starts off with is FIRE!! Helps that Korg actually had the artists themselves (George Duke, Frank McComb, Herbie Hancock) personally have a hand in designing the sounds, it should be near exact. The Korg SV1 sound engine was thrown right into the Kronos, so it should be close.
@GospelMusicians That's also what 95% of keyboard-based musicians are focussed on these days too Jamal. You're never going to please everyone...The review is dope
@alderige1 @puronicoya is right. This is not my forfeit and I'm not trying to be something I'm not. I'm speaking to the the gig musicians and most of the musicians I know who play for people like Bionce, Lauren Hill, the Roots, Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, they don't use sequencers EVER! They play the sounds and layer them. Sequencing and all that extra stuff is what a computer and Logic is for. I was review the Kronos for sounds and inspiration, because ultimately that's why you buy, IMHO
Korg stepped that EP game Up!! I always liked their Piano sound better than Yamaha. Yamaha has beast EPs but this Korg's EP sound Great!! Thats my next keyboard
I was a Korg guy for years, then bought the XF because it sounded so good next to Triton etc, filled it with sounds, (+ Firewire for VSTi to DAW, 2gb hard mem) but never despite DVDs never figured out my writing workflow on the XF, just cant get at home with the file system, but the Kronos was not in the store that day. The thickness of the Yamaha made me switch to Yam... yet I dislike the multi-timbral song mode, & Perform. Years hence, bro...Thanks for the review.
I've loved Yamaha my whole life and I'm sorry but if given the choice between the XF and Kronos, just by the first piano sound alone, I'd take the Kronos. And guys please remember that we are listening to this on youtube so the sound quality on the video and the sound quality in real life are going to be different. The one in real life will be better. So if the one on this video is amazing sounding how will one in real life sound? AWESOME!!!!!! 8D
Jamal you do a great job of reviewing keyboards. I just love the Rhodes sounds you are playing .... and when you call them beautiful I am in total agreement. The dynamics of the Rhodes patches combined with your playing really is beautiful and convinces me about the Kronos's abilities. You have my support at my website Synthzone.
and thats exactly why I watched this review. Im tired of looking for a review and all I see is dudes playing around with a vocoder and playing synth leads. All i wanna see is the board and hear its sounds. im not sampling, using daw integration, or sequencing during a performance.
Okay it sounds great but is it better than the motif xf all round? bearing in mind you can buy after market piano sounds for the motif which are incredible specialy from K sounds. I do not have a Yamaha or Korg and I am trying to make my mind up which way to go and I would value your opinion on this. Thanks Duncs from the UK
Mr. jamal besides being gifted and years of practice how did you get to the level of musicianship your at. I listen to you play and it makes me want to cry, i'm gifted with the ability to hear music and sort of play it. what do i need to learn to get like you. Thank You
Hey Jamal. What Keyboard would you recommend to a person that has been making beats and recording for a little over a year, but wants to expand his sound quality, and also wants to get into live music. What would be the best and most cost efficient next move? thanks
If you dont mind answering, from 1:45-1:49 and 11:06-11:09 are you doing circle of fifths or related majors or minors? What is that called and can you break it down or make a video about it?
My thoughts are, the video doesn't do it justice. It was difficult to tell the differences between the pianos on the video. When I sit down at my Kronos and listen through good reference monitors it is easy to tell the difference, but not so much in this video. You really have to sit down to appreciate the feel of the keys and the sonic quality. I am surprised that there are few places you can sit down and try this keyboard. I had to buy mine because it wasn't on display anywhere in my state (Utah) Of course, neither was a Genos or a Montage.
I believe those are Yamaha HS80Ms, but if that's outside of your budget and you're not going to be using the monitors to mix music, you could go with a whole bunch of lower priced options. I would start looking at Mackie, KRK, and M-Audio for their 5" to 6" ish monitors. They are pretty accurate and a really good value.
I have seen many of your videos and I think your reviews are great! I'm the kind of guy who likes the talking parts as well, any information that can aid you in your purchase is useful! Since, I'm new into synths and workstations I'm wondering what you would purchase if you were only allowed to have have one workstation/synth for live and studio recordings?
Dude, you are a true musician, ignore that alderige1 guy. Gospel licks are boring? Maybe for someone who has no harmonic perception. You worry about the actual music and let him worry about the boring technicalities.
I've loved Yamaha my whole life and I'm sorry but if given the choice just by the first piano sound alone, I'd take the Kronos. And guys please remember that we are listening to this on youtube so the sound quality on the video and the sound quality in real life are going to be different. The one in real life will be better. So if the one on this video is amazing sounding how will one in real life sound? AWESOME!!!!!! 8D
Ouch... Ok. Thanks. By the way... I am truly grateful for what you do for us musicians. Love your style and your passion. I plan on getting your Jamal's Sounds flash for the XF, but I'll need help with installation. LoL
It depends which model. The 73/88 note models have a hammer action which is close (but not the same as) a real piano - although arguably it is a better action than most of the pianos out there. There is no way the 61 key can be called weighted (I have one), but it is the most playable synth action I've ever come across - you can play fast and expressively if you adjust the global response to suit you properly.
So would you go for a Kronos? I ama a Yamaha man too......and 20 years ago used alot of Roland but never liked Korg....and also have you tested the Montage?
As a rompler keyboard... and for the money, kronos is a winner over montage... im a user of motif series and tried them all. Also i used roland boards too. The only advantage of montage is the synth sounds..
Espero haberte ayudado
are you crazy ?!? you call beautiful harmonies and melodies boring ?!?!?!?! you should be ashamed of yourself ! that guy is playing really great and he makes great review !!!
@alderige1 alot of the stuff you want reviewed is pretty outdated on a hardware keyboard, however i do remember how I relied on them for so long before i got into my own recording setup. and sometimes i really do prefer to sequence w my triton...but i have sinced moved to my laptop for all my live needs which includes samples, sequence triggers and core sounds such as pianos, strings, organ etc...
@charlesshamwell Yeah that was because I was about to order the XS5 because I found it on clearance somewhere but after seeing what the Kronos can do, and me being a Korg person anyway I was like MAN!!!! I LOVE what this thing can do. Unfortunately my limit doesn't allow for the XF or the Kronos yet so I will proceed with the XS (a late present for me from someone else) and save up for the Kronos myself unless by the time I'm ready Korg has something even better, lol
chriscauldermusic no.. but some of the sounds yes, but not all. And the output of the kronos is way great quality than the kross so that would make a difference when u plug it out to your mixer or PA amplifier..
@alderige1 he's more about what the sounds are like. he gigs, plays at church etc.. which is more important to him. it would been nice to hear other keyboards beside it though.
Bro get the krome!! That piano is a gig. That's the lil brother of this!!! It's not quite touching this but its pretty close. The m50 has better synth sounds tho if you ask me. Krome and m50 does have EDS synth engines tho. Just don't share the same sounds. So krome has better acoustic sounds while m50 has better synth sounds. I'm looking to get them both!!
Man those Piano's were amazing and I have to say are better on Kronos I dont like the Rhodes though better than the Chic Corea rhodes on the XF.. Makes The Kronos rhodes sound like a midi controller keyboard. I can tell Jamal is trying to sell this but even he knows those Rhodes are not messing with the XF. However the piano is nice and rich with the Kronos
I'd have to agree. IMO Korg's never gotten a "real" sounding Rhodes patch together. They're too dramatic, too much bell and bark, not enough of the in between. I thought they would've realized that with the sv1. Yes the pianos are lush and in your face but you need at least one good all around Rhodes patch.
I disagree completely. Starting with the OASYS, then the Vintage Piano, now the Kronos, nothing Yamaha made or currently makes can outperform the Korg in the Rhodes catetory. Give it a year or two, Yamaha will briefly leapfrog them, and then Korg will re-assert it's dominance once again with something even more amazing than the Kronos.
i want to know what you tell about the different keys the semi weight or weight keys of the 88 korg kronos , i dont know what switch people tell that weight keys of 88 keyboard are bad and problematic. Thanks for all god bless you
@GospelMusicians Jamal brother man... even Jesus had his haters.. what do you expect on a so called "real world" lol great review man.. and I'm also a Yamaha guy and I've been itching all over for this 61 keys.. lol but only to pair with my xf7... GOD BLESS and keep up the great work. u make the difference foshooo.. :)

This is the best keyboard. I sat in guitar center for 3 hrs played it. I'm thinking about getting the 88. Thanks for the review bruh God Bless

@GospelMusicians - I dig everything you did on all of your videos. Which is why the Kronos 88 key is in my house.
Boy you are something else my man. Excellent touch. I'm a guitarist, so I am completely in awe.
Dude makes me want one of these like a mug
@Francisco R. Martins thank my friend! You can go to our website and lee have about 12 DVDs teaching the techniques.
Ahhh ! Your playing is wonderful man, awesome music you do :)
yo Korg is stepping up the pianos and rhodes actually sounds like a real grand piano and a fender rhodes OMG
My brother, you are a truly gifted musician & I am in awe of your playing & technique. I too am a Yamaha nut & I too played the Kronos & was taken a back by this board. Korg came out kicking & screaming with this one. LOL Take care brother & keep on playing.

the keyboard is just a machine,, it's take should to bring it to life,, love your playing man ..

That cameras mic was way to harsh on the beautiful sound.
Your playing bought me a smile. Keep it up.
@samuelq1 I don't teach jazz expicitly, but the Urban Worship Xtreme will give you some jazz.
Some fine playing there.
Great synth, wonderful playing...but someone get this guy a nice Zoom Q2N!
lol. I don't think it's just the korg. I think you're just amazing that the piano
and thats exactly why I watched this review. Im tired of looking for a review and all I see is dudes playing around with a vocoder and playing synth leads. All i wanna see is the board and hear its sounds. im not sampling, using daw integration, or sequencing during a performance.
hi Jamal, does the Kronos has the "Attack Piano" sound the Triton has?????????
Krome does and king korg
Okay it sounds great but is it better than the motif xf all round?
bearing in mind you can buy after market piano sounds for the motif which are incredible specialy from K sounds.
I do not have a Yamaha or Korg and I am trying to make my mind up which way to go and I would value your opinion on this.

God bless you, you are an amazing player, greetings from México, God Bless you...
Jamal is awesome and there not boring jazz chords
Excellent demo, thanks.
By the way, where can I learn how to play like that?
If I wanted some instructional videos on this jazz/ worship style you have in the beginning, what DVD would you recommend?
Mr. jamal besides being gifted and years of practice how did you get to the level of musicianship your at. I listen to you play and it makes me want to cry, i'm gifted with the ability to hear music and sort of play it. what do i need to learn to get like you. Thank You
ability to smile inside and enjoy every moment with the piano, scales.. jazz scales, boggie wogie, mess about enjoy yourself
Oh Jamal That Dark grand sounds like the real thing man it sounds like its in a really expensive hall I cannot believe it.
Can you layer instruments on top of each other? Like piano and strings
Combination. That's just program mode. Kronos has some super combinations too!!
Hey Jamal. What Keyboard would you recommend to a person that has been making beats and recording for a little over a year, but wants to expand his sound quality, and also wants to get into live music. What would be the best and most cost efficient next move? thanks
I have played the Korg Kronos, and yes, the keys are weighted, but not like an acoustic piano.
If you dont mind answering, from 1:45-1:49 and 11:06-11:09 are you doing circle of fifths or related majors or minors? What is that called and can you break it down or make a video about it?
@AUP68 ok cool havent heard that but it i will consider it before buying. Overall do you seem to be satisfied with it? Thanks

Don't know how similiar they are but I like the sounds on the KROME i've just purchased better...
glasscitadel12 Basically the same sound engine
If one had a choice between 2 keyboards, the Motif XS6 and the Kronos 6, which would you choose?
I've loved Yamaha my whole life and I'm sorry but if given the choice just by the first piano sound alone, I'd take the Kronos. And guys please remember that we are listening to this on youtube so the sound quality on the video and the sound quality in real life are going to be different. The one in real life will be better. Hey Jamal... Is there a way to sample the sounds from the Kronos to the Motif XF??
Yes there is a way, but it's illegal to do and sell.
Ouch... Ok. Thanks. By the way... I am truly grateful for what you do for us musicians. Love your style and your passion. I plan on getting your Jamal's Sounds flash for the XF, but I'll need help with installation. LoL
Steve Foster Installation is really easy...I outline everything in the documentation.
GospelMusicians How about from a Korg 01/w Pro to the Kronos?
It depends which model. The 73/88 note models have a hammer action which is close (but not the same as) a real piano - although arguably it is a better action than most of the pianos out there. HEY, J! are you going to do a Master Class? just asking
Toca Muito, Sonzeira! também sou Evangélico, Graças a Deus!
I'm into hearing the organ sounds
I thought you did a fine review man, and I LOVE me some smooth jazz baby!
So would you go for a Kronos?
I ama a Yamaha man too......and 20 years ago used alot of Roland
but never liked Korg....and also have you tested the Montage?
As a rompler keyboard... and for the money, kronos is a winner over montage... im a user of motif series and tried them all. Also i used roland boards too. The only advantage of montage is the synth sounds..
Espero haberte ayudado
melhor pra que jovem? qual o propósito?
A i was wondering could you do a review on the korg m50 vs the yamaha mox. Im on a budget and these workstations are crazy expensive.
are you crazy ?!? you call beautiful harmonies and melodies boring ?!?!?!?! you should be ashamed of yourself ! that guy is playing really great and he makes great review !!!
If you had an option between that korg and the motif xf, what would you take?
Did you change your Motif XF to Korg Kronos after all ?
@alderige1 alot of the stuff you want reviewed is pretty outdated on a hardware keyboard, however i do remember how I relied on them for so long before i got into my own recording setup. and sometimes i really do prefer to sequence w my triton...but i have sinced moved to my laptop for all my live needs which includes samples, sequence triggers and core sounds such as pianos, strings, organ etc...

Unfortunately my limit doesn't allow for the XF or the Kronos yet so I will proceed with the XS (a late present for me from someone else) and save up for the Kronos myself unless by the time I'm ready Korg has something even better, lol
@gospel musicians Any thoughts or opinions on the korg krome ?
Hey liked the KRONOS and I'm a fan of your demos and all the reviews you make.
Please play some BOLLYWOOD music .I wanna hear it from you.
7:39
So beautiful !
By the way, great playing!
Are these the exact same electric pianos as on the Kross61?
chriscauldermusic no.. but some of the sounds yes, but not all. And the output of the kronos is way great quality than the kross so that would make a difference when u plug it out to your mixer or PA amplifier..
I bet he can play any piano n stillll sounds good. But change the player to me, for example, definitely need the Kronos to 'beautifulling' the sound.
Since You've done a review for MOX6 could you do one for Korg Krome?
We all love yo Jamal :)
@alderige1 he's more about what the sounds are like. he gigs, plays at church etc.. which is more important to him. it would been nice to hear other keyboards beside it though.
This board is d best yes
@Krazie316
Kronos, no question about it.
What's better for trance? Kronos or XF8?
@bjornhelge97 Thanks :)
You guys should get together again!
have you ever tried out the m50? budget kind of low, and i want to see how it is.
How can you even tell through this recording? lol
Um sir I actually played on both. In fact, I own a Motif XF
Wayno Soze thought you were just talking about how this video sounded. do you know how the XF EPs sound compared to skarbye kontakt vintage keys?
I'd have to agree. IMO Korg's never gotten a "real" sounding Rhodes patch together. They're too dramatic, too much bell and bark, not enough of the in between. I thought they would've realized that with the sv1. Yes the pianos are lush and in your face but you need at least one good all around Rhodes patch.
I disagree completely. Starting with the OASYS, then the Vintage Piano, now the Kronos, nothing Yamaha made or currently makes can outperform the Korg in the Rhodes catetory. Korg engineers captured every aspect of Rhodes hammer action where the Yamaha's tend to leave the extreme ends of the scale un-modeled.
Korg is easily putting the best stuff out there these days. Give it a year or two, Yamaha will briefly leapfrog them, and then Korg will re-assert it's dominance once again with something even more amazing than the Kronos.
Anybody happen to know the polyphony on the Kronos?
Are the keys weighted???...
i want to know what you tell about the different keys the semi weight or weight keys of the 88 korg kronos , i dont know what switch people tell that weight keys of 88 keyboard are bad and problematic.
Thanks for all god bless you
10:49!!! Sick!
Korg Kronos is it😂😂😂😂😂😂 I’m going with the LS 88
Good
@GospelMusicians Jamal brother man... even Jesus had his haters.. what do you expect on a so called "real world" lol great review man.. and I'm also a Yamaha guy and I've been itching all over for this 61 keys.. lol but only to pair with my xf7... GOD BLESS and keep up the great work. u make the difference foshooo.. :)
@charlesshamwell I'll do the MKS patches for it. That's for sure. Inbox me your contact info and I'll get with you ASAP.
I like Nord
11:21 why you do that to me man?! lol
Why don't you buy one and do that stuff that wasn't in this video for all to see.
Getting goose pimples from the sound, and the playing.
COME ON @ 2:03!!!
@gospelmusicains
@Simbanyamfukudza01 KRONOS ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!
@9:02 "I like to hear the twats" ... What!?
The yamaha xf is better! Trust me. And when u decide to sell it, the Yamaha will sell faster. Sorry korg but yamaha still has u beat!
Na bruv
