I think Damp should have the same bonus effect as Overcoat where it makes you immune to powder moves. The whole idea behind Damp is that it prevents explosive moves from being used because you can't light wet gun POWDER. So just take that same logic to its natural conclusion.
I think giving a minor resistance to fire type moves and decreasing burn chance would be suitable. I also like the idea of abilities having more interactions with weather, terrain, and status conditions, so giving it a drawback of being more susceptible to electric moves and paralysis gives it an interesting drawback (type immunities notwithstanding)

Honestly damp would be better if it takes less damage from fire moves and being immune to burn. Explosion is used as a niche compared to earlier generations that it just catches you off guard
Or a 15% boost to Water type moves instead of the fire reduction. The only 2 Pokemon with Damp that don't resist fire already are Tadbulb and Bellibolt.
Base Samurott getting Shell Armor instead of Sharpness or Intimidade is INSANE, like just read its pokedex entries 😭 And then it doesn't even learn Shell Smash ☠️ I swear its like the balance team just wants to make SURE it stays bad cuz there's no way they unironically thought that was gonna help it...
The problem is its Hisuian Form (an already good mon) would also get it if they give Samurott shell smash since both forms have nearly identical movesets. I think giving it Anger Shell is the best way to directly buff Samurott w/o affecting its Ancient counterpart
shell smash is lame af. I saw someone say it should get no retreat and imo thats way more interesting. Totally agree with sharpness tho, it just feels like they forgot to give it to samurott
I find it funny that giving Durant TRUANT ended up legitimately useful in niche cases, moreso than what they actually ended up giving to poor Meganium.
16:01 Vespiquen is actually indirectly the most impactful pokemon in ND Hackmons because Heal Order is the only 1 turn healing move with 16 pp so people dont have to use ass strength sap anymore. Part of the reason that ND Hackmons was way more popular than SV Hackmons when they were ran at the same time was because we could actually use real healing moves so team building wasn't so constricted.
Unovian Sammurot getting shell armor was the biggest robbery that happened in broad daylight. Compared to what the other 2 starters got Sammurot could have gotten adaptability or even regenorator to make the playing field even.
@Blackheartgamer1 my logic was that since it is based on a warrior, he would adapt to his surroundings, thus adaptability (protean or libero is probably better come to think of it). Regenerators' idea is that he heals off the damage that he took in battle and comes back out to fight again. So basically, from a warriors perspective.
Durant using entrainment to copy truant onto an opposing pokemon is actually one of the best singles strategies in the post-game battle subway/maison/tree in generations 5-7, because the AI will seldom switch out even after getting the ability truant, so after doing that you can switch into something like dragon dance/shell smash + protect + substitute Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, Cloyster, etc to sweep your opponent's team with no trouble. It may have no use in actual battles with real people, but vs the in-game AI, it's not too shabby.
I would like to mention 2 pokémon: Cute Charm Milotic and and Moxie Pyroar. Cute Charm is okey-ish and fits Milotic's lore, but very rng dependent. Pyroar's base 68 Atk (lower than Sunflora's base atk) is very weak even after moxie boosts, Pyroar is ment to be a special attacker anyway.
Yeah, instead they get done dirty in basically every way even though in my opinion I don’t hate their designs despite that being one of the ways they were done dirty in.
Cursed Body would make a decent ability for Noir family. It's a slow bulky mon so it can use some utility. Or a new ability called Soul Sap allowing it to drain the target's HP with each contact move. Noir is the Reaper pokemon, give it some soul or HP based stuff
Just want to note that Illuminate got massively buffed with the SV DLC. It now blocks lowering accuracy effects (by stat stages) and can ignore evasion increases. With this has no use in smogon formats since evasion moves are banned and accuracy lowering moves are extremely rare, it is a semidecent ability for a more offensive Pokemon like Starmie.
I thought Durant having truant was because it's their Dream to be lazy but they can't because the colony. I think that's the original goal of "dream abilities".
Honestly somewhat agree and disagree with Articuno here. Snow Cloak and Sand Veil are busted and uncompetitive abilities and is by far the best of Static/Flamebody. Its also why Articuno was chosen over other special attacking Ice types for that VGC strategy. VGC players could have picked Pokemon like Lapras or Iron Bundle for a similar strategy, but picked Articuno because evasion is busted. But at the same time, because Snow Cloak is busted it’s banned, which means its technically useless on Articuno. Also evasion is degenerate and hopefully Articuno gets something like Frostbite Flamebody but with Special Attacks.
Legalize snow cloak and sand veil and lets see what their win rate is, or I should say their usage rate, because no player on high ladder will touch those abilities, because at the end of the day, they are not good. If you legalized light clay, it's usage rate would also be zero. Yes, all of these things are uncompetitive, in the same way that my middle school soccer team would be uncompetitive at the world cup.
Dude I feel so bad for Swampert. Sceptile getting Unburden is great because you can synergize that with Fake Out Normal Gem, or do what Drayton did and have Weakness Policy into Acrobatics; Both very interesting ideas. Blaziken getting Speed Boost, which crack-shot it into Ubers for Gens 5-6, maybe 7 (I think, I lost track) and even surpassing its Mega Evolution in a few categories thanks to wielding held items. And then Swampert just gets Damp; In a Gen where Selfdestruct and Explosion got nerfed in the same game it was added. This was the prime Bulky Water of Gen 3 OU, now he’s fighting for his life in NU of all places. Though I suppose one member of the trio has to take a fatal blow with the weakest ability, doesn’t explain why Greninja or Cinderace are good aside from taking less than a braincell to use.
the worst instances of bad abilities are the ones that make thematic sense. swampert is indeed damp but that ability is garbadge. just like samurott and shell armor, a defensive ability on an offensive mon
I think Durant gets Truant because in an anthill 20% of ants are always asleep or something, so the Truant Durants are meant to resemble this small portion that is resting
I think Aftermath is fitting for Vespiquen since bees will go chaotic after losing a queen. Articuno in snow is a beast in certain regulations in gen 9. Terra to remove flying weaknesses and bolster blizzard, added defense from snow, and u have a tricky mon. Glaceon is similar as well, being decently tanky with assault vest sets
I think a good ability they could give dialga would effectively be power herb the ability. except it activates more than once and also works on ally pokemon. palkia setting up gravity would be less op, but I think a one way no guard like ability with a mold-breaker effect could be good
Still waiting for the Arcanine remake but pleasantly surprised to see more videos like this. They are one of my favorite types since they explore things that aren't always talked about.
Hydration makes sense for Swampert a bit more than Stamina, making it harder to get status to stick on it and giving it something t0 seperate it from the other Water/Grounds
@walaceandrade4046 Mega Swampert's intended game plan is a fast physical rain sweeper. Will o Wisp ruins that. Hydration allows Swampert to switch in on status without worry and it can stall its mega evolution if the player predicts the opponent going for a burn.
@@PhazonSpear its a nice use of a pre-mega abilty, gotta give you that... But in a world where mega evos are no longer a thing in competitive... Base Swampert deserves an ability that allows him to shine on its own.
That was just unnecessarily cruel of Game Freak, giving Swampert the anti-Explosion ability _at the same time_ they nerfed Explosion into the dirt. Also, I want to point out that Truant has been legitimately useful on Durant in the in-game battle facilities, alongside Entrainment. Granted, that's just bullying the game's dumb-as-bricks AI, but enabling Moody sweeps left and right is pretty dastardly on its own.

Hate to be that guy but I will be. Damp Swampert was a good anti lead option into lead Lando with explosion. They would get no momentum off the explosion.
So Articuno is actually my favorite pokemon and I have thought long an hard about what would make it viable. And the best ability I can think of is Magic Guard. Its already a very mystical pokemon and this would remove its stealth rock weakness and allow for recoil-less life orb damage, making it about as strong as the other two birds should it choose. It wouldn't become amazing given it's other issues, but certainly viable in the higher tiers with this one change.
Same, he's been my top favorite since Red version. I would say giving him Snow Warning and adding Aurora Veil to his move pool would greatly improve him, in singles and doubles format. Mind Reader + Sheer Cold was a fun gimmick against enemy ai, but got boring fast. Articuno could also use some fiddling with his stats. Take some points from attack and put it towards hp, def, spa or something

I’m hoping that GameFreak will give a new hidden ability to Swampert much like how they change Empoleon’s Defiant ability to Competitive. Plus there are a ton of abilities that fit Swampert very well like Drizzle, Water Absorb, Storm Drain, Hydration, or etc. I wouldn’t give him Sap Sipper since taking away a weakness for a starter only weakness feels a little unfair.
Also Torterra deserves a new hidden ability, cause, why Shell Armor of all things? Critical hits aren't frequent. Infernape got Iron Fist, Empoleon, as you said, now has Competitive, hope Torterra can get a new good hidden ability like Chorophyil or Thick Fat.
I would just make it a semi- kalos aura abilities clone. 30% power boost to water type attacks while active. The list of damp users are either pretty weak anyhow or have other abilites that are still better (like politoed) so i dont see what would be wrong with this.
Dialga, Palkia and Giritina are my favorite legends and it always suck to see how limited they are because of their abilities. I love the idea of trick room and gravity seeing more use under their belt and it would be a crazy cool addition to the flexibility of ubers.
Articuno: Magic Guard. Snow Warning. Magic Bounce. Serene Grace. Dialga: Kinda helped by Telepathy because friendly Earthquakes hurt and I guess not risking a Lava Plume burn or Discharge parz helps too, but it's useless in single formats. If I had to make a suggestion though, Regenerator. Palkia: No Guard. Swampert: Sheer Force. Guts. Rain Dish. Sand Rush. Durant: Heatproof. It could have explained it as adapting to Heatmor by growing metalic armor, which Heatmor pressumably adapted to in turn by becoming Fire type, and it becoming a heat resistant alloy exoskeleton in response. Dusknoir: Perish Body. Cursed Body. Shadow Tag. Tyranitar: Stamina. Stakeout. Solid Rock. Rock Head. Sand Rush. Vespiquen is just bad. I can't think of any reasonable ability that would meaningfully save it.
An idea for some of these abilities or some new ones: To buff Damp, have it work like Water Bubble, preventing burns and/or halving fire damage For Dialga, have an ability that can set up either Trick/Wonder/Magic Room for 5 turns, but if it’s a mix of all of them, 3-4 turns. Palkia, have an ability to set up Gravity and removes terrain sets and hazards, prevents new terrains/hazards for 3-4 turns. For Vespiquen, a mix of Queenly Majesty and Solid Rock, call it Queen’s Presence.
I have always wanted a swampert or other water/ground type with sap sipper as a HA. And given how the last couple gens have been with power creep, it wouldn't even be OP at this point.
Hear me out: Swampert with Regenerator. Its design is a mix of a Mud Skipper and Axolotl, and Axolotls are known for their ability to _regenerate_ body parts, it just makes sense And Swampert already Flip Turn and Stealth Rock, so it can be used to set up for its team, swap out, and come back in Biased, but I love my boy, give him the world
Me and my friend would play gen 4 Hackmons together and when I tell you intimidate recover dusknoir is a menace, paired with something that sets up hazards and can act as a really bulky spin blocker, it really doesn’t need a lot to be incredible.
Here's an idea. Create an ability unique to Dusknoir and H-Typhlosion called reaper. Let it heal 30% hp any time an opponent faints, even when out of play. It's good for Noir because it aids sustainability, and it's good for Phlosion because it reloads the power of eruption.
A ability that summons Trick Room would be amazing. I one time made a fan made Pokémon that was just a knockoff of the Super Mario Galaxy boss Bouldergeist that hade a rock and ghost typing with 2 abilities to either summon trick room or set up stealth rock.
12:40 Because it's meant to be a disruptor. Dare I say, few hidden abilities would be better for it than perhaps Klutz to shut down 'mons who rely on their items and, in later gens, Well-Baked Body for increased defensive utility. You haven't seen evil until you've seen Entrainment Truant Durant in doubles.
Personally, I've always thought the Legendary Bird trio should have all gotten weather setting abilities in reference to their roles in the second movie where they were basically doing the whole Groudon/Kyogre rivalry thing before those Pokémon even existed. Likewise, with Lugia getting Air Lock to mimic its role of putting an end to the fight.
Legends Z-A just needs to add "lost abilities" as an alternative to regular or hidden abilities that are teachable by a vendor if a requirement is met, and everyone would be stoked. Take any old pokemon you have and give it it's lost ability so it's competitive? Let's go!! Plus things like Flygon getting sand stream could be a reality.
OBJECTION! swampert's damp was actually very good in the gen 8 OU meta as a defensive piece to either get up rocks, yawn or easily get momentum due to the existence of regieleki in the tier, swampert is the only mon that could 100% stop regieleki from getting ANY sort of momentum for its team, blocking both volt switch and explosion. Due to its very good movepool consisting of stealth rocks, yawn and most importantly flip turn, swampert could either force a yawn mind game, get up rocks for free or get 100% momentum for its own team instead! (also toxic and roar were options for swampert but no as popular)
Giving Articuno Snow Warning reminds me of the time that for fun, I thought of new Abilities to replace Pressure as well as new signature moves for the Kantonian Birds. For Articuno, I came up with Snow Warning for the Ability and for the move, Wintry Cloak. It'd be a healing move just like Cresselia's Lunar Blessing, except if used in Snow, the healing is 50% for it (and its partner if also an Ice-Type) and even buffs both its defensive stats by one stage each. The fact that I have to give a healing move that removes status effects and can boost both defenses should be testament to how unfortunate Articuno is lmao. If you're curious about Zapdos and Moltres, I gave them more offensive moves/abilities and I'll specify if any of you ask.
Swampert and it's Damp-abiility is easily one of if not the biggest dud of a hidden ability amongst starters, if only he could at least have Mega Swampert's Swift Swim as the hidden ability things would be way different - perhaps another solid ability for Swampert could be like a healing ability like *_Water Absorb / Earth Eater / Regenerator_*
one thing i've thought about for a dialga signature ability is something called Timeless Steel, which would give it resistances to dark and ghost. warping the timestream to pre-gen 6! no idea what to give palkia, though.
Since we covered Swampert, I was wondering if we could also cover Sceptile alongside. I believe that Technician over the pointless Unburden would be a great Ability to give it or something that could be even better could work as well.
I thought it was cool when doing the tera raids for Dialga and Palkia automatically set up trick room and gravity, respectively. That would make them great. I also think Zekrom and Reshiram could have an ability to help them compete too.
I think Dialga activating Trick Room would be way more busted in doubles than any recent powerhouse legendary. The move trick room is -7 priority for a reason. Being able to activate Trick Room at the start of the turn with no way to stop it would be insane.
Tyranitar's Sand Stream is fine🦖. I just think Parting Shot for pivoting would be nice. From there you could savely bring in Excadrill and friends for damage. On that note you should rather buff Excadrill by giving it Ice Spinner or something interesting like Gravity.
If they really want to buff Swampert, give it Regenerator (one of its inspirations is the Axolotl, which demonstrates regeneration). Just imagine the nightmare of Regenerator Flip Turn Swampert with Boots and Stealth Rock in Singles or Goggles and Helping Hand/Bulldoze/Wide Guard in VGC.
Honorable mention goes to Azumarill and his dream world ability Sap Sipper. I want one good reason as to why one would realistically run Sap Sipper over Huge Power on Azumarill

Honestly damp would be better if it takes less damage from fire moves and being immune to burn.
Explosion is used as a niche compared to earlier generations that it just catches you off guard
Damp should automatically cast attract.
Or a 15% boost to Water type moves instead of the fire reduction. The only 2 Pokemon with Damp that don't resist fire already are Tadbulb and Bellibolt.
Damp should come with a shotgun equipped for swampert

Base Samurott getting Shell Armor instead of Sharpness or Intimidade is INSANE, like just read its pokedex entries 😭
And then it doesn't even learn Shell Smash ☠️
I swear its like the balance team just wants to make SURE it stays bad cuz there's no way they unironically thought that was gonna help it...
Yeah it really should’ve gotten a HA update in Gen 9. Empoleon got it’s changed from Defiant to Competitive so there’s precedent for it too
The problem is its Hisuian Form (an already good mon) would also get it if they give Samurott shell smash since both forms have nearly identical movesets.
Forigve me, but what doe ND stand for? Thinking purely of the main games, I can't think of any that shorten down to ND

You know BKC had the biggest smirk on his face when writing that line.
Swampert getting Damp one generation too late is just Game Freak trolling.
Unovian Sammurot getting shell armor was the biggest robbery that happened in broad daylight. Compared to what the other 2 starters got Sammurot could have gotten adaptability or even regenorator to make the playing field even.
Getting regenerator makes no sense… as for adaptability it works best for dual typing Pokémon. weak armor, sharpness, defiant would be interesting
@@Blackheartgamer1 As well Shell Armor. Also makes no sense cause he's not a turtle.
@@abraham-kun4144 ? Turtles aren’t the only creatures with shells. 🐚 also it’s armor is a sea shell.
@@abraham-kun4144but it has a shell even though it’s not a turtle
I was hoping Origin Dialga and Palkia would get new abilities when they were introduced in a main series game….I was wrong
Yeah, instead they get done dirty in basically every way even though in my opinion I don’t hate their designs despite that being one of the ways they were done dirty in.
Articuno has always been my favorite Pokémon. Ice Scales or Snow Warning would be beautiful

"a legendary bird beating up not fully evolved Pokemon" describes every pokemon game ever played
If you think damp swampert is bad, get ready for damp jellicent who is already inmune to explosion and selfdestruct
the worst instances of bad abilities are the ones that make thematic sense. swampert is indeed damp but that ability is garbadge. just like samurott and shell armor, a defensive ability on an offensive mon
Poor Regigigas who is so tied to Slow Start that it even got it in Legends Arceus, the game without abilities 🥲
I think Durant gets Truant because in an anthill 20% of ants are always asleep or something, so the Truant Durants are meant to resemble this small portion that is resting
Because it's a True Ant
I think Aftermath is fitting for Vespiquen since bees will go chaotic after losing a queen.
Articuno in snow is a beast in certain regulations in gen 9. Terra to remove flying weaknesses and bolster blizzard, added defense from snow, and u have a tricky mon. Glaceon is similar as well, being decently tanky with assault vest sets
I think a good ability they could give dialga would effectively be power herb the ability. except it activates more than once and also works on ally pokemon. palkia setting up gravity would be less op, but I think a one way no guard like ability with a mold-breaker effect could be good
You should consider making videos recapping the entire OU history of a gen. How it evolved and changed?
That would probably take WAY too long
Also, ou of previoys generations are still evolving (Thry made a video on it, it has moltres in the thumbnail)
8 hours of competitive history to go to sleep to
Still waiting for the Arcanine remake but pleasantly surprised to see more videos like this. They are one of my favorite types since they explore things that aren't always talked about.

A decent use for Telepathy.
I love how almost every single Durant is named Kevin LMFAOOOOO
Hydration makes sense for Swampert a bit more than Stamina, making it harder to get status to stick on it and giving it something t0 seperate it from the other Water/Grounds
Hydration is a nothing-ability just as much as damp
Give it regenerator
Hydration is bad tho
@walaceandrade4046 Mega Swampert's intended game plan is a fast physical rain sweeper. Will o Wisp ruins that. Hydration allows Swampert to switch in on status without worry and it can stall its mega evolution if the player predicts the opponent going for a burn.
@@PhazonSpear its a nice use of a pre-mega abilty, gotta give you that... But in a world where mega evos are no longer a thing in competitive... Base Swampert deserves an ability that allows him to shine on its own.
What a beautifully cursed yassified Vespiquen!

Truant + Entrainment durant was amazing at cheezing the battle subway back in the day lol. give ur opponent truant, then switch into something with protect + a setup move... and then sweep... usually dragon dance dragonite w/ multiscale..
Perhaps the next theorem video could be why move sets (like mix attacking, fast physical, bulky special, etc) are close to everything or the Dragonite theorem

If swampert had anticipation instead of damp, the energy ball event never would have occurred...

Forgot Jellicent? With both of those things?
@@lipika2841 O yea lol
If a Damp pokemon is on the field, Ground-types lose their electric immunity. Like how Pikachu hurt Onix by making sprinklers rain on it first.
Damp was made for water types mostly how would this help water type Pokemon there's like only one electric type that gets it?
that change would make more sense to add to water sport
Lol that's stupid on ground type pokemon. Swampert would go from electric immune to electric weak.....
I would just make it a semi- kalos aura abilities clone. 30% power boost to water type attacks while active. The list of damp users are either pretty weak anyhow or have other abilites that are still better (like politoed) so i dont see what would be wrong with this.
Wouldn't that make Swampert weak to Electric?
Dialga, Palkia and Giritina are my favorite legends and it always suck to see how limited they are because of their abilities. I love the idea of trick room and gravity seeing more use under their belt and it would be a crazy cool addition to the flexibility of ubers.
I always wanted tyranitar to have sturdy. Its the evolution of pupitar
Swampert exclaims regenerator as a HA tbh
throwback to when articuno was ubers in BDSP because it couldn't get pressure and snow cloak was banned
Regenerator or Sap Sipper for Swampert would be perfect, one for longevity and the other for offensiveness
Sap sipper would be too broken. It would remove his only natural weakness
Sap sipper is just a fan wish that doesn't make thematic sense. Besides, they aren't gonna make a starter immune to the other starter that beats it.

"Rattatas are just unreliable as cronies : either they fight until faint or just flee at first loss"
Meownie, unfortunate first boss in a PMD game.
Articuno: Magic Guard. Snow Warning. Magic Bounce. Serene Grace.
Dialga: Kinda helped by Telepathy because friendly Earthquakes hurt and I guess not risking a Lava Plume burn or Discharge parz helps too, but it's useless in single formats. If I had to make a suggestion though, Regenerator.
Palkia: No Guard.
Swampert: Sheer Force. Guts. Rain Dish. Sand Rush.
Durant: Heatproof. It could have explained it as adapting to Heatmor by growing metalic armor, which Heatmor pressumably adapted to in turn by becoming Fire type, and it becoming a heat resistant alloy exoskeleton in response.
Dusknoir: Perish Body. Cursed Body. Shadow Tag.
Tyranitar: Stamina. Stakeout. Solid Rock. Rock Head. Sand Rush.
Vespiquen is just bad. I can't think of any reasonable ability that would meaningfully save it.
An idea for some of these abilities or some new ones:
To buff Damp, have it work like Water Bubble, preventing burns and/or halving fire damage
For Dialga, have an ability that can set up either Trick/Wonder/Magic Room for 5 turns, but if it’s a mix of all of them, 3-4 turns.
Makes no sense thematically on swampert but I want to see a new water/ground type have it.
Hear me out: Swampert with Regenerator. Its design is a mix of a Mud Skipper and Axolotl, and Axolotls are known for their ability to _regenerate_ body parts, it just makes sense
And Swampert already Flip Turn and Stealth Rock, so it can be used to set up for its team, swap out, and come back in
Biased, but I love my boy, give him the world
If we making up abilities, do a freeze version of flame body/static for 'uno. Make it numero uno
awful idea
Swampert lost his boltund and started chasing the bag
I would once again like to mention Run Away Venonat as one that definitely didn't help.
one thing i've thought about for a dialga signature ability is something called Timeless Steel, which would give it resistances to dark and ghost. warping the timestream to pre-gen 6!
no idea what to give palkia, though.
Since we covered Swampert, I was wondering if we could also cover Sceptile alongside. I believe that Technician over the pointless Unburden would be a great Ability to give it or something that could be even better could work as well.
THANK YOU FOR BRINGING UP SWAMPERT!
I've been wishing for so long now for them to change damp to something else cus it does nothing for it😭
I always thought of an ability that fits t-tars pokedex entry on how his body cannot be scratched like solid rock or clear body
obsessed with miss vespiquen
I thought it was cool when doing the tera raids for Dialga and Palkia automatically set up trick room and gravity, respectively. That would make them great.
I also think Zekrom and Reshiram could have an ability to help them compete too.
Best tool Articuno ever got was changing its type via tera. As an ability snow warning would be great to buff it for future gens
That Vespiqueen segment is... Something 😂
I think Dialga activating Trick Room would be way more busted in doubles than any recent powerhouse legendary. The move trick room is -7 priority for a reason. Being able to activate Trick Room at the start of the turn with no way to stop it would be insane.
Love that he’s trying to be hip with the kids
