- After a number of deadly impaired driving crashes in York Region, a municipality in southern Ontario, police are cracking down on what has become a growing problem on the roads.
Global News spent two days with the team in traffic services. Caryn Lieberman reports.

I'm pretty sure that alcoholic impaired driving is not the only substance of issue here. Enough slaps on the wrist for those who take the risk either knowingly and/or carelessly.
Slap on the wrist, you obviously dont know the penalties and insurance cost.
@@calbeebbqbbq you clearly don't yourself and would understand if you have ever been pulled over or witnessed others being pulled over. Police job is to educate and enforce laws. If the officer doesn't and instead gives the driver a break with a warning, the driver will simply be prone to break the rules again and again, risking not only themselves but others' lives in the process. Too many times, people have simply been driving distracted via under the influence of THC, Alcohol or other narcotics, etc. not to mention improper use of electronic devices as well and have NOT been given a ticket/ points deducted from their Drivers license. Insurance is a must have to protect you from law suits, vehicle damage covers and much more but however it doesn't really punish you that much from breaking the road laws severely, that's the police job and the ticketing system to let you know how dumb you have been at that time. Maybe you'll learn from set mistakes or maybe not, but the ticket and points system is there for a reason. If its not going to be educated and enforced by our police to the pulbic, then people will simply do what they want without penalty.

I had the opportunity to hear a story from a first responder to a drunk driver accident. His voice trembled describing the events some 30+ years later, he left out parts he said that not for repeating. The effect in this man was profound, and I could not imagine being the one that caused that and having to live with it having seen the effect on this man for just coming upon it within minutes of the collision.
I can tell you I remember it for many years and I would never ever consider having my day end like this because of my choice. It is not the punishment in jail or loosing the car I think of when I give my keys to a friend, it's this story.
Have you being drinking? Yes, please proceed and drive carefully. This is no better than the Drug Crisis.

increase the fines and punishment , slap on the wrist people wont change , crush their cars when caught , then you wont have people drinking and driving
