RIP Dooley. You were a beloved and respected hero. I’m a retired police officer. Lost my K9 partner when he was hit by a car. Not only didn’t my dept recognize his passing, I carried him home and buried him in my backyard. This was a beautiful goodbye to a respected member of his dept. Artos, you are still missed every day by me. I’m sorry you didn’t get the goodbye you deserved.
Wow this is appalling. I thought k9s are considered police officers. What a shame and disgrace by your department. I’m so sorry you were alone dealing with the loss and the disrespect. Now I’m crying even more… 😢❤ 🐕
@@CheapsKate77 This happened many years ago. So I’m almost able to talk about what the dept did and didn’t do. We had a new chief, who had stated publicly that he didn’t believe women made good officers. He was shocked that a female officer was a K9 handler. I believe his total lack of recognition to my partner’s death was going to lead to me to resign. Which I did. When I see depts giving retired and deceased K9s these hero send offs it makes me proud that I was one, and had the best partner too.
@bevalexander5897 You proved your worth otherwise you couldn't have become a proud K9 officer's handler! It sounds like we went through the same era of mysogynism where we had to work harder than everyone else in order to prove ourselves, and I'm so glad that you got to achieve your dream job. I'm so sorry that you and your partner were declined the honour you had worked so hard to achieve. It's difficult enough when a pet is pts, but to lose a working partner who was loyal and brave to the core and be disrespected in their final farewell like this is absolutely heartbreaking and abhorrent. Please know that my heart and respect are with you for all that you have done and achieved. Much love from Australia 💔🐕🐾🐾🌈❤️🇦🇺
😢😢😢OMG, my tears are pouring down my cheeks, I feel so incredibly TERRIBLE for all involved, especially your HANDLER,. God, sooooo sorry and so sad. Thank you both for your incredible dedication and all those years and successful deployments out into the community. God bless, may you be pain free and happy and at peace in K9 heaven...
RIP K9 Dooley. I cried like a baby watching this. He crossed over the rainbow 🌈 bridge with dignity and respect. I know he will never be forgotten by the ones he served with.😢😢🇺🇸🇺🇸
When you love them enough to not want them to suffer in pain. If you didn't cry, you don't have a heart or have never loved a dog. It is always heart wrenching to have to make that decision that it is time for rest.
I had to put a dog down that I loved very much. It was a surprise when the vet showed me the X-ray showing that her lungs were filled with cancer. She had not shown any symptoms of being in pain or short of breath. My first reaction was to put her down so she wouldn’t suffer any more. After the fact I realized that saying goodbye would be better for both of us if I had taken her home over night and given her all the things she loved to eat or play with one of her favorite things was to sleep on my bed. I didn’t think of that as the best thing I could do for her. I still have a huge amount of regret that I didn’t do a better job of saying goodbye. I was with her all the time during the process of putting her down but that wasn’t enough.
@@bettyboop3353 Saying goodbye to our pets isn’t ever easy, especially when we’re not given any warning of our sick our pups really are. Don’t kick yourself, please. Your doggo felt love, kindness, and safety. You gave him everything.
I’ve also seen this before and I’m crying again. Such kindness and respect, well deserved. Every dog I’ve lost in my 78 years feels the same, always. I miss them all, and look to seeing them once again.🌈❤️🐕
So glad that they treated him as an equal. No we don't know why he was put down, but sometimes the ailments are not very visible. I am sure they would have simply retired him if he wasn't ill and suffering.
I think his hips were too painful for him. It happens in older German shepherds. They will continue to obey you no matter what as mine did till the end.
@@anglophils645 they need to be done when the dog is younger. My German shepherd had a so called hip guarantee but his hips were so bad when we had to let him Go. He was too old for surgery by the time it really showed up. Acupuncture helped for a while, but he could no longer stand without help and lost control of his pooping.
