I broke my arm when I was 7 or 8. My grandpa bought me Hotrod and brought it to the hospital. Wish I had all my original toys.
Hotrod is my favorite Autobot.... from the beginning. I don’t have a lot of Transformers but a nice set of Hotrods.
Love that movie. Thank you.
Thanks Phil!
He’s a great addition to your 1986 auto bot family. Yes to all are one !!!
I LOVE KUP … so underrated… I’m glad FANSTOYS gave him the respect to make a proper mold
That squeek when you removed hot rod from the styrofoam reminds me of the Christmas I got ultra Magnus and removed him from the box. Ahhh, Good times...
HOODLUM: An official member of the TRANSMORFERS! =)
I've had him since release and I love him for display purposes. Transformed him once (as I do with all my mp's) and had little to no issues with him. The thing with fanstoys is that the transformations are quite involved but it doesn't bother me at all. They put out (when they do..) really pretty figures. Thanks for the review!
I will definitely have to pick up FT's Hoodlum. A good rendition of G1 Hot Rod, Michael.
Sweet to give some love to g1 hot rod and to see it with its targetmaster. That Rodimus mp was pretty impressive aswell, also love the end results on the shelf rodimus in back with hotrod in front with the matrix!!!
I haven't been into collecting Transformers since Armada but I always like checking out what they're doing with my favorite characters. I remember Robots in DIsguise Side Burn as being a pretty traumatic TF to transform. This guy looks so cool but it makes a case for highly detailed non-transformable TFs.
i've read people complain about his alt mode, that the Takara MP is better. To me it depends. FT clearly went for an homage to the toy while Takara went closer to the movie. Bot wise, FT is the better one IMO which is why i decided to get him instead of a KO of the MP28 which would've been a 1/3 of the price. True his articulation is limited but how many are really going to change up his pose that often that you're going to have him in anything but a cool standing pose 90% of the time or the matrix holding pose?
You can cheat to get better articulation. To get better upwards shoulder range just hide the orange shoulder covers. As for the upwards head movement, the popular mod right now is to shave material from the bottom of the back of the helmet.
That was a great first shot sticker installment and I'd like that it looks a little raised it gives the symbol texture
your childhood hero was optimus for what he stood for mine was rodimus for what he represented. coping with the inner demons of having to grow up and take reasonability. I relate to that so much and there for rodimus is one of if not my favorite autobot.
That's the great thing about many 80s toylines. There's a character for everyone.
@@MichaelMercy funny thing is I was born in 2000 I just had the privilege to grow up with older toys and shows.
This is one of my favorite figures in my masterpiece collection. I would love for fanstoys to repaint this in his shattered glass colors I would buy that version as well
Hey man, thanks for making this in-depth review of "Hoodlum". I already have the figure, but I learned so much about it by watching your video. (For example, I had no idea that the legs extended that fraction to make the figure a bit taller and, believe me, just learning that alone, makes an already awesome figure even better.) Any negatives aside, this is such an awesome representation of Hot Rod and if anyone is on the fence about the figure, I highly recommend it, as well. ;)
Keep up the great work, man! I'm always entertained by your videos! ^_^
Like you i love Hot Rod and the movie to ! I have the Masterpiece version ,the g1 ,the energon and clasic in my colection!
Good version of hot rod but that transformation looks way too fiddly and fragile, chances are I would break this! I will stick with my masterpiece hot rod, great review always clear and informative! 👍
Hoodlum comes with his own pizza cutter 😄
I've actually been thinking of getting this Hot Rod, but I've also been looking at MTRM-11 Meteor (Starscream)
Great job with the sticker!
excellent video.
I still like MP Hot Rod, this transformation is crazy, but Fan's Toys always are
Awesome channel with amazing content!
Been collecting 3rd party mp since the 1st one. Lick the emblem like an old stamp. Sounds weird but it will allow you to get the repro perfect. Once dry it stays on just as well. Hope that helps & great channel dude
Thanks for the tip!
I really wish someone would bring back the visor gimmick from the 1st mp hot rod with the spinning ears.
This transformation was a nightmare.
I knew the shoulders looked off to me, now I know why, because you can have Hot Rod gain the touch
I like how the masterpiece hot rod in the back is like notice me
Poor guy. He's self conscious because of his scuffed chrome.
Haha
I’m kinda late in the game for MP scale transformers and I realized Fanstoys is generally the best. I have the official MP Hot Rod target master but I don’t like how he scales with MP Ultra Magnus. Trying to find Hoodlum now.
I agree MP Hot Rod's a bit undersized. Good luck with the Hoodlum hunt. 👍
i called him worse than that! .. still blame hotrod for primes death lol nice reviews michael dude :)
Excellent tutorial/review. Looks like it displays well, nice looking bot and alt mode for sure. I agree with you- the thing that tends to turn me off about the 3rd party TFs is the overly fiddly transformations. Clearly meant to be display pieces. Curious- it sounds kind of hollow (kind of like a model kit) when you’re moving the parts around- is that an accurate impression?
Thanks! He feels pretty solid and sturdy. It's just that it's a different type of plastic. Almost like everything is coated in nail polish so it doesn't slide smoothly.
Great video. I enjoy all your transformers videos. Do you have any Worlds Smallest Transformers in your collection?
Don't worry, they'll reciprocate.
Awesomeness! 👏🏻💯!
Thanks!
Now that's really Hot Rod.
You are the best
Thanks! Nerdmasté! 🙏
Hey Michael I'm trying to find a masterpiece styled Jazz. Which do you prefer?
For robot mode, I like Maketoys Downbeat. For car mode, I like ToyWorld Coolsville.
@@MichaelMercy Thank you so much! I've been freaking out over which one to get. Thank you so much!
Car mode via Hova (just got) is excellent. Good weight to. But downbeat is best looking bot mode.
Dude you have super nice voice your voice never get me bored
LMAO Spartan Kick
One of the most difficult figs to transform lol
waiting for new fanatoys !
Where did you get the open MATRIX
Can’t wait till we get a better Rodimus. Dx9 to me is status for now, tho small. Update: I can wait, never in a hurry to spend this kind of money 🙃.
Great review and great figure , thanks Michael mercy , till all are one 😊
Thanks Anthimos! 'Till all are one!
Needed the trailer though to be great
Wait a second, isn't there an official masterpiece Hotrod? I thought Fanstoys did Rodimus Prime, not Hotrod... Eh, still looks nice.
Be careful rotating the collar piece. It can scratch. It is recommended that you rotate it with the piece flat. Not at a right angle.
Amazing video!!!
Thanks Campbell!
@@MichaelMercy Your welcome
Dare to be stupid
Yeeeeaaah
Oh damn... MP-28 looks like Maggie Simpson...
I was surprised hot rod survived and why does ironhide always die
he had no energon on his mission from Optimus. Brawn was a favorite of mine, he was stronger than most Autobots although he is small compared to other Autobots.
He look cool but too bad i don't have money to buy him
Mr.Mercy what did u think about the new bumblebee movie?
I thought it was pretty fun, better than most of the other Bay movies.
Yeah it's way better than the bay films.
1:03:42
He looks good but not as stunning as Tracks
'I knew you had potential, lad!' (Cue classic '80s anthem rock, as performed by Hot Rod himself in his Cybertronic Spree mode at ruclips.net/video/SpY4na_ofxs/видео.html, ruclips.net/video/wGS1ETFT_1I/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/hlaoJIL6sDg/видео.html).
As much as I love Optimus Prime, Hot Rod - not Rodimus so much, perhaps, but never mind - has always been MY guy (even if I feel more and more like Kup these days...!!!); in fact, I've been debating whether or not to get a Masterpiece-style figure of him for ages now, and this video definitely gives plenty of food for thought...the Fans Toys one certainly looks better, like you say, especially in robot mode; but is the official one any less fiddly to transform in your view? Also, and I hope you don't mind me asking, is that Fans Toys Masterpiece-style version of Kup any good in turn? (Of course, if anyone ever makes a proper Death's Head figure, then we're definitely in business, yes?).
Anyway, I'm sure I've mentioned this before in relation to some of your previous videos, but I vividly remember seeing Hot Rod transform for the first time in the movie, and thinking 'I want that car!!!'; and I still do...in fact, he's my personal coolest vehicle of the whole '80s, bar none!!! (Narrowly beating out the likes of Battle Cat - granted, he's not really a vehicle per se, but he's also far too cool not to put on this list, yes?! - Ecto-One, the Thundertank, the Turtles Party Wagon, Kitt, and the A-Team Van, but that's by the by, yes?). My Mam agreed with me too, as when we left the cinema having watched 'Transformers: The Movie' back in the day, she said 'I liked that Hot Rod' and I, in my infinite-8-year-old's-wisdom, sagely replied 'You're supposed to...!'
PS: Will we be getting a 'History of the Transformers: 1985' video from you any time soon, please?
🙂👍🏿📽
🙂
Cool review! But this is Worst Fanstoys figure, they should of taken the time they had and retool it , the official Mp kills it in almost every department..
Hes a good looking statue thats about it articulation is beyond limited very disappointing figure 😕 from Fanstoys and im a Fanstoys fanboy but they dropped the ball big time with this, I 🤣 when I 👀 him on eBay and other sites for over $250 and say 2 myself if u think I'm gonna pay $250+ for a masterpiece figure that can't even look up ur smoking some good S#!t 😝🤣🤣
