Love the Trent at LB suggestion, opens up the whole pitch for his passing and even his shooting. Could see him and MacAllister balance each other out. Gakpo at striker feels natural for a manager prioritizing fluidity. A 6'4 tall forward, good ball carrier, decent in tight spaces, good speed and more than able to drift to the flanks and put in a cross. Same fluidity as a forward which made him seem lackluster as a central option in parts of this season compared to a very energetic Darwin in this high-pace and direct system, will now be instead a major strength.

    • @PythagorasinBoots

@@LFCliid His main problem is showing all those right-footed left wingers the inside and living with the constant fear of them getting that dangerous angle. If at LB he'd mostly face left footed players dribbling towards his stronger side making it easier for Trent.

Really hope Fabio Carvalho gets a fresh start with us.
Speaking of desire to have an intelligent player up top, Diogo Jota - if he can stay injury-free - might be a key player. Obviously, Cody Gakpo will likely be favoured looking to the future, but Diogo might be the best go-to next season, with Cody and Luis Diaz sharing LW.
Be interesting to see what Arne Slot makes of Darwin Nunez.. maybe Arne will be the one to really crack the code with Darwin, get him being less chaotic and more consistent.

Hi Pythagoras in Boots, as a Feyenoord fan this is the best analysis i have seen about Slot’s Feyenoord so far. You clearly did great research. Also very realistic on the threats on the counters as that’s been an issue at Feyenoord sometimes. However, I wanted to point out you used the wrong logo for Feyenoord when showing the stats. This one says “Sportclub Feyenoord” which is the logo of Feyenoords amateur side. The correct one says “Feyenoord Rotterdam” (I know there is always something to moan about sorry hahah). Loved the analysis, keep up the good work! I am curious what will happen with him at the wheel in Liverpool and hope he will win you guys some trophies. Kind regards, a Feyenoord fan 😊

Most in depth analysis from the most competent individual on YT yet again! 👏
Agree with absolutely everything you said but inevitably Slotts biggest challenge will not be tactics but how he deals with managing a club of Liverpools stature and the pressure which comes with it!
The video fails to mention Alisson when mentioning their second best defensive records despite best XG against. This was due to a weak individual player rather than a systematic issue. Imagine how much Allison will improve this aspect having consistently been one of the best to prevent high XG.
Also noticed a lot of people mentioning his styles susceptibility to counter attacks.
(Your take was perfect although brief)
All valid points but we're also forgetting Konate and VVD profiles are unlike any seen in world football. They're the best at Shepherding the high line and can eat up yards for fun!
This will be the key defrenciator in Slotts feyenoord to slots Liverpool. Those giants at the back will be mopping everything up and allowing Slott to be more flexible and take even more risk with his set up. Its a luxury very few managers are afforded in world football.
Ultimately,i think signing the right no6 will be pivotal in determining if this side can take the next step and win a Major honor again.Otherwise lfc will continue to limit themselves and fall short..

Such a good video. Im a huge Feyenoord fan and am absolutely gutted that Arne Slot is leaving. Your analysis on his tactics are spot on. Maybe one thing to add is the pressure from the 10 and the front three. Really interesting how they switch between pressing with 3 or 4 man, forcing the opponent to make fast decisions in an overload situation. Curious if he does that with Liverpool as well, as it also risky against the better teams.

Trent could be a decent option in the centre, although he'd probably have to work on his ability on the turn. I think you want to have Trent occupying the right half space (allows for his crossing ability to flourish and also lets him involve himself more) which seems to be where the CM find themselves. Flipping Slot's Feyenoord dynamics also suits Bradley and Salah really well.

Diaz has also shown to be able to play more wide this season. I think flipping the right and left sides of his tactics would make a lot of sense, even down to having Szoboszlai play more to the left as a 10 since he prefers coming off of that side

Another problem with Trent is that he has the smallest lungs on the team. He loves getting forward when he can, but when he has to retreat to defense, he doesn't have the stamina to get back. He won't be as energetic as Geertruida. Bradley would be a better option at right back.

As you mentionned, I feel like Bradley's capacity to overlap is what makes him a very exciting RB, but on the other side for me Robertson is still one of the best left backs in the PL (when he is not used as a LCB). I would start Trent as a double pivot with Mac Allister like he used to play for Brighton and balance each other out. Salah and Elliott being inverted right wingers can match really well, considering that the left winger has to be the one who goes high with the striker creating that 2-2-4-2, perfect role for Cody Gakpo or Anthony Gordon as he is recently mentionned in Liverpool. Thank you for this great video !

Slot has inherited a squad more than capable of adapting to his patient De Zerbi style build up play from the back. Alisson is 1 of the best GK in the world with the ball at his feet. Quansah, Van Dijk & Gomez are comfortable with the ball at their feet whilst in possession. Konate is pretty decent too but imo would be the 1 who would need working on interms of bringing the ball out of defence more convincingly. The likes of the 2 youngsters Bajcetic & Morton are brilliant in possession in deeper midfield areas as is Gravenberch & MacAllister, Endo isn't to shoddy either but the others are more comfortable in possession imo. Maybe a Wieffer, Zubimendi or Varela may possibly should be signed at the DM in the side seeing as we'll be far more of a possession based side this coming season but still with Klopp's high pressing & energetic style when winning the ball back & attacking.

I think he's a great manager, but like Ten Hag I suspect his tactics will have to change or it will take time to implement his system. It would be nearly impossible to succeed in the Prem with a back 2 given how many good transitional teams there are. Liverpool will require a sufficiently good controlling/defensive midfielder and very disciplined full backs to execute a system like this. United didn't have either this season due to injuries and we can see how that has sufficiently hindered their entire game.

The draws were decided on some individual moments of brilliance from world champions like Dybala. Slot has been getting the most out of a group of football players that are performing well over theor original value (Wieffer was 500k from a Dutch second tier team for instance and is now a Dutch international)
