Update on The DISGUSTANG, the Junkyard 1969 Mach 1!

- Here’s an update on the Disgustang, David Freiburger's 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 that was rescued from the junkyard at Colorado Auto and Parts where it sat from 1981 to 2017! You can see this car in episodes 66, 73, and 74 of Roadkill and in episodes 44 and 45 of Roadkill Garage, all on MotorTrend TV and streaming.
The video shows what I did to to make this car great. That includes rust repair by Hot Rod Ranch, a 410ci Blueprint Engines stroker with AFR 195 heads making 490 lb-ft and 412 hp to the tires, and a TKO600 five-speed swap from American Powertrain. The exhaust is 2.5-inch with JBA headers and mufflers.
The suspension includes Global West upper arms, a 1.25-inch front bar, cut coils, 1-inch drop blocks, and Koni shocks. The wheels are 15x7 with 4.25 backspacing and 15x8 with 4.75-inch backspacing. Tires are 235/60-15 and 275/60-15. I used Mike Maier subframe connectors and X-brace and Global West tower brace and Monte Carlo bar. The power steering was converted to a Borgeson setup.

Because you can daily this one and have a blast all without having to worry too much about it being damaged.
It's that way with every classic muscle car, look at the General Mayhem for example.
For me, this car's story is what makes it special.
I remember watching the video of Dave and Mike rescuing it from that yard in Colorado. The sound of it firing up was great.
It's a simple thing, really. You, like myself, are not a member of the Sheepstangers Cult. A well worn outlier will always be more attractive, driveable(?), than some dime a dozen Steve McQueen, garage queen knockoff... Most muscle cars are really boring.
I miss roadkill, but Finnegan's Garage is good stuff.
And no, its not free here in England.

just gonna be buding in this conversation here, but if you really like the stuff they do and also just like car programs, and live in EU where evry car realated program is years in the past instead of the new shows that came out reguraly in the us i dont think i would be that big of a problem to spend 5$ extra for all the content that motortrend on demand provides. all tho ive also had problems with the site.
@@snozbaries7652 You can watch the 3rd latest episode for free in the US on Motor Trend's website, or mobile app. (Episode 92 is free until this Monday, then episode 93 will go free) However, if you want to watch the backlog (74 - 91) you'll have to sign up to Motor Trend Premium.
You can watch for free in Europe as well, if you're willing to use a VPN.
Sure do miss Roadkill on RUclips, but to be held hostage by motortrend is less than desirable, so, rod on, thank God for Finnegan's Garage

@The Ronald I pay internet fees and enjoy those benefits. Roadkill was one of those benefits, now gone. Now they expect us to pay for what used to be free. They had a ton of subscribers, but like any big Corp, they wanted more than what youtube offered and are now holding those same subscribers hostage for $60.00 annually. How long do you expect them to be at that rate? I found that "entertainment" unworthy of any fees.

Plenty of other YT channels making good content to miss Roadkill all that much. Junkerup, 1962Impala2dr, Scotts Speed Shop, (Non sell out) Finnegan's Garage, Dylan McCool, Zip Ties and Bias Plies, Cold War Motors... are a few.
I actually was subscribed to MotorTrend (the magazine) a few years back. I Regret that in hindsight after seeing MT's greed concerning their YT content.

Your roadkill ep inspired me to work on my very own 1969 mach 1 fmx auto 315 Windsor. it hasn't started in basically 20 years but i have been trying to breath some life into her. its my dream car and its sitting in my driveway on jacks and waiting to be restored eventually.
Micky Thompson was the greatest hot rodder. I did not know about the 68 Mach 1 Bonneville cars.
I really miss watching the adventures you guys would go on. Too bad about the pay wall. Good luck with the show though!

Thanks David. I've been watching your progress on the disgustang closely. I'm doing my suspension on my '70 fb too. Here in Australia it's ridiculous the prices though. Luckily a lot of the parts are the same as our aussie Falcons.

I grew up hating autos, now I have a bad knee, drive buses part time and love it when I'm given a vehicle that has one. I'll drive manual cars but bus clutches suck for the main part, with cars I won't buy anything that has more than a five speed, six is just silly I reckon and laugh when I see 7 speed gearboxes in modern sports cars, what a pain in the arse!

Just caught the episode on MTOD and I wanted to thank you for going as in-depth as you did on the suspension setup you put together. I have a 65 comet and a lot of the undercarriage stuff is pretty similar to what you're working with. I've got some nuttier ideas in mind down the road (lift springs, all-terrains, flamethrower exhaust, machineguns, little things like that) but your work is encouraging and really helpful.
Love the car David.. been following it from day 1. Love the motor trend app.. that is about all I watch now.

Still definitely roadkill I don’t watch tv so I can justify paying for motortrend on demand. The show is the same as it’s always been no changes.
Just be a regular youtuber, meaning show your content via youtube and not MT (used to watch roadkill), and I will buy the shirt or some similar merchandise.
I'd rather be riding Maybe he will if he knows people will buy Merch. Kinda scary to leave a paying job at motortrend for ‘maybe’ people support him on RUclips.
@@seanbailey317 If motortrend pays him well, that's an assumption. My assumption was that they had a brand (roadkill) to succeed on youtube (they were a success). Who knows, right? Either way, he produces great content.

I had the motor trend app and subscription but it kept glitching out. Every time I would try and watch it it would tell me to sign up but I already was. And was already logged in. I got tired of paying for something I could not use so I cancelled the subscription and deleted the app. I miss watching your shows but I refuse to pay for something that only works less than 50% of the time.
