My First car was a 1972 Datsun 510 2dr when I was 14, can't believe iv had it for 12 years. It was my great Grandmas car she bought used in 1976 from our local Nissan dealer. I learned to do my first efi engine swap in it (ka24de) and also paint and bodywork ( needs redone ), I never plan on selling it and hope to keep changing and making memories with it! I love seeing cars and hearing stories like this!
David Freiburger, hear my cries. I miss Roadkill. Even though it was supposed to remain free for the world, I find myself at the bleeding edge of the globe in New Zealand, geo-blocked from accessing any of MTOD's content. I miss you guys. I was hooked by RUclips, paid to help stave off depression and now I'm blocked from everything. I could deal with the endless app bugs and desktop UI issues to sit down for an hour and watch you guys tool on cars on Roadkill Garage, but that is unfortunately no longer. I can only describe it as being cheated out of my favorite show. All the best. Still your biggest fan regardless. David.H New Zealand
I had same problem from Australia. I changed my default location from Australia to America on the App Store. Downloaded the app and then changed it back
Never sell your first classic, people. Held mine for 17 years. Freiburger was the only time i had signed up for car craft / hot rod subscriptions(he even printed my letter to editor in car craft)Keep on dave ,youre the man!👍👍
My grandad was driving by a field one day and he sees this car and he's like " I think that's my first car" so he pull over and asked the dude about the car and he said something like " my father bought it form this dude that was going to collage and needed to pay for it and I got it from him and it's just sat there for ever". And my grandad asked do you remember the name of the dude or do have the paperwork and goes and ll the and my grandad sold his dad that car like 40 years go and he completely restored it to the he had that car and I really hope you never sell that super bee because what if you never find it like my grandad got super lucky.
Keep up the good work David. You and the RK family are an inspiration to so many people who can''t justify the money for a "perfect" car. My ratty 79 Firebird is plenty of fun just like it is.
My 1st car was a 79 f150. My 1st muscle car was a 73 javelin/amx. I bought it in 2000 from a backyard in Fleetwood, pa (where they used to make the old Cadillac bodies before production was made in house in Detroit. The building was still there and in used as a wood factory until a few years ago when it burned to the ground. Hence the name Cadillac Fleetwood, named as an homage to that factory), where it had sat since 1992 for $550. Towed it home, replaced the battery cables, the battery and rebuilt the carb and it fired right up. Daily drove it until 2003 and drove it occasionally until 2005. It now sits in the backyard. It needs a ton of work (some that should of been done when I bought it, some from driving it and some from it sitting). It’s rough but still a solid starting point. I’ve got it running and it was able to move under its own power several times since but life gets in the way and I end up have to stop working on it. I’ve considered selling it several times (and almost had it sold once) but I know if I did, I’ll never be able to replace it. I’ve been following the super bee for years and love the fact that despite all the cars you’ve had over the years, you still kept your first one. Not many can say they still have their 1st car. You’ve had that car as long as I have been alive. I’ll be 35 next month.
#11 Thing about Freiburger's Super Bee: I was briefly sales manager at Jacobs Electronics at 3327 Verdugo Rd., Los Angeles, in the 1980's, and worked with David (also a Jacobs employee) when he was barely past his teens. I do not remember the circumstances behind him looking to sell, but I had an opportunity to buy this very Super Bee for $2500. I had a couple of Cosworth Vegas as well as a genuine Scarab Datsun Z project car at the time, usurping any and all extra funds, so I ended up passing on it.
Dave, we are the same age and my 1st car was a '55 Chevy. My Dad had a ton of different cars growing up and he wanted to get me something we could work on together. So at 15 years old, we started working on that 55 Chevy with a 327 & 4 speed muncie. We got it back on the street and I drove it to high school and prom. Sold it to a buddy when I was in college.. It's still in the area and 2 years ago his son drove it to prom at my same high school. Gotta love it!
I used to watch roadkill all the time, then motor trend came in and stoped uploading it to RUclips. Good times. You have insanely inconsistent upload time Frieburger
Nice ride, my dad owned the only convertable super bee ever made, it was the show car introducing the new model year and was shown around the country at state fairs were he first saw it, it was the Florida State Fair.. Had a 440 4 barrel, Pearl Yello that faded to white down the sides also chrome side pipes bottom of the doors. Bucket seats, console shifter, black hood like yours. The sad thing is people were always taking pics of it every where he went but he doesn't have one pic of it. Matter of fact Mopar magazine did a story on it several years ago and all they had was a small black and white profile shot of it. The paint started cracking and it was going to cost a bundle to correct so he sold it. My uncle kept up with it for a while but told me some young kid ended up with it and wrapped it around a power pole. Boy how I wish my dad was a car guy and would have just kept it, can you imagine what that thing would be worth today.
Keep hood black. My family has a 1969 Pontiac LeMans that both my brother and I drove to high school (back in 2002-2006). My dad bought an aftermarket GTO hood for it, which came primed black, and we installed it and told ourselves “we’ll paint it someday.” To this day (2018) it is still black. We get lots of comments on how cool it looks. I think it is how the car wants to look like. Very unique and badass looking!
Black! The black hood is the iconic hot rod Mopar look. My 69 440 Roadrunner looked so much meaner with a flat black hood. Painted is nice, but the black attack is better.
I thought you would like this, I have my 1st car a 1970 Dodge Super Bee. I put mine in the ditch in front of my High school, my only real dent. Mine is a 383 car that when I bought it at 15 had a 440 in it , that I’ve blown 3x and now has a 440 for the last 20 years. I have owned it for 43 years. F8 green with green interior, bench seat with a pistol grip shifter, dual hood scoop car, white vinyl top, white C stripe . I did just get my Go Mango Demon 170. Seems like we have a lot in common.
I'm 32 and still have my first car, 1976 Holden Torana....I nearly put mine in a ditch when I was young too my brother slid out the window as it was see sawing and held it on the roofline to stop it falling then I sat on the boot untill he got out grandpa's landcruiser and pulled it out😂😂😂
I get a good laugh that you have owned it as long as I have been alive. But its such a great car. Something special about the 70's mopar's :) . I own a 70 barracuda myself :)
Thanx for the video. Fun history. Loved your car craft cheap builds back in the day. Where you added up every cent. Been following your work since. Was realistic for me when I was young, hell, still is. I like the black. It’s already done, if you leave it, you don’t need to make the time to switch it.
bryan rut Caddy hack.... Had to mention that epic article to someone the other day ..... car craft kicked ass!!! I didn’t even have a car when I started reading it!!
MrHillfolk that was a good one. Does anyone remember the 500 cube caddy engine into the chevette? That thing was cheap, wild, and fast for the junk it was made outta. Was that car craft?
I love hearing the stories about any car/truck that has a long ownership history. That gives each car/truck character, that's what makes any car/truck special. A piece of steel becomes a member of the family. Long live American Iron! Great story David!
I almost bought one of there Mopars back in 1995 for $4500 with a 440 hooked to a pistol grip 4spd. Orange was the color n rolling on polished centerline's with a sure grip 391 posi. I was stupid to pass it by😣 . Cool show
The black hood makes the car for me, every time I’ve seen it since the revival a decade ago when I was just about to start high school it’s always been that way and if I had one myself I’d probably have to do a black hood or it wouldn’t seem right considering this is the second car to the fast and furious charger that got me into mopars in the first place
My root beer brown 1955 chevy was also in a car magazine ad. The back cover of all the car mags back in the 80s for Thrush mufflers. The foto was taken in Napa Ca. at the "sparkle car wash" during the Car Craft cruising night. All my pals were in the foto as well, all from the neck down. You have great stories of your past David.
Hey!! My dad has a 1970 Dodge Super Bee 363. We’re in Colorado and we’d love to cruise with you! We watch you all the time too. I’m only 16 but I’d love to sit down and talk to you.
I say leave the hood black, it's a nice contrast and makes the front end look good- and let's be honest, the superbee needs all the help it can get (I'm gonna run like hell now)
I absolutely love this car. Love how it like lurches almost pounces when launch off the trans brake i would definitely leave the black fiber glass hood on it it just ties the look together in my opinion
I think any car can be a gem if you truly enjoy it, a lot of people like to debate Old vs. New, American vs. Foreign, Muscle vs. Tuner, Gas vs. Diesel, and Standard vs. Automatic, but the most important thing you should ask yourself is if it makes you happy or not and if you could ever imagine yourself getting rid of it, that's how I like to see it
I’d like to know 10 things about the Crusher Camaro. Was it a project car on Horsepower TV show? I vaguely remember it. Or they told a very similar story 20 years ago about a yellow Camaro they built.
Love the car, thank you very much for doing the video, didn't know you had a RUclips channel, already subbed to Finnegan's, but glad YT finally put you in my suggestions. I've seen all the Roadkill and Engine Masters episodes and love your work! keep doing what you're doing 😀
Hey David! Just wanted to say that this car has always been kind of an inspiration for me. I just passed 4 years with my YJ that I bought right after high school, and it's already on it's second engine, transfer case, and rear axle. I plan on daily-driving it as long as I'm able (hopefully forever). My girlfriend and I are putting the original engine (258) back into it this weekend and taking it to MoparFest in August. Long term I'm planning to use a fiberglass tub on a shortened JKU rolling chasis to get ahead of the awful body/frame rust.
What’s funny is when he said he didn’t have his first date in the Super Bee, well I’ve got a 72 Satellite and I was 17 when I went on my first date for my birthday which is in December. Date went okay but then when it came to drive her home, I stopped to get gas and the cold killed the battery and the car wouldn’t start. So my first date kinda went the same way Freibrurger’s did
The flat black hood just gives it the nostalgia race look. Having and orange hood would just make it look like every other super bee. From an artistic point, it breaks up the color and makes it less of a giant orange blob.
Nice! Thanks for sharing Dave. Met you guys a few years ago at the Ft. Worth drive in theater. It was nice meeting and chatting cars with you guys for a bit.
Uncle Tony double down on his wrongheaded reverse piston idea. He made a four minute video with a link to a guy with two subscribers that doesn’t show his face. But he did have a white drawing board. Love you guys.🤔
My ex wife still has her deceased son in laws 69 bee he bought summer of 76 when he got his license at 16 years old. He had enough sense to put it away before winter and buy a beater to drive. It still has about 70,xxx actual miles on it. He passed away back in 08
another fun fact. when david got hit and fucked up his arm. he got 11,000 from the insurance company and bought a plymouth roadrunner which his father hated and made him sell, and then he went on a long journey to buy another late model roadrunner just like the one he first bought. and eventually he found it during their cruise in the datson mini truck in ep58 of roadkill.
LEAVE IT BLACK! That said, I'm a Chevy guy at heart, although I've owned a lot of various things. To me, a '70 super bee is my all time favorite Mopar. I've never owned one, although I have had a '69 coronet 440 six pack car. I think any Chrysler product muscle car looks best with a black hood.
Glad to see the update I love this car. I would love to see updates like this on more cars like the crusher, your truck, the green jeep, and so on just the vehicle you have had along time. Oh and the Roadrunner since you are selling it :(.
My First car was a 1972 Datsun 510 2dr when I was 14, can't believe iv had it for 12 years. It was my great Grandmas car she bought used in 1976 from our local Nissan dealer.

Kevin I’m 26
I love the black hood, leave it as is. It gives it a really great pro street look.
Man, you've been bustin' your ass working and you still somehow found time to crank out a video for us.
Thanks Dave!
Paint the hood sparkly gold just to screw with Finnegan...
Yaaaaaaaaas!
I THOUGHT THIS WAS A DEAD CHANNEL ITS NOT!!!!SWEET!!!!
I would love to hear more of these stories from back in the day
Not even. join motortrend. Seriously, great site.

DV7Dave Thanks for the heartfelt note. I’m sorry it’s a corporate thing that I can’t solve.
I know. After I wrote that, I did some digging. It's just...Frustrating.
same for the uk i think
Polishing the wheels to my first truck as this plays. You have been a big inspiration
thats awesome David. in the 35 years i had literally close to 100 cars or more. i wish i was like you. i let a lot of good cars go.
Never sell your first classic, people. Held mine for 17 years. Freiburger was the only time i had signed up for car craft / hot rod subscriptions(he even printed my letter to editor in car craft)Keep on dave

we were all juvenile delinquents if you were a motor head in high school,,
You should submit for a verification badge with your 100k subs.
Mustie1
Not sure if it caused trouble or kept me out of worse trouble 😂😂
Black hood is way meaner! I’d like to see that burnt orange interior tho. David you’re a legend in the car scene!
My grandad was driving by a field one day and he sees this car and he's like " I think that's my first car" so he pull over and asked the dude about the car and he said something like " my father bought it form this dude that was going to collage and needed to pay for it and I got it from him and it's just sat there for ever". I say leave it black, black and orange go really well together, classic tough street car look. 👍🏻
Leave the hood black. It looks phenomenal, absolute dream car!
Keep up the good work David. You and the RK family are an inspiration to so many people who can''t justify the money for a "perfect" car. My ratty 79 Firebird is plenty of fun just like it is.
NapalmNate Thanks!
If you have 4 hoods
Orange
Black
Orange with black scoop
Black with orange scoop
Might as well have it all covered
Bought my 1970 Monte in 1983 as well! Still have it too. Congrats David on holding on to it.
Thanks David, Great video about the Super Bee. I still have had my 1st car 1973 Mazda rx3. Have owned it for 33 years almost as long as you. Cheers.
That's cool!

Leave the hood black. Makes the orange pop and Stand out better I think
the black hood has been an iconic part of the car ever since i first saw the car in 2013, keep it blackkk
Leave it black looks like a drag car more and it will also give it some characters in it #black hood

Great to see you, Freiburger- missed you since Roadkill went ppv. Leave the hood black!
5 bucks a month wow that's expensive
I get a good laugh that you have owned it as long as I have been alive. But its such a great car. Something special about the 70's mopar's :) . I own a 70 barracuda myself :)
Keep the black hood it gives the car the iconic David Freiburger super bee
Thanx for the video.
Fun history.
Loved your car craft cheap builds back in the day. Where you added up every cent. Been following your work since.

Keep the hood matte black. Breaks up some of the orange and looks badass.
Totally
Black hood for sure!
Some people celebrate there marriages, or celeberate graduation, no this man celebrates having this car for 35 years. Good on ya
I love the fact you still have your 70 superbee. You should do something special to it to replace the old architecture hemi
I almost bought one of there Mopars back in 1995 for $4500 with a 440 hooked to a pistol grip 4spd. Orange was the color n rolling on polished centerline's with a sure grip 391 posi. I was stupid to pass it by😣 . Cool show
Black hood is unique! Keep it
The black hood makes the car for me, every time I’ve seen it since the revival a decade ago when I was just about to start high school it’s always been that way and if I had one myself I’d probably have to do a black hood or it wouldn’t seem right considering this is the second car to the fast and furious charger that got me into mopars in the first place
orange and black for sure thats a beautiful car as it sits i love it
Funny if all the HOT ROD guys started doing videos together on YT.
I been subbed to David for years, glad to see some content, good luck!
I love this car! I have a 70 R/T challenger in Gomango with a burnt orange interior. The combination is stunning.
i like the contrast of the orange car with the black hood.
Great stories, I wish I still had my first car, 79 firebird formula, it was an 301 anchor, but I loved it.
Black...the car on your shirt looks yellow to me,by the way.
leave it black! I love it when i see guys that still have their first car; wish i could find mine.
I hope this channel does not end up on demand 😉😉😉
Thanks for sharing the history of your car and your juvenile hijinks. FYI, leave the hood black, it looks awesome!!
Black hood looks nice
I usually don't like flat or satin black paint but on the AAR Cuda's and your car here it really works and I like it. I say keep it black.
Need to yell at Finnegan to finish that c-10!!
Nice! I'm coming up on my 21st anniversary with my 71 Duster. Time flies.
Leave it black but put the super bee emblem on the front of the hood that Bee would pop on that black hood
Wouldnt it of been cool if the power steering pump popped the dent out from the volvo! Great stories!
Love the car! Leave the hood black.
I'd leave it black David. It adds character to the car. But it also yours with that being said make even yours more
I say leave the hood black, it's a nice contrast and makes the front end look good- and let's be honest, the superbee needs all the help it can get (I'm gonna run like hell now)
If your going full hemi hood, paint the fenders black as well to give it the super stock look
This year you can now say that you've owned this thing for 40 years now
That’s right!
I still have my first car too. My 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix LE. I have the car since 2004. This month I celebrating 15th anniversary by doing a ls swap.
Leave it black. But your friends were badass for helping to finish your car in the hosiptal.
Keep the matte black. It looks great!
Leave the hood black looks so cool that way.
Lilshu13 Would you please give my racing channel its 1460th Subscribe
I absolutely love this car. Love how it like lurches almost pounces when launch off the trans brake i would definitely leave the black fiber glass hood on it it just ties the look together in my opinion
Savor the flavor of that gem of a car Freiburger...Lots of car guys will never have the chance to enjoy such fortunes. Enjoy it. (I think black btw)

Chopper in the background and police sirens, high speed chase? Lol
Time for full nostalgia mode for the anniversary, orange bonnet (I'm Aussie) and the factory colour interior.
The dents in the trunk were from being locked inside the trunk with the key's left in the lock outside in the trunk.
Love the car, thank you very much for doing the video, didn't know you had a RUclips channel, already subbed to Finnegan's, but glad YT finally put you in my suggestions. I've seen all the Roadkill and Engine Masters episodes and love your work! keep doing what you're doing 😀
HOLY shit man when you lifted that sleeve my room got brighter
icykickflip basement dweller? Mountain dew and Doritos.
Had a factory lime green 70 Coronet R/T with 440,auto. One of the best cars I ever had!
I really dig this dude's job
Keep the black hood, it looks rad.
I like the black. Very cool you still have it. Wish I still had my first it was 1977 CJ5 it was in 1989. Enjoy all the shows.
What’s funny is when he said he didn’t have his first date in the Super Bee, well I’ve got a 72 Satellite and I was 17 when I went on my first date for my birthday which is in December. The 70' Super Bee is probably my favourite Mopar and this one is the coolest i have ever seen👌 Awesome Job Mr. Freiburger and greetings from Germany
Leave the hood black! It looks cool the way it is now .
Nice! Thanks for sharing Dave. Met you guys a few years ago at the Ft. Worth drive in theater. It was nice meeting and chatting cars with you guys for a bit.
Have always liked the Super Bees.....I can sure understand why he detuned the HEMI to make it more streetable.....Cam selection are so important...
Uncle Tony double down on his wrongheaded reverse piston idea. He made a four minute video with a link to a guy with two subscribers that doesn’t show his face. But he did have a white drawing board. Love you guys.🤔
You’re my hero dude. Thought you’d like to hear that.
Nice, thank you
If I could obtain half the automotive knowledge of you, I will call myself a real man.
Dang - 35 years - well done - congratulations!!
My ex wife still has her deceased son in laws 69 bee he bought summer of 76 when he got his license at 16 years old. He had enough sense to put it away before winter and buy a beater to drive. It still has about 70,xxx actual miles on it. He passed away back in 08
Paint the hood orange! I think the Super Bees front end looks a bit awkward with the black hood.
another fun fact. when david got hit and fucked up his arm. he got 11,000 from the insurance company and bought a plymouth roadrunner which his father hated and made him sell, and then he went on a long journey to buy another late model roadrunner just like the one he first bought. and eventually he found it during their cruise in the datson mini truck in ep58 of roadkill.
Leave the hood black. Looks good
Leave the hood black just like it is. Beautiful car man.
