- The Cult, rain, live at the Alabamahalle, Munich, Germany February 3rd 1986. Recorded from digital rebroadcast onto Panasonic DVD recorder at SP. The Cult are an English rock band formed in Bradford, West Yorkshire in 1983. These guys had such amazing music. Have all their albums. Very tight band
The Cult do not get the respect they so damn well deserve.
That's part of what makes them so cool. Nothing that everyone likes is really any good.
Not from the media no, but those who love them respect Ian and Billy a lot! Like me for instance 😁❤
That’s because their catalogue up to and including the “Love” album (“Rain” & “Sanctuary”) was great (the “Dreamtime” album especially). After “Love” though they went a bit shit. Well, a lot shit actually.
This was emphasised by how great they were on their recent DeathCult tour where they only played stuff up to “Love”
In my humble opinion of course.
They do from the people that matter, I love how they’ve flown a little under the radar, makes them even better, it’s like our(fans) little secret👌😎
@markwoods6475 I have followed them around but I know fans that literally go around the world to see them. They literally have a Cult following. Since the beginning. If you get it, you get it. Got to meet them, too 😊
“Love” is one of the most underrated, prog-metal albums of all time.
Its an absolutely fantastic album.
Love is one of the legendary albums of music history.
@@Proton-KB For sure. It’s a genre of one album. No band had ever sounded like that. Their later stuff was fun and campy butnever captured the brilliance of “Love”.
@@brucesyvertsen2147 It’s a unique fusion of goth, metal, New Romantics and pomp rock. A lot of Charlie Burchill in the guitar, but with a harder more proggy edge. Even The Cult were never able to replicate this sound in future albums.
@@Wokko1963 Agreed, I missed this albums sound in their future releases. So much atmosphere to the sound on this album. That being said, I loved Electric and sonic temple, sadly my neighbors didnt, at least at the volume I chose to enjoy them at :-).....
Billy is such an amazing guitarist
Definitely! Billy, plus Geordie from Killing Joke, Husker DU’s Bob Mould, and Wofie from Red Lorry Yellow Lorry. Just a wailing bunch of over the top chord slashers!!! My favorite kind of guitarists…..
Guitarist from another dimension
ermm not so much, but, managed
It’s easy to forget how outrageous Astbury was in the early 80s. Leather pants, flares, big Jim Morrison belt, amazing stage presence. “Open the sky, and let her come down!”
I have this 12”. I was a DJ in the 80s and 90s and The Cult was one of the few human drummer bands I could play that a techno-esque crowd would dance to. In fact, Love Removal, Fire Woman, Sanctuary, and this were some of my reliable floor packers.
Rain was extra special because it’s obviously The Cult, but didn’t have huge radio success, so every time I played it was the first time people in my club heard it.
I will admit, though, that my new favorite Ian track is UNKLE’s remix of Burn My Shadow. Ian’s voice is just dripping with goodness.
I like all 3 Cult songs that have that bass line
Fantastic song of Gr8 Band so underrated. Ian is amazing vocalist and Billys guitar only makes goosebumps. 🤘🤘🤘
Im a Heavy metal guy. I like electric and sonic temple, but I wish they’d stayed like this. Love is a great album from beginning to end. It’s one of the few albums that I have on 3 different formats
Check out their album Electric / Peace. It (Peace) is a lot of the songs from Electric but with Love’s goth sound. Rick Rubin later changed the songs to sound more like the standard rock that Electric was released as. Another good set to listen to is called “The Manor Sessions”. I think you can even find them here on YT. Definitely worth a listen.
I’m exactly the same as you. I’m a huge Prog metal fan, but the “Love” album is a singularity. No album has ever sounded like it. I liked their later stuff for being over the top and campy, but for me “Love” is like “Regatta de Blanc”. A genre with only one album.
@@steveclark5206 thanks
@@Wokko1963 I’m a big Tool and rush fan… I liked them as southern death cult too.
Wasn't "Heavy Metal" a derogatory term for music heard by journalist?
And Hard Rock Blues the words given to most journalists by the bands themselves but ignored by enough for the insult to stick?
RARE, VALUABLE, IT WILL NEVER BE LIKE THIS AGAIN
I chatted to Ian and Billy at Leeds Warehouse club around this time. They were so tight, came off dance floor with t shirt ripped off. Amazing band, Southern Death Cult then Death Cult then The Cult.
I just saw the Death Cult
Music does sound like this anymore...especially what a live performance can bring
god we needed this in the grim 80s
Fuckin A Right we did
Questi si che erano i gruppi...oggi solo piattume
Saw Ian singing for the Doors ❤
ME too!!
And me!
One of the best Cult tunes
Love it 🤘🏻
I was in Germany at the time of this concert but was likely freezing my ass off in some fighting position in Graf or Hohenfels. Wish I would’ve seen these guys back then, such talented badasses.
Ian missing some of the words actually makes this an interesting version. In terms of looks Ian is at his peak here (as is Billy). Music really has gone backwards since those great days.
Nice, audio is surprisingly good.
I LOVE THIS BAND
Ah... Nostalgia... Nostalgia...
I remember hearing The Cult the previous year with the "Love" album and I was totally blown away...Back then I was submerged in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and I even had my own band but The Cult was something fascinating and different although it was still guitar-driven powerful rock...
Never gets old🥰
Superb live perfomance.
'Demons 2' brought me here.
Top The Cult song. Great find.
Great band saw them live in 2008. Loved it
Brilliant band. I saw them live in Vancouver in the early 90’s
Saw them at Cardiff Uni in ?85 ...the moshpit left me with bruises in places that I didn't even know existed😂😂😂Fantastic band, live.
Ditto, Leicester De Montfort Hall in '86 a bit after this performance, only my second ever gig and unmatched experience to this day
Epic!! Thanks so much for continuing to post content like this: it’s like a unique look into the past!
Even when Ian is tired, the songs find their own individuality, lol
I thank my friend for being die-hard in the 80s Cult. I dig it.
I saw these guys opening for Billy Idol right around this time. Most of the people where there to see these guys instead of Idol just like when I saw Metallica opening for Ozzy around the same time as this most people where there to see Metallica and not Ozzy.
Uma das melhores bandas do mundo 😍
It's one of the best bands in the world
I saw the Cult in 2016 open up for GNR in L.A., and they still rocked hard. 😮
Ian &Billy forever 🥰❣💋Hello from Serbia💗💓💞💕❤💥💫💔
Оооо, какие они молодые! ❤ Йен Эстберри и Билли Даффи! Какие красавцы! ❤😊 И таланты! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I think it's the UK indie feel and sound with Astbury's mid Atlantic rock vocal that makes The Cult unique and interesting.
Interesting observation
Great song, great band!! Thanks STV!!
Thanks a lot Sir from Italy ✋🇮🇹
Thank you so much for sharing this gem.
che tempi over 80❤👍
I remember them on tv in England on the old grey whistle test they performed
“Resurrection Joe”. Not so heavy metal in those days but I was fascinated and liked them from the start.
Excellent group sorely much underrated… and I include myself as this my period but I guess I was too absorbed with Wham!, Depeche Mode, Ultravox, A-ha 🤦🏻♂️…. She Sells Sanctuary is one of my all time favourite tracks now. Thank heavens we all “grow up eventually”…. Love all music genre now…. 👍
The badass Gretsch Falcon in all its glory!
Amo quest'uomo. Grande voce ,grande presenza scenica. Bravi tutti,ma Ian è stratosferico.
Not heard this for ages... cool riff... takes me back to 6th year art class at school :3
Sick
My beautiful darling Ian! 😍 His voice had definitely matured by this stage. This would be 1986 S'teevee, if I am correct? He will always always be my No. 1! ❤😍💗
My all time favourite band no one else comes close here comes the rain ☔
Always makes it interesting with word selection, still great version and song!!🎉🎉
Epic album even greater band
Love them ❤ CFFC 🤘🏻🔥!!
oh yeah, saw this tour. still love the tone on the guitar. sweet oh sweet.
Even at this almost 40 yo live performance they sound amazing!
Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
They were/are a great band.
Thank you for this.
Essa banda foi pouco divulgado no Brasil, prá mim está entre as melhores e maiores bandas do planeta
Oloco! Maiores do planeta... Calma ai
Excellent ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Love
Superb band and BD is one of my all time fav guitarists.
aw what to say ? pure perfection :)
Chills!!!!!
Gosto deles, só quando vi ao vivo foram uma desilusão, mas continuo a gostar
cool, thanks for sharing
What's so funny is this is such a favorite of the fans (especially the girls, considering the subject matter) but Ian hates this song even though he wrote it & i think you can see that in his face a bit, here. Maybe that's why it's changed up a bit live, to make it tolerable for him to perform! But it is a really hot & sexy sound & i'm happy they still perform it to this day.
Brilliant
What a great entry from "Rain"
I have songs from all their albums from Love. They managed to consistently write good music.
So so good
What a great band they are. Thanks for posting this superb raritie
TRES Cool
Masterpiece incredible
Thanks for watching and commenting, I'm glad you found and enjoyed this video
Used to have this whole concert on VHS 📼
Wildflower, love removal machine.
Wow this is great!!
Absolutely superb
Thanks for watching and commenting
Great times, thanks for this excellent share. Rain is still one of the best.
🤘👍🤘
Fire woman, you're to blame...
Great song!
What a great sound. Powerful.
It goes without saying everyone needs to join an, Cult.
2023-2024 the cult has surrounded my life since finding them
Beautifil poetalplain❤
Les Warner rocking the drums
I'm wondering if Peter Steele modeled a bit of his stage presence after Ian Asbury.
Thanks, man. 👍
Glad you enjoyed this
awesome!!
Saw the cult in Pittsburgh 1986..same tour. Poor ticket sales. Me and 500 others in the basement of a ballroom. Later they were paired up with Lenny Kravitz! Best show!
Billy Duffy had the best hair ever
Great band
No autotune or playback here…
Simply a real live gig, unlike today crap shows.
fire woman before fire woman.
Grazie per il video 😅
Thx for this! Is there a complete concert of this date available?
There is actually! At least I'm sure there is! Picture quality is a bit off but the sound is good 👍
I have 28 minutes of this show, in the same quality, taken from a 1995 rebroadcast. I have never seen more than this. But on the original broadcast 1986, there was one different song shown which was Big Neon Glitter, it was dropped from the 1995 broadcast and a song was added to give the show the same run time, I have no idea why this was done.
@@ScottishTeeVee I do believe it was because the picture quality was very bad S'teevee...I remember that specifically. Because I can see it now. It looked as though the film had melted or something if that makes sense 🤔 like a pool in the road where oil had spilt...you know the rainbow 🌈?
@@sandrafisherhayes3219 Here's a link to my 28 minute version from the1995 rebroadcast, as perfect as you might ever see it ruclips.net/video/frU1mTdm3Wc/видео.html
@@ScottishTeeVee awww thank you 😊❤
Batcave kids in the front row. Take me back!
Man this brings back good memories! I was at this show as a kid at Thunderbird Arena Vancouver
Fun fact: This concert helped take down the wall :-)
When I liked the Cult. Pre Electric.
Whatever. Electric is awesome. Good hard rock n roll. I didn't even know them until then, then went back to the older ones
The thumbnail is an absolute dead ringer for Max Headroom
Ah to be 26 again…
The singer looks doped up to the eyeballs
Why in the 80's live concerts were so awesome?
Cause they and all these great bands were young
