Just for your information, the local kecap manis in Medan does carry a slighly different taste profile and not just sweet. That sambal for soto also has a squeeze of lime.

As the bataknese im so proud that you've tried the Saksang (pork with the blood sauce), Grilled pork, and dali (buffallo's milk). Unfortunately you didnt try the arsik and naniura. Arsik is one of the original food in batak and it should be served in every batak's event (marriage, funeral, etc), it is golden and you guys have to try it next time (and dont forget to eat it's egg in arsik). And naniura is also golden fish, but the fish is not cooked (tidak digoreng/rebus/bakar. . It just soaked (direndam dan didiamkan) in citrus and then the fish will be cooked (matang). The season of durian is usually in the 6th and 12th month and usually only up to a month until it is harvested from the tree. durian in sumatra comes from the sidikalang area of dairi district in north sumatra province. sidikalang is also currently experiencing the duku fruit season. And if you buy directly in the Sidikalang area, you only need to pay 13 thousand rupiah for 1 large durian fruit...

3:20. Kecap in every region has in local taste. In Sumatra most Kecap are not as sweet but more savory, Whist Kecap in Java are more sweeter. That is why "Sambal Kecap" taste is unfamiliar for you

Original martabak is the savory one (with vegs and meat), which said to be originated from India's "Moortaba", brought to Jawa island in 1930 (aslo related to Middle East's "Murtabak")
But the sweet one is a totaly different kind of food, which is originated from Bangka island, from people of Hoklo (Chinese ethnic group in Southeast Asia).
It have many names, such as : Hok Lo Pan , Kue Bangka, Apam pinang, etc, and another popular name in Indonesia is "Terang Bulan".
Yet for unclear reason, in some regions in Indonesia (mostly Jakarta and nearby), the sweet one is called "Martabak Manis" (sometime even excludes the "manis" word), which cause confusion among foreigners.
And Jakarta being the capital of Indonesia, and the dominant souce of news and media, the term "Martabak Manis" is getting more popular as we know today.
The sweet one is also a delicacy in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, etc, but Indonesian version is probably the "extreme" version regarding ingredients, toppings, and size.
Funfact, i live in bangka and there is no chinese here sells martabak bangka, just martabak manis, haha

Those putu are not quite the same as the cheaper putu from mobile putu seller. I mean those putu you ate are made of better quality ingredients. That's why it taste better. And the price (3k each) is normal for that high quality putu.

Mengenai susu kerbau, memang butuh waktu lama untuk suka. Harus beberapa kali coba. Dan beberapa kali makan di awal2 nya cukup 1 atau 2 sendok saja.. Tidak 1 porsi sekaligus seperti itu.. Trust me.. Hahaa.. Btw, Sitalolo termasuk terbaik di Medan, saya sering ke sitalolo kalau pulang kampung ke Medan.
