- Today I have visited the wonderful Faversham Miniature Railway and their 9" gauge railway, what an amazing little railway with their volunteers who have plenty of stories (which I should of filmed) and also a little look at the area.
.
If you wish to volunteer please contact them on their Facebook Page under the same name above.

Its not the only 9 inch gauge railway in the uk but definitely the only public one
I have lived in Kent all my life, and literally just a few miles from Brogdale for the last 20 odd years, and though I knew about the fruit collection there, I have never heard of the railway before now.
Glad you enjoyed your time here at the railway!!
Thanks again!
If you want more visitors use the word Brogdale in the name.
grew up in kent. Never heard of it. Good excuse to visit the railway and have a few pints of S&N too.
Amazing!! We live nearby on the north Kent coast and had no idea that this railway existed at Brogdale!! This is a definite visit with the grandchildren next summer when they're visiting!!!
So glad you'll be making a visit next year! well worth it with the farm shop and tea room on site 👌
Looks nice, all the best.
(I know that slip road off the M2 being a Canterbury man) and a brown tourism road sign on that slip featuring the apple heritage AND the model railway would be bound to increase awareness.
I'd heard about this railway but have never visited it. Next time I visit my parents (in decent weather!) I'll have to give it a visit. My niece (coming up to 4 years old) would love this!
Fantastic journey thanks cheers from Bruce.blenheim south island new Zealand
Thankyou for watching Bruce, keep an eye out for more content!
Have you got any similar in NZ Bruce?
The amount of times I have been past Brogdale going to and from Painters Forstal in 44 years I wouldn’t like to guess. Never even knew of its existence. Unfortunately I don’t live locally anymore otherwise I would of paid a visit.
It's amazing what you can find in places!
Great video, just a few miles away from me, thanks for the video, never knew it existed
Thanks John! Same for me been in the area for a few a years and only found out a few weeks back about it, wonderful place!
Me neither John.
The Lakeshore Railroad in South Marine Park, South Shields, is 9½" gauge.
The Downs School Railway at Upper Colwall is also 9.5" gauge. It is open to the public on occasional open days.
I'm not 100% sure but I believe there is a 9" railway in Gillingham in Kent. It's at the strand, a small river side park by the River Medway. It's only open during the summer season. Not much to look at in closed season but you can walk the track which is a single oval.
I believe it used to be a 9" Gauge but now runs as a 7¼ from what I seen but never knew that!
Amazing long railway, there must be miles of track.
it's a good 15 minutes long, well worth the £1.50 👌
I found the ride too fast. So I watched much of it at x0.75 speed.
@@johncourtneidge I watch at 1.25 and it seems faster than a 125
Excellent! Well done!
I wonder if this marvellous gem is is in any of my Narrow Gauge Railways in Kent, etc books?
Brilliant video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Of course the most visited back in the day was the railway at Dreamland, the track lingered on when Bembon Brothers took over but I imagine that is all long gone with the redeveloped theme park as it stands today, was one of my most favourite rides back in the day, I grew up with BR as my late father was a ubiquitous signalman who retired having attained a record of most passed out signalman on BR.
Wow that is quite an mazing feat to achieve in the BR days! Was he part of the railways when steam was still prominent?
Great little railway. Great video. We will be sure to visit next year. Can’t volunteer as I live too far away!
It's the only public 9" gauge railway, there is a private one in Kent.
Heya! I do mention this towards the end of the video 👌
9 1/2" gauge steam railway in South Shields - Lakeshore Railroad.
You can’t beat 9 inches! So I’m told.
🤣
There used to be a miniature railway next door to Falconwood station I seem to remember, also I remember as a kiddie when they installed the railway at Thong Lane park (now Cascades) in Riverview Park in the 70's and was most surprised its still going strong. So if memory serves me right a "Man o' Kent" is born north of the Medway and a "Kentish man" south of the Medway?
A Man of Kent (or Maid of Kent} has to be born East of the Medway, and accordingly A Kentish Man (or Kentish Maid) born West of the river.
Regards from a Man of Kent (born in Whitstable)
Seems weird when you pass full sized ground frames and crossing gates. Like land of the giants.
Speaking to the volunteers they said they were donated from Teynham Station when the gates were replaced with new ones!
Didn't they used to have a small 9" railway at Bressingham ?
Having just looked it was a 9½! Funny how many gauges there are here!
Only an out and back ride. Put in an outer terminal station and then VAT is not chargeable.
I believe there are plans to put in a Halt station at some point!
There is a request stop all the way round
Just a note to those boomers watching, if you remember the model village that was down by Ramsgate chines in the 1960s. It now still exists up at Beaconsfield miniature Railway (between Slough and High Wycombe)
I don't remember that, but I do remember the railway that used to be at Dramland.
@@delboy1727 👍😁
TMOK stop worrying about your damned finger nobody cares about that. We are seeing a great miniature railway and the finest collection of apple species in Europe. I grew up here between Canterbury and Faversham, my late father was also an apple grower and my niece and also my big sister live very close to the Hythe Dymchurch miniature railway that myself and kids, and now grandchildren have ridden hundreds of times. Great content, thank you so much (and stop worrying about that finger!) 👉 (p.s. if that Railway crew want more visitors they should rename it “Brogdale Miniature Railway” then a lot more Kent people would know how to find it, just off the M2 Faversham junction. Live long and prosper.
I agree the finger and renaming points.
@@johncourtneidge if anyone comments on the finger, just say “you’ve gone digital” ..
What is a Finger Alert?
It's when you see finger marks when filming the train ride 🤣
@@TRAVELMANOFKENTWell done for being so patient and polite in your answer.
A lesser man (me for instance) would have spent too many minutes trying to work out the possibility of hidden humour because surely nobody can be as vapid as the question would imply.
Takes all sorts to make the world go round I s'pose.
Nice vid. Thanks.
Would not have noticed any of them had it not been plastered over the screen, too busy looking at the big picture,,, cracking little railway, We have a small gauge railway here at Lodmoor in Weymouth, which does an oval too, not sure which gauge it is, but it’s not a patch on that one there
Ah its 10 & quarter inch, The lamb Rio Grand, Weymouth bay railway
I spend years on a small narrow gauge as a kid with my dad in Barking Park in Essex, , Went from the park entrance to the boating lake at the other end of the park, it’s still there, but rarely open …
Why 9 and not 10 and a quarter?
Couldn't tell you why but the volunteers explained when I was there that there were alot of private 9" gauge railways back in the 30s - 60s and this one is tied up with Torry Hill
@@TRAVELMANOFKENT 9 inches makes more sense than 10 and a quarter in maths terms being a multiple of 3. I had never heard of a 9 inch railway before your video. Too early to start do maths on Imperial measurements..........
The 9 inch locos wouldn’t fit on that gauge.
For scale model miniatures, 9" or 9 1/2" gives a scale of about 1/6th full size whereas 10 1/4" gives a scale of about 1:5.5.
It's 9 ich as the railway started off with a 9ich gauge loco that is y its not 10.1/4 and its just got added two
