"506" & "257 SQUADRON" On Xmas Duties | The Watercress Lines "STEAM ILLUMINATIONS"
Hi all this week video comes from The Watercress Lines "Steam Illuminations, I haven't actually been to the railway in daylight yet but as we were in the area we felt why not get that Christmas spirit?
For a 1st time doing the Illuminations I have to say what a fantastic event from start to finish very well organised and will certainly do it again (next year) & turns out there will be 2 steam engines running back and forth from Alton to Alresford on our night night it was "506" & "257 Sqaudron" but makes sure you purchase the right ticket from the right station as I nearly made that mistake but do not worry one ticket equates to a return fare from the starting station.

"50th Anniversary Gala 1974-2024" | Kent & East Sussex Railway
We all hope to see you again this years 😊
Oh certainly I will be back for the minutiae steam weekend!
I think much of the stock shown here was at the Barry Tourist Railway. I remember seeing that frightful 73 for sure.
That would be 73118 which has had the conversion back to normal and the gle stock is still based at Barry 👌🏻
Despite being a diesel this thing ought to be at least, protected from the weather. Better still restored. Baguley (at one time, McEwan, Pratt, Baguley) was a very well known manufacturer of industrial locomotives.
If you want to visit freddys old home go to marks tey and go to the poplar miniature railway
I may visit the railway in the near future to do a video on the railway, keep your eyes peeled!
Wher is that engine
A Private railway in Essex can't display where exactley but watch my full length video of the day out there it was a good day!
I miss freddy he used to be in the poplar miniature railway until the took him away
@@TravelManOfKent I am about to cry because after months I found out that freddy was ok and he was one of my favourite engines on the poplar miniature railway
As a canadian, you can def see just how collosal our "small" rolling stock is
It certainly was! very comfy in the top seats I must say. Defo worth going on again 👌🏻
I was one of your first subs on a different account and I’m happy to see you getting more views and 700 subs!
Thankyou! Next year will be insane with the 200 celebrations going on around the UK. Got some good stuff coming up and booked in for the year so we'll see 😉
"50th Anniversary Gala 1974-2024" | Kent & East Sussex Railway Railway for "50th Anniversary Gala" and what a day TRAVEL MAN OF KENT love louis shirley
Certainly was! A once in lifetime event that we'll probably won't see again and was a fantastic day!
Isn’t that just an Achilles?
I have just checked and it comes up as either a Polly III or an Achilles not too sure which one is the correct term 🤣
@@TravelManOfKent that is an Achilles mate
Fair play! Was told by the owner it was a Polly III my mistake! www.stationroadsteam.com/5-inch-gauge-polly-iii-stock-code-6845/
@@TravelManOfKent that’s a Polly 3, that’s an Achilles, valve gear etc is all different
😎
Glad you enjoyed your visit mate hopefully you'll get a chance to visit again when the weather is a bit better we're hopefully planning the next "steam up Saturday" as we call them, for the summer and the dates will be posted on the Facebook page
Sorry for the late reply! Ooohh looking forward to it will keep an eye on Facebook! A real gem in Kent!
I suppose with a name like the travel man of kent we should expect these lesser known gems from you. Expected or not great stuff as ever I do like to see places I wouldn't usually stumble on myself
Cool
Perfect soundtrack for Diesel!
Great video you guys looked like you was certainly having a good day. Very lucky to have a visit i have heard abit about the railway from our mutual friend quite the collection of locos. Hopefully i can bag a visit one day
Great video. Freddie’s new whistle sounds lovely, much better than the London Underground whistle he used to have.
Definatley got RH&DR vibe going and sounds wonderful, would love to hear going through the valley 👌🏻
If you can venture down to north yorkshire and visit us in Harrogate at Harrogate model engineering soho yy I'm sure we could arrange a day whereby you prep, light up, run andaintain a loco.... Choice of a feldbahn 0-4-0, a stafford 0-4-0 (x2), a general Gordon 0-6-0 or an Adams radial 4-4-2 🤷♂️ I'll find you on socials or you find me and drop a line!
Thankyou so much for the offer! Will look to come in the new year at somepoint so will speak to you over facebook to organise it 👌🏻
Owning a number of station road steam locos (all variants except the latest mazeppa) have to admit that both the 0-6-0 and with inside wheels and outside counterbalances sure looks bonny!
Has a wonderful whistle and good bark I must admit, defo looks the part with the custom tipper wagons 👌🏻
Brilliant video. The old Collie that bumbled around in front of the trains passed away 3 days after this. It's lovely to see him
Glad you enjoyed it Bruce that's what's important to me! Such a shock that he's gone, was a right character on the day stopping trains and always asking for fusses when he could 👌🏻
Omg i know that place did my pts there
Small world ey? Hope you enjoyed the video and relived some memories of you doing your PTS!
I go there a lot I am freinds with a few of the volunteers there
It's a wonderful place, very underrated and needs to be heard of! Hopefully the video helps in spreading the word 👌🏻
@ yea I like it that way very peaceful
Somewhere I had never heard of where is it? will have to go in search of it when I'm down that way. The eurotunnel model is very impressive, if they was able to get a fair bit of it operational it would be quite something to see. The full size mock up loco looks quite interesting. Im intrigued for the next video i think i know the line your visiting but will have to wait and see.
It's literally just behind the Eurotunnel Terminal in a small village, you wouldn't expect it to be there either! The Eurotunnel layout doest work and has 3 tracks that are operational but it takes alot of work and cleaning to make sure it does so only select days buy will be back for that 👌🏻
Elham is pronounced 'ee-lam'.
Apologies didn't know this! 🤣
The only problem with this site is finding it, even with satnav it was difficult. I had often wondered what had happened to the Eurotunnel layout when the museum closed. The site is well worth the effort to find and a welcome cup of tea in the cafe yes please.
Yes Certainly, the council could help by putting signs up leading to the place to make it easier for everyone to find & you beat paying £4 for what you see!
@@TravelManOfKent it looks like you enjoyed driving the mock up steam engine
@eliotreader8220 I did, felt like the real thing! Just a shame bug railway don't have this sort thing at one of their stations as it's for all ages 👌🏻
I went for the miniature steam weekend this year and I will be going again next year
Yeah defo will be going to that next year after speaking to them about it, too good to turn down!
Somewhere I haven't heard of before. Can I ask what you use for editing these shorts?
For both shorts and long form video I use Youcut there's a free version and then you can pay I think 11.99 for a years subscription for the pro version, so easy to use!
wasnt that 73 at the barry railway ? and gatex stock ?
Your thinking of 73118 which is still there but without the coupling extension for eurostar rescues & I believe this is the stock that was based at barry aswell!
@@TravelManOfKent yup 118 ... juts looked at my photos .. dont think it still there .. its all owned by tfw now .. and is used as storage for the new bemus ...
🙂😎
Great video, thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it! not my best but I only decided on the day 🤣 more to come innthe future as I love combustion of all kinds 😄
You can't beat the purr of a merlin engine. Such a lovely sound
Definitely, when hearing it that close up I couldn't help but get a little emotional about it to be honest. Just hits you where it hurts!
@TRAVELMANOFKENT they are quite the spectical. I was lucky enough to be at Duxford quite a few years ago when they recreated a Douglas Bader big wing with the largest flight of spitfires and hurricanes. Epic sight and sound
Wow that must of been amazing to see, I remember a few years ago over kent they had the biggest collection of DC-3s flying over for the WW2 memorial I think in 2020?
@TRAVELMANOFKENT ah yes I think I recall that happening. I do always find it interesting how railway people seem to be also taken with classic aircraft or vehicles in general aswell, suppose its a engineering heritage thing maybe.
@kineticrail when you grow up with Thomas, Fred Dibnah and Topgear amongst others you can't go wrong! It's must be an engineering perspective as I love all things combustion 👌🏻
I saw the 73 when it lived at the old GCR Finmere station site. Was given a tour of the engine room by the then owner. Bought for £1 from Eurostar, but they had to pay the transport costs. It had a fault on one cylinder, hence the price, that was easily remedied by its ex' RAF engineer owner. The group who owned the site had high hopes of developing it with a line extending south colse to Calvert. However, HS2 takes a route throgh there, and the site is now obliterated.
Wow I love hearing history like that, such a shame it didn't happen but what a wonderful loco it is, hope it stays the way it is as its one of a kind now!
It's certainly unusual with its drawgear. The loco moved from Finmere for storage to, nearby in Bicester, Graven Hill the former MOD site (last actual army staffed and run railway unit). The Bus group mentioned had a bit of history with the Kent and East Sussex railway, hence the Finmere set up.
6989, become a permanent member of the fleet!
I thought it was only on loan from the buckingham railway centre? 🤔
Hello mate, have you ever been to bodmin Railway and I am not a volunteer there? I am a volunteer from faversham miniature railway
Yes I went there a few years back for a gala in May 2022 when staying in boscastle! Managed to get a ride on the clay van train with a 08 taking the train, Oh wow will look out for you next time I'm up at FMR or come say hello!
Lovely, some great memories there. I must try and get back there sometime,
Please do!
Great vid! Will have to visit sometime 😊
Thanks man! Yeah it's definitely a place I'd like to keep visiting in the future, got a good gradient back into the station so perfect! Linesiding pretty much anywhere you like 👌🏻
@TRAVELMANOFKENT nice thrash aswell with the class 31 👌
Guy who did some of the metal work and construction on 11103 here! It’s funny you put the Mavis face on her since the skirts and cow catchers were actually donated from the old engine that used to sport that face in the Thomas event days. Took some restoration work and adjustments but they turned out great. Thanks for the awesome video of all our teams resto work over the year. Glad you had a good time!
Was fantastic, for a 1st time visit was astounded at what is offered for a day out, will be coming back in the new year for some more!
Amazing work, looked fabulous in the dusky sun!
@ sad I wasn’t able to attend since I work full time +weekends outside of volunteering so thanks to your vid I got a taste of what I missed, have to agree it looked like an amazing experience, and we have more to come next year I’m sure.
Great vid of a great little railway. Thanks for your effort.
Appreciate the comment there, its fantastic & puts the big railways to shame!
They actually have the real life mavis
They do! just need to attach the face that me Jack & Kinetic Rail found!
Oh no it's not, the is one set at ecclesborune railway
True but not operational, one coach is a cafe and the other in model railway exhibition
The fact they just have a Canadian Pacific caboose is crazy to me, it absolutely dwarfs all the British stock around it.
Yeah certainly does! what a brilliant experience it was though, I'd highly reccomened sitting in the top dock part as the seats were very comfy 👌🏻
I do find it find peculiar that the Mavis face is there, especially when youv'e got that one 03 there, mangapps haven't had a Thomas event in a good while, I wonder if they brought the face just they they can sometimes put it on that shunter for fun.
Yeah I did have a look to see if it was used for their Thomas events but no recollection of it, possibly like you say the Jolly Family have brought in on the intent of doing a faces day, couldn't help but put Rik Mayalls alongside it as that meme comes up every soft often 🤣 Thanks for watching!
Great video I've walked that line many times. It was ropey I'm surprised the trains didn't de rail
Thanks man! Yeah I was thinking that to be fair, must have had to go really slow!
hi, this is a good railway, top marks for saving a class 302 unit, wil go down next summer to visit,at least the 31's are taking it easy now enjoying the countryside
Yeah & can't be a good old thrash in the country side!
Some great footage here, toughly enjoyed watching. Thank you! 👍
Ah Great, glad you enjoyed the footage just hope plenty of people see this and think "I better go see what this place is about"
Excellent video, glad you enjoyed your visit to this gem of a railway in the wilds of Essex. I enjoy the mix of the vlog style and the running shots. I did chuckle to see you put the mavis face and rid mayall moment.
Glad you enjoyed it mate & same for yours! Was a good laugh and can't beat talking about trains all day, glad to have finally met you and hope to see you soon! *keep me updated regarding the open day 😉
@TRAVELMANOFKENT will do, when i know the eor events plan for next year maybe we can get something organised.
@kineticrail I like the sound of that!
Amazing video!
This was my first ever video!
Amazing video content.
Glad you think so!
