- Transformers brought Soundwave into our lives in 1984 and he continues to be one of the most popular Decepticons ever. Well, not so much with Autobots. In 2015 a Platinum Edition Soundwave, which also celebrated the Year of the Goat (Greatest of All Time?), was produced with special deco and included his 5 original cassette minions. Captain Kyle reviews this special edition set to see if you might just want to add it to your collection.
Soundwave is the Decepticon Communications Officer and both container and leader of the cassette squad, which includes Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Ravage, Rumble, and Frenzy. This Year of the Goat Platinum Edition Soundwave includes those cassettes and also has a Megatron in gun form, an energon cube (empty) to attach to his chest, the scanner grid, his arm scanner, his weapon, and piledrivers for Rumble and Frenzy. Modeled after the Masterpiece Soundwave, this very cool figure is a great addition to any Soundwave lover’s collection. Captain Kyle goes through it bit by bit.

I agree with you! Rumble is blue and Frenzy is red!
That was a REALLY solid Ironhide impersonation. Kudos.
Thanks! Ironhide I can do pretty well. My Prime needs work.
0:55 but the women call you Big Daddy. 😂
Yes, and then they find out I'm not a Micromaster...
Funny thing happened, I called Hasbro customer service for a replacement missile (which I found) knowing full well they don’t have individual parts and just send random "replacements of equivalent value". I got a free Platinum Soundwave out of it 😅.
Mid 2010s Hasbro really came up with some of the strangest things
I'm not sure if it was intentional but the clear parts make the tape player mode look like one of those clear electronics they use in jails & prions. Mostly, it lacks the obvious visible electronics. Techmoan has a video from a couple years ago about those types of electronics but they're clear-cased so contraband can't be hidden in them.
I have a vintage 80s Soundwave cassette player coming. The seller says it works.
A carbon fiber version should be next , cassettes
What if soundwave went plaid
He could catch Spaceball One...
Blaster was a Boombox who was an Autobot😬
I want him to go GOLD! :(_ _ _
A third party one did...
They'll probably release a different color for every Transformers using the same mold eventually. Easy way to milk money from fans
@@ToySpotlite I'm holdin' out for a shiny G1 man! :)
Should've put some gold on the head
Can he do cybertron lamp mode?
With a little imagination and a lot of luck. Maybe.
Being predominantly clear plastic is more than sufficient reason to avoid this set like the plague. Durability is garbage - a thing I had the firsthand misfortune to learn the hard way. To be fair, at the time I got it from Amazon in 2017, this was the cheapest option for a Masterpiece Soundwave and his Minions. (Didn't help that the THF KO had a habit of selling out constantly...)
So what made me say that I'd avoid this set? Well...:
• Barely held up a year before the bits on the legs that hinge into place for tape player mode snapped off...
• One of the birds got decapitated, and they both are hanging on by life support at their wing hinges... (I use the gold one as Laserbeak and the pale yellow one that got decapped is Buzzsaw)
• Rumble & Frenzy both hate havin' their torsos fully extended and are likely to collapse back in; but this was straight out the box, so likely a QC failure...
• Ravage, the one Tape Minion whose regular MP is said to be ultimate break bait, is holding up perfectly FINE!! 😮😳🤯 Seriously, only real flaw is loose paws, and that was a thing straight out the box...
• The stock on Megatron snapped off. This was the first thing to break in this entire set...
I'm surprised that you forgot to get out Ravage's nose (a LOT of reviewers tend to forget this during transformation) and the camera on the heads of the birds (which on my copy, Laserbeak's doesn't come up all the way and Buzzsaw's won't work at all).
I thought Ravage's nose looked wrong. Yeah, I forgot. And honestly, didn't really look that closely at the bird heads. Thanks for letting me know.
@@ToySpotlite Yeah, it's really easy to miss. The flip-up cameras are a nod to the 86 Movie where Laserbeak was doing his usual spying on the Autobots; a bigger nod to the 86 Movie that's even easier to miss (I think you got this one, I'd have to watch again) is that you can connect the two sets of piledrivers and the hand sensor attachment, and then connect the whole thing to Soundwave's tape player mode to have an approximation of the data cable he linked up to the computer in order to "play back Laserbeak's findings".
That clear plastic myth! 🤦🏽♂️
If were your Peeps...does that make you the chocolate Bunny with those yellow eyes? XD_ _ _
Of course. If you stare too long into my yellow eyes, I take your marshmallow soul...
@@ToySpotlite I'm hearing the mumblings of the Japanese Headmasters cartoon Mindwipe! lol
Every single Chinese "Year of the (insert animal name here)" figure has been a complete and utter waste of plastic. They still look AWFUL, which is why must of us didn't bother buying them.
I would mostly agree with that, except I think the year of the horse Optimus prime looks great!
