- Bobby Sykes worked for Marty Robbins for nearly a quarter of a century. No mean vocalist himself, he had releases issued on Columbia records as well as later recording under the name Bob Bishop for ABC records where he had a medium sized hit with 'Roses To Reno.' This song is of course, a re-write of Streets of Laredo and over here in the UK it was covered by a singer by the name of Houston Wells (hardly being his real name I doubt!) and his version was a minor hit. Oh, but being British we may not have been able to stomach the word 'Hangman' so the title was changed to 'Only The Heataches.' Can you believe that?!

One of Marty Robbins famous backing singers, chosen as he had a great voice of his own.
Bobby was more of a natural baritone bass than anything else. When he sang in his most natural register he sounded so much like Red Foley that Red Foley did a double take (they were friends). His range was phenomenal and his ability to harmonize and blend allowed him to make a good living without being the star.
Also Bobby Sykes had a great voice and I also love to hear him sing.Thank you Alan you got a very good taste of good country music.Gretings from me and the Netherlands.
terrific singing love Bobby his voice is simply magical
Hard to get hard to lose lucky womananythingsmi t ouch come to gold
Melody of, Laredo. As I walked out in the streets of Laredo.
I love his songwriting
What a voice. Beautiful song.Thank you for posting this.
Great singer
great singer and actor
Interesting history of that old Houston Wells version. I recall listening to Only the heartaches, by Houston and being suitably impressed I bought an LP of his that covered other country songs. I wasn't that impressed and took the record back to the shop and swapped it for Johnny Cash Ring of Fire LP
Good singer
he was a great singer almost as good as marty. i loved to hear him and don winters sing. we miss him!
brilliant
Great singer on his own or with Marty Robbins
the music is from streets of laredo. he was a good singer.
@tarquin45 .... do you have the song "Roses to Reno" ... it's beautiful but I don't find it here in Belgium ... I'm looking for your answer .... grts CBke
I always thought this was Marty Robbins.
Sounds a lot like "Streets of Laredo"
5*****
I think Bobby would readily admit, fine singer that he was, that he just wasn't in Marty's league, but very few other singers were.
If Bobby hadnt been an extraordinary singer, Marty wouldnt have kept him around for 25 years........
this is your opinion because like you said, it’s what you think
marty robbins is my favorite singer of all time. no one can sing better than him and no one ever will. bobby and don were good but no one is better than marty where u got the idea that i though bobby was better than marty i do not know. ray price. never liked him johnny cash will never be replaced or compared. sorry for the confusion
Was Bobby Sykes one of the two backing singers that sang with Marty on the excellent black and white TV footage of El Paso that can be seen on RUclips. Its set in a barn with lots of straw on the floor, and it features the excellent guitarist Grady Martin in the background.
you sound insecure and desperate to make a point
Bobby Sykes was good singer he and don winters were Marty Robbins backup singers
Too bad the audio is fucked so we only hear from left ear
@CJJ51 no one will ever be in marty's league as a singer. my favorite singer of all time. bobby sykes and don winters were good but only shadows compared to marty robbins.!
i don’t think so pal. marty was just the figurehead
@@learsinamorrellik1655 you are obviously no music lover. The voice that Marty had was one of a kind . Bobby and don were good but Marty was the best !
@@grannydyess you’re obviously giving your opinion you just have your own nasty way of going about it
@@grannydyess i don’t think you know anything about love because you come from a place of hate with your words
only one ear works well on this song. too bad. bit annoying,,
bobby was better than marty because not only was he just as good as a singer, he also had the balls to stand up for what’s right. marty was a sellout
