Marty Robbins Nobody's Darling But Mine

- This comes from a Bill Mack radio show and has Marty singing one of his idol Gene Autry's songs 'Nobody's Darlin But Mine.' Many other artists have recorded this song, Tex Ritter, Slim Whitman, Merle Haggard, Webb Pierce, Eddy Arnold, The Louvin Brothers, Frank Ifield and Leona Williams amongst others. Marty never recorded this Jimmie Davis penned song and I hope former Governor Davis did actually write it as apparently he didn't after all write 'You Are My Sunshine', but bought it off of somebody else. You can check it out on Wikipedia thus 'He is associated with several popular songs, most notably "You Are My Sunshine," which was designated an official state song of Louisiana in 1977. He claimed that he wrote the song while attending graduate school at LSU, but research indicates he bought it from another performer Paul Rice, who had recorded it with his brother Hoke, who recorded together as the Rice Brothers under Paul Rice's name. The practice of buying songs from their composers was a common practice during the 1930s through the 1960s. Some writers in need of cash often sold tunes to others.'
Country (& Western) music died the day Marty passed from this life to the next. Indeed, he was a perfectionist with phrasing, a talented musician, and above all an endearing showman and entertainer. I saw him perform three months before God took him to join the other C&W greats...it was a performance I'll never forget.

How great. I have never heard Marty Robbins sing this song before.
Yes truly one of the greats. There are so many many country and western greats. I'm so grateful that I can still listen to them in 2020.
Marty can sing anything and make it great.
Marty is one of the very best Ballad ,Country & Western singers of all time ...I saw him @ The Cave Supper Club in Vancouver ...He sang well but didn't interact with the audience between songs ...I play his songs often as he was a true master ...
A great unique voice and great guitar picker.A real old country classic. Thanks for posting.

Barbara gray commenting ,I am 88 years old and I remember my mother singing this when I was a child.brings tears to my eyes.
My father used to sing this song to me, kinda like a lullaby. I love it.
Boy, the way Marty Robbins can hold out the end note, in fact, all the notes, shows wonderful voice control and definitive involvement with his texts. He just breathes in what he needs, never too much, a secret to good singing.
Tim.

Greetings from IRELAND 😉
My father used to sing this a lot - he died in 2006 at 83.
He sang a verse that I haven't been able to find in anyone's recording.
As best as I recall it went like this;
♫My father is dead and in Heaven,
my mother has gone there I know
Sister has gone to meet mother
Where I'll go nobody knows.♫

Does that ring a bell for anyone?

Dear friend,

Thank you for telling me of your appreciation of a Marty's talents, which he worked so hard to develop and preserve. As is indicated below, I always believed that Governor Davis was the man behind this song and others cited below. Perhaps Emmylou bought the copyright, although you may be alluding to an excellent version of the song performed by Ms. Harris.
At any rate, we both share the same opinion about Marty Robbins, and I would add my admiration for the musicians who supported him.
JIMMIE Davis great version as well.
MERLE HAGGARD DOES IT
Love, 💕💕😘
my dad liked nob odes darling but mine
Wikipedia tells you about the writer of 'You Are My Sunshine' and 'It Makes No Difference Now' if you'd like to check it out hillbilly.
I remember Marty singing 'It Makes No Difference' on his Spotlight Show and Faron Young commenting to him 'That's An Old Jimmie Davis Song.' When you think how much Davis made out of the two songs.............!
Kjempe fin musikk 👍👍
Marty had a great voice! He was also a good showman. I like many of his songs, but The Master’s Call is a good one because it has a Christian message. Too bad we don’t hear anything like that today on country radio (which I don’t listen to). Seems like today’s singers all sound alike, and all they want to sing about is beer, girls, pickup trucks, etc.
im looking for eddy Arnold singing this but no luck
❤️
tarquin. Thank you for saying the almost unknown truth about Governor Jimmy
Davis.. as I had mentioned to you on one of your sites that Jimmy Davis
did not write " It Makes No Difference Now".. Floyd Tillman wrote it and told
me who wrote " You Are My Sunshine" I cannot remember the name..We
were in the car driving back from the LoneStarStateHall of Fame and
he told me all about it. The newer recordings and writings Floyd shares
his name with Jimmy as co-writers. made a deal as co-writers
I love Marty Robbins songs but I think Frank Ifield version is tops
I thought Jimmie Davis penned this song.
governor jimmie davis wrote the song.
Who wrote this song? Merle or marty?
who,,,
My Mother is dead in heaven?? hmmmmm. Is anyone ALIVE THERE? IF NOT, I AIN'T GOIN!!
