I always forget that 7 came out in 2011. I can't beleive it was that long ago. Makes me feel old. I still think of it as a revolutionary new mario kart with the gliders and kart customization, lol

I think it's because the glider respawn hasn't been used in WRs over a decade, so to have a chance of knowing about it, you pretty much would have had to get the game in the first year that it came out

Yeah, it's not a major glitch, but it's a really unique part of this games history. I don't think I did any time trials at the time either even though i had the game lol

I remember finding this trick growing up. I played time trials on this stage and would often be confused as to why people kept magically appearing in front of me. It was until I watched one of the top ghost replays I found out why and tried it out myself. My quickest thought was "could I do this in online races?" And then proceed to do so.
I don't actually remember how I found out about it, but I may have also done it in online races 😅

I remember going against the fastest time trail on the list and discovering the glitch for the first time by watching the ghost. It was epic!! lol. My pb is 1:06 but hope to drop it down 🥲
Yeah I'm honestly kind of surprised that Nintendo actually sent out Spotpass ghosts that used the glitch, that seems like the opposite of what they would do today tbh

Maka Wuhu is also, in my opinion, the *easiest* shortcut in all of Mario Kart. I literally got it first try after booting up my cartridge years ago.

Yeah, both of the two glitches were (and still are in the case of the first/big one) some of the easiest in the franchise, I think anyone could do them

In fact, I got the impression that many people in VS preferred to use the second glitch. It is all due to the item(⚡🐢etc).

Yeah, there are still some people who use this online today (in certain situations), since it is a very effective strategy for avoiding items

It remember managing to snag world record on time trials using this glitch. That lasted like a week 😂
The "leaderboard" on the 3ds is actually just a random selection of ghosts nintendo sent out periodically, it wasn't an actual leaderboard. I included the full (known) WR history on the track from the glitch's discovery to late 2012 (and also at one point briefly showed up until about 2018), so if you know your time and when you set it i could check to see if it was actually a WR. But it's really common for people to think they had the WR on this track because of the way the Spotpass ghosts work

tbf idk if i like calling both of the respawns "glitches". The first one is a glitch imo since you leave the checkpoint range when doing it, meaning the game places you at the incorrect respawn point. The second respawn you dont exit any checkpoint range, this is just how the devs designed the track and its respawns, since its such a long gliding section it just ends up respawning you really far ahead, and people in the early days clearly didnt compare the time saved vs. not doing it properly, leading them to assume it was faster when it actually wasnt.
It actually was faster at the time. I didn't go into it in depth since it didn't really fit with how I wanted to make the video, but Adro used a slightly different strategy on the glider compared to what had been done before. But prior to him discovering that, it actually was faster to respawn.
"Glitch" is also our name for the shortcut category, so we pretty much just call any respawn that saves time a glitch regardless of the checkpoints. I think most people would agree that you shouldn't be allowing people to intentionally respawn in the no-glitch category. If it was discovered today it would likely just be considered a blue/shock dodge strat, but because it used to be used in runs, it's an obsoleted glitch

I certainly didn’t forget it. I definitely never recorded it because I was just some 11 year old kid playing around, but I swear I had the North America server record on this track at one point. I absolutely loved this track.
The game didn't have in-game leaderboards so it'd be hard to say. It is definitely a really cool track though

Yeah it's because of how I made it lol. I considered just removing the coins from the track, but I think it looks better with the coins there even if they do occasionally get picked up :p

@@f1wrep The 3ds never actually had an online leaderboard, it's a common misconception. Nintendo periodically sent out new times through spotpass, but it was never meant to be an accurate leaderboard

@@f1wrep yeah, dw, even after I found that out I still thought I was 3rd at one point because the best times I could find online were way off the actual best times XD. But I put quite a bit of time researching this track in order to make sure the timeline I have in this video is very accurate

Yeah, a lot of people thought they had the WR because of the spotpass ghosts, I think Nintendo messed up a little with that one lol. Still, using the glitch at the start of the game made everyone feel like a god, it's one of the best things that could have happened for this game

There still is an online scene, although it's much smaller now that it's on custom servers. Old online was really cool though.
Hmmm... If it was on this track, that can be done really easily through hacking, so on their screen they just drove to the end but on yours they'd respawn. I can't think of any other potential answer, although it depends on what year it was

One question, why the playeres chose to play in 1st person?
Almost nobody actually plays in 1st person, it's that the game only gives the option to view the replay in either 1st person or a cinematic camera. We have mods these days to allow us to record them from a normal 3rd person POV, but that didn't exist for most of the older WRs

@@yoklete TAS is tool assisted speedrun and TAF is tool assisted freerun. Basically one is for speed and one is just to show off

@@Kylra yeah, I'm not sure where you live, but Otawax discovered the glitch and set his 1:12 the day before the game released in North America, and only 2 days after the game was released. There's a very small chance that you did, but there's a LOT of people who think they had the WR because of being misled by the spotpass ghosts

How long does it take u to create a vid?
It depends on the video. I'd estimate this one at about 120 hours of work just because I was having to learn things about editing while making it, but that process should get faster as I make more videos which is nice. Research can take a while though

@@Poter24 They played in 3rd person, the replay system in this game is just weird. The only options are first person or a cinematic camera. We have mods these days that allow us to view the runs from the original perspective, but all of these runs were from 2012 or earlier so obviously they didn't have those then

Hello there I don’t know if you’ll se this but I was wondering how do you get started with time trial like Mk7 and Mk8d. I want to try them casualy and don’t know how to start it seems really fun though cause I’m only allowed to play offline and offline mario kart is way to easy now and isint that fun.
i'm not entirely sure where the main community is for 8dx, but the time trial community has it's own discord server at discord.gg/8yF85KnFrp which is a good place to start. In terms of things to learn immediately, both games are more focused on just getting better racing lines, although delay drifts are a really important part of this game (Which i explained at some point during this video actually lol). But that's pretty much the only thing to learn when starting out

Is it really a glitch or just normal respawn points?
The respawn point is intended, however the mk7 community has its categories split into no glitch/glitch (instead of shortcut/non shortcut like some other communities), so even though it's where it was meant to respawn you, it doesn't make sense to allow people to intentionally respawn to save time in a no glitch category. I also doubt Nintendo intended for it to save time, so it could also be argued to be a glitch in that sense 🤷♀️
