For a small community that admits they don’t see crimes of this magnitude they’ve had this case air tight from the beginning!! I applaud the efforts bringing this to trial to get an unbiased jury 👏🏼
Can someone please explain to me how did they come to suspect him or his family? They mentioned that they looked at his father's trash and then get a hit that the DNA on the sheath is the son of the DNA in the trash. But what made them even suspect this family and look at their trash? Am I missing something? Was it genetic genealogy that led them there or do they mean the father's DNA in the trash is the genetic genealogy? Thanks
@@timoooo7320 yes it was initially genetic genealogy since he wasn’t in the database. they then connected this to the dna in the trash and found a 99.9998% match. many other things also linked the suspect to the crimes, some of which we do know such as the vehicle, phone signal data & witness accounts and much of which we don’t know yet which will most likely come out during trial…
@@timoooo7320 they ran a search on cars in washington and Bryan’s was the only one, and only 10 miles away. on the video, there’s no front plate on the car. it doesn’t look like it’s manufactured onto it, that means that car has to be registered to a state that doesn’t have a front plate law or else they would have pulled them over and have records of a bad registration. believe it or not they make different bumpers for every state depending on if they have the front license plate law. i live in a state with no plate law but my car was manufactured in a state that had them (I wanted a specific color and model), so it has a spot for one. everyone else in my state doesn’t. washington and idaho have them. his car was registered in pennsylvania where there is no front plate law. all of those facts combined led them to dig in his trash.

Also, a convenience store had cameras and police asked all the businesses to check them for that week and notify police or call them if they had cameras. I think law enforcement has done a wonderful job. They didn’t deserve the criticism they received. So glad he was caught!
This case is a reminder to those who were So Upset they weren't given information (excluding family of course) social media isn't where you hold a court of law. If you were 1 of those people complaining about information, I hope you learned your lesson....you don't deserve info....the court & law enforcement do what they do For A Reason.
I am so glad that the victim's families did not have to wait decades in order to find out who committed this heinous crime against their loved ones on top of the tragic circumstances that they are already having to cope with.
This is just absolutely terrifying .. terrible for the victims who lost their lives, and terrible for the surviving roommates that'll forever be traumatized. I can't even fathom the sheer terror of what they saw that morning. Gut wrenching.
Exactly. Thank you for this take. So many people blame the survivors. I can’t IMAGINE the terror trauma fear and absolute disassociation they experienced.

Police had their guy from the getgo, but they had to be very careful hos they built their case to arrest him because they werent going just for an arrest but for a conviction. This is excellent police workm These guys should get textbooks written about their investigative work.
@@MB-yz2vc that's an assumption. The Sheath could have been stolen. If it's his it would ofcourse have his DNA on it. What's missing is HIS DNA on the bodies or HIS blood DNA on the scene.
I give huge props to the Moscow PD handling this case the way that they have thus far. The fact that they reached out for additional assistance from Idaho State Police and the FBI from day one and kept the information that they knew close to the vest while they gathered the evidence to ensure that this guy was arrested and is ultimately brought to justice is laudable. I am sure that a lot more information will come to light throughout the course of this investigation, but we won’t be privy to that information until this case goes to trial. I hope that Maddie, Kaylee, Xana, and Ethan receive the justice that they deserve. My thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones.
Yeah it really looks like they did a good job so far, we'll know more later. But clearly they're very confident they got the right guy as they arrested him right away they didn't even like question him first or anything like that
@therealz 360z what do you mean he technically would be ‘ at large if not apprehended yet an you gotta consider of course whoever did it is gonna be watching the news and they made it seem as if they had no idea so he could build more confidence in how he would move and go about his days having confidence knowing 7 weeks and it’s on tv non stop ‘killer still at large ‘ etc whatever you’re not gonna be on edge as much and paranoid as if you were to have the investigators announce that they are ‘getting good leads’ and ‘closing in ‘ on a suspect like cmon it’s pretty simple
I think today more than ever before, law enforcement needs to NOT share any info with public. Armchair detectives on social media need to be reminded they need to back off. Especially when they directly or indirectly feel they have the right to accuse innocent people.
The one we need to hear from is Mr. Kohberger. He is the one who is obviously being accused. It appears he will be given the chance to speak. The only way to get closure and information on the motive is to let the truth come out. Mr. Kohberger has an excellent education and deserves the right to be heard. This will be my last comment on this tragic event for awhile. I give my most sincere and heartfelt condolences to all the victims. 😔
This is a really good point. There are so many quacks that jumped to conclusions here. I think the DNA evidence is really weak, but the video evidence and cellphone evidence is really good. It's still possible the DNA evidence was planted, but they may have wanted to get the death penalty here. Either way the guy will be killed in prison. It's just the way prison works.
As much grief that was given the Moscow PD Chief , this guy played this poker hand as good as you can play it. He and all involved deserve an apology from the all social media clowns.
How about the family members he lied to? It would have made the public feel better if they knew the police had a clue. How would saying they had suspects have jeopardized the case?! It on thing to hold back evidence another to lie to everyone! Not good Police work!
@@yvettepaulson4967 it’s all part of keeping a tight investigation and playing psychology against the suspect. They got the obvious perp why be unhappy?
A criminology expert who handled his murder weapon/sheath WITHOUT GLOVES, drove HIS OWN car to and from the crime scene, and left a witness ALIVE after already killing four others? Brilliant moves Einstein!
left the killing knife sheath right at the crime scene and drove to that house over 10 + times? wtf? he might as well left his driver license and contact info for the police.
The fact that he has never looked surprised to be in custody and is calm and collect is proof enough for me. If I was drug out of my home in the early morning hours and then told I was being arrested for 4 homicides that I had no part in, i would be screaming from the mountain tops that I was innocent. I certainly wouldn't look comfortable under arrest for murdering 4 young adults.
@@treehuggerdeluxe5598 I guess he intrepet that as wearing gloves (basic), but he didn't wear hat, so his hair could still fall off on the crime scene.
I'm not sure, if I was innocent, I would follow protocol knowing that it would all sort itself out soon. Not saying he is innocent but his reaction to his arrest tells me nothing.
I'm 72 and, despite what I've seen all my life, I still can't fathom that people like this exist (assuming he's guilty of this crime) though they can be found all over the world throughout time. The amount of selfishness in him is way beyond comprehension as is the arrogance to think that he won't be caught, even valuing that crime over his freedom, to depersonalize others to a maximum extent, to not see his anger for what it really is, blaming his victims for his feelings instead of himself.
I still cant believe how much damning evidence was just in the affidavit just for an arrest. They must have sooooo much more evidence. This POS made alot of mistakes during this horrible act and theyre gonna seal the trail up when it goes to court.
My dad years ago worked on the Jeffery McDonald case the Army doctor who slaughtered his pregnant wife and 2 small baby girls and blamed it on hippies who broke in. My father said These Psychopath 's have absolutely No Remorse. They believe they can talk there way out of anything and we peons will just believe their story. I am so thankful today with advances in DNA and with circumstantial evidence that this guy will go down quickly and not torment these to much longer. Jeffery Mcdonald was found guilty but his trial went on forever.
There was a movie called fatal vision based on that incident, terrified me and fascinated me at the same time, true crime chills me. So much crazier than what we can make up.
Really sad case, and our thoughts are with the families of the people lost in this horrible tragedy. If he is proven guilty, he deserves the maximum sentence the law allows.
Folks, I have had two very traumatic incidents in my life that literally put me to sleep. I am known to be very good in an emergency, but in these two incidents, the trauma was so great that my brain just shut down and I went to sleep for several hours. Once I awoke, I began to process what had occured and took appropriate action from them. The brain only lets us deal with trauma in increments that save us from mentally shattering.
1) Why didn't the roommate call 911? 2) Why didn't he kill her? 3) He stabbed 4 people, didn't he leave a blood trail? Didn't she notice it? 4) If she heard crying and saw a masked man, at minimum why not let the roommates know what's going on?
Only two possibilities: 1- She brush it off ( it’s a party house drama and weird events are the norm but she would never in her wildest dreams would think murder was happening. 2- She went into victim’s mode (she hide, kept quiet out of fear literally froze till she felt safe next day) turning her phone on would’ve make notifications sounds.
An absence of information can be just as indicative of truth as the presence - the fact that the cell phone very conspicuously goes dead, then alive again on either side of the time of the murders is just as significant as a consistent pinging.
@@cameronmueller they said it was a small piece. My assumption is explanations can be made if he was in the house prior to the murders. Phone dying is a solid explanation unless it can be shown it was turned off and back on without a low battery. I assume this can be done somehow
@@cameronmueller DNA can be explaned. For example someone who hates him goes thru his trash (like FBI did) finds something puts it on the sheath, and leaves sheath placed conveniently for police to find. If he was that sloppy to leave sheath, than rest of the apartment should be full of his DNA. I do not say he didn't do it, but DNA thing is easily explaned. Someone said that he was very tough on grades, it could be possibly one of his students. This case is not that simple, whoever did it he/she knew those people very good...
The authorities did a fantastic job from the very get go in this case. All considered it’s amazing how quickly everything came together to bring it to this point. Please give credit where it’s due.
God bless those police who caught the devil eyed murderer. No show of remorse but those spirits of the departed will haunt you for the rest of you life, devil killer.
Brian has some regrets: 1.He should have worn a space suit so as not to leave any DNA behind. 2. He should have worn shoes that are 2 or 3 sizes bigger than his feet. (He tried to get in a shoe 3 sizes smaller but he couldn't do it....something he learned from gloves in an infamous trial a few decades ago.) 4. He should hsve used the bus or walked to the location. 5. He should have left the knife sheath at home. 6. He should have left his phone at home. 7. He should have avoided all the cameras. Too bad he won't get to tell his students of his mistakes, we will!
So sorry for the loss of the families involved. It’s terrible, and I will pray for you all 🙏🏼 The LEOs did amazing work putting everything together, and getting this guy. If he is found guilty, he needs the worst, exactly what he put these people through.
Thankfully, technology makes getting away with these types of crimes much more difficult in today’s world. This case most likely would’ve went unsolved if it took place 25-30 + years ago. All the key evidence was tech driven.
That would be so freaky to know that you were in the house while four other people were murdered and the murderer walked right past you when he was leaving. Creepy.
But what would dm motive be for even telling police that she saw someone at all? If she was involved, she would have said she slept through it and saw nothing.
Andy, that just proves you've never been in a situation like the roomate faced. She no doubt was too scared of what she would see, if she left her room. Besides, for all she knew he stepped outside to pee and was coming back to kill her.
As a former Marine myself, a USMC knife/sheath is so sacred. It's so hard to imagine that someone like him with his knowledge about criminology would leave such an important large piece of evidence behind right on the bed. He "walked" out of house, so he was not in a rush. I find it so strange that the killer allowed two survivors unscathed. The report says his cellphone signal was picked up 12 times in the area of the crime scene likely because he carefully surveyed the house, which means that he counted the number of people in the home before entering yet he leaves out and doesn't even harm two of the occupants? It makes me wonder if maybe he had an accomplice or maybe he has a relationship with one of the "survivors". If the house is dark, how did she get such a good view of his bushy eyebrows and why would a smart guy like him not wear a hat or something to cover his face? Just seems fishy.
There was another roommate besides the couple on the first floor. There is another bedroom on the second floor, if she had been on the first she wouldnt have been able to see him leaving. Dude only thought he was smart.
Your statements are correct about a USMC knife/sheath is so sacred.! Could you tell me about when a marine receives/or can obtain a USMC knife/sheath please.? I know this is a woman question. Please be patient with me a non-military female.! You are right if it was so dark how could anyone see bushy eyebrows.? The answer is no one could have seen bushy eyebrows.! She knew him or her boyfriend did. Or possibly they all knew him.!
@Phyllis Hannah my guess about the eyebrows is that he was back-lit. Most people leave on some sort of light when the go to bed. I have a small antique lamp that you can either light up top and bottom parts at the same time but I always just leave the bottom portion lit because it's a really soft light. Not to mention, I always have my light on above my stove in the kitchen. That's just my guess ❤️
As a retired LEO, excellent investigation work. Sadly, the parents want information and arrest immediately. The media DOES NOT help. Excellent work. The police had the responsibility to protect the living victims in the home. Plus the responsibility to arrest the offender for murder to bring the victim justice. Now, the courts (prosecutor and judge )needs to held this case properly.
As a criminologyst myself I find it extremely odd that DM did not attempt to make a single call after spotting a stranger in the house...not to the housemates, not to 911, not to anyone. I would highly question that conduct, something is off, I can't say what as I am not party to the investigation. But my logic tells me if you wake up in the middel off the night, hear whimpering or crying, spot a stranger and lock yourself into a room, you would at least make one or two calls to establish what is going on with your housemates...
It also goes to show more education needs to be had in teaching people to call and reach out even if they aren't sure they saw something or not. Its better to be safe than sorry. I think this scenario could be a good lesson what could have been done to protect themselves better or to know what to do if something was to happen to one of us. It wasn't a break in my complex had a scheduled entry I forgot about and I thought I'd be in fight mode if someone entered my apartment. Instead I literally asked them what they were doing? They said they were there to inspect my fireplace I wasn't in a place they could enter I told them they weren't that they couldn't come in. They closed the door behind them. So now I'm convinced if someone came in unannounced I'm going to ask them what they are doing or how can I help them. I've been told to laugh but if I'm just waking up I have no idea what's going to happen. That time I had woken from a deep sleep. I often do ask myself what would I do if I came face to face with an intruder. That I don't know, but I tend to be the nosey neighbor and the one that takes note & do my best to report when things are off and out of the ordinary. I haven't always been this way. I just know we must be the police eyes and ears in case crimes are happening and they have no way of knowing unless we speak up and out about what's happening around us.
I agree with you. Who wouldn't be frightened enough to need the police there, just for comfort, you are to frightened, your not thinking of your roommates.
Maybe she had the phone outside her room charging and was afraid to go get it, plus other substances may have been involved if she was under the influence
My thoughts exactly and hopefully get to hear the reason during the trial why she didn't do anything or call 911.We don't know the details and I definitely won't judge anyone else in that position.
I feel horrible for all these people, the kids, the families, the friends. But, there's just no way to wrap your head around this part. So, I've got to think there is more to this and it's being held for evidence reasons. No one would go back to sleep and not call the police or check on their roommates or something !!
Dude's an absolute genius--they should just give him his Ph.D. early. Keeping his cell phone on while he moves to and from the crime scene and turning it off only while it's in progress, not having the knife sheath securely attached to his person, getting out of his car while he's traveling to provide video evidence that it was him and not someone else who had his cellphone? Just brilliant--a criminal mastermind, this one.
Two things: 1. I don't understand why the roommate didn't call the cops. 2. I feel really really really badly for that roommate. If I'm wondering, everyone's wondering, and there are a lot of really awful people out there who will vilify her without knowing all the information. I hope she's somewhere safe. I hope people are looking after her and making sure she's ok. This is something that's going to mess with her head her entire life, poor kid.
The trauma may have made her panic and freeze. Some people have been known to literally fall asleep after trauma and wake up hours later and finally begin processing it. Additionally, I'm almost certain that, like before, the police have more details that they're not telling the public yet as they continue to build their case
I still cannot get over how the "DM" roommate actually saw the perpetrator, locked herself in her room terrified but still didn't call the police immediately or early in the morning when it was light again. It was noon until the call was made.

And he asks whether anyone else was arrested, pure coincidence.
@ don’t be surprised if she’s sitting in prison for the rest of her life when this is said and done. Simply not plausible to go back to sleep if you see a masked man in your home. Her negligence could’ve cost her “friends” lives as some certainly were still alive and died due to loss of blood.
You have to realize that there is more information to be released, this is just an affidavit for probable cause to make an arrest. We don't know the facts about what, when, why!!
A lot of you seem to forget this was a party house. She might've brushed it off that he was a fling. There were 5 girls in that house from different classes. Each of them had random friends coming over all the time. She might've thought he looked creepy at that time and locked herself up, but her first thought would NOT have been "geez he for 200% sure must've murdered all FOUR of my housemates I better call the FBI". She might've been shocked at first but just brushed it off and went to bed after locking her own door. Most people do NOT assume the worst. At most she thought he was a burglar or a nasty one night stand her housemate picked up.
@@KryaDiere Exactly!! Nobody knows exactly what she was thinking!!! Other details will come out eventually. Side note: did you know Bryan's sister was in a slasher movie back in 2011? Has nothing to do with the Crime JS Edit two days back
I really do not understand how anyone is shocked that they had a suspect & didn't tell the media. It let that suspect feel comfortable with no need to run or hide. It gave them time to get evidence to arrest & convict. They played their hand well. I really think his studies were somehow tied into this crime, research of a horrible kind.
@Anthony Bostwick Actually I teach crim psych and could just as easily examine such factors. It isn't itself, that surprising. I write thrillers. Doesn't make me more like to act scenes out. However, other variables with it make it suspicious.
Im dying to know WHY the roommate didnt call the cops for nearly 8 fricken hours. Sadly they had no chance of survival since they waited nearly 8 hours to call the police. I really think the cops should address that because so many people believe she or they are somehow linked.
Don't you guys hate the police and don't you guys have zero trust in the police because they kill everyone? Strange how you will support riots that burn cities, businesses, and police stations one day, then call the same cops for help a moment later.
Forget calling the police if you are indeed in "shock" why she didn't check on the people there after seeing a masked intruder? You don't wanna know if they're ok? That's basic human instinct
I've been wondering, too, and this is my hypothesis: we're talking about a 21 yr old student at a known party school. It's *possible* she was extremely intoxicated/high when she saw him and unable to properly comprehend what was going on. I find it very believable that someone who was on a lot of mind altering substances would react the way she did and then pass out. If that's the case, she must be suffering from an UNBELIEVABLE amount of survivor guilt, and the authorities might be doing everything they can to protect her fragile mental state by trying to avoid discussion in the media about why she didn't immediately call 911.
Respect for Idaho PD, Scranton PA , and all our service men and women who helped bring this together ❤ for their hard work and dedication professionals who worked directly with one another for the victims families. God bless.
This was such excellent detective and police work. Justice is swift but takes time. Side thought: This case will almost certainly become a limited series or film. Massive respect to the friends/family members involved and law enforcement in Moscow, Washington/FBI. The Killer is an absolute creep/POS...
Yea, LE schooled us all. What a great job they did. They always knew a lot more then they let on. They tracked him pretty good. And acted weak, while they were strong
I'm wondering about the conversations between Bryan and his father during their cross country road trip. It's hard to believe that they would not have discussed the murder, especially considering Bryan was a student of criminology and resided within 10 miles of the murders. I bet that the father knows far more than he is letting on and is probably hiding his own suspicions he might have for his son.
Idk..maybe " Son how did you get such a huge cut on your arm & awe they are looking 4 a car like this one"🙄 And...his sister made a low budget film on the murder of College Students as was verified by the television series " 48 hrs" so one might think & " oh son doesn't this case remind you of the show your sister put together" !! 😳 yea sure denial.
Well of course, hes his father... What would you do if you suspected your son of committing a terrible crime like this one? What happens when you confront him and he denies it? Would you really goto police on suspicions alone, accusing your own son of doing the unthinkable?
He probably left the sheath behind because, despite all his planning and criminal justice education about DNA evidence, once he began to commit the crime a kill-frenzy came over him and his intellect just went straight out the window. He could not enjoy the rush-emotions of the moment without also sacrificing his critical thinking and presence of mind.
@@CSeyoum Exactly! I used to know someone who actually committed a murder. When I went to visit him in prison, he explained about the rush of adrenaline he got and how it took a good long while for him to come back down to normal.
I hope to God that people on all the social media platforms who didn’t just suspect, but would say it was Jake or whomever they tried to pin these horrific murders on, are apologizing! They have no idea what that’s doing to them still thinking people thought they would do such thing.
If it turns out this guy wasn’t actually the guy, do you think people will be apologising? Reminds be of the whole Richard Jewel thing. Sure, this guy might actually be guilty. But it’s interesting we all just assume he is because that’s who the police arrested. Even though he hasn’t been convicted of anything, and we obviously don’t know all the facts of the case.
Prayers for the victims and their families going through this. Young people, young souls lost their lives and were just starting out in life. 💔 This is absolutely heartbreaking.
Back in early December I remember seeing multiple TikTok and RUclips videos taking about how bad the detectives were in the case and how it was taking them so long and no information was being released and i remembered watching the Netflix series about the night stalker and how when the detectives got more info on who they thought the suspect was they didn't released it to the press because they would run the risk of him running away or hiding making harder to catch him and this exactly how this went down!
I understand that one father's rage and grief that made him try to push the police to tell what they knew etc - but me hearing they were on to the killer seemingly within a week or two goes to show that the police stay silent for reasons.
Exactly. Kaylee’s parents were ridiculous in accusing LE of being lame and unprofessional for not revealing everything they knew. Revealing this information prematurely would have jeopardized their ability to arrest this guy with solid evidence.
Exactly. Kaylee's parents were so disrespectful and being so unreasonable...pushing the medial and public to put more pressure on the police than necessary. The apple don't fall too far from the tree. Kalyee was the one having all of the house parties and noise complaints. Of course that shouldn't result in death but if you have kids being disrespectful to neighbors or people and living life full of risks, it increases the risk of ending up like these kids. I have a feeling Kaylee is connected to the killer somehow...this is just a guess.
I thought he was out of line from the beginning. LEA doesn't just want to make an arrest, they want to build a case than can result in a conviction. Releasing any of what is in the PCA would've jeopardized the case, alerted the suspect and possibly put lives in danger. I understand his grief, but the investigators didn't deserve the heat he brought down on them. I'm glad the gag order is in place, and the spotlight is off of them for a bit. Everyone involved this case talked way too much at the beginning.
I'll be honest my son now 15 in 9th grade, when he was in 7th grade his friend video chatted him before school and stabbed himself. My baby was in such shock he got a shower, got ready for school and went to school. Since then my boy has had mental issues. It was almost a year before we knew what happened. It was when he told a friend he wanted to unalive himself and the police came to the house and we had to take him to be evaluated. Unfortunately my son is on the autism spectrum,ADHD,mood disorder so we assumed he was just having a break down. So I could only imagine what this young lady is now going thru. My prayers are with all survivors, family and friends.
Thank you for sharing such sensitive information. I hope your son continues to heal and improve. I cannot imagine how I would behave in such an intense situation, so I hope people can reserve judgement, and place blame where it belongs, on the killer.
Please make sure he continues to speak to psychiatrists, and psychologists not just in his teenage years. Make sure he speaks to both of them on a regular basis into adulthood. I went thru something similar in my teenager years. Thought all was well, then didnt go in my 20s. The grief process continues thru adulthood. Im so sorry this happened to you and your son. You cant be healed from this, but talking about it with a 3rd party, not you or his friends, a certified professional will help him.
DM has more to answer about why s/he did not report seeing the intruder OR check on her friends upstairs much sooner. It's VERY suspicious, and doesn't make sense
Wow. Just wow. “Good Old Police Work” is an understatement. Amazingly executed to track him. I guarantee those “random” stops on his way home were farrrrrr from “random”. Rest in Peace and God help the families involved in this senseless, and despicable tragedy.
I cannot believe the roommate actually saw the killer who walked towards her as she was in a shocked and frozen state. Then the killer just walks past her and out the sliding glass door. The roommate then locks herself in her bedroom and does nothing? How does she not call the police until noon or 8 hours later? Maybe she could have possibly saved one of her roommate’s life. Wow…. something doesn’t sound right about this witnessing roommate! I’m so confused.
My gut feeling is telling me that maybe the surviving room mates were in on this whole thing. Maybe they told him when to come and that’s why he kinda casually walked passed her? It doesn’t make sense why a killer that’s already stabbed 4 people would just walk passed a witness like that and it could explain why police weren’t called right away
If you have a college child-you know that if they were up parting until 4am- these kids are NOT getting out of bed until 12-1:00pm! There is nothing alarming about not calling the police/finding the bodies at 12pm. I am a Lawyer and Criminal Justice major- But as a Mother- this is a known fact!!! College kids sleep IN after big parties.
Come on. She's a kid stop putting all that blame on her. She had nothing to do with it. Maybe she should have done something different but you know what she didn't. So move forward. Let it go that poor girl has to live with that. It wouldn't change anything. He murdered the four kids regardless of what she did or didn't do after people need to let it go
She called friends over 9 hours later because she didnt know until she went to let the friends in?? Cause she lives in a loud party house with drinking and probably regular fighting she just didnt make anything of it? Is that when they all found the bodies??
Very risky on the perpetrator’s part. He really had no idea what level of resistance he would meet. Could have been other men in the house, possibly a gun, Ethan was 6’5” bigger than him too. It’s really hard to believe, after all that has been revealed, 911 wasn’t called until 8 hours later.
He was near the house at least 12 times before the murders happened. Maybe he was scouting out the place to see the layout of the property and the comings and goings of the roommates.
Prayers for the victims and families. My step kids are the same ages as the victims and my heart would break if something ever happened to them. May God help them all

This is eerily similar to the Dartmouth murders 20 years ago. Two teens bought knives and went into a home and stabbed a couple to death. It was by all accounts a "thrill killing". The boys left their knife sheaths behind too and the cops traced it back to them. Also, the Kabar knife hasn't been issued by the military for over 50 years. You can buy them anywhere.
I was surprised by the amount of info released in the affidavit. Normally they wouldn't do this but I think it just shows how confidence they're in the case against him.
Incredible how underestimated LE was in this case 😮. I’m glad they proved a lot of us wrong 🙌🏼 Hopefully we find out the motive; sadly it still doesn’t bring these 4 bright souls back. Continued prayers for the victims’ families and all involved in this tragedy 🙏🏼🙏🏼.
To be fair the police have PROVED nothing yet, all the congrats to LE is way to premature we know the accused is not always the guilty party. I'm saving the congrats until the killer is PROVEN guilty through evidence and witnesses in front of a jury under oath. Let's just hope they do indeed have the correct person in chains for the victims for the family and for the accused.
Hold your horses buddy - the murder trial hasn't even begun yet! People need to stop calling this - a jury will decide this defendant's guilt in due course.
@Kendra Smith right. He probably thought he knew how to get away with it because his schooling. The comments about the surviving roommate are curious to me. Why did he let her live, and how can they hear some things and not others. That all seemed curious. I hope she isn't involved in some way.
@@victoriaimdahl6058 it does not add up. His schooling would tell him not to leave part of the murder weapon on the bed, and not to drive the car that’s being broadcast that they are looking for. They act like the cell phone showed up at the house. Pinging a tower in the area could be miles away and his school was 10-12 miles.
I am sure this thought already occurred to them. I was staying in Pullman the week before the murders, visiting my son at U of I (Parents weekend) and it only took 15 minutes to go between the 2 locations. I am curious about the almost hour where they saw the car leave Moscow and arrive in Pullman. If they can track that travel path, it sounds like time taken to dispose of weapon/clothing.
I believe I read the affidavit said the subject was pinged driving around in an obvious attempt to throw his location off. So they could tell what he was doing.
Yup that is exactly what I was thinking, hopefully they find the murder weapon along the long route he took back home. We also don't know if they have gone through his apartment, as well as the car.
@@landryhammond1828 But if he's so foxy, why did he bring his cell phone along for the ride in the first place? As a Criminal Justice grad student, shouldn't he have known about cell phone tower pings? His former college should rescind his Master's Degree for that reason alone.
Knowing about criminology does not mean its easy or even possible to setup a perfect crime. Things happen that are unpredictable, and its always possible to miss or overlook a detail
It just doesn’t make sense why the police weren’t called. Your roommate says someone’s in the house you hear screaming and crying and you see a masked man leaving and you don’t go check on your roommates or call 911?
Also I’m super confused about them calling the police so late and saying one of their friend was not responding? huh? I thought everyone was stabbed to death so wouldn’t the roommates see that there’s blood all over them? Super bizarre
I’m in no way saying that I think the surviving roommate was “in on it” but not checking on your roommates or calling the police after seeing someone in the house and hearing people crying is wild
I have the theory that if he saw her, he was thrown by seeing her. He had built the experience in his mind and her standing there brought him out of that fantasy. He was trying to be an organized killer and anything that goes outside of their plan, usually throws them off and I would think he panicked and got out as quickly as he could.
Other thoughts..he couldn't kill her after looking at her face (not sure how dark it was)...he is an awkward shy guy and that would make it too personal for him. He killed the girls in thier sleep because that was the only way he could do it. He probably has limited to no experience with women. I could see Jesse Eisenberg playing him in biopic film.
He was stalking them for months. He was fully aware who was staying in that house. The loud screams of the dog and one of the girls panicked him and he had to get out there asap. The survivors are just very lucky.
Wow, the police did an excellent job here - telling the public they had NO suspect when they did and basically tracking him all the way to Pennsylvania. What a kook that he turned off his phone while he was inside, but stupidly brought it with him, plus used his own car that they easily tracked.
There's no excuse for the roommate!! She heard crying she should of at least checked on them, and if she was scared to leave the room, she could of called on the cell phone, or called out to them!! Then 911 ASAP!! She could have saved some of them!! NO EXCUSE FOR NOT DOING ANYTHING FOR HER ROOMMATES!!
This is a very sad and senseless crime. I’ve been praying for the victims and their families since I heard about this terrible crime in November. I applaud the police for their thorough investigation and how strong of a case they have built against the suspect. I do want to point out that a USMC Kabar is not at all difficult to obtain. Any one of us could order one off Amazon tonight and have it by Monday. Otherwise, this was a very informative video. Thank you for your hard work covering this case.
Well, I'm fairly certain your prayers will do nothing, but what I am certain about is that the science will shine through so we can put this scumbag to death. Of course, innocent until proven guilty.
The fact that so little from the affidavit was leaked is a testament to the professionalism of law enforcement. Make no mistake: in a case as complex (in terms of the MASSIVE amount of DNA to sift through) as this, the police work was fast, thorough, and will help build an iron-clad case for the DA. Chance of acquittal=zero.
I honestly think he thought it was wiped clean of DNA and left it on purpose to throw off investigators making them think it was someone with military background.
I don’t think he knew he left it. He probably was so amped up from what he did he forgot it was in a sheath. There is no way he would have wanted to leave that behind.
Unless things have changed since I was in the Marine Corps in the '70s', the USMC survival knife that you refer to as a K-Bar was not standard issue. It was not considered a part of our equipment nor did we train with it. If you wanted one, you had to go out and purchase it at the PX or a sporting goods store. And obtaining a survival knife was not encouraged or suggested in any way by the Marine Corps. Although as I previously said, they were sold in the PX. It is as much a civilian item as a military one.
@5:14 that screenshot of them being pulled over speaks volumes. His dad looks all calm like a normal traffic stop and Bryan looks terrified like he thinks they know what he did
I recently was witness to the murder of my neighbor in front of my house, and I froze for a second or two while I processed the guy begging for his life and debating with myself if I should try to intervene, then I turned and ran up hill to my house (no small feat as I am recovering from a heart attack) and called the police to come ASAP as was someone was being murdered.... so yes you can freeze for a moment but when someone else's life relies on you acting, you force yourself to move.
Quick correction: Affidavit actually says DM was on Floor 2 (her br was on the back side of Floor 2 by the sliding door)- not on Floor 1 where we all thought to this point she lived. This explains Kohberger passing her by on the way out to the sliding door. This explains why after hearing "somebody's here' she'd open the door to look (wouldn't make sense if she was on Floor 1). Also explains why DM was able to hear Xana's voice and hear the commotion both from down the hall and the floor immediately above her. (I had to take a doubletake on the affadavit to confirm i read that right).
I'm still shocked that the police were able to identify the suspect so soon in this case. I thought it would take much longer but the police did a really good job finding the person responsible.
Because it's a small town, and police station is right around the corner. They would have caught up with him. You can tell right off the bat whomever did this crime is not from there. It would have to be some out of towner because they don't have these types of crimes there.

Hindsight is 20/20. I lived in an off campus home with others and an intruder opened my bedroom door, waking me at night. I was so scared, locked my door and I NEVER CALLED 911. DM is 20. She had no idea there were 4 people murdered upstairs. Hindsight is 20/20. At 53 years old now, I would have called 911 immediately when the stranger open my bedroom door and startled me in the middle of the night.
Exactly. Plus, this was a party house. I used to live in a party house near campus & there's been so many times where random drunk ppl would stumble or try to get into my room in the middle of the night or times when I'd run into strangers in the hallway. Those roommates are probably already experiencing extreme trauma & survivors guilt & ppl pointing blame at them isn't helping especially when there's no evidence of their involvement
She also probably assumed that since there were 4 people upstairs there was more than enough to handle whatever problem had occurred. It's like the Bystander Effect.

What I fail to understand why the survivor who saw the Murderer didn’t wake and alert her roommate especially after she’d opened her door three times. Also , she saw him leave, so why didn’t she contact the Police but wait until midday the following day? Finally, did the Survivor and Roommate remain locked in their room until when?

This is such a sad case as is. Their roommates probably feel so much guilt and sadness. We can't expect people to act calm and logical in situations like that.
For those criticising DM for locking herself in her room and not calling 911 sooner, remember the case of Elizabeth Smart? Her and her sister were asleep in bed together when a man broke in and kidnapped Elizabeth from the bed they were in. The sister saw the entire thing but pretended to be asleep. It took her hours to get up and go and tell the parents what had happened out of fear that he was going to return or might harm her/her sister if she did anything. Dylan locking herself in her room and not making any sounds/calls is obviously the response of a scared or confused young woman. The point I am making is that this does and has happened and everything looks so much simpler in hindsight, especially from behind a keyboard.

The combo of him not killing dylan and her not calling 911 and bringing friends over is a recipe for conspiracies until the end of time
Conspiracy fools making crazy comments about DM. Totally unsupported comments on it they made.
@@Asidebar sorry not sorry.
Dylan and Bryan a couple?
He had a balaclava on
Because it's probably a psyop.
Everyone will say you are victim blaming but it looks like she’s either complicit or delayed.
I heard she was high and thought maybe she was hallucinating so she just decided to sleep it off. It is the only understandable explanation
Not calling police after a masked intruder walks right by you is the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard.
Totally my thoughts too
Yeah doesn’t make sense at all!!

Two things:

That's for sure. Poor girl has a lot of healing to do. I just hope that she don't blame herself because it's not her fault...
Obviously they are college age. Maybe girls sleep around and they assumed someone had a nightly visitor? It happens for attractive people you know
Drugs or one night stands could be the reason.

He actually made a survey while in school as his project or something pretty weird

Im dying to know WHY the roommate didnt call the cops for nearly 8 fricken hours. Sadly they had no chance of survival since they waited nearly 8 hours to call the police. I really think the cops should address that because so many people believe she or they are somehow linked.
It's unbelivable, she/he should have been on 911 ASAP, like 5 minutes
Don't you guys hate the police and don't you guys have zero trust in the police because they kill everyone?
Strange how you will support riots that burn cities, businesses, and police stations one day, then call the same cops for help a moment later.
@@russiaprivjet for 8 hours??

He was extremely careless for an average person, much less someone who is going for a PhD in criminology.
I’m sure he knows his son is a weirdo, but I doubt his son spoke of committing the murder.
Father could have easily been in the dark about his son's involvement & guilt
Idk..maybe " Son how did you get such a huge cut on your arm & awe they are looking 4 a car like this one"🙄 And...his sister made a low budget film on the murder of College Students as was verified by the television series " 48 hrs" so one might think & " oh son doesn't this case remind you of the show your sister put together" !! 😳 yea sure denial.
Well of course, hes his father... What would you do if you suspected your son of committing a terrible crime like this one? What happens when you confront him and he denies it? Would you really goto police on suspicions alone, accusing your own son of doing the unthinkable?
Maybe the father is involve.
He probably lost it in the bed sheets..he got home and probably had a full blown panic attack that he left that behind. 🤦♂️

Exactly!!
basically, basic
Everyone ragged on the cops saying the head detective was inexperienced- this cops had this air tight and did a very very good job
Revealing this information prematurely would have jeopardized their ability to arrest this guy with solid evidence.
it would've been another brian laundrie type of case

I cannot imagine how I would behave in such an intense situation, so I hope people can reserve judgement, and place blame where it belongs, on the killer.
you are so kind to support the young woman I cant imagine the fear.

I am sure this thought already occurred to them.

Plausible. He may be waiting for her to open fire on him. She was waiting for him to come back if she made a peep
@@JuxJacy I thought they were blowing up Jack’s phone an hour earlier?!
Also the surveillance, cctv tracking of his car is crazy! Wow just wow.
Hello 👋
Wow, the police did an excellent job here - telling the public they had NO suspect when they did and basically tracking him all the way to Pennsylvania. What a kook that he turned off his phone while he was inside, but stupidly brought it with him, plus used his own car that they easily tracked.
A hire car or stolen car is just as easy to track. Best if you are a criminal drive your own car.

Finally, a comment worth reading
Yes, I read that and find this awful 'coincidence' strange.
Yup, I've got one somewhere, never been in the military. Easy to get.
needless crime? what's a needful crime?
Well, I'm fairly certain your prayers will do nothing, but what I am certain about is that the science will shine through so we can put this scumbag to death. Of course, innocent until proven guilty.
@@RandomUser-cw5oi right?? since when is there a needful crime
yes. I have used one once before and the person who owned the knife was never military. Can easily get.
That poor girl is going to have nightmares for the rest of her life after meeting this monster while he was walking out of this massacre.
oh she's gonna be called on the witness stand
So she saw his eyes but he didn’t see her? Not making sense.
That’s if he did it.
@@henry7765 troll
I don’t think he knew he left it. He probably was so amped up from what he did he forgot it was in a sheath. There is no way he would have wanted to leave that behind.
FBI/CIA could have planted it - they commit crimes all the time and then frame people
You might have to much time on your hands.
Your right ...my brother was in the Marines..in 69..I don't remember him having one!

@@cattnipp your allowed to have your opinion, & others are allowed theres as well.

If you saw him just walking down the street you wouldn't call him evil. Looks like a normal person to me. I met a few murderers while in jail who were friendly personable guys and you would never know what they had allegedly done.
I agree - murder is not something she probably considered.
