I never thought I'd see the day where Brandon Herrera made me cry. That was an incredibly heart felt monologue on helping those that suffer from depression. Bravo.
Maybe I'm just jaded, but whenever I hear someone speak about suicides, I always think it's virtue signalling. Source: cigarette burn scars and wrist cut scars.

Just here to remind everyone why this series exists. It is to bring awareness to gun safety and how even the smallest of errors can lead to horrible consequences. So remember kids grab your AKs eat your wheaties and always follow firearm safety. #AKGnotificationsquad.
Actually, a reason why reasonable Gun Control is needed too... If you are too stupid to follow the most basic rules in gun safety you shouldn't have a gun ever
As someone who struggles with depression regularly, I have so much respect for the "call a friend" statement and how genuine the talk about suicide awareness was. I luckily have people that help keep my chin up and I hope that anyone who deals with similar feelings, doesn't hesitate to reach out to people around them. There are people who care no matter how dark it gets
I had a friend “punch their own ticket in the self checkout line” just a couple months ago. Thank you for not showing the end of that video and also thanks for your words about mental health. It was super hard processing that someone I had taught to shoot years earlier would do that. It is so true that only you can protect yourself from yourself. R.I.P Matt
Several years ago, I missed an opportunity to "have that one lunch that might make all the difference". My buddy randomly came over really late, just wanted to talk, but I was tired and I had work very early in the morning -- last time I saw him. I still think about him all the time. RIP Chad, and RIP to your friend, Matt. They won't be forgotten.
Brandon Herrera is talking about real stuff while promoting gun safety and mental health. I love to see it. Need people to understand that there is always someone out there willing to talk to you.
Brandon Herrera, 15:38 It is not russian solder, just ukranian nazi solder on donbas. he did not kill himself, he argued with his colleagues that he could not weakly press the trigger and check if the machine gun was loaded? From Russia with love.
Really appreciate how Brandon talked about mental health awareness and how most of the time you never know how others are struggling. As well as helping new shooters about how firearms are fun yet need to always be taken very seriously.
Brandon handled that segment really well Sadly, not all people are as nice and understanding as he is Most think that if they can't relate, then whatever it is you're dealing with is some kind frivolous crap that is not even worth mentioning Be well, everyone
And just an FYI, because suicide hotlines are now having to put people on hold due to high call volumes, you can always call 911 or go to your nearest ER.
I just showed this to a bunch of my fellow soldiers, and my sergeant straight up said you handled the suicide portion at the end exceptionally well. This is why I keep showing my friends this series; theres always a lesson to be learned from them.
The latter one you commented on really sucks having to deal with and clean up. I've got to see end result of Darwin Award winners more times than I want. This will sound crass but now you know or understand why extra cleaning supplies and paint available. It might be days before investigations is finished or a few hours.
I told this to Brandon on a Twitch chat, well over a year ago now, he is a shining and invaluable example to young people worldwide. He deserves more credit than he gets, Tom Cruise needs to take him up in his P-51 as a thank you for his service to humanity with this channel... it would take no pre-planning for gear, they probably wear the same size flight suit! 😂
The ending of this video is exactly the reason why Brandon is the best gun youtuber, shows perfectly how you can have fun with guns but should be safe and uses every possible moment to teach/help
ngl tho it kinda sounded like he has personally experienced someone go to self checkout, and thats his personal biz and whatnot but like, if he needs a shoulder i think anyone of you sexy youtube mother lovers would let him cry on their shoulder
@@zzzetsulive I agree, I felt a deeper meaning as if there was a connection and I am not really happy. Not hating ofc. Just worried about Brandon’s mental health. I feel like we should check on our favorite RUclips mother lover more. Because he’s out national treasure. Advocate, the man himself. Ofc everyone is. And we shouldn’t ever leave anyone by themselves when it comes to mental health. I can’t wait to become a citizen of this country and advocate for everyone, let everyone know that mental health matters. But also advocate for our gun rights. Stay safe. And have a good night my friend
this is why most call him the akdaddy he is a father figure that teaches use about guns and how to use them but he is human so I find this moments of talk about other things. relaxing. people are the same so talk to someone you haven't. If you don't have anyone then talk to us the family of gun lovers. so reminder you my feel worthless but you are strong then your regrets your fear your hate. so find help
@@zzzetsulive To be honest man, and this is a bad thing but not a criticisable thing, nearly everyone in the world has been personally touched by friends or family commiting unalive. You will br very hard pressed to find someone who has not had a friend or family member at least attempt. I used to be a person who thought all people who commit unalive are selfish losers who cant handle being sad, that was until I was in that deep pit and learned for myself what it was truly like. I learned that its not the person's fault for wanting off this Earth but its just a sad fact that this rock is a bitch to live on.
Back in the 1970's, when I was in my 20's, my friend's older brother was "flagging" me with a handgun he was showing off to his brother, mother, and others. I was sitting reclined in a lawn chair, and several times, as he was showing various features of the gun (some semi-auto, I think a 1911 but don't remember), the barrel was pointed at me. I politely asked him, "Please don't point that at me". That "triggered" him into a rage, and he took a few steps toward me, pressed the barrel of the gun against my forehead, and yelled, "YOU DON'T WANT THE GUN POINTED AT YOU???", and "HOW ABOUT THIS???". Then he and his wife stormed off. I was stunned. The next thing that happened was just as ridiculous and disturbing: my friend and his mother made all sorts of excused for him, telling me that "I never should have said that". They assumed I knew... but didn't... that he and my friend had been in court a few years before in a case where their third roommate had killed my friend and high school classmate, a girl. I was not hanging out with my friend until after high school, and didn't follow the details of the case. But somehow it was, supposedly, MY fault that they were considered culpable to some extent for knowing that their roommate owned the illegal revolver he used to murder my friend, but never reported it to the police. And further, that it was understandable that he threatened me with a gun to my head for making the supposed "mistake" of challenging his judgement around guns. I still get riled up when I think of this incident, so many decades ago, if it doesn't show in this rant. By the way, all this didn't happen in some rough inner-city environment, this was the relatively crime free and peaceful suburbs of a major city.
If you were carrying back then, that would have been a legit self defense case. People like that who are willing to point guns at people for no reason have no right to continue to do so.
Brandon, that last bit wasn't something I expected but something I appreciate. The most dangerous thing about people in that headspace is that they will do EVERYTHING they can to appear OK when they aren't. It takes a great deal of care and trust between two people for someone in that situation to be open about it. For anyone reading this, if you got someone who always tries to shoulder things, stares off into space or loses attention from time to time, or is generally fine being a complete loner (but doesn't mind company) hang out with them. Just chat. Just do SOMETHING. It doesn't matter if its just sitting with them staring at the ceiling and cracking open a beer. Just having there helps know that they're not alone. And if you're someone who's going through things, be open. I know its hard but find your closest friend and lean on them. Everyone's going through shit in their life, you're probably not alone out there. Sometimes too: the best people to help you out of those things in life are people experiencing the same problem, because when you both know how it feels its easier to navigate the pitfalls. I've been there, I've worked with people who've been there. Its a terrible place to be, and hard to escape when you're alone. Therapy and Antidepressants aren't a silver bullet. If you don't have a support structure the change will only be temporary. So be that support structure for someone, or be willing to accept one so that you can get better. Just don't punch your own damned ticket.
That Russian soldier obviously didn't mean to do it he was just stupid and it's thinning the herd. I've seen other people acquaintances that I have known drunk off their ass putting the barrel of a pistol in their mouths with their finger on the trigger and laughing hysterically. Again I just look at them and freak and say thanks I'll be leaving now. By the door, on my own two feet and get in my car and go home!
It’s not the deepest depths of depression when people self end. It’s when they come out of that deepest point when they do. In fact they are often super cheerful because they now have a horrible plan. Knowing this terrible bit of knowledge may actually help you to save someone, maybe even a loved one.
Thanks for having the common sense and compassion to know the difference between someone being stupid and someone in a dark place that doesn't see any other way to deal with it but to hit their on/off button. You're a class act and a stand up guy that more people should aspire to be like Brandon. Love from the east coast beaches of MD!!!

That last bit shows that Brandon is the sincerest and most caring kind of person. And love how he pointed out that everyone watching likely knows someone battling depression and with those thoughts. People love virtue signaling that "they wish they knew," when often times, people do know, it just doesn't benefit them to reach out.
@@rjmac3001 Oh no. How dare he have fun as a gun youtuber. There's nothing you can do to fix stupid. There is something you can do to reach out to those with depression.
@@rjmac3001 Humor often comes from dark topics because it helps us relate with each other. It's a healthy coping mechanism. Of course, some people are just sick but I'm not going to decide that for you.
I find that it's people who try to guilt trip and lambast others for considering suicide to be the problem. I haven't heard yet of people who virtue signal that they wish they knew
Ok, this episode hit way closer to home than I was expecting and I have to give props. What Brandon says about, and to use his words (sorry 😅) “punching his own ticket” is extremely powerful, this may not get seen, this may not get to anyone, but I feel it’s my duty. I had a friend of 10 years decide to commit. And he’d always joked for years, none of us took it seriously. I still wonder to this day 6 years later that if I had seen him the summer before and showed him how great of a friend he was, and how much he meant to me that he might still be here. But because I didn’t call him up for lunch as Brandon eloquently says, I will never know. Don’t take people for granted, nor their feelings. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk, stay safe everyone! 😊
Having lost a friend to a gun suicide, your heartfelt words are greatly appreciated. Thank you, Brandon. I agree, no one wins a Darwin award by committing suicide. It was also a great episode overall!
Sorry for your loss, had one of those quite recently in my family as well. There are nowords for a situation like this, only the emptiness and heartbreak. take care.
5 years ago almost to the day I lost one of my good friends to suicide by gun. Someone I loved done in by one of my other loves in life. If sucks and its a very real thing. I should have understood more when he said he was depressed. I should have done more. I still love with regret for not doing enough.
Honestly everytime I hear him say anything about it I start tearing up because it's an honestly noble thing and I could be behind it 100%. As someone who suffers from depression thanks to many things and have seen people exclude themselves from life permanently, it strikes somewhere close. If you are reading this Brandon, I love what you do and you're an awesome man!
Brandon, 2 months ago, I was in a very dark place when I came across this video. I lost my father in January, and while still dealing with that, my mother passed in April. My life seemed to be spiraling, and the thought of doing that horrible action had seriously crossed my mind on more than 1 occasion. Hearing what you said about the only person who can protect you from yourself is you is what prompted me to talk to someone and seek help. 2 months later, I'm doing so much better and on a path to continue to overcome life's obstacles. There are still difficult days, but I now have people and, most importantly, the will to "keep on keeping on." I could go on and on, but I won't. Just wanted to say thank you, brother. You didn't know it, but you saved me.
Wow if a RUclips video stops you from unaliving yourself, imagine what getting off your butt an stop wasting your time, watching RUclips videos, where u will be , no one has said anything but I will, not only is it cringe asf, but life isn't gonna get any better for you, wasting your time on RUclips videos, life sucks for everyone at some point and time, taking your life ove a rough patch is incredibly short sighted, your best day could be tomorrow, you won't know unless you are here to experience it.
@@mikeysgametime8914 I apologise in advance if i sound rather like im insulting you. But people go through depression in different ways. if a Video of someone who they follow gave them the "inspiration" to put it somehow to seek help, that's what matters, doesn't matter how someone gets that inspiration to seek help but the fact that they do so. The Lad's still around and hopefully doing better than ever. That's what's important Also, i was able to see where you where going with you're message, but might be my opinion but kinda ruins a bit the message when you say that their motivation to seek help is "cringe af"
Your closing monolog was wholesome. You truly never know when that phone call, that text message, that getting a lunch or a coffee with a friend can be the ONE thing they really needed to pull them out of a dark place. I've been told that I've been that person before, and I know I can think of several people who have done that for me just when I needed it the most. Your knowledge of com bloc weaponry is insightful, your comedic charisma is entertaining, but seeing this side of you is heartwarming. You're a good human Brandon, you're the kind of guy I'd love to know and hang out with, on and off the range.
Love that you tossed up the suicide prevention hotline man. My mom lost her brother to suicide. A man I never got a chance to meet in my life because he unfortunately left this world before I was even born. but now some 30+ years later my mom doesn’t go a single day without the pain it left her. To anyone struggling. There’s always hope and there is always someone to talk to. Even a stranger off of RUclips or a stranger on the street.
Aye. Was definitely a noticeable change of mood. Sobering, I hope, enough to flash in the minds of any viewer considering a foolish stunt, or to quote the man himself, "opting for the self check-out line".
Just going through and watching these videos for entertainment, but that final clip and what you had to say really has spoken to me at a time that I actually would say for the first time in my life that I needed to hear it. Thank you Brandon, you are truly a hero
As someone who has seen the uncut version, it is a hard, sad watch. You can tell he's serious about it, his "friends" are encouraging him, and he's wanting to give them a show as he does it. Very hard watch. I hadn't thought I'd see it here, as this is a sensitive topic, but the context and talk he gave were well done. And much needed in today's world. Thank you, Brandon.
Beautiful message at the end. I have struggled with depression and anxiety for years. Last year I sold my P365XL after I started having bad panic attacks. I thought it just didn’t make sense to own a gun and not have 100% control over my mental state. I’m proud to say I’ve come a long way and now responsibly own two handguns and have developed a passion for safety, grip, stance, etc. keep pushing guys!
Good for you. That self control of selling the 365 for others safety is commendable, but building up the self confidence and responsibility to own guns again is even more commendable!
Its really great to see the progress you made. And the responsibility of a gun owner that you showed when you sold your 365. Glad to hear you are doing good again.
My brother is a 22 year old former Marine who lost about half his boot camp battalion to self-checkout lining. He also battles those same demons his friends did. Thanks for using the last clip as a message to those others who may be thinking of unaliving themselves. You just never know who may need that message ❤️
I think the best description I've every heard is "being a soldier (member of the Army) is something you did. Being a Marine is something you are." He's still a Marine. Semper Fi. Tell he we appreciate him, and what he did. Even if he thinks he didn't do anything, that he chose to serve before knowing the ramifications of what it meant to serve. But the when he truly chose to serve was after he learned what it would cost him, and he did it anyway. Few have truly faced the abyss and stood their ground.
I had a friend of mine take the self checkout lane the summer of my senior year. 8 years later I still remember that funeral like it was yesterday... One of the very few people who ever stood up for me. Stay golden kid.
Thank you Brandon for including that last bit. It actually physically sickens me to know that people were sending that to you HOPING you'd put it into the Darwin Awards, thinking that it's okay. Suicide isn't funny, and the people who think it is are gross, disgusting, and I hope they never have to go through it.
@MrComfyFrog. Oh yeah, dark humour is funny, you just have to be aware of your audience, but from how Brandon phrased it, it seemed like the people sending him that last video thought it was hilarious, and that makes me mad.
Brandon, that message, man. You really are a real one. Here's to another fan's life potentially saved including mine. I haven't been in the most decent of head spaces lately. I considered the easy way out a couple times, but, hearing that message is really what I needed to hear. Suicide is not to be taken lightly, it affects millions of people and so many actually take action. Whether it be via moving vehicle, heights, drowning, and like shown, a live firearm, etcetera. We were born into this world for a reason. I believe the meaning of life is to be what your life experiences have molded you to be. Sure, I may enjoy smoking, drinking, and partying, but that doesn't make up my entire personality. I love welding, I love shooting for sport and entertainment. I was trained in firearm safety, I was trained in how to handle a firearm, I was trained in how to shoot a firearm. This was all in my time in the Junior Reserved Officer Training Corps for the United States Army. I love my family, I wouldn't trade the world for their love and support. I'd rather live my short life knowing I have things I love doing than stuck in the times that have left me inside out. 6 years, 1 month, and 19 days ago. 9:00 am, my dad was pronounced dead. I was only 12 at the time... It still haunts me to this day. But what I remember vividly was the look on his face. He was... smiling, I knew he wasn't suffering anymore, I knew that it was his time. After his bone marrow transplant in February the new T-Cells were rejected. When that happens, your body will begin to shut down and kill you. Well, he was given at least 2 weeks to a month to live. He kept fighting, to stay alive for as long as he could, for us. He was the type of man you could always respect and rely on. Hard working, tough, serious when he needed to be, and not so serious having a good time. I've finally reached a level of some sort of acceptance. The whole event still doesn't feel real to me, its like I was plunged into a completely different reality. But, all the advice that I've been given one has really stood out to me. "You are what's truly left of your father, he would want you to keep going, to live your life. What good is the easy way out going to do if you don't carry his legacy? Its just going to make life harder for your family, do you really want that, Josh? To hurt your family more? I love you, man. I would hate to see your name on the news. Keep on fighting, for me, for your family and friends, and for your father."
All the best to you. I lost a loved one to suicide, and knew ever since that day that I'd never want to put any of my loved ones through the same sorta pain I felt, and still carry to this day. For those we've lost; We gotta keep pushing forward, to (at the very least) honor them and share their memory. Telling others their story and who they were helps keep them alive in our hearts and those of others, which forever immortalizes them, imho. Life is one rocky rollercoaster; You may start to feel sick from all the sharp turns and unexpected ups & downs, but if you take the time to experience it, you may find something about it you enjoy. Look after yourself out there, stranger. Everyone deserves some happiness.
That's an awesome story bro... Glad you're still here... I too attempted to "cash out" like three times after my grandma passed away... She was my life, the only one I felt ever cared about me... I lost contact with my family for over 30 years... I was alone... I even considered suicide just recently... But now I'm glad I didn't as I just heard from my cousin "Joey" and aunt Karen after 30 years... Had I of "cashed out", I would have never heard from them... At least now I don't feel so alone...
Hey man. I just want to say your not alone. I lost my grandparents when I was 13 (my dads side) I wasn’t as close to them as my moms mom but I still loved them so much and I learned a lot of stuff about cars from my grandpa. I learned how to love people even when they wrong and hurt you from my grandma. No one was wiser in the words of love and forgiveness except Jesus Christ and she’d give him a run for his money. Well my family would tell me that I was grandpas favorite and I didn’t believe it, how could I be. I was the weakest of the men in my family, I was no where near the smartest and I wasn’t successful or anything. Honestly I thought id be his least favorite and when I read a note he left me I began to weep. I mean just ugly cry because he told me that he saw so much inside me I didn’t see in myself. That I was gonna be one hell of a soldier, mechanic or whatever else I decide to do with my life and that whatever I choose I need to do it the Pierce way, to the best of my ability and never accept mediocrity. I sat at the foot of his casket and sobbed asking if he was proud of me and that I hoped he would be. When my grandma died I did the same thing, I was just a scared and sad little boy only wanting his families pride and approval. When I saw my dad crying it put the last nail in the coffin. I hugged him toght and began to weep not for me but for him. That I saw my hero so upset and hurting he was crying. One of the only 3 times id ever seen him cry. Fast forward one day and my dad And I were fighting about something because I messed up some work we were doing and he said something and I screamed at him that he was right, that I couldn’t even succeed in taking my own life and he stopped and asked “what” I told him I tried killing myself twice and he walked towards me and asked me if it was true. I told him yes and that it was because I made him and my mom so ashamed of me that I wanted to end my life. He gave me the biggest hug and began to ugly cry and told me how sorry he was for making me feel that way. He looked at me and asked me how long id felt that way and told him since I was a little boy. We both stood there hugging and sobbing and he just kept telling me how sorry he was that He made me feel so awful. We’ve since mended our relationship and when I told him how I had a full ride scholarship through college he made sure to tell me just how proud he was of me. Suicide can affect anyone, even those who aren’t depressed
keep pushing man your not alone alot of people are suffering in these times but they keep on going and im one of them there are hard times we living in but i do everything i can to push forward. idk what i was put on this planet for but until i find that out im just gonna ride things out and hopefully when i get there later in life it should be sun shines and rainbows.

Adept is run by someone I'm not really familiar with and focuses on stuff that has not been done in the official game (dragon redesigns, recolors, new content etc). Basically the official game from a parallel universe. Nekrova on the other side focuses on keeping the game as true as it used to be and is actively trying to buy the actual game IP so they can start on developing and improving on the base game. It's also ran by a friend of mine which I know isn't a total scum (not saying the big shots at Adept are, but I don't know them and private servers always need to be taken with a grain of salt). I think I may or may not have some videos of the game on my channel, can't remember if I set them on public or unlisted. Either way, if you wanna check out the game for what it was I recommend checking out Nekrova's version (aka Dragon's Prophet Legacy). Edit: as you can see from the wall of text I dedicated way too much of my life to that game lmfao. Also the pic itself is the character I was playing back on the official servers.
Hey thats ok, I work on muscle cars and drag cars a lot. You need to always remember that things can and do fail. There was a guy who accidentally went too lean on the nitrous. Meaning the engine didn’t get as much fuel as it needed and got too much air. Well with nitrous that can blow up your engine and blow up his engine it did. One of the pistons decided it was gonna leave work a bit early and went BOOOMMM! Out the side of the block and past some poor SOB’s head almost killing the poor man. Then another guy learned why they make shatter proof bell housings. Word to the wise, DO NOT try to neutral drop your car to win a race, get a proper trans brake. (Neutral dropping is when you rev up the engine in neutral and then drop it into drive. The issue being it can fucking explode and grenade through the floor)
Yeah I had a 17L go FA approximately 25years ago after putting in a titanium firing pin. Obviously out of spec🙄. Fortunately I had it firmly on the shooting bench and it stopped when I got my booger hook off the bang switch. But it did go through 8-10rds pretty quick.
Auto Pistols with 1000rpm are a dumb idea in general...that's why you don't see many designs...Beretta 93R, Glockenspiel 18....The Mauser 712 at least had a stock
Absolutely this. I'm a professional chef and bassist and I've had both an expensive, high quality Japanese knife and new expensive bass strings break on me under what is arguably normal use and add to my scar collection lol. The good thing about expensive products is that they tend to have good warranties if they do fail.
Never thought that Brandon would ever give me an emotional reaction, let alone the chills… But, it was good to hear him speaking out (and his obvious respect) for the gravity of suicide at the end of this episode.
That last one was tragic to hear about. I’m glad you go outta your way to educate gun safety. We need a better society that is willing and able to protect their own
Thank you Brandon for being entertaining while being educational, a down to earth guy and for promoting the importance of good mental health. You're a good man brother
Hey Brandon, as someone who has gone through some rough shit regarding depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation, I just want to say Thankyou so much and I truly appreciate that little segment at the end of the vid about that poor fella and things relating around that clip. You’re a truly great man and Thanks for your words. Keep up the awesome content brother
Coming out about a very personal and sensitive topic shows strength and mental discipline. You are strong. Do not let anybody tell you different. Especially yourself.
Although that last video was incredibly dark, I appreciate your bringing awareness to a very dark topic. I've lost too many to the demons out there that lead to that "self check-out". You are never alone, reach out, make that call, check on those friends you haven't heard from in a while. One call, one drink, one lunch can make all the difference.
Hit me right in the feels with that last bit. Thank you for bringing awareness to the topic of suicide. It is a huge and growing problem that needs more public discussion.
16:25 Brandon, thank you. Mental Health is incredibly important and your speech was incredibly moving. I think you might've just saved several people's lives there. Thank you Brandon.
To be completely honest I'm glad this one ended on a 100% serious note about what any of us could possibly be going through to cause us to want to as Brandon says "punch our own ticket" Because as someone who tries their best to deal with that kind of feeling I appreciate the fact that there are people that are willing to address dark topics like this. And I resonate with how he feels about that video because it really is truly sad and unfortunate.
As someone who’s dealt with PTSD and depression from that, I love how you handled the end my friend. Like you said life’s to short to miss that call or lunch with a friend, hell if you’re dealing with depression life is to short to not make that call to a friend or family member. A great lesson I learned from an old Vietnam vet was that if you’re wanting to end it all, try something risky that you’ve always wanted to do first like starting a business, moving across the country or world, ask that cute guy or girl out, things like that because if you’re so depressed you don’t want to live what have you got to lose? That advice stuck with me, I moved across country took some loans and started a farm, wouldn’t change it for the world now. I’m married now with a 2 year old and another on the way. Don’t be afraid to make that call if you feel like you can’t go on, don’t be afraid to try something you’ve always wanted to do, the days may feel dark but they will get better. Thank you Brandon for bringing light to a dark subject at the end of this video. #AKGNotificationSquad
Great advice and happy to hear you are doing better, finding your happiness! To anyone out there that does not have friends or family, send me a message. I'll be your internet daughter, mother, whatever. Everyone in the gun community needs to know, we are there for our fans and even our haters. Just reach out, we'll talk, maybe you feel better when we are finished, maybe you get pissed off because we don't like the same things or have the same opinions. What matters is that we keep the conversation going, preventing loss of life is our goal... always.
Great message, Brandon. I had a great friend when I was a teenager - we were inseparable for about a year. Sadly, his family moved a few states away and we lost touch after a while. I searched for him just a few years ago, only to find that he had committed suicide not long before I tried to find him. I always wonder if I had found him before, might it have made a difference for him? That thought haunts me terribly.
It's not your fault. Remember the good times, it is what your friend would want. They are never gone as long as we keep them in our minds and talk about them to those we love and care for. Losing friends along the way is something you need to understand and accept as an inevitable part of life. Talk to an older person, they will tell you to reminisce and remember, don't grieve without end.
Your message at the end and the way you handled the discussion around the last video and such a serious topic were incredible! I'm so glad to see a major figure in the gun community address mental health so sincerely and tactfully especially since there are some big issues surrounding both various toxic-mentalities as well as ignoring men's mental health.
Hey Brandon, thank you for showing the difference between Darwin Awards and intentional self-delete. It's a world of difference, as I can attest to. As a responsible firearms owner who also is clinically diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, I know my limits. I know who I can turn to if the thoughts get way too bad for me to fight them on my own. I have my coping mechanisms that my therapist helped me develop over 6 years. Most of all, I have friends I have deliberately asked, time and again, "If I ever call you and ask you to take possession of my guns, you know why." None of them asked any questions, and all of them said they would immediately hop over and keep me safe and my guns safe, until I felt good enough to take possession again. It's important, vitally important, to build a support structure when a person struggles with mental illness. I implore every single person who has a mental illness of any stripe, get the help you need.
good on ya for getting better and i wish that you wont relapse like i did. you are blessed to have good friends wish you luck in all life's endeavors. sincerely a french canadian goose
Thank you, Brandon. Your message at the end needs to reach so many more people. I hope most everyone shares your video just for that message if not for the entertainment value.
While I was in the Navy, I was taking a course that had a lot of small arms training. Before we even got to fire a round, we had to do about a week of combat first aid training (applying tourniquets, nasopharyngeal tube application, sucking chest wound, etc.). In my opinion, it's wise to get trained on first aid before considering getting your first gun. I believe firearms are important and can save lives but I guarantee you, your usage of first aid knowledge is more likely to be used throughout your lifetime. Stay safe and stay trained.
I got first aid training when I worked a job for the government back when I was in highschool doing some landscaping over the summer. Was definitely a fun time because of all the cool cpr dummys and gadgets. Ect. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea for me to take a new course since that was probably going on near ten years ago any all that stuff they taught me is probably outdated. I don't think stuff like that should be required but you're right, it really is some good stuff to know. And if you get a good instructor it's a fun time
It was nice to see someone finally talk about raising awareness to help your friends before its too late. Almost makes me wanna pay this man money, he does positive things for people. Thank you.
Sad part is that even reaching out can be too late. A few years ago I organized a trip to the zoo with a couple of my coworkers. When the day arrived only one of them showed up. Tried to contact the other one but got no answer so we just went ahead and enjoy the day. When we came into work the next day we found out she had killed herself. Apparently she had a bad breakup a year before and had undergone major changes. Gaining weight and dyeing her hair black. I only knew her for a few months so it was only when we tried to find out about her funeral on Facebook that we figured it out. I question sometimes if she used the zoo trip as an excuse make her family think she wasn’t at home.
much respect for taking a moment to address real issues that many face. while we all enjoy your educational videos with a touch of humor to make them entertaining, I believe it is important to address serious topics such as mental health. keep up the fantastic work!
as someone who has struggled with depression since i was a teen and am now 27 and still struggle with it everyday, thank you for your message at the end.
8:00 I think what saved this guy was her incompetence was so high, she was trying to insert the mag backwards... giving the RA enough time to react. Had she inserted the mag correctly the first time... I'd honestly give this guy a 50/50 chance of getting ventilated.
Thanks Brandon. I suffer from depression due to my time in USMC. Hearing someone like you say what you said really hits home. Again. Thanks. Both for what you do and the message you conveyed in this video. It is hard. So very hard at times. I have been tempted before. But I got help. Thanks to people like you. Who actually CARE. Thank you AK Daddy.
You might not realize it but people appreciate and care for you. Life is worth living and most people are kind and willing to help. There is no shame in asking for help, it only proves strength and bad shit can happen to anyone. Glad that you are still with us.
I lost a friend in 2017 due to his struggles with PTSD. Brandon I am man enough to admit your talk at the end made me cry a little. Thank you for spreading awareness for the suicide prevention hotline.
You handled that last part of the video like a champ. It takes a man to talk about their issues. And a one way trip to the forever box isn't one. Check on your friends and keep them close fellas.
Thank you for including the last clip. I truly appreciate the way you handled it, the respect, care and concern you gave for someone you do not know. Thank you for sharing the suicide hotline number. Some people have never felt the despair of hopelessness and do not understand what it does to a man. I was there a few years ago; just knowing that someone care is often enough to change a persons mind.
Thank you for respecting and giving that message at the end, more often than not people will simply say it was too graphic or didn't fit the bill and simply move on, we need more people like you.
The part at the end about not realizing that someone is feeling suicidal hit home for me. A few years ago, a friend killed herself. The last time that I saw her, she was smiling and seemed happy. A few weeks later, I learned that she had taken her own life. Thank you for putting this thought (checking up on your friends) out there, Brandon.
Brandon, the last few minutes of this video were more powerful than anything else featured on your channel, and there have been some powerful weapons on here. Kudos to you and if it makes 1 person think, then your a hero in my eyes!
I know I’m late Brandon, but your suicide talk at the end of the video hit me hard, and made me end up crying because, literally 2 weeks ago I tried to end my own life, as a soldier in the US Army, and the only reason I am still alive is because a teammate of mine had come to check on me, and I am still struggling with the depth of my depression and am still on the road that can lead me away from suicide or back to it, but listening to you made me take a few steps away Brandon. You are a fantastic guntuber and i just want to say please keep up the amazing work you do.
Hey Brother. I've been through a lot myself with three tours of Iraq and being the immediate military response to 9/11. Vet Centers helped me through it all!!! There's great people there and the organization was started by Vietnam Vets for exactly that reason. I've never been let down by my compadres that I've met there and we all keep tabs on each other. We all lost too many Soldiers to making a permanent decision on a temporary issue; I truly lost count of Soldiers I served with that took that route. If I can, you can. I hope this helps.
Surprisingly, the ones there for me when I was at that point were my leadership. Times were tough and we were so understaffed I was an E3 being made acting squad leader. Eventually all the stress tipped me over the edge, and I really thought I was going to do it. It was the NCO on CQ at the time that for certain reasons noticed I was having a breakdown and reported it. Surprisingly, a lot of effort went into accommodating me once leadership knew how much I was struggling. My workload diminished and 12+ hour days were no longer common, the battery commander even sent me back to the barracks a few times I was staying late to work on something. For a couple months the battalion commander and SGM would personally stop by to see how I was doing. What I'm saying is don't fall into the mindset of being afraid of your unit finding out when you're losing it. When you hit your breaking point, say something.
Hold in there brother, respect to you for working on recovery and for your service! Good luck on journey it’ll be difficult and you might face set backs but if you do you should use those set backs as motivation to push forward💪
Thank you for showing me the show. And the one clip that you can't show I thank you for being so thoughtful, I have been there and some time it only takes one kind thing to help. You are doing great job with your work.
These videos are actually very effective when it comes to encouraging gun safety. In my opinion this type of content should be monetized and encouraged because it fr can save lives. Well done Brandon.
"These videos are actually very effective when it comes to encouraging gun safety." How is this in anyway effective? "monetized and encouraged" So laughing at people who end up accidentally shooting their friends/acquaintance should be encouraged? Like don't get me wrong I'm in no way hating on Brandon but to act like these videos make a difference or are in anyway "helpful" is not only stupid but incredibly disingenuous.
Thanks Brandon, keep spreading that love and awareness I tried hard, I Was in Afghanistan in 09. Lost a buddy there, I got home, went to school, became a medical professional. I thought that I could help myself by helping others. I descended into madness, lying to myself. I eventually lost my job and my apartment, nearly lost my life to my own hand. I was on a waiting list for the VA for months until the police got involved because I tried to kill myself. I can no longer work and am fully disabled, even though I look fine on the outside. Counselling and medication keeps me functional, but just barely. There are not enough resources out there to help all the vets that need it and I know there are guys and girls much worse off than me. And we are also part of the problem, because someone who is a warrior, who is willing to die for others and sees themselves as a protector feels weak and powerless when asking for help. It takes more strength than we ever showed in battle to admit that we can't beat something, when all our lives we've been beating the odds, overcoming impossible obstacles, doing things that normal people would never attempt. But even we can't fight the demons in our head alone. Nobody can.
For coming out about such a sensitive topic, even carrying on and not trying again, you are strong. You are strong and do not let anybody, especially yourself, tell you any differently because that's who you are. You deserve all of the dedication and compassion you've given to other people and more. It may have been nothing but a trail of tears and dust, but there is a rose ahead somewhere. Maybe two for a person like you.
Big ups to you brother stay strong. Life has an odd way of showing you the lighter things in life everyday. Whether it’s the birds chirping, you looking around, remembering that there is no one around to hurt you anymore. And everything gon be okay. So sit back, light a dart, enjoy every sunrise and sunfall for what it is.
Keep going man. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. You were made with a purpose. Thank you so much for your vulnerability and sharing this with others who need it. Take care.
I am not a man of many words. However, all I have to say is you're not alone. Do your best to keep a clear and healthy mind. There will always be things in life that try to keep you down whatever it is. It is your job to stay strong for yourself and others, even if that means you need to ask or confide in someone for help. Thank you for everything you have sacrificed, you are loved.
I know I’m a year late but Brandon that little talk for the last like 3 mins it made me tear up man I’ve felt invisible for the past couple months of my life and looking into you’re eyes even if it was through a screen made me feel seen again so thank you man
Just whenever I thought Brandon Herrera couldn't be any more of a bro and a friend he hits us with that outro that really hit close to home. As somebody who enjoys Firearms myself and occasionally deals with depression it was really nice to see your encouragement of people who are dealing with suicidal depression to reach out and encouraging them not to commit suicide. Goes a long way man. Huge respect.
Brandon Herrera, 15:38 It is not russian solder, just ukranian nazi solder on donbas. he did not kill himself, he argued with his colleagues that he could not weakly press the trigger and check if the machine gun was loaded? From Russia with love.
@Austin Smothers it's the same for me as well. I deal with this shit on a daily basis but I surround myself with great friends and family who knows about it and they check on me a lot. I have told ppl that I didn't even know that well that deals with this that they could always call me if they go to far down the rabbit hole. It's tough at times but to anyone who reads this and deals with this just know it will get better. Don't let this health issue take you out bc not only do you leave behind your family and friends but ppl who care and love you. Tell someone you can trust at the very least.❤️ ❤
I actually got into firearms just to find out what would do the job the quickest until one of my friends taught me about guns and told me he had a place to stay and I've almost been here for a year now living nicely with my guns and friends
My uncle and the guys he was training with, came near winning a Darwin award. At the beginning of WWII, he was in training at Camp Roberts California, in the artillery. At the time they were training on a 105mm pack howitzer. Someone had the bright idea to crank the tube straight up then fire the gun. The entire gun crew came to the same realization just after they fired the 105mm round straight up. Where will the round land when it falls to earth! They all ran of in different directions. Fortunately, the round they fired was a non explosive type. They heard it hit the ground but never did find a hole in the ground. No soldiers were injured or killed in this attempt a winning a Darwin award!
Howitzer can't usually go that steep, but there's a German anti aircraft cannon with 105mm that definitely could do that. That's why FLAK munitions have a time fuse so that they explode in air even if they don't come close to the target...
@@edi9892 It was a pack howitzer that could be disassembled and loaded on 3, 4, or 5 mules. I'm guessing because it could be disassembled, that allowed it to be fired straight up. If it is the kind of gun I have looked at, it recoils backward without the tube moving on rails or hydraulics, if you understand what I mean.
7:45 That’s one reason I take issue with cameras & beginners/novices videoing themselves at the range. Dude is too occupied with the damn camera to even realize he has a firearm aimed point blank to his chest!
As someone that's a gun owner that suffers from depression it's hard sometimes but remembering all the love ones helps a lot but my heart goes out to all the people who suffer without what I hold close to my heart. Thanks Brandon for all the videos and humor.
If it helps think of it this way you might think you don’t matter or that no one cares but you might be actually someone’s sun sound cringe I know but when you have a chance pay attention to the people around you more than one person for sure smiles when they see you
I am glad that Brandon put the note about self-alt-F4 at the end. I've always found it disgusting that people think actual suicide is a hilarious. And as someone who suffers from depression (not to *that* degree), it's always nice when people spread awareness and try to help make sure we don't pointlessly lose anyone else.
I know. Why do people actually find it funny to look at gory images and people killing themselves/being executed by the Taliban etc. I don't even get it from a sort of fucked sense of humour standpoint. It's just depression fuel imo.
@@conradleffman8393 some people laugh cause they've seen shit like that irl and laughing about it makes it easier to live with what they've seen... At least that's how it is for me xD I know it's completely fucked up but hey if I can laugh about it it can't be that bad, and if it ain't that bad it doesn't hurt me as much
@@conradleffman8393 the only thing i founf funny about isis type execution videos are how cinematic it is and how they probably rehearsed those things to make it more like that
When I was part of an emergency response team one of the things we dealt with was that in emergency situations it is actually very common for most bystanders to shut down, whether it be from fear or their brain vapor-locks from confusion as they try to comprehend what they are witnessing. A perfect example is this clip you showed where the guy shoots his range buddy at the counter and only one person reacted in a constructive way while everyone else stood there and watched. Oftentimes the bystanders can be very pleasant folks and mean well, it’s just how some people’s brains are wired to handled shocking situations like that.
Many people aren't "chill and uncaring", they may just not know how to react when shit goes down. Bad thing when internet folk blames witnesses for not helping when they were too shocked for it.
If they know effective first aide, I want them to help. If they can, I want them to call 911. If neither of those apply, I would prefer them to stay back. Last think you need is 10 people coming in trying to help who have no idea how. Most people don't.
Brandon, that was incredibly well done. I refer to the whole video, but especially the last bit. Thank you, both for the message, and for sharing it so well. Seriously. Thank you.
Brandon Herrera, 15:38 It is not russian solder, just ukranian nazi solder on donbas. he did not kill himself, he argued with his colleagues that he could not weakly press the trigger and check if the machine gun was loaded? From Russia with love.
I understand the necessity of gun safety having suffered a point blank negligent discharge of a pistol with no magazine, had been racked 3 times and had the slide pin removed. But I was complacent and had not visually inspected the chamber or I would have seen the round that was somehow stuck to the bolt and was just being quickly removed and reinserted into the breach
Just started watching your content (not just the Darwin Award) and you do a great job. You keep it fun/ funny and informative, but the end of this video really goes to show how much you care about people and their safety as a whole. Thanks for keeping it light, but also stepping back and addressing a serious issue the right way.
That final talk about "punching your own ticket" was beautiful. Made me want to call some of my friends to see it they're okay. Thank you Brandon, for what you do, and for being a great "Comrade" (coming from a Ukrainian) love your content
That part at the end brought tears to my eyes, as I have both known people who tried to take the express exit and been one myself. Normally these sorts of PSAs come off as pro-forma and not really meant. This was one done very well, with the abrupt shift in tone and the explanation of why that video was different. From the bottom of my heart, Brandon, thank you.
Your words at the end are greatly appreciated, Brandon. I’ve lost a friend to suicide and have been struggling with depression for as long as I can remember. Thank you for making me feel a little bit better. Much love to you.
If I wasn’t already subscribed to Brandon, I would have subbed just from the fact he has such good words for those who are suicidal he’s probably helped loads of those who happen upon this video randomly good job Brandon
That finger was on the trigger It was Glock so no safe She was about to ram the magazine in She was as close to live as you get without on in the chamber
Loved the video. Thank you for the message at the end about the self check out line, the phone number, and the "she's probably loaded" comment. You're spot on with two out of three and most likely the 3rd.

Thank you Brandon, very cool!
I never thought I'd see the day where Brandon Herrera made me cry. That was an incredibly heart felt monologue on helping those that suffer from depression. Bravo.
Same here
Yeah, he looked like he was about to cry. I wonder if that hit close to home for him in some way.
Absolute chad move. Brought us here for laughs and sent us into the feel..
what is wrong with you? i was also surprised for his serious talk. But get your shit together and grow a beard.
Maybe I'm just jaded, but whenever I hear someone speak about suicides, I always think it's virtue signalling.

I have yet to find those ppl to talk to 🫤🥀💔
I had a friend “punch their own ticket in the self checkout line” just a couple months ago. Thank you for not showing the end of that video and also thanks for your words about mental health. It was super hard processing that someone I had taught to shoot years earlier would do that. It is so true that only you can protect yourself from yourself. R.I.P Matt
Sending good vibes to you my friend
Several years ago, I missed an opportunity to "have that one lunch that might make all the difference". My buddy randomly came over really late, just wanted to talk, but I was tired and I had work very early in the morning -- last time I saw him. I still think about him all the time. RIP Chad, and RIP to your friend, Matt. They won't be forgotten.

Sadly getting to that ONE important lunch is getting more and more difficult with how expensive basic stuff like minced beef has become.
So just go talk. It's still free.
It's not the price of the lunch that counts, it's being with someone.

Really appreciate how Brandon talked about mental health awareness and how most of the time you never know how others are struggling. As well as helping new shooters about how firearms are fun yet need to always be taken very seriously.
Like robin williams. Always the last person you’d expect
Brandon handled that segment really well
Sadly, not all people are as nice and understanding as he is
Most think that if they can't relate, then whatever it is you're dealing with is some kind frivolous crap that is not even worth mentioning

Another episode of "Brandon definitely can't show the end of this video."
This comment was originally a joke, but with that somber ending, it feels quite fitting.

Accurate though
Can you explain it for me ? I’m knew to this channel ?
@@MM-qi5mk Brandon usually does gun content and one of his pieces is "the Darwin awards" most of the time the end is nsfw so yeah.

No shit, man, very true. We normally don't think about this.

Your brother sounds like a jerk. You should probably have called the cops on him
Brandon, that last bit wasn't something I expected but something I appreciate. Just don't punch your own damned ticket.
we need more people like you. Thank you.
i do almost everything you described & am not currently suicidal.... but still good message :P

There are nowords for a situation like this, only the emptiness and heartbreak. take care.

@@anonymousnotthegroup6013 Dragon's Prophet, a game that closed their official servers a bit more than a year ago. There's still 2 big private servers active, Adept and Nekrova.

The guy with the auto glock actually had generally good gun safety in general. I like including this one as an example of "equipment CAN fail"
Yall seen that automatic deagle with a pistol grip?! I'd never shoot that shit. Thats just asking for a self headshot .-.

Good to know I'm not the only one
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your story

And if you get a good instructor it's a fun time
Can't agree more a good foundation on firearms safety and combat first aid is a great thing for people new to firearms

As someone who’s felt many times like joining the self checkout line all I can say is that meant more than I know how to explain

Thank you for including the last clip. I truly appreciate the way you handled it, the respect, care and concern you gave for someone you do not know. Thank you for sharing the suicide hotline number.
Bro NO! Hang in there buddy! We all been there bro!

Thanks Brandon, keep spreading that love and awareness
I tried hard, I Was in Afghanistan in 09.

I've seen that game played with a basketball, I'm not surprised artillery crews have tried it
Howitzer can't usually go that steep, but there's a German anti aircraft cannon with 105mm that definitely could do that. That's why FLAK munitions have a time fuse so that they explode in air even if they don't come close to the target...
@Nicholas Darryl H. if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.

@@edi9892 It was a pack howitzer that could be disassembled and loaded on 3, 4, or 5 mules. I'm guessing because it could be disassembled, that allowed it to be fired straight up.

Yeah He has some dog shit takes sometimes but he understands you can't be a total cynic
@@Alexander-cg1ey fax lmao💀
My heart rate went through the roof when the British girl was flagging the dude beside her, even though the gun wasn't even in battery.
That finger was on the trigger
It was Glock so no safe
She was about to ram the magazine in
She was as close to live as you get without on in the chamber
I am surprised the RSO didn't kick them out
Loved the video. Thank you for the message at the end about the self check out line, the phone number, and the "she's probably loaded" comment. You're spot on with two out of three and most likely the 3rd.
