You should do it, it’s not actually too hard after your first repair, a good way is to practice with a doner phone (probably iCloud locked or something) and take off every part and put it back together
A A well one time, i bought a 6s that had no power and I specifically asked the seller if it was water damged and icloud status. He said no water had gotten in and icloud was removed. And after wards i asked him if i could chat with the previous owner because it was stolen. And he said all he knew was that it was passcode locked. Didnt admit it till after I bought :(
@@ryansumner3662 Try buying from eBay, usually items will have a 30-day return policy and that way if the iPhone isn't the way it was advertised, you can always return it and get your money back.
Good job Hugh. Cellphones are an individuals most important possession and so it makes a lot of sense to be able to repair these essential and very expensive devices.
I just changed out the battery in my S9. It had bulged and separated the back from the frame...which made it easy to take the back off. It was easy, EXCEPT, the adhesive. The majority of my battery replacement effort was cleaning the old adhesive off. I got an iFixit S9 battery tool set and seals and that made the battery replacement effort easier. I watched this video to get an idea of the process, then spent 90 minutes doing the job...mostly scraping and cleaning with isopropyl alcohol. Thanks for producing your videos on RUclips, they have encouraged me to repair my own phone.
@@zackbritton4446 they do not throw it away. In the U.S the Companies have insurence that people can pay for each month and if the phone break just pay 30 to 40 dollars and you will get a new phone but you have to give the old one back to the company.
@Arshiya 123 you're right these models are more fragile compared to previous models. Expansive displays almost half the price of mobile but there are curved screen protectors available just a bit expansive. I used S8 plus with original soft back cover, and curved glass screen protector for barely a month before someone else liked it and stole it from me 🤥
Use hot air to remove the components that are held with adhesive. Like the speaker, or the Copper foil. Don't just rip them apart. Otherwise you have done a great job
I work on Samsung devices for their warranty repairs, hot air will help but honestly not necessary if cautious. Samsung has us just replace most of those parts but you can carefully transfer the copper foil. Main issue not addressed, unless I missed it, is using the *#0*# to test everything after the repair. Samsung gives us programs to test the devices, but I don’t know if it’s open to the public. If it’s not your best bet is using the *#0*# to open a menu. Verizon Cartier phones can run into issues with this menu however there are work arounds for that, I just don’t know if it’s open to the public.
Much more repair-friendly than the Apple iPhone and iPad. Only one screwdriver bit required, a few screws, easy access to major components and nothing is paired to the device.
One of the best part of Hugh Jeffreys’ videos is the way he speaks with such fluency! Whether he reads the script or speaks as it is, it’s still impressive!
Thanks for you kind words. Most of what I say in my videos is just off the top of my head. I only really script what to say at the very beginning and end.
Wow you won't believe it, few years ago my Xiaomi Mi 4 LCD panel failed and went black, the front glass was fine but the protector was chipped and cracked, I sent it for warranty the way it was and they changed my lcd, and installed a new glass protector! Funny thing is, the same happened to a friend and he removed his cracked protector and sent it, didn't get a new protector from them lol. Btw as the heat pipes are connected to the display, a protector does have a effect on cooling but that must be ever so slightly...
Yeah, stupid curved edges on samsung . The protective case picks the screen up and it always shows some air bubbles. I never had this problem with my old sony phone
I usually don't subscribe to any youtube channel but this guy is impressive and definitely helpful to many people out there. I broke three phones (just screens) and I threw it all away haha.
Thanks to this guy, repaired my coral blue Galaxy S9 Plus. My first course of action was to get a hair dryer and soften the adhesive until it was removable. I cut into it and took the back off being mindful of the finger print reader. After cleaning all of the adhesive off, I went into the phone and stripped the entire thing to replace the USB circuit and the battery. After putting a new back panel on, The phone worked like new.

I would like to ask you a question, since I see you are really good at fixing iPhone, I was wondering if u can tell me whats wrong with mine iPhone 7: I opened it for some dumb reason and accidentally broke the front camera flex cable, and lost 1 screw for the bracket (for the front camera connector) and when i placed everything back my iPhone was glitching, not bad but it had some white lines on the screen and home button was not working at all, but the problem is I didnt touched the home button at all so i how could it mess, and what could cause the screen to have that lines and glitches (touch is working perfectly) ?
Best thing to do is smash the bottom of the screen just under the lcd on the old screen and snap off the frame, then take it off with ease, the bad thing is that it does cost the old screen but if you were gonna bin it then who cares
For a normal person probably more than it’s worth, depending on the age and type of phone, it’s usually cheaper to just sell it on eBay as for parts and buy another phone
Hey Jerry, the screen protectors you bought which weren't glass are actually hydrogell protectors, which are a weird liquid/solid polymer, which isnt as strong as glass, but can supposedly "heal" its self
Can you add the overall cost of your repairs? It would be even more interesting. Price for the broken device, for the spare parts, overall time you took for the repair. Thank you!

Samsung told me off for having a glass screen protector. They said it would over heat my phone

To be fair, samsung uses the screen to dissipate heat as well. The logic is there, but... it doesn't matter.
Tempered glass screen protectors are daunting because the adhesive are only on the edges due to the curved screen, obviously.
