    I was happy to purchase a rather new, very gently used Remarkable 2. Including plenty of tips, case and everything that comes when buying brand new. The owner wanted to upgrade to the Paper Pro and sold me their RM2 for $250, needless to say I was very happy with that.

    I just received my remarkable paper pro. It took me exactly 20 minutes to put it back in its box and request a refund. This is nowhere near the experience of a remarkable 2. The noice is the worst. It sounds like writing on an iPad. Gone is the paper sound. Its hard surface sound is horrible. I can imagine in a meeting to get all the attention I don’t want. That is the main reason I don’t use my iPad anymore for this kind of thing. Also the refresh is very disturbing. When using color the repeated refresh is very distracting. It feels like good quality, but so does my remarkable 2. Another very disturbing thing is using the marker. Even after erasing you can still see the ghosting until you switch off and on again. Very strange. I am waiting for the remarkable 3, hopefully arriving next year. I don’t need color, backlight (hardly works), or the bigger size. For some it might work, but for me, using it purely as a paper replacement, note taking, and generally practicing my hand-writing, the remarkable 2 is perfect.

    I fell in love with the reMarkable 2 back in 2020. It was a spontaneous pandemic purchase that turned out to be something that fit perfectly into my old-fashioned technology life. (I'm a paper/fountain pen guy.) I've used it heavily since then, and even bought the type-folio. The type-folio has proven to be more of a luxury, but I do like it.
    I was in love when I heard about the color. I was going to wait, but eventually caved in. I'm not making house payments as of last spring, and decided I'm allowed to treat myself occasionally. It should arrive next week, but I'm excited about the addition of color to this device. I've been using it through my computer on the reMarkable app. Having it on my reMarkable will be even better. Of course, proof is in the pudding.
    The high-pitched noise might bother me. I attended a conference this week where this noise was in the air, and it was rough being in that room. I'm supposed to be too old to hear those high-pitched sounds! So, I'm curious to find out what I think.

    • @WaskiSquirrel
      @WaskiSquirrel 20 дней назад

      @@CyberCelt. I now own one. I don't hear the noise at all. Sometimes, a page is slower to load. I also find the sometimes a page can have lots of flashing as the colors render.
      But, mostly, the operating system restricts the flashing to one part of the page and manages the rest quite well. I'm thrilled with it to the point that I'm giving my remarkable 2 as a gift. And the color is a great addition.

    Thanks for this review. I'm new to the e-ink market, moving from an iPad. I just purchased the R2 but then weeks later the Pro version dropped. Now I'm not sure what to do. I might take your suggestion and buy the Pro, compare them myself, and return one of them within the allowed 100 days. My question is about the possibility of a R3. Is the Pro model the R3 that everyone was anticipating? Or is the Pro a completely new line of e-ink tablets for Remarkable that will have its own, separate upgrades? If so, do you think there will be a R3 coming in the future? I saw your other video about the possibility of an R3, but being new to this space, I can't tell if the Pro is the R3 or if they now have two signature devices (i.e. R1, R2, R3, etc. versus the Pro editions). I hope that makes sense! LOL Thanks!

    • @bodendorfer
      @bodendorfer  Месяц назад +2

      I think the pro is going to be its own line. If we see a R3, it will most likely still be monochrome. At least that is my thoughts.

      bought a remarkable 2 a month or two ago, using it for graduate courses and work. There really isnt any noticeable lag for me, and I would say the one thing that attracts people to these things is that the writing experience is phenomenal...coming from a person who has used pencil + paper note taking my entire undergrad, this thing would have replaced about 15 three-ring binders full of notes. I take more notes now that I have it, since it is so convenient. The straight line tool is also a HUGE deal (compared to regular pencil paper) since my major requires me to draw a thousand block diagrams everyday. (most writing tablets have this tool, but its definitely something to think of coming from pencil/paper) I would pay $1k for this device and it would still be worth it to me, knowing what I know now...but go to a best buy and try it out, they usually have one on display.

      As you use the device, you don't notice much lag. Keep in mind you are on a single page for a long period of time as you are taking or reviewing notes. You generally are not using the device for browsing page to page.

      Actually I use the rm2 for reading but scientific texts or books rather than "Kindie literature". I never missed the option for Kindie because I just have my books as epub or pdf which is no problem. I spend 60% reading and 40% writing/notes/being creative. The marker upgrade on rm2, that you can switch between marker and pen was massive and I love it. This should work for social scientists much more fluent than before. I love to read books with the rm because my notes are online too.

  • @harper7563
    @harper7563 2 месяца назад

    Also a question, would you be able to showcase some of the colors more? Like its capable of a lot more colors than you can write with right? Or has the full capability of the 20,000 colors not come yet? I could be mistaken but if you had images or other more colorful pdfs wouldn't it offer a better idea of the color capabilities? I could be totally mistaken just curious.

    I'm currently looking into these, having had an ad served to me - am I mistaken or have these nearly doubled in price since a year or two ago? I remember discovering these a while back and thinking "Hey that's actually a good price" but now I feel it's overpriced?

    • @lovely7840
      @lovely7840 2 месяца назад +3

      Hi, colour devices are generally much more expensive than the black-and-white ones. It's a relatively recent, more complex technology and not available on most e-ink devices, hence the price will always be higher than the price of a black-and-white ereader.
      Also, larger screens always mean a substantial increase in price.
      So it's not that the reader itself is more expensive than a similar reader-it's that the new device is colour, and has a larger screen, and better technology.
      That being said, Remarkable is generally more expensive (and in my opinion, somewhat inferior), to Boox devices, which are cheaper and have more features, plus can often double as an Android tablet, on which you can install apps.
      The newer Boox devices can even play videos (not like a real tablet, of course, but still), which is absolutely amazing for e-ink, which has slow refresh rates and is not designed for moving pictures or animation.
      My Boox is about 3-4 years old, and even that one can play videos in black and white, and offers much more than many devices on the market today (including the Remarkable, which is not so remarkable when you compare it with the number of features the Boox offers!)
