After an epic combat performance in the Battle of Stalingrad (enemy at the gates), the 62nd Army was granted Guards status and renamed the 8th Guards Army in April 1943...On 13 September 1942 the Army composition was: 33rd, 35th Guards, 87th, 98th, 112th, 131st, 196th, 229th, 244th, 315th, 399th Rifle Divisions 10th, 38th, 42nd, 115th, 124th, 129th, 149th Rifle Brigades post 9-27-1942 193rd Rifle Division 23rd Tank Corps 20th Tank Destroyer Brigade 115th Fortified Region twelve artillery and mortar regiments.... ...23rd tank corps..... T-34's @Warzan, you wanted something easier to paint :D ( or someone else to pant ;) )
Give the video a quick look. I'll need to watch it again to make notes of where you went wrong :-) I have Italians and Finns with Romanians to come. It's a great game. First free tip, if you're facing a Tiger 2 in a 1000pt game, ignore it, concentrate on the other stuff.
Great work Gents, I bought the rule book and German army book after watching your two part intro game a few weeks ago. I have since ordered about 2000 points of late war fallschirmjäger with support vehicles, artillery and Tanks which hopefully arrives this week so I can start painting them up.
So never played any type of table top war game. Love WW2 history, been thinking of getting into scale modelling and this seems like a great game. I don't have any chums that would want to get into this hobby so I'd probably join a local club. These Bolt Action videos are getting on for 3+ years old now so my question is do people still play Bolt Action? Is there a list of UK BoltAction clubs available anywhere?
warren, I suggest to model your soviet army off of the 11th guards tank corps. The 11th Guards Tank Division can trace its history back to 10 April 1942 when the 6th Tank Corps was formed in the Moscow Defense Zone. It took part in the Battle of Kursk, then across Ukraine with the Central, Belorussian, and 1st Belorussian Fronts. On 23 October 1943, it was awarded ‘Guards’ status and re-designated the 11th Guards Tank Corps. It ended the war in the Berlin area. long story short it's a division of bad-asses. In case people have no idea what the battles listed above are (warren) let me help you out. Kursk is the biggest tank battle ever but also suits bolt action well as 1,30000 soviet men fought at the battle. Hope this has given you a useful insight.
for you to find a theme for the russian army try the tv serie soviet storm all the different special gruops will be showed to you, and if you look for heavy tanks try episode 10 where you get introduced to the is-2 maybe the 3rd ukrainian front or perhabs the 61st guards tank brigade
Late War Soviets is the ticket... they were surrounding and taking out German armies with a lot of focus on mobile artillery power. The more automatics you can get your hands on the better. I say go for the 8th Guards Army.
If you are going to play a more late war kind of army, T-34/85s are definately very good. If you want a bit more 'bang' (Which I'm sure everyone does) maybe try to create an IS-2 Guards Platoon. I don't know, this comment probably isn't relevant anymore, but it's here anyways.
By taking inspiration from "Enemy at the Gates", the Soviet army will surely end up more like an Imperial Guard army than a historical Soviet one hehe.
With a T-34/85? Play a Kursk list. Its a shame the starter box is firmly a mid to late set. Early war Soviets are fun. Strange he was laughing at the AT rifle... hasnt he heard of the BOYS AT rifle of British use? However in BA its not of a massive amount if use, extra dice generation and for a lucky flank shot. I still use em, but dont rely in it.
You know guys, I love your Flames of War videos and want to pick it up, but I've waited so long for Bolt Action videos and now I want to pick this up, too. What are you doing to my wallet, fellas?
I've started on the Soviets, and I am going a little bit comic book on em! I'm exagerating the whole soviet theme like C&C Red Alert! I also want some Tesla Troopers and fit them into the game but, this is not historically accurate at all! Those who are into realism and reinactment will be aghast!
Not your best video. Three words on the Pacific (Japanese were never mentioned). Sadly, not about choosing an army or army options. More about how to build your Russians. You owe us a video about this topic.
BALLS ( bolt action locked and loaded show)

As a newbie to the game these types of videos are really helpful.
As I work on assembling my BA veteran grenadiers, I have to say I'm looking forward to your progress!
I like this. I enjoy these challenges for collecting and painting. Good luck!
Im sooooo looking forward to this! I loved your Demo games from so long ago

Having just played my first game of bolt action I will be following this series with great interest. My first bit of advice is avoid flamethrower's!!
it would be interesting that you make this show like there was article in WD "tale of 4 gamers" and that way you develop yours armies
Will there be a follow-up video with your armies?
Where do you find a good starters list? Just gat the us army starter
What a coincidence, I finally picked up the Bolt Action rulebook today. I'm looking forward to this show.
Cool video. I'm looking to get started now that the second edition has been out for a bit.
im in love with you all now for starting a bolt action thing :)
Warren. Trust me in this. Get a KV-2. They are hilarious looking and they have a giant gun. :D
You forgot to actually add the l inks to the demo games. Look forward to the series.
patiently waiting for updates to this series
Can't wait to see more of this series. I see some of the others noticed "The Big B.A.L.L.S" LOL!!
Nice! Enjoyed your FOW alot. Looking forward to this :)
I miss Beasts of War. Why do you guys never come up in recommendations anymore?
Are you guys going to do part II or what?
The anti tank rifle can take out a Tiger if they hit the top armor because even on a Tiger II it's pretty thin.
Great idea, can't wait!
Awe. I wanted to see Warren do another Pulp fiction/fantasy army.
I'm doing Italian Bersaglieri for the upcoming Italian campaign book 🇮🇹
The black haired guy is like a neerdy Set Rogan. I love it!
Long lost brother?
I'd say bring them together. Forget the hemsworth brothers and go for the Rogans! Your Rogan has the better accent though.
None of you would stand a chance against my Belgians.
Andy2D6 bet! My airborne would eat your guys asses easily;)
We will resit and bite bite hard
waited for this since July 25, 2013!!!!! finally!!!!! AARRRGGHH BALLS XD cant wait!! you guys actually got me into the hobby and into bolt action !!

Need to play some BA again. Sadly its quite easy to break and people here went off it.

Ive been waiting for this!!!
Any of the Kursk boys would probably be a safe bet.
Non of my friends are into these type of games. Were can I find better friends ?

More bolt action videos please!
go with 3rd guards rifle division
The PTRS could probably knock out a tiger, but only with a shot to the engine deck or somewhere weak like that
Yea the roof only really.
Looking forward to this.
is 2, tank riders, some scouts, infantry, watch the Sherman pack up and go home !! well hopefully
CANT WAIT! I wish there were BA players in my area.

Please get an IS2 or an Su100
Guards armoured.... Lots and lots of T-34s
If anyone is into the desert campaigns then check what the Perry's have been up too. :-)
Good show chaps!
Get a su152, fun vaporising the enemy in one 152mm HE hug
By taking inspiration from "Enemy at the Gates", the Soviet army will surely end up more like an Imperial Guard army than a historical Soviet one hehe.
get a scout car, they are AWSOME in an infantry game and the Rusisians (off course) have some nice ones.
I'm excited
Great video can you go give me some advice on my table because im just getting started

We used PTRS and PTRD.
Protivotankovoje Ružjo Simonova\Degtjarjova.
Can't wait!
MOAR!!!!!
You named your show BALLS
You know guys, I love your Flames of War videos and want to pick it up, but I've waited so long for Bolt Action videos and now I want to pick this up, too.
What are you doing to my wallet, fellas?
Yeah mate 8th guards
B.A.L.L.S
General Zhukov.
B.A.L.L.S.....I see what you did there :D
My advice for the starter list Warren is that if you are having SMGs in your squads don't have LMGs, well don't have LMGs in general really
Guards rifle battalion.
I've started on the Soviets, and I am going a little bit comic book on em! I'm exagerating the whole soviet theme like C&C Red Alert! I also want some Tesla Troopers and fit them into the game but, this is not historically accurate at all! Those who are into realism and reinactment will be aghast!
B.A.L.L.S!!!!
at last!

So sad how this show title would get everything and everyone cancelled in 2021...
Every time I hear Italians I laugh.
Oh look Warren is yawning at the history again. Getting a bit old now.
Love the title LOL
See tinydesigner UK web site for bolt action kit
get some dog mines for your Russian army.
HAHAHA soviet "structure"
