In this video I'll show you how to fix and enable the fingerprint scanner on HP laptops using windows hello instead of HP simplepass/protect tools.
If this method doesn't work for you, just let me know and I will suggest other methods depending on your laptop and OS.

IT WORKS!! at first, I was like “nah, it won’t work because my issue and yours are not the same.” still, I did follow the step, and finally, finally, after watching some tutorials, yours is the only one that works. thanks again!
Awesome! After deleting the default driver and then restarting my HP ProBook, the Synaptics driver just appeared as a biometric device without me ever downloading it. It didn't even go through the install process and it NOT a hidden device. My fingerprints are now loaded. Thank you SO much!
Thank you, my fingerprint works!!! I needed to uninstall the driver. When I rebooted my laptop it works without install other driver. LOL

hi i just found this tutorial and i find it amazing, but i've been stuck afer finish installing snaptycs, the "unknown devices" not shown on my device manager everywhere. my device is hp elite x2 gen1. I hope you can help. Thankyou in advance.

Finally it works for me, HP 2540p! But initially the led device comes back. So I cut off the WiFi and uninstall old-install new as advised. And it works.

Hello.. My 'other devices' section has only one sub section and that is "Base System Device"... Now how can I get "Unknown Device" section?

It freaking worked!!!!!! Thanks so much! I have an HP Pavilion dv6 and I have literally never used the fingerprint sensor since it was updated from windows 7 to windows 10. While the steps didn't work as smoothly as they did in your video it does work!! What was happening to me was that when I uninstalled the driver it would just reinstall every time I restarted the computer or let it sit for a few minutes, so I had to do some research and I found out that I had to install one of microsoft's tools called hide or show windows updates and once I hid the update that it detected I was able to uninstall the driver completely and install the new one. Then all I had to do was install the driver then go to the windows update and security settings and check for updates and after it installed an update to the driver it worked with windows hello! Funnily enough, this 9 year old laptop has a better fingerprint sensor than my 3 year old phone! XD

After you have installed the driver, you have to update the unknown driver, then only it will show.(4:28 to 7:30)

It is showing ❗with both unknown devices but beneath them there is also a Validity Sensor (WBF) (PID=003d) What should I do.

I updated the validity sensor driver and it worked for me after restarting.
HI...thanks so much, i had synaptics driver showing under biometrics, however it had a yellow triangle with exclamation point. so i figured it was outdated driver. I uninstalled it and reinstalled the updated driver...Thanks for the website!!! It works!!!
I uninstalled the system's driver and installed the driver from the link. However, it's showing the caution sign(exclamation stuff). My fingerprint sensor is yet to respond still.
I've tried almost everything I find on the internet. Bu still no luck, when ever I try to add my fingerprint on my ASUSPRO P2530U it gives me "That fingerprint has already been set up on another account. Try different finger."

My fingerprint scanner never worked, when I bought my laptop brand new it just didn't work. It had an exclamation point next to it in Device Manager so I deleted the driver, do I follow the same steps here any Idea what driver I need to dl?

One of your steps is to remove Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver in the Software Section if you have it. I do not have it but I do have HP SimplePass. Would you recommend removing this? I did not see it in your video while you were scrolling down the list of programs when you were searching for Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver. I have an HP Envy DV7 laptop.

When I went to the link, I could not find the synaptics finger driver. My laptop acts like it doesn't have a finger print scanner built in, but it does.

Just in case you were unable to fix it, I think I found a solution. At the top left of the device manager tab, there should be an icon that says "Scan for hardware changes" clicking on that will automatically install the drivers (Once you download the driver and run it). If that doesn't work, I'm sorry, but it worked for me.

Thanks for this straightforward solution! The only difference was that the Synaptics fingerprint driver was installed automatically and the "003f" variant was the default.

Found out on how on nearly every HP laptop with fingerprint readers can allow you to install the driver.
Just follow the video and when your PC have Microsoft basic validity sensor installed. Just update your driver and then "browse my computer for driver software" then "let me pick from a list", uncheck "show compatible hardware" find "synaptic to sensors" then click next. Finally click yes.
