  • I'm late to the world of soundbars, but I think I may have found the bargain of the decade with the current low price of the Roku Streambar.

I've never understood the push to make TVs thinner and thinner. Obviously CRTs were too thick, but I don't need my TV to be half an inch thin either. I've never been watching a movie on my 3 inch thick TV and thought "Damn, this picture looks great! If only the TV was thinner in the dimension I can't even see right now!"

We bought a “Google TV” and it has been a pain in the @$$. Looking forward to buying and installing this and getting back to the beautiful simplicity of Roku.

I bought one of these to go with a 22" 1080P monitor for in front of my treadmill. I was using a 24" 1080P Fire TV for about 3 weeks and I just couldn't take it anymore. The picture quality was fine but Fire OS is so cluttered and filled with ads. My Google TV in the living room has an "Apps only" mode and the Roku TV in the bedroom has a very clean UI. I have no idea why Amazon thinks people want to turn on a TV and have 90% of the screen be ads.

Problem solved, read the ending P.S. : While I like its sound quality, the automatic and arbitrary muting is driving me nuts. Anyone know how to turn it off? P.S. Finally I was able to connect with someone at Roku who suggested something I never would have thought of. (Who would, actually?) Switch out the existing HDMI cable for a new one. I used one of my spares. and now there's now a single muting when I boot up the Streambar, and no more after that. At last something that works. I was ready to throw the Streambar through the window. P.S. I finally connected with someone at Roku, who suggested something I hadn't even thought of. Switch out the current HDMI cable for a new one. It worked, eliminating most of the auto-muting. The Streambar now only auto-mutes upon boot up.

I bought it a few weeks ago, but when I connect my phone to it and play music 🎶 it is just quiet. But when connected to my LG TV via HDMI the sound is there.

Excellent review and im considering purchasing. Your review touched upon my biggest concern and that's how the soundbar works with other devices i.e sky, freeview player etc.
I think you mentioned terrestrial, when you turn the TV on, does the sounbar just work automatically WITHOUT loading the Roku interface, which is what im looking for? And if for example i want to use the Roku apps, do you have to select the HDMI on the TV remote that the soundbar is connected to? Reason i ask is because this represents fantastic value as a compact soundbar on its own and i prefer to use Sky stream and google TV for apps.

Thanks for your compliment and questions. Yes, it just kicks in automatically and no need to go to the interface and if you want to choose the Roku interface just select your input of HDMI as you normally would. The only thing I would add is sometimes there is a slight delay between turning on the TV and the Roku sound kicking in. This might have something to do with software updates so I do mine regularly and that goes for your TV of course. Hope that helps you. Regards
