I rode this 4 more times on Monday and just have one revision. The airtime on the white track coming down into the 2nd launch is much stronger than I remembered it on Saturday, especially in the back car. The white track is definitely the stronger side.
I just rode this 3 times today. I went through the exact same thing you did! At first I was like this is kinda ehhhhh. The second ride made me like it a lot better. And then on the third ride I really felt like there was a lot going for this coaster and it's really fun. I could've probably ridden it a couple more times but seeing as I usually visit the park once per month, I really wanted to ride everything else too. The park was practically dead and I got two front row rides IN A ROW on X2. Insanity! :D
I gotta say, the restraints probably suck for tall people. But for people like me (I'm 5'10) even pushed down almost all the way I was still falling into the vest straps through large portions of both halves of the course. There's a surprising amount of freedom for movement on that ride and I was coming out of my seat on the airtime hills. Especially on that drop into the second launch on the white track that you mentioned.
Sounds like you race two different groups of people on this - loading is staggered, meaning you load white track and race against people who were already on the ride on the yellow track, then you come back around on the yellow side, and race against new riders who are boarding on the white track. Is this correct?
Fantastic review. Detailed, enthusiastic, but measured and not just effusive. I love your reviews, even in cases when I don’t happen to agree. I’m heading “back home” to L.A. tomorrow, but I doubt I’ll be able to get to MM. But I am planning to hit Belmont Park and SWSD.

I only got one ride on it, but I was pleasantly suprised. The launch sort of kicks in more about 1/3 of the way in, and the high five gave some unsuspecting airtime like you said. And I also got another second suprise when I was on the second half of the ride, and just before we launched, I saw you. I screamed "YO AIRTIME THRILLS" on the corkscrews lmao. Great Review!
Whether people like the ride or not is up to them, but this is the exact kind of ride Magic Mountain needed; a moderately thrilling ride instead of something crazy like Twisted Colossus or X2

They better get the operations real quick, cause a whole minute and a half of waiting in the middle of the ride seems real annoying to deal with *every* time
The thing is its not "everytime". I rode it twice and one time I waited 30 seconds another about a minute. In fact the lines were moving quite fast on Saturday.
I went down to SFMM on Christmas Eve evening after my plans fell through for that evening. The park was so dead, I got 6 rides in a row on WCR within an hour and a half (it broke down at one point for about 15 minutes). I, too, went into this ride with low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. It’s a good, fun ride, but not too intense. The only thing I disliked about the comfort collars is how they get in the way when getting in and out of the train. I already have a hard time getting in and out of Premier trains, and having the comfort collar in the way makes it a little more difficult. I thought the shin guards were about the same as Full Throttle. They varied by row, with the 3rd and 6th rows being the most obtrusive. The other rows weren’t too bad.
gosh i love the fact that this ride is getting good reviews. Ppl like to 💩 on lots of things at magic mountain, and i feel like this is a great addition to the park. Im also really hoping that that airtime moment on the white side is a bit stronger after the tech rehersals are done in January!
there's basically no airtime on this ride. don't go in thinking there is any, since well, there isn't any. then you won't be disappointed. but, it's really fun.
You get real good ejector airtime from the high five element and right into the stall. But no real pops of airtime on this ride. Twisted Colossus wins that one. There's a very brief floater airtime moment too but nothing that was thrilling.
@@Hervinbalfour ehh, it's a fun element, but i have a real hard time calling that ejector airtime. or saying that there's airtime at all on this coaster. which is okay, most of sfmm rides don't have airtime and are still fun.
I'm already calling West Coast Racers the most underrated roller coaster out there. It completely blew me away. I thought this ride was going to be just kind of fun. And it has way more Force then I could have imagined. Those helix's are unreal. And you get incredible hangtime from the inversions. I can't believe how good this coaster is. If this coaster was exactly the same at Cedar Point, the Cedar f$ck boys would be calling this a top5 coaster in the world.
West coast is racers at this point is just pure overrated by the GP. It’s a weak and decent ish ride, and had some hangtime moments and stuff like that but the only good part is the racing and the ejector + hangtime. Nothing else because it still feels like a pretty mid ride.
When I came across the announcement video for West Coast Racers back in 2018, I kept up with the construction of this ride from start to finish. This is the second best Racing coaster, next to Twisted Colossus. I really like the second launch, getting that NOS boost and that you get to ride to coaster again for another lap, now this a true to Street Racing. Love the comfort collars, they remind me of Over The Shoulder Restraints, which in my opinion are better than Lap Bars. West Coast Racers will be sticking around for future generations, and the theming looks great.
I’d put it at 6th in the park! It can’t compete with apocalypse and full throttle. There are a few good moments but nothing outstanding. I was kind of underwhelmed by the ride even though it was very fun. Edit: You definitely are right about it being a GP pleaser and because of WCR apocalypse got a 70 minute wait today.
Just rode it twice today, it was a great ride. I didn’t expect it to be at all of what I thought it was. The line on Sunday wasn’t as bad as it was yesterday, but we still only got to ride it twice. Have fun to those who’ll be riding soon or in the near future.
It's a family coaster ultimately so I would not set expectations too high. Seems the only intense parts are the helices which I guess is something. I was kinda wishing they'd lock the train in the pit stop and tilt it side to side like they're actually changing your tires like on radiator spring racers, but that's too much to ask tbh. Looks like a cute ride, nothing substantial though. Now the new #20 coaster hopefully brings it home.
just stumbled across your page and i'm LOVING it. Been a so. cal. caster enthusiast since I was a kid and now I find myself in a coffee shop, mid 30's, salivating over all of these vids. LOL. Time to hit some parks again!

Good video, I always thought it would end up quite tame whilst it was being constructed and tested but I think now it looks like a great ride that I would love to go on one day
Awesome review 👍 You nailed this with incredible detail ... I was sad to hear "NO AIR TIME" on any of those hills ... i thought for sure we would get some 😔
I'll be riding that on Tuesday. I was going to go Saturday but after seeing the reserve lot full, I figured I'd rather go on a day where there's less of a crowd. I look forward to finally riding it!!!
got 2 rides on the 21st. head slammed into the headrest on one of the mid-course launches but the rest was fun. the race to the ride at opening was insane, i ran so much i almost fainted. also rode every non-kiddie coaster that day. great day.
Rode it back in July. We had been waiting in line for about 40 minutes and was begining to think it wouldn't be worth it. Boy was I wrong. It took my number one spot before the ride was even over
I got one ride on Sunday. I’d say the ride is more fun than thrilling/intense like TC. It heavily relies on the dueling aspect so it’s great that they made this the focus of the ride. I agree with most of what you mentioned in the video. Ride ops were very smooth on Sunday FYI. Yellow track launched very shortly after that video finishes. They are definitely getting into a groove.
Great review! Let me just take a min and say CONGRATS on the new ride for 2019 finally opening in your home park! This would be like waiting until next Dec for Pantheon to open for me. So, I'm happy that you were finally able to ride that thing. haha I am loving the focus on racing or dueling. I hope it remains throughout its life span. It was such a big hit to the thrill and fun factors when the dueling aspect was removed from Dueling Dragons/Dragon Challenge at Universal IOA. The rides absolutely stood on their own, but it was much better when the trains interacted for sure. Another great vid and I appreciate you getting it up so quickly after the rides. God stuff! Congrats again!

Great review! I appreciate all the details. I have had tempered expectations for this ride, but I'm definitely excited that it's finally open. I hope to get back out there soon, especially since Apocalypse & Viper were also closed on me when I visited. I'm lining up a return for early February.
I agree with this being a gp pleaser. It’s a great addition to the park and fills the gap with all the bigger coasters. This is a winner for the park and I think magic mountain is going in the right directions with this new attraction and land.
Gray outs = overly intense for me unfortunately. I don’t ride Goliath for this reason either and it’s unfortunate to have multiple rides at this park that cause that now. (sigh). But great video and review. The best I have seen.
I’m so exited to do this in August!!!! Thanks for the review your reviews are the best in the community! I know this is kinda weird but I’m a really big fan of these premiere ride multi launches! There really fun!
Great Review. Too bad I live all the way in New Jersey because I really want to ride this. Also, I think they are going to add more theming to the pit stop when it officially opens to the non members
I went on this ride the other day. We went on this first launch just fine and it was fun but by the time we were going on the second launch just as we were going to a loop the ride started to go backwards and then a stop. They tried to fix it but me and my friend were literally stuck on that ride for about an hour until someone finally came and told us that they were going to have to evacuate us from the ride. So it was an experience alright.
I remember riding Dueling Dragons at Islands Of Adventure in 2012, but didn’t that ride close because of the dangerous interaction between the two synchronized coasters? How is that not a problem here?
I can understand how some might be underwhelmed by this ride in comparison to their other rides, however mm is kind of shifting their focus to families versus just older teenagers and what not. More money in it. However I also think it’s funny how people are saying it’s horrible when you can clearly see by the track layout and speed that it is not going to be a high intensity coaster. I think when shifting target markets you’re going to get people from the old looking for the old model, and people who come into the new market model and or open minded will enjoy it.
Great review, maybe this is wishful thinking but maybe West Coast Racers was running slower than it will be in a few months, which may explain the weak airtime, but the ride still looks insanely fun. Can’t wait to ride it at some point in the near future.
the 21st is my bday and i can say i loved the ride and area! i got only 1 ride on it (was in line for a 2nd and it closed) i saw so many people i knew lol. the only part i dont like is the yellow side corkscrew after the 4th launch where i sat on the right side, it really banged my neck on the plastic top of the comfort collar. i hope i can get a couple rides more before i can say if i like it more than full throttle.
How many rides can they cramp into this place? Since it took so long to open this ride, do you think they have plans to add more premier rides? This debut seems like it doesn't give the park any more recognition. This reminds me of Wind Jammer at knott's. Is Magic Mountain going to close within the next decade?
I got two rides on it yesterday and I felt similar to you going in and came out feeling the same way. I love the high 5 element, especially on the white side. I felt the white side was the overall stronger side as I felt the first half of the yellow side was not that good, but after the second launch it approves greatly. Overall I felt it was in the top 7 coasters in the park. I feel Twisted Colossus and X2 are the best 2. Tatsu is a little behind those. Then comes the group of Full Throttle, Batman, Apocalypse, and this ride. I would put Riddler's in that mix if I could sit down on it. I think I prefer Full Throttle and then I have West Coaster Racers 5th just ahead of Apocalypse and Batman. They are all bunch within 8 spots of my overall rankings. I should make it out to the park one more time before it opens to the public. Great review!
I knew you'd be there and was waiting for this! Most helpful review so far that's for sure. How long did it take each time to get through the line? Due to breakdowns and having to leave and come back a week later, I waited about 5 hours before I got on Full Throttle and would prefer not to repeat that...
Well the only time I waited in the actual line was at the end of the night and it was 10 mins. The people who got in line after opening waited 3 hrs because of breakdowns. But that line got way shorter throughout the day
It's time for Vekoma to create something like West Coast Racers in Europe! It look really good offride... I don't see Premier Rides come here to place one, so it has to be Vekoma or maybe Gerstlauer...
In my opinion that "pit stop" completely ruins the ride in terms of pacing. It's not even visually interesting. Aside from that, it's a pretty solid mid level coaster.
That line got nuts right away. Glad I ran to the back of the park rather than just walking, only had to wait 10ish minutes rather than 3 hours like some others. Good coaster though. Kinda like TC without the drop or the huge airtime. The collars were a lot less of an issue than I thought they would be. Was kinda disappointed with the 2nd "launch" as it is more of a sharp short kick than something like you feel with FT going back through the tunnel. You summed it up pretty well. I do wish there was a clearer shot of between the two tracks for the first launch rather than having to film a bit from the side. Otherwise there are also plenty of great filming moments, though one you have to take from the queue of apocalypse.
I was saying the same thing about the first launch and not being able to get a straight on shot. And yeah the line got wayyyy shorter even an hour after opening. By 8pm it was a 10 min wait

It stopped dueling because someone intentionally threw something at another passenger and the park got sued
Next addition should be RMC raptor where Green Lantern was for 2020. For 2021 or 22, they should tear down Viper and make a B&M Giga there personally.
Great vid! Six Flags is hard to get footage on rides! I have been busted a few times! 🤣😂
I saw you at like 9 in the morning at the preview. I got there really early with my friend. I was to awkward to say hi though...
Great review, maybe this is wishful thinking but maybe West Coast Racers was running slower than it will be in a few months, which may explain the weak airtime, but the ride still looks insanely fun. Can’t wait to ride it at some point in the near future.
Glad you liked it, it looks like a fun ride. Going back to one of your previous videos, would this count as one credit or two if you ride both sides?
Ok that was a dumb question, I didn't realize it was like Twisted Colossus when you ride both sides on the same ride.
Awesome and thorough review!!
Nice vid! Would you consider the 1st launch similar to Manta at sea world San Diego?
Yay, I'm going next Monday, I'm excited to ride it! I think it looks great, thank you for your review,😊
Definitely saw myself in the shot of the line 😂
Hello GREAT VIDEO like ALWAYS! :)
the 21st is my bday and i can say i loved the ride and area! i got only 1 ride on it (was in line for a 2nd and it closed)
i saw so many people i knew lol.
the only part i dont like is the yellow side corkscrew after the 4th launch where i sat on the right side, it really banged my neck on the plastic top of the comfort collar.
i hope i can get a couple rides more before i can say if i like it more than full throttle.
How many rides can they cramp into this place? Since it took so long to open this ride, do you think they have plans to add more premier rides? This debut seems like it doesn't give the park any more recognition. This reminds me of Wind Jammer at knott's. Is Magic Mountain going to close within the next decade?
Also they haven't brought anything big since Tatsu and Goliath and X2. I would like a more extreme version of Superman to be built.
They can call it Thor.
They also don't have any wing coasters. They need to add Fury to their park.
FINALLY IVE BEEN WAITING SINCE THEY ANNOUNCED IT
I got two rides on it yesterday and I felt similar to you going in and came out feeling the same way.
Im willing to put WCR as high as 4th
@@AirtimeThrills I will say I enjoyed Copperhead Strike and Maxx Force more than WCR.
But that line got way shorter throughout the day
@@AirtimeThrills That's good to hear. Hopefully it'll stay that way.
It's time for Vekoma to create something like West Coast Racers in Europe! It look really good offride... I don't see Premier Rides come here to place one, so it has to be Vekoma or maybe Gerstlauer...
after the great job Mack did with the Helix launch coaster, they could definitely pull off a great racing coaster in europe
I don’t get why people compare this to full throttle. Just because they are both premier rides doesn’t mean they are the
same.
That's because it has identical ride elements found on both Twisted Colossus and Full Throttle.
@@Hervinbalfour exactly, this ride would be amazing at Over Texas or Great Adventure
WCR is the 2nd half of full throttle they forgot to add on...
Eric Adams I'd prefer MaXX Force as the second half for Full Throttle.....although IT'S by S&S!
Eric Adams kind of agree, haha. But I still really liked WCR
In my opinion that "pit stop" completely ruins the ride in terms of pacing. It's not even visually interesting. Aside from that, it's a pretty solid mid level coaster.
Can’t wait to ride it
That’s so awesome I cannot Wait to ride it when I go to SFMM in 2020!!!...😱😮😎😃😊😄😘🥰😆😍☺️😀😁❤️😲💯🤬😝😛😜🤪🎢🎢🎢
How friendly is this ride to heavier set people? The seats look kind of small from the angles you have shown..
What's your opinion on the new Icebreaker coaster that's coming SeaWorld Orlando.
Fantastic review!
I’m so excited for a modern möbius loop
Dalton Z-Back Up Twisted Colossus opened 4 1/5 years ago.
Dosware Pictures I think you know what I mean
Dalton Z-Back Up what?
Hey look it’s our Christmas gift
Did anyone notice how we started on a white track and finished on a yellow one???
