She just cuts through the water like butter..... Incredible! I fell in love with HR while sailing in Finland a number of years ago. I am in the very early stages of planning a year cruising with my family and will more than likely choose this boat. Thank you for posting this.
its mesmerizing how true the autopilot tracks. and yes, drop the music, this type of video is to be fully enjoyed by those in the know, not to entertain bored souls. Beautiful video.
Fabulous Boats We have had a 312 & a 352 Built @ Ellos., from where we collected them and sailed back to Scotland. Also we did many crossings Scotland - Scandinvia and in reverse over 4 years. Super Safe Sea Boats. The next Built was a Contest 40s. We sailed her 3.5 years from Builder's yard (Medenblik) to U.S.A. & Canada
Lovely and very capable boat! Next time try the main track to leeward a little, tighten the outhaul to flatten base of mainsail a bit then adjust the sheet to set the necessary twist, that'll put a bit of power into the rig and stop her hobby horsing and loosing speed over the waves sitting completely upright. It will also stabilise the boat giving just a little weather helm make steerage easier wether by hand or autopilot. I stand corrected if you are intact motor sailing in which case you are pretty much on the money.
mike careyMike, i'm glad you managed to restrain yourself from being rude. If you read my comment I ended by saying IF you are motor sailing you are "on the money" (doing a great job). I'm sorry if you read my comment as a negative, I still enjoyed the video.
Hi I am not an experience sailor in weather. I did notice the outhaul is slacked causing a very hollowed out main. Looks like they have it to the second reef point. Why would the slack in the outhaul be helpful in high winds? (even if motorsailing)
I have a smaller Hallberg Rassey and frankly wouldn't class this as heavy weather, rough yes, but try crossing the North Sea from Sweden in winter, we did, six days in a force 9, that would have made a good video, unfortunately we were too busy hanging on for dear life!
👍 very true sailing! Way to many sailing channels only show swimming in lite blue water, and spending time under the 🌞 on pristine white sand beaches void of others However, it does get old rather quickly. Their time spent without a worry suddenly pops and the memory of time & 💰, lots of money spent on various ideams (equipment, such as Sails, Engine, Electronics, Generator, Watermaker, Ropes & Lines, Chane, ect. Erodes from what they perceive as the world as they saw it called 'SAILING'. Thank you!
That actually looks fun. Great video, the HR seems like such a capable boat for all captains. Learned some things from the comment section, lots of ways to handle the weather. Do what works I guess and makes you feel confident and comfortable. Always learning when sailing for sure.
It's hard to know which sail is best in a blow -- main or headsail. Mainsail is probably safest, most stable; but don't plan on making much headway into the wind. Flying headsail only will keep your headway up, but there's no way to control weather helm; you just gotta live with conditions working against the steering at times.
Did you need to go that heading? Why didn't you use only the main sail? Wave just on your face, not so good and, maybe, a little dangerous. You sailed too slowly, isn't it. I'm sorry for my English, especially for technic terms, which I don't know so good. Fantastic boat!!!
A small amount of foresail would help drive the boat forward and hold the nose down! tighten the main a touch with the outhaul and the boom vang to stop the leech flapping?
I don't know your navigation situation but if there was enough sea room I'd have opened my course by 5 or 10º and cracked the sails to let the boat sail. You were going too slow, The boat was pinching too high and all you were doing was slamming into head seas whilst going nowhere very slowly. As I said. Maybe there wasn't enough sea room to do that. In which case it would have been worth making some.
It called forereaching under reefed main, and is one of many storm tactics. You don't lose ground this way, heaving to is the next step if it get to uncomfortable but you lose a lot of ground. Running down wind bare poles is next, then with a sea anchor or rope or whatever is next. We should presume that these folks would have cracked the sheets and pointed off if it was safe and comfortable to do so. I with others used this crossing the Bay of Biscay on a HR48 in a particularly nasty storm front that we couldn't avoid, and it kept us going at least a bit forward. Our skipper has MANY years and miles under the keel and knew what he was doing.
Another armchair admiral.....blah blah bla Thing is he's out there and you're most probably at the dock polishing your boat and telling tall sea tales 😂
@@robertgarbe6348 If they had the sea room, 5º or 10 º or even 15º off wouldn’t lose too much ground, and with the boat actually sailing, it would have had a steadier motion and there’d be less strain on the boat and crew. As they said, carrying on like this led them to turn back.
@@Crazy_Worlds nope, read up on forereaching... bearing off and speeding up would not be more comfortable... heaving to would have worked also but does lose ground, like I said, which is also a possible hazard. We, of course, weren’t there so all speculation.
Great autopilot. But the boat is constantly slamed against the waves (and they are still rounded, not hammers with foam crest), what is the reason for almost stalling upwind?
Agree completely and I wouldn't rely on an engine for storm tactics. Storm staysail and less main is the way to go. Much easier motion for the crew, 'cause the off watch would need to be laying on the floor of the main saloon to keep from being thrown from their berths. Good luck sleeping.
Ghostman113 my bad, I thought you were referring to this boat being little, sorry about that, I own a 27 O'Day, and compared to this my boat is little lol
I see a lot of talk about Hallberg Rassy sailboats that are great blue water, I just don't understand how a sailboat in this category doesn't have adequate protection for bad weather, like the Amel for example.
Goddamn it! I'm so sick of people with big sailboats saying they are in rough conditions! I've been in conditions like this in my Island Packet 27. Perspective is a hell of a thing. haha!
Great Video, thanks for sharing. But the deck o f the boat seems like a swimming pool on the sides :) :) since water coming in to the deck is not expelled out in the rear of the boat.
At what point should you worry? I heard that wave height > boat length is bad, but surely even before that would be a problem, if these moderately choppy seas rock the boat that much? If it tips, you're screwed right? :')
Una lastima ver sufrir el barco de esa forma. Este magnifico barco no merece un propietario tan poco considerado. A shame to see suffer the boat that way. This magnificent boat owner deserves not so little considered.
I hate the term motor sailing. It's one or the other.Assuming this boat sails like mine (which of course is a stupid assumption), a full main and a pinch of jib might have been better.
At 1:11 the question arises.... why purchase a sailboat without a covered Helm? Here we see no one at the helm or wheel while everyone takes cover under the Bimini.
simply nice ride .. especially when anchor goes to incoming wave and boat dig up a lot of water which then rush over and alongside the railings .. I like those moments in here and in real. BTW: nice central cockpit. ~1:53 ruclips.net/video/_GqosjN3Yho/видео.htmlm45s ~2:28 ruclips.net/video/_GqosjN3Yho/видео.htmlm28s
I agree with others, better sail trimming and a bit more off the wind would make more headway and a smoother ride, but maybe not such an exciting video.
Everyone thinks they're an expert. It looks like you were motorsailing under a main, possibly going too fast and launching off waves. If you slow down and stay in the water, it can be somewhat less rough going.
It looks to be around an F6, a ‘yachtsman’s gale’, and don’t forget that beating in to it adds something like another 6 knots to the wind speed, so you’ve probably got 25 to 30 KN apparent. That’s quite a breeze.
I could watch this all day. However, I had to kill the sound a minute in… would love to hear the wind and waves….gorgeous boat!
I've watched this video more times than I care to admit. Perfect camera angle. Makes me wanna go sailing again.
She just cuts through the water like butter..... Incredible! I fell in love with HR while sailing in Finland a number of years ago. I am in the very early stages of planning a year cruising with my family and will more than likely choose this boat. Thank you for posting this.
ever 1 i ask about HR the same answer i get .. i love it . its the one . ( i hope u have a good cruising ) dont forget to share your journey
a HR 34 for sale! incredible confortable boat and very good sailing performance, better than average HR! contact me
I love these times, best time for a nice cup of coffee and enjoy the ride, beats dead ass flat water and no wind
👏 its not all white sand beaches, bikinis & Sundowners... like most u-tube sailing channel show!
its mesmerizing how true the autopilot tracks. and yes, drop the music, this type of video is to be fully enjoyed by those in the know, not to entertain bored souls. Beautiful video.
good video - background music detracts from the experience of the sea - noise of the ocean...
agree, mute the music !
Just sailing, thank you. I wish I was there.
Even with those epic conditions...The music was a deal breaker.
I could watch this on repeat, over and over again.
How do i mute the music

@William, you read my mind. First thing I noticed. I'd bear away about 20 to 30deg

the music destroy the beauty of this video.
+El Flaco I agree
+El Flaco Yes. Musak is just our of context… unless you take your boat for an elevator
+vincent7520 the wind on a mic would be worse. turn off the sound add your own
true..
Nothing beautiful about the sound of a Hood stowaway mast whistling like a banshee in 40 knots of wind. They're doing us a favour.
por que tienen cazado el amantillo de la vela mayor?
Et vous n'essayez pas de louvoyer à la barre pour prendre les vagues ?
top vid, wish I was there
Close hauled on starboard tack, taking a pounding from the big seas which you are beating into, there’s only so much of that the crew can take.
That looks awesome but I really wish you'd have let us hear the sounds instead of that music.
I love this video.
Great autopilot. But the boat is constantly slamed against the waves (and they are still rounded, not hammers with foam crest), what is the reason for almost stalling upwind?

I watched with the sound off so it's a great video of bouncing upwind. Thx
Nice video! Looks amazing. I had a little sailboat once, and i really miss it.
+Ghostman113 little? this is a 48 lol
+Brad Hayman i said that I had a little boat once. I think it was 21 or 23 feet.
Ghostman113 my bad, I thought you were referring to this boat being little, sorry about that, I own a 27 O'Day, and compared to this my boat is little lol

they must have had the engine running heading straight into those waves!I have been sailing for 45 years.
Goddamn it! I'm so sick of people with big sailboats saying they are in rough conditions! I've been in conditions like this in my Island Packet 27. Perspective is a hell of a thing. haha!
That is such a great video angle for a sail boat. why aren't there more like this? GO GO PRO
Great Video, thanks for sharing. But the deck o f the boat seems like a swimming pool on the sides :) :) since water coming in to the deck is not expelled out in the rear of the boat.

That’s more like it Home sweet home. ❤
Super nagranie i muzyczka ok :-)
I LOVE the music!
Doesn't go with the vid but if you hadn't used it I wouldn't have ever heard it so all good!
Musics a no ! no ! The sound of nature’s music to MY ears !
Vous vouliez tester la résistance de la coque, des structures et du grément ?
more more more ... ops too much caffe ,, nice btw why u go out in that weather .?
Seven minutes of the exactly same thing and over 500,000 views? I don't get it.
ahhh dream life
Beautifull video No music please!
Quite a strong tide runs along that coast so maybe they're just motoring to get from A to B to overcome it
Great boat... but mind my asking why are Lifejackets not being warn? How many hours were you motorsailing in those conditions.
+Jane Krypner They are being warn! Look closely (; About 2 to 3 hours, we went back to the harbor.
Surely coming off the wind a tad rather than beating hard to wind would have been more comfortable?
The old Monsun 31 would have handled this as well.
I love these conditions 😍😍 but it's only funny if you use all your sails and the wind comes from backwards.
looks like they motoring...
Main not set properly for this kind of weather and no jib?
What autohelm are you using? It seems to be doing a great job considering the elements!
+slandshark A Raymarine lineair 7000
it's a easy work when the boat is sailing against the wind with engine on.
The problem comes when you are "sailing" downwind.
Is the engine on during this video?
Can anyone estimate the wind speed?
Reported by video poster earlier " The engine is on ". i believe it is to help against hobby horse off waves.
I've sailed the 48 from Tortola to Miami. Do you not have a storm staysail?
Nice video! Just love the song!! What is it? Can't find it..
She didn't even break a sweat... Bet you can't say that for cheaper mass-production boats.
better hear the sea instead of music....
The music???!!! Heavy weather, indeed.
Una lastima ver sufrir el barco de esa forma.
Este magnifico barco no merece un propietario tan poco considerado.
A shame to see suffer the boat that way.
This magnificent boat owner deserves not so little considered.

The boat does not suffer at all, she can take the beating, but may be the crew suffer, calling this heavy weather.
I hate the term motor sailing. It's one or the other.Assuming this boat sails like mine (which of course is a stupid assumption), a full main and a pinch of jib might have been better.
Where is the "heavy weather" the title was talking about? This is a little rough, but thats about it.
It is very heavy you dumbass keyboard sailor!
Heavy weather? Bullshit, a little spray from the bow is not heavy weather.

You have never sailed and know nothing about it so stop embarassing yourself.
Really? Who is embarassing himself, you or me?ruclips.net/video/sJoDTu7CoRQ/видео.html
Thats what we call a little snotty around here.
Till the battery on that autohelm goes dead. Then you have to run the generator. So you're basically steering on diesel.
Klasse Video ! Stimmt , daß die Musik nicht so dazu passt
At 1:11 the question arises.... why purchase a sailboat without a covered Helm? Here we see no one at the helm or wheel while everyone takes cover under the Bimini.
Riders on the storm fits like a glove 7m
the music fits perfect! Dont like? Hit 3:23
Ja, dat zijn de beste zeilboten. Ik ga misschien komend seizoen ook nog eens een paar tochten filmen, maar met Jeanneau :-(

Why would I want clubbing music at sea.
Very capable sailing vessel but they are motoring against the weather and waves...
Nice Video
Are you trying to do something by remote in this vid? had to ask.
Fantastisch :)
always with the elevator music !! if i wanted that id search for "shit disco music" ...
Good times! But that ain't heavy weather sailin' probably like force 7, 8 at most.
I agree with others, better sail trimming and a bit more off the wind would make more headway and a smoother ride, but maybe not such an exciting video.
Would rather hear the wind and the waves.
you cannot sail against without a headsail. the boat has no progress just bobs up and down in the seas
a ver, que muy experto no soy, pero "heavy weather" no parece... de hecho lo más difícil de soportar es la música del principio
sweet man
Free roller coasters rides.
I've never been close and personal with any HR's. Is there no Deck Drainage?
There is. Holes going down vertically right by the foot rails. Cannot recall the exact position and they are not huge but they do the job.
heavy weather?
I don't see any spray exception done for the your boat that is sailing with the engina against the wind (probably 12 Kn )
Should have bought an Amel (with covered helm station).
where is the heavy weather?
Warum muss so ein tolles Video mit so nerviger Musik unterlegt werden? Daumen hoch? Nein!!!
Sarebbero velisti ???
soon winter and I will do the same just in 22 foot. north sea here I'm come :)
Why the music. Let it be natural. Great video.
no jib , the boat is engine powered ,
Nice boat, but it's hardly heavy weather, just beating to windward
Everyone thinks they're an expert. It looks like you were motorsailing under a main, possibly going too fast and launching off waves. If you slow down and stay in the water, it can be somewhat less rough going.
That's what I was thinking. Reef the main.
I just screamed at my 13 year old daughter to turn down that damn music!! Do you wanna apologize to her or should I?
impressive Video, but the "music" is pain in my brain!
Motorsailing in a moderate chop
His name is Ralph man
It would've help this video if there was some dialogue and my see in side otherwise didn't make sense, don't get in the movie business.
Not heavy weather. Ease the topping lift, and main.
That’s a breeze, hardly “heavy weather “!!!
It looks to be around an F6, a ‘yachtsman’s gale’, and don’t forget that beating in to it adds something like another 6 knots to the wind speed, so you’ve probably got 25 to 30 KN apparent. That’s quite a breeze.
Would have been much better without the music
That's hardly heavy weather!
We get worse coming out of cardiff in the bristol channel!
