Now that's a real sailing video... not just dock-talk, pets, and bikinis like so many of the "sailing vloggers".. Well done guys!
thanx
No stupid music also...
Gatekeeping sailing... Good lord.
Great sailing !!!!!
I like bikinis
I have to admit Raymond I'm really impressed, I absolutely envy people like you guy's...thanks for the vid I enjoyed it, really well done.
thanx
Thank God for no music.
Imagine it with Benny Hill music.
@@estrelladelmar6466 ;)
The musicians are holding to the keel
No music?
Sweet sound of the wind and the sunder of waves ? That's the music !
THIS is what I wanna see when I search, “Sailing videos”!
Bravo!
Your viking ancestors would be proud of your skill and courage. Great video. As far as I'm concerned, that's sailing!
thanx :)
Jett Jo johnson your funny
I'm just jealous. No yacht anymore, circumstances. Nice to see this. You guys know your limits by experience. Last video I saw was abandoning yacht (Dove 2) after the main sheet broke. I wasn't there, but I think that skipper got a kind of panic attack. Good thing is, they got rescued (man, wife and two young children). But really, letting go such a great yacht, I am sure you would have sailed it home and he didn't. I must respect his choice, again I wasn't there, who am I? Sailing a family, losing your rudder, getting wife and children rescued, would you try sailing solo using an emergency rudder? Depends on the ship and the trip ahead, I guess.
where is the girl in the bikini, dont all boats have one
Sorry pal, does not apply to North Sea in the middle of the winter :P
No sorry it’s the mans boat lol
@@tonymontana7566 It's a gay boat?
@@AgentRafa it's the love boat
That's a bimini, you got the wrong word. And what's wrong with naturism? All that emphasis on swimming garments is so Victorian Century. Get rid of that nonsense. Those years are the past.
Very impressive!
Appreciate the fact that you let the sounds of nature come through!
Next time please give an all round view, all sides, 360°, thanks.
thanx, next time 360
That's the best sailing I've seen of all yachting (so far)...They never show their yachts going through heavy seas. That's what I want to see
thanx
I had to turn back when I was sailing my Cutlass 32 from Kirkwall Orkney to Walls on Shetland and onward to the Faroe Islands. My bottle had gone due to the increase in wind knots. I never ever made it to the Faroe Islands. A cracking video of how bad it can get.
I have learned to ride a motorcycle and I wish to experience the seas.
I will now learn to sail. I will soon purchase a boat and I will sail the world with my dog. Mr bean.
I stopped with a motorcycle because it was too dangerous and more focused on sailing, great to start sailing instead
raymond myhre hi this is great . Isit possible for a boat to ever turn upside down when in rough conditions ? I would so love to travel the world and buy a boat
@@linksmedia1853 its posible that the boat can capzise, anyway monohul vil normalt turn right way after that but normaly its very safe
@@ramyhre I am in the process of selling my bike to buy a boat as well!
Go for IT! !
Those waves are huge! In person they look 3 times bigger than on camera. Awesome video!
Thru
Fantastic video. I am very impressed how the First 42 handled these conditions under a small headsail alone. And very pleased to see that the cockpit drains were working!
Fantastic!! :-)
Have sailed over there a few times myself. From Leirvik. One was close to that weather. Had to repair a sail on Shetland. He would not have any money for the job. He had seen me come in ;-) Wonderful people. Nice movie. Thanks!!
Anders Jakobsen thanx
big time sailing less talk and more action that is what people want to see, great video
thanx
Was looking out for a full keel heavy boat for such conditions but doesn't seem this is required!
Hi Haa ! Nice Swell indeed ! :) Refreshing after watching all those cute couples fighting for their lives in 20knot gale on 8ft rogue waves... LOL !
the sole fact that you spent time and energy setting up the cameras in such conditions is reason to give you credit. plus: awesome result, great sailing
thanx
Cäm??
there is someone with him bro
You do it big. Others go to hawaii you go to the artic lol. No kicking back in the sun there. That's real deal sailing.
For dinner they had a bowl of nails.
Well said! Godspeed from Texas.
Without any milk
Washed down with wd40
With rivets on the side.
Cold.
Dette var bra saker! Fortsett med slike videoer. Tøffe forhold til tøffe karer👍⛵
takk for det, flere filmer kommer
This is amazing! I want there to be more sailing videos like this!
It’s a wonder you didn’t capsize with those gigantic balls you have 👍
newer capsize in this boat :)
Chris Hanford - hahaha :D
his balls prevent the boat capsizing
The heavy keel keeps the ship in balance, as well as good steering.
He has twice as many balls as I have.
Alright boys, here’s the plan: we’re going to sail like Vikings to an island where we can act like Vikings and then sail like Vikings some more! Those were some gnarly conditions and everyone acted like it was a day sail on the bay. You guys are hard core.
thanx
Soaking wet, freezing cold, caked in salt, and seasick. What could be more fun?
Finally! A real sailing video. Thank you!
this is a mans boat
no bikinis here
He’s wearing layers...can’t know for sure
this is great sailing! really liked this video...real sailing. thanks guys! post more please
Great sailing skills !!!! On the first time i was quite angry with you cause i thought that you was solo !!!! But after i saw the rest of the crew and i said to myself : OK these real seamans!!!!!
thanx
Great footage for me to watch. One of my preparations for a solo circumnavigation will be the North Sea in winter - thanks for sharing.
thanx
❤️ We Loved ❤️ the music of the Wind ! ! 🇨🇦🙏🏽
The Benetau 42s are nice--sailed one down in the Leeward Islands last year. You were hauling ass with just that small rag up front. but those beam seas can be nasty. Good on you for making that run in the winter! (good thing you had those big balls for ballast)
thanx
Actually doesn't look bad at all. 15-20 Ft breaking waves in the middle of night on the way to Bermuda in November under bare poles on the 68 Ft 1930's schooner Yankee, that is real "Fun".
Great to see real sailing....well done!
thanx
While it looks really bad, the boat handled those conditions no problem. Great helmsman.
Slashley gibbins don’t think so... saw few accidents videos in much less risky waters. in my book this was russian roulette but he is tough as s nail to deal with it coz I would shit bricks
Thanx
It's at times like these it's good to know your boat.
You were really moving fast even with extreme reefing of the sails.
Oh my!
At last,a real sailing video.
Fantastic.
thanx
I thought you got a viking funeral at the end 😂
haha :)
I have dreamed of doing this some awesome day!! and I will soon be as cool as you.... probably not, but I sure hope so
PPL dont have enough faith in boats they can take a pounding-its high winds that are crazy
90 mph winds?! The beneteau first 42 handled it like it was nothing. Just a little rolly. Have y'all done a full circumnavigation with her or how many times has she crossed oceans?
OK, where's the bikinis, guys? 🤣
I kid, Great shots of the weather. Takes a lotta guts to do what the Vikings did out there. I'm a hopeless landlubber, so you'd never get me on one of those things, but it's fascinating to watch. Much respect
No wonder it's said these people discovered America! Were the sailors shown here out for pleasure?!
Exhilarating and frightening in equal measure for this land-lubber.
No bullshit , just sailing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! Feeling alive now. Wish I was there with you guys...
Nice...next time talk about tactics, your plan, and how you look forward into time and what you are going to do when conditions deteriorate.
We admire you and your companion sailing the north sea. It is only N. S. You are so brave and strong. Thanks
Strange, whenever you see a small sailboat sailing in these kind of weather it's most likely a crazy Norwegian behind the rudder! Ser gøy ut.... her fra sofaen 😁
ja veldig gøy :)
That’s extreme sailing. Great video 👍
thanx
Great footage - thank you for no music.
thanx
ure only brutal sailor if u manage to water ski behind your boat ure travelling with single handed
This is the type of content I am going to create! this is awesome! Loved it! No BS Just sailing!
Thanx
Geweldig … 👍👍👍
Hell yeah!!! That's what I'm talking about!!!
I got sick just by watching this video...😅
6.23. like a Movie...Key in "Throw water at Skipper".... lol.
:)
i'd sail there in my Laser Radial😂
Sarcasm btw
good to know when they handed out the crazy you got your share wow cool stuff lol
Thomas Mcluckie /
That was awesome 😎. Massive swells and waves. Good video too. Thanks and best from HKG 🇭🇰
the helm is color coded for port & starboard? haven't seen that before.
its for my kids :)
2:00 I like the red and green wrapping on the helm pedestal, just in case the helmsman forgets which side of the boat is which... :-)
Anyone that goes to sea for pleasure would go to the devil for a pass time.
I was white knuckling it just watching on my PC🤣
Imponerende. Jeg er ny med seilbåt i år og fikk litt uvær nylig ved Malmøya, men dette var ekte seiling.
main sail with a third reef to keep her steady? saves a lot of steering, just saying.
What's the steering for? Keep the wind in the sail, balance the the boat or waves at the right angle? Been trying to find answers to rough sailing. Going to have to buy a book...
how to say it in simple words... no bullshit just sailing :-) thumb up!
thanx
I was at sea for 3 weeks in 1987. A tropical depression and a nor’easter came together. For about 3 days we had waves which make the waves in this video seem very small. This looks rough but by no means extreme. My experience is limited but the waves we were in were the size of skyscrapers. I wonder how often conditions are that rough? I have only sailed a few times but my impression is this video shows a rough but normal sea storm. It is not extreme based on my limited experience. We had many days of these conditions and a couple of days that were far worse. Is my impression correct?
Werry difukult to se the zize in wawes in video, i do a winter sailing cross biskaya in strong gale, in wideo water looks flatt
Bro
I was in a crazy career for 25 years and I’ve done some wild @$$ stuff I can’t even write about, been in some crazy situations....
Baby Shit -compared to this my man.
Wow.
Thanx
Stupid question. All of my sailing has been coastal British Columbia and Haiti. There is flotsam aplenty and at times heavy timbers that may punch the hull. Also Orcas and seals however they are curious and nonaggressive. Sometimes scary! At sea have you had the occasion to be imperilled by floating obstacles or large sea life? Hats off to your skills, bravery and acquired knowledge. The early Norsmen and Pacific Islanders would accept you as an equal.
thanks. you have a good point, we are not so bothered by things in the water but containers are in the water and it is always in mind
Damn, didn't realized Benetau could take such conditions
Guys, Now that is a Kick Ass Video, real Sailing in Real weather, First I have found on RUclips. Thank you and God Bless!!
thanx
Awesome!
Must be difficult to have your croissants and coffee on the cockpit table, in those conditions, in the morning! 😐
Cheers, Rich.
haha yes it was, but we managed to drink coffee :)
crazy!! :-O , but very nice! Congrats Raymond. Well done!!
Andreas Akesson Thanx :)
Andreas Akesson heavy weather yeah
Andreas Akesson good job mate
You guys put out a good video I like the videos you guys put out
...and the howling breeze is the icing on the cake...grt stuff.
Beautiful seamanship...Great helm...great video
thanx
Great video! Technical question: how do you manage to furl your jib at such wind??
Electric winch makes the job easy
Falling off the wind to broad reach conditions lowers the apparent wind force enough to furl it easily.
Once furled go back to your initial heading.
Abe Swells:
From 70 to 60 knot? No main sail to hide jib behind? And turn 180 on such high sea to furl? Run without drogue? I will never do it.
Raymond:
Winch looks dangerous. At such wind having braking furling system... You are lucky.
@@malchugan2469 if you still have a Genoa or jib to furl when it's blowing 60, then you're not a sail boat.
At 40 knt you should already be on a staysail, and at 60 you should be on a reefed staysail or stormbjib.
YOUR A FUCKING GOD👍🤯🙏😀🧚🌴
Uaaauuuuuuu and I’ve never been in a boat or sailboat
It isn't sailing till the toe rails are tea bagging, the cockpit is flooded and the hull is humming while surfing down the growlers.
Personally, I love crashing to windward.
That'll put hair on your chest! Great video and sailing. Glad the boat held up
thanx
Why are you hand-steering? Was your auto pilot not capable? Seems exhausting to me.
the autopilot broke down the day before the voyage started
Really natural nautical Sailing Very nice
Balls of steel
Absolutely Splendid! None of that easy peasey Miami to Biscayne Bay sailing with a 2 Broads on the bow suntanning. This is a mans sailing.
Great Video, plus no crap music to spoil it. Just signed up.. Fair winds and calm seas Reg
Thanx :)
Lerwick Viking festival, only badasses get to attend. Nicely done fellas.
OK, so what were hundreds of people doing holding torches while standing in gale force winds? (9:25)
its a viking festival in Shettland www.uphellyaa.org/
What was the part at the end with all the torches? That looked awesome! Was it some kind of festival or something?
it was viking festval it is called www.uphellyaa.org/
good job, Vikings, with a very good French boat ;-)
thanx Jacques this old boat its better end the new one:)
I agree, every ancient boats are better, mine is 30 yeas old, nowadays s/v are built for clients who go from pontoons to pontoons in summer and never sail at night, not for sailors.
have nowadays s/v a homepage?
What boat is it?
benetau first 42.
What legends you guys are ! That is rough as hell =)
thanx :)
Thank you. Very well done. Now that is how I would like to know sailing, such as this fellow sport.
thanx
You and your mates get to keep your honorary Viking cards until the next up helly aa festival lol
yes :)
WHER DOES ALL THEW WATER GO? DOWN INTO AREA WHERE SLEEPS OR COOKING? I CANT BELIEVE HE JUST LET WATER GET HIS SLEEPIN AREA SOAKIN WET?
there is a large room in front of the steering wheel in the floor of about 1000 liters where there are 2 large drainage holes that create negative pressure so the water is sucked straight out quickly, there was never a problem with the water on board
That´s real sailing, not what you see other new sailors on YT are filming!
Thanx
the best sailing video in rough seas that I have seen!
Thanx
" Hey Swede!"
" They're Norwegian, MacReady."
haha :)
Tell me about the boat! The cockpit drains wonderfully. No wind vane? Constant hand steering? Ouch. Excellent job though!!!
thanx, benatu first 42 1992 mod .No wind vane Constant hand steering autopilot damage before crossing
Great video.........… I've sailed in conditions similar to this. Until you've done it you have no idea how difficult it can be. Loss of concentration or one bad move at the wrong time and you're toast.
thanx
What's up with the fiery meeting? Was that the local KKK.
