I have come along with many the situation of Fight and Flight or free, but mostly not the freeze the main thing that we have met were to resist to the situation of fierce and keep to get rid of danger
What I'm trying to find an answer to is what to do when the fight/ flight/ freeze response happens in non-threatening situations, every single day (with no underlying trauma). I've always had this response with public speaking (like a lot of people), but for a few years now it ambushes me in other situations, like normal conversations, telling stories or jokes to friends, appointments, interviews, any confrontational situation, phone calls, and lately (thanks to Covid) video calls. I control it with beta blockers, but that's becoming less and less effective. I've never been able to calm it with breathing exercises. It's seriously affecting my ability to do my job, and I need to address it. I just don't know how.
nice2nettles I agree been going thru the same at stuff and it’s starting to affect me at college and makes getting a new job almost impossible for me, but I’m working on it.
Like a broken leg needs physical therapy… your mind also needs therapy and enough situational practice to become more and more aware of obstacles and response
I've been watching some videos, not an expert... I recommend you talk to some psychologist. If you feel that way you probably suffer from anxiety, your brain is always telling you you are in danger. From what I've seen is common people feeling that way in not threatening situations. The best thing you can do is realizing the problem, understanding your body and do some therapy. Breathing techniques can help also. I'm not an expert and English is not my mother tongue. Hope that I helped you in anyway and that you overcome your problem.
Is there a 4th option? Freeze? You can 1. fight against the waves, 2. swim away, 3. let the waves knock you out, or 4. float and let the waves carry you wherever the current goes.
Shae Reub ....I believe freeze and float are the exact same thing psychologically . Fight -is to take action towards resolving the impending situation. Flight-is to take action to escape the impending situation. Freeze- is to take no action or freeze ,float ,watch and let the impending situation unfold . There are only 3 actual psychological responses to impending danger, with a wide spectrum of responses within those 3 choices .
thank you Betsy , an "experiencer ", who has knowledge and compassion and who is helping others heal, well done

Shae Reub the fourth option is called appease - the idea of if I can’t beat them then join them
@@lip1551 i think it'd be fight flight freeze float (in the exact order i wrote my comment).
I've never experienced float but it sounds like a concept I'd like to try.
