My son is a pilot, so i bought this 17R so i could program our local airports. I programmed them in manually. When in CHIRP-NEXT, use the UV-17pro for programming. This will also allow GMRS channels for those of you also holding a GMRS license.
I have both these radios and they are pretty lacking but for the price and if you plan on installing ur own hacked firmware to open up anything that is locked then i would go with the Quenshan cus the hacks make it a beast
After watching a RUclips video of a spectrum review of the UV17R's output I attached my copy to a TinySA and measured the 1st harmonic on 2m is down ONLY 19DB from the fundamental. This is a major FAIL as it ought to be 40DB or more! My copy of the UV17R ought not be used for transmitting unless output filtering is added between the UV17R and the antenna.
Purchased this radio about 2 months ago and overall it is an impressive radio for the price. However one glitch it has is when receiving a transmission from local repeaters and simplex, the first syllable is cut out before the rest of the transmission is heard. I have the battery save mode (menu option 3) set to Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
Yeah well it's better than the 5rm that one was a real piece of shit compared to this one it does not drift at least like the 5 RM does upon receiving and I also use this for Murs as well so I don't use any ham crap at all I just use it for tactical purposes
I have 2 of the 17's and yes they are worse than all 8 of my uv5r's, the second harmonic is way above the limit. it is too bad too, the radio is pretty good, but only usable as reciever on 2 meter but 70cm it is fine

Flashlight is to blind fools before ya smack em in the head with the radio, rodney king style 😂
Excellent review. Be looking forward for more of your content

Lessons from Ukraine: know when to give up...
Probably has bad spurious emissions/harmonics like most China stuff.
