65 comments so far, and only 3 or 4 negatives that apparently didn’t understand the purpose of the video: that a highly trained dog is still first and foremost a dog, and is entitled to run and sniff around in a new environment with his master (while respecting leash laws and other owners). Excellent video, needed to be said. Thank you!

My dog loves sniffaris/sniffy walks ❤️ I feel bad making her heel on a short leash everywhere (she's 6 months old), so we try to do it away from home once or twice a week.
Anytime my malinois gets caught on something she retracts her steps and gets out it. I’m not saying your dog is not pure breed but I bought mine through a 100 year bloodline and doesn’t have any white on her coat or chest.

Last week I had to kick a small dog TWICE that charged us and the owner said "sorry he's normally nice!". Great but do you like it when random strangers rush up and try to buck up on you??? It's not nice!! I tear them up for not having a leash!

Because there are leash laws when out in public. I could get a ticket or potentially put him in a dangerous situation. He has freedom on my completely fenced 7 acres daily. I never recommend taking a dog off leash in public, no matter the training.
@@AndyKrueger Ok. There are leash laws also in my country. But dude really you call this public, you met whole 3 people in this walk. I guess it all depends, regarding the retractable leash. I’m no dog trainer but personally I’m not a fan of retractable leashes. My dog is not allowed to be reeled in and let out like that! My friend had her lab on one of those leashes in an unpopulated area and WHAM, out of nowhere around the corner bush , came a person jogging with her dog on a leash. The other dog started jumping all around she got wound up in the retractable, falling down and breaking her arm and injuring her hip. For the average lay person Id say NO on those leashes. That’s just my personal opinion. I just don’t want my dog to think that’s it’s ok ANY TIME to run around when he’s connected to a leash. If they’re that well trained just let them off the leash! You say “if you do it right.” That’s probably very true but the average person I see out walking their dogs with retractable leashes DONT use them right Just my opinion

I noticed you looking around like you were paranoid during the first part of the walk. I get it! I used to take the sled team into town for distraction training. Try holding back 6 Sibes cause brave Fifi thought she would try standing in front of the team saying far enough folks. All the while 220lbs is standing on full brake being dragged closer and closer to fifi with me screaming at the lady to gab her dog before it becomes lunch. She did, thankfully. That would of been messy right near the public school. Great chapter but glad all 15 years of it are over.
Wow I absolutely loved this! I think most people are like me and love seeing him pull you all over the place and wrap the leash around trees and things! It reminds us that dogs are dogs and its ok to sometimes let him be one! Plus we see you have so much control over him all the time that I think we forget that hes just a dog, and even a well trained dog like him will still pull you all over the place if you let him! It was fun to just see you casually out with him like this, in a non-training and non-working setting! Thank you for making me and my dogs feel normal! Btw I find myself doing the "behind the back" thing multiple times and have had to get really good at it, esp walking more than one dog at a time they get all twisted up if I dont stay on top of things!
If he wanted him to slow down and walk slow next to him, he would as he is well looked after and gets lots of training very often indeed. If he didn’t get trained much then it would be an issue but that is not the case here. That’s why he wants him to pull.
Without being disrespectful although it's great to see you both enjoying yourselves, l can't understand why the dog is pulling you all over the place if he is "highly trained " l Am also a dog trainer and my dogs or dogs I've trained would never pull no matter where we are. Not sure if the Law in that park is leads must be on? Maybe l missed something. I let my dogs off lead as soon as they are ready for it.But l only allow my dogs to move out away from me so far unless l send them out. They won't and don't want to be that far away from me . I don't train my dogs to compete just real world stuff moving in woodland, fields, parks , car parks (lots) but if on lead l train them never to tighten the lead up or pull me no matter where we are or what distraction they encounter while out. I have watched a few of your videos and credit where credit is due very very good from a working competition point of view. But surprised that doesn't extend to the outside world which is what 95% of dog ownership is. All the best!
I have to respectfully disagree with you. This pup was having a chance to do what dogs naturally do…..run, smell, go off in different directions etc. Dogs do not naturally stay within a certain distance of its handler. He said at the beginning of this video he was going to let Fred be a dog. As for going off lead…in many states it is illegal to not have your dog on a leash. Not only that…it is rather unkind as there are people in the park that may be traumatized by dogs but still have every right to be in that park. I am also of the belief that an animal is an animal first and foremost with all the instincts that come with it being such. You do not ever know what will trigger a dog to run off. Ever….no matter how well trained. Every time you let your dog off leash in public you are risking that dogs life. And I’m 100% sure that if what he wanted was for Fred to not run off and to not pull on the lead, Fred would’ve obliged. He is very well trained. I don’t believe competing is not what he is trained to do. He is a protection dog and competes in arenas of that skill set. It’s a whole different ball game than walking pretty. As I said I mean no disrespect and I think we all have our own idea of what a well trained dog should and shouldn’t be or do. But this dog is well trained and I’m not quite sure why you put those word in quotes.
We have a lot of rescue dogs since we been saving dogs for over 26 yrs plus our own dogs. recently got me a Malinois after 4 of our long time self owned dogs died from cancer within 2 years time .

Nice video. Thanks for mixing it up a bit. Will do that with our Aussie to break up training.
Nice!
@@AndyKrueger thanks. I know how much time recording and editing it takes to do RUclips’s. Look forward to your next. Here is my go at a new puppy training video. Three key things to start when getting a puppy. Enjoy. ruclips.net/video/AvJ31n3tHPU/видео.html
For a no training day pup is having a great time!
It was great. Thank you for sharing, I needed to see that off time. 🙂
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Lol he totally goes for a walk like a sled dog. Head on a swivel! I need one of those shirts! For when I go to town too. ;)
Freddy, Freddy Krueger... I get it now.
Oh yeah ⚔️
All your videos are good and educational.
This was nice and inspirational. Brief and dynamic, just like I used to do ( after a heart attack a little less dynamic these days 😆)
Haha 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Andy didn’t teach his dog to loose leash walk lol
Thank you! 🙏🏼
I LOVE FREDDY AND YOUR VIDEOS ❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful. Thank you.
Great video as always, sometimes you have to just let the dog be a dog!
Exactly! 🙏🏼
Maybe a stupid question but where did you get that slip collar from? I loved watching Freddy have good time.
If he wanted him to slow down and walk slow next to him, he would as he is well looked after and gets lots of training very often indeed. If he didn’t get trained much then it would be an issue but that is not the case here. That’s why he wants him to pull.
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hi.
Do you know somebody i can get a pupy malinois???
Sorry I don’t recommend breeders.
I love it. Keep doin you Andy.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Without being disrespectful although it's great to see you both enjoying yourselves, l can't understand why the dog is pulling you all over the place if he is "highly trained " l Am also a dog trainer and my dogs or dogs I've trained would never pull no matter where we are.
But this dog is well trained and I’m not quite sure why you put those word in quotes.
is his real name fred, freddy, or fredrico??
Haha It’s Freddy ! 🙌🏻
Freddy Kreuger!!!
made me feel better😂
Thanks for keeping it real.
👊🏼
We have a lot of rescue dogs since we been saving dogs for over 26 yrs plus our own dogs. recently got me a Malinois after 4 of our long time self owned dogs died from cancer within 2 years time .
Eden park is great. Hope I run into you in Cincy sometime.
Agreed! 🙏🏼
What your doing is great for somebody like yourself who is under 40 but if you're 73 with the infirmaties that accompany age --- I can't keep up.
Loved it!
Wish you would have talked a little more extensively about the positive and negative reinforcement of "kenneling-up".
Great video. Loved it. All work no play is no fun!! My Malinois is my best friend.
I think this is an excellent idea. Good way to keep your dog healthy and well balanced! Love it ❤
Loved you were in Cincinnati. I am currently in Northern Kentucky. I grew up in Cincinnati. My family lives there. I have an Anatolian Shepard, but I loved this video. I do have the extended lead.
Dog should feel like a dog!So usefull video!thank you very much!
Sweet segment! Love it.
Thanks!
I wouldn't roast you Andy! You the man!
Haha 🙌🏻
Brilliant video! And yes, I could watch an hour of this.
Such a brilliant video! Thanks Andy! Now what happens if another dog was off leash and came running towards your dog?
I’d slap the owner 😂😂
I don’t use retractable anymore since I had one break on me I use a martingale collar with strong as leash.
But my mastiff I had was 175lbs and would break any weak leash. When I first got him he literally dragged me into our huge pond we have.
Andy Krueger: K-9 mind. ‘preciate ya.
Awesome content! I want a shirt that says "he bites and I bite too!" 😂
What if someone approaches wanting to pet ?
