- This is my antenna project to building a 40 Meters Horizontal Loop Antenna on top of my roof. After building my Zero Five 27' HOA Inverted L for 80 Meters, a friend of mine W4DOM Dom asked me to why not build an 80 Meter Horizontal Loop Antenna. That's where the idea of building one on my root top came from. Enjoy the video!

Thank you for watching!
Hello Capt Darren, you are a hell of a Genius cuz you know excatly how to make your Neighbour getting pissy with all these Antennas on your Roof. You did a great job onthe Construction Work and I am not going to miss out watching Part 2/2 Happy Monday Capt. 73 de YFUG 💯👍🙋♂
Hello Uncle Guenter, well, it's gonna look like a clothes line when I'm done. And I can put up an American Flag on top of the poles to look like a flag pole. lol 73's de Capt Darren
@@DarrenN4VFR A big QSL on that Capt Darren. 💯😂😂😂🤘
Thanks for sharing what you are doing with radio antennas.I have tried the MLA-30+ and it is really designed for those who do not have a large space and it is internal. When I used the antenna wires that extend at the top of the building and cover the roof area, it was better in stages than the MLA-30+, and I also placed the MLA-30+ at the top of the roof of the building, and the antenna wire was also better.
I'm going to put my MLA30 on the roof with a rotator. Its on my list to do's. 73's
Thanks for your feedback. I will also put my MLA30+ and make a comparison video of the reception between the MLA30+, Zero Five 27' Inverted L and also the 40 M Horizontal Loop Antenna.
Thanks for taking the time to show how you actually did the installation in detail. It's really frustrating to watch ham videos and they say "here's what I'm going to do" and then they cut to "okay it's done" then they show themselves turning a VFO knob and testing it.
Question: You haven't had any problems with your support polls being metal have you? I mean as far as coupling and that sort of thing? I figured you wouldn't since they are perpendicular to your antennas. This is an important video to me because I'm going to try to do the same thing albeit I have a one-story house and I'm going to try much longer poles
No problems with interference or coupling problems with my poles. It's my primary antenna at this QTH. Did you watch all 3 parts? Good luck!
Hey Cap, I used an 80m loop many years ago which was my primary antenna. One thing that can be done or a couple of things that can be done is they don't have to be perfectly square or rectangle (as yours is) if you can just get that 265 ft in the air which means if you have to contort the shape to a tree out in the yard or something else and bring it back in or even add a coil or two in the length you will be able to get an 80 m loop up in the air. Yes, the pattern will be different, but loop antennas in every antenna book have always been pictured as a perfect square over perfectly uniform ground. The moment we deviate from that design, the pattern changes anyway. So you don't have to go by the book strictly speaking. You can add the missing length to get an 80 m loop up in the air even if you have to distort it, it will work especially if you have a tuner at the feed point or even in the shack.
Thanks Glen, you gave me an idea. I'll use 265 ft of wire and make another loop just inside the outer loop and basically make it into a spiral. Interesting project.
Just not too close to avoid coupling.
Full wave 40m upside down coat hanger style works great can’t beat it tbh have fun love the vid I get 3db gain horizontal keep em coming Dylan 🏴🫡
NO9I - Capt Darren, nice talking to you on 40M early this morning. Your project is coming along nicely. Hope to CUAGN on 40M. Rich - NO9I
@DarrenN2VFR How would you attach brackets if the wall is not vertical but at a slight angle?
Also, would you add waterproofing where the brackets go into the wall?
Hi capt. Looks good, don't pussy off the HOA 😅
Be careful not to piss off HOA
love the flat roof you have design over there. if only you could have that top roof area on that high rise building we can see the only one near you then would be the king
