- This is my antenna project to building a 40 Meters Horizontal Loop Antenna on top of my roof. After building my Zero Five 27' HOA Inverted L for 80 Meters, a friend of mine W4DOM Dom asked me to why not build an 80 Meter Horizontal Loop Antenna. That's where the idea of building one on my root top came from. Enjoy the video!

You do not need the balun at all (from experience), I run the 80meter loop without balun and with the use of anttena tuner ( loss of about 0.8 db nothing more) and,,,,, it work like a charm as an all band antenna, to top this I use the much cheaper RG11 with great results.

Nice Job given the nightfall and tight schedule.... may I suggest you review the Balun Designs Installation Notes.... they want you to drill a few "weep holes" in the bottom of the 4:1 balun box to allow warm air (moisture laden) to escape the box. If it does not, then when the outside air cools you will get pretty severe condensation inside the balun box. One of my early baluns was not drilled. after a year the balun failed. Upon inspection there was about 1/4 cup of water inside the balun box. Look forward to the next episode. Art W1SWL
