I would love to see a video on other extreme metal labels like: Relapse, Nuclear Blast, Metal Blade, and Roadrunner. All greats labels with awesome bands, especially Roadrunner for all of the old school death metal/thrash albums they released.

one of the 'key' records ever. surprised that show's hosts never heard of it. it was quite a big hit in eastern europe in early 90s. it's actually very interesting how for the fuck sake metal gurus from north america this record is a blank space. wtf?

Yea Vektor is at the top of the thrash foodchain by a loooot. Its thrash and it has death metal elements and its blackened and it has atmosphere to spare and its progier than fucking dream theater and its some of the most extreme music out there and it has some soul fusion on the last record oh and just in case you forget its strangely melodic and cold as deep space and its technical as fuck and it has brilliant songwriting and they threw all that in a cauldron stirred it a bit AND MADE IT FUCKING WORK THE MADMEN. Yea no good fucking luck topping that other thrash bands. Vektor had so much momentum and was going places before the guys left the band, lets hope Dave gets a new lineup together and give us more Vektor. Cuz we all need more space eagle in our lives. Sci-fi or fucking die!

CATHEDRAL's debut still stands the test of time as one of the most significant albums in the doom metal echelon and paved the way for death-doom bands that would follow. If you think it's "too slow" you need to smoke a joint and sit back for another listen to really let that gloomy horror absorb your entire soul.

it's interesting how people discover bands in their inner circles. I'm a year younger than Sam, grew up in Michigan and Nocturnus was something I found without magazines, internet (didn't exist) and I think it was pretty well known in my area. On the other hand, I had never heard of Sleep and At the Gates until much later, probably my mid 30's.

Not even a mention of Berzerker? Poor Sam, even after he counted to 12 instead of subtracting 3 from 15, he has to count up to 13 twice instead of subtracting 2 from 15. 57:20, 58:45. Hopefully the Metal Blade, Nuclear Blast, and Century Media essential album debates will feature a grid so he doesn't have to count.

  • @onionbro1777

I would like to see Atlantic/Sanctuary. But some other ones that I know of are Nuclear Blast, Roadrunner/SPV/Limb, Capitol(maybe), Century Media (not so sure about them since somebody else said there aren't that many great bands but they have releases from Iced Earth, NIGHTWISH, and Lacuna Coil), Spinefarm, Sony(Judas Priest), Warner Bros (Black Sabbath and A7X), Megaforce, and Elektra.
You could also do essential record labels but that wouldn't be a very long episode.

Not on our radar yet, but we are open to suggestions. What bands would you put in there?

    • @MrDraehl
      @MrDraehl 7 лет назад

      BANGER @Banger
Well, you could handle it two ways. Go just with atmoblack or since there is so much crossover between the two genres you could do an Atmospheric/Pagan Black metal episode to be able to fit in acts like Agalloch, Moonsorrow, Windir, and Nokturnal Mortum that are too much black metal to necessarily be counted as folk metal.
As far as bands definitely Burzum or Ulver as the legend. Especially the Filosofem and Hvis Lyset Tar Oss albums or Bergtatt for Ulver.
Some important/great albums would include Weakling - Dead As Dreams, Summoning (which album is very much up for debate), Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters, Drudkh - Autumn Aurora, Forteresse - Metal Noir Quebecois, Darkspace - III, Blut Aus Nord - Memoria Vetusta II, Aquilus - Griseus, Ash Borer - Cold of Ages, Fen - The Malediction Fields, Fyrnask - Eldir Nott, Mare Cognitum - Phobos Monolith

thankfully the crowd got it right and SLEEP made the list. That and GODFLESH are outside the norm, but both hugely influential and, honestly, while I owned pretty much all those 80s/early90's albums, the two I listen to now, years later.
normally watching these after the fact has me shouting at the tv, but this one ended up about spot on - though i was on the cusp of hurling a cerveza when you removed Sleep... in retrospect amazing the quality and quantity of bands that went through Earache.

I might be the only person who knew about Earache as a youngin' (I'm talking like 8, or so), so I don't think I deserve any flak for calling them EAR-RASH records until my early teens when I had, "wait a minute," moment after looking at the logo properly. Good thing there's no elitists in the third grade; they would have ripped me to shreds.

Wynona's Big Brown Beaver My friend thought that Ozzy Osbourne's "Blizzard of Oz" album was called Buzzard of Oz for years until he met me.

A bit late to watch this.... Napalm Death, Carcass, Bolt Thrower and Morbid Angel... All seen together on the Epic Grindcrusher tour in 89. Nothing since, has come close!!!!

Should've added Wormrot - Dirge. That's one of the best grind albums ever imo. If you added Vektor, then Wormrot should've counted too. And that would've represented the modern Earache better. Sleep is also essential. Every modern stoner/doom band was inspired by Holy Mountain in some way I believe.

Earache released some really great music. But their merch is atrocious. Worst print-quality I've ever seen.

Really? My Godflesh shirt looks just fine, but all I've really gotten from Earache was a GF shirt and patch.

Not having a Decapitated album on there is like if you did a Nuclear Blast essentials without having a Meshuggah album.

I dont get ANY news, that I didnt know.
Take "Nocturnus" are mentioned, but dont add its former Morbid A. drummer 'Mike Browning' on vox/drums. I miss the anekdotes not just Band & album. This is subjective opinions, the choices have 4 albums I'd choose too
